We got a few pairs of Male Power to review, this is one the pairs. More will be coming in the next week or s. If you aren’t familiar with them, they are an underwear company know for some really wild and sexy designs. It can range from mesh, leather looking and traditional. So there is something for everyone.

I got the Male Power Zipper short, size XL, and thought first, that they look really cool. Then I thought, this is not going to be comfy with the zipper in the front. But, being the diligent reviewers and underwear lover I put them on.  I will say that I didn’t even notice the zipper. I thought for sure that it would rub and drive me crazy. The reason is I have had zipper underwear before and it rubbed me the wrong way and had to be taken off. But these really fit well and I didn’t’ notice the zipper.

I wore them for an entire day. I was really surprised by the fit. I have had some undies similar to this and as I have mentioned, and they were designed to not be worn long. These really had a good pouch and held everything in place. The only thing that did annoy me is that they would ride down in the back. Meaning they kept slipping down some. Not a great deal but just enough for me to notice.

These are perfect for a pair of date night undies. They are interesting so when the pants come off, your partner will notice it.

Today we have our first reader submitted Brief Distraction. The reader is Shawn S! Who is an aspiring underwear model. He posted a pic in our Facebook Fan Page this weekend and after exchanging a few emails, we got a few pics we’ll bring you. I think it’s awesome to have a reader in this feature. I live in Washington, DC and enjoy modeling on a regular basis.  I’ve worked with some wonderful photographers along the way who’ve helped me achieve some of my goals, which have included commercial print and advertising, mainly underwear and fitness modeling.  I’ve done some fashion shows locally but would really like to see myself in an underwear ad, billboard, or on display in a large window for an esteemed brand or company.  I think I possess a lot of spark and enthusiasm, and I’ve been told to maintain this high energy level I display throughout photoshoots.  I have a passion for modeling and I hope it shows in my work.

So when browsing for a new pair of underwear what grabs my attention? What exactly am I looking for?

The obvious starting point is briefs or trunks? And to be completely honest the answer depends entirely on my mood at the time!

After deciding whether it briefs or trunks, the first thing that grabs my attention is colour – I love bright and bold colours. I try to avoid purchasing black or white underwear unless it’s a killer style or design. Aussiebum and Cin2U score highly for me on the colours front.

The next thing I look at is waistband design. I like funky colours or a bold design or both if possible! I love the CK steel waistband design as the silver colour with the CK name in the same colour as the underwear looks great in my opinion. Aussiebum have some funky waistbands – such as the bamboo and flaunt range – but the winner here has to be the 2xist optic range. The stunning, dual colour waistband starts with one colour and blends into another complimentary colour with a whole range of shades in between.

The final thing is the design of the underwear and whether it offers something that is a little bit different. This is not a huge deciding factor as I have plenty of traditional designs in my drawer but if the pair has a certain something, it usually seals the deal. I’m quite a fan of the seamless design of the Aussiebum bamboo range for example. The enhancing feature of the wonderjock range helped sell a pair – initially out of curiosity I must confess. That said, once I’d got a pair, another two or three followed – I find them very comfy and the extra little help always helps.

Apollo Magazine had their party this past week with a fashion show by Mundo Unico:

Our cover model Frankie struts his best in Mundo Unico underwear and swimwear for the cover and inside spreads of Apollo Male Models Magazine’s latest issue for Spring/Summer 2010. He will also walk in the runway show at our magazine release party with other 12 male models at the Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort in Sunny Isles Beach this Saturday, Feb. 27th. The models will get this chance to show off to many attendees including designers Samy Gitcherman, Maria Lepe, Franovik Design, Piida Diida, Azuka, and many more. Critics, writers, photographers, artists, make-up artists, along with celebrities will be attending to celebrate this night of fashion, music, art, and most of all, to show what South Florida is about.

Aside from the fun and the after party, many key figures in the industry are coming to scout for the models to be presented in this year coming Fashion Week events in South Florida. Come and show your best sides! Media cameras will be everywhere. Beautiful female models will also be attending to support the guys!

We got some great pics of the aussieBum Bamboo Line, many haven’t seen seen yet. They were too good to not put all of them out at once! I Hope you guys enjoy them. Mundo Unico

Mundo Unico is one of my favorites. I have loved them years before I started the blog. We talked for a while and then I actually got to meet the owner of the brand. He was from Columbia and it was a little bit of translating going on. Their new line carries on with the current line they have out. They have the stripes, patterns and designs. Unico constatly takes their signature style and make it into something new. They have a pair that has pink stripes coming out, I wish I had a picture to show you but they look so cool. Yes, I said Pink stripes. I also was able to get a banner from them! It wasn’t easy to get back, but it was worth it!

Freemen Underwear

Freemen is a brand new company. You may have seen some of their stuff on UnderGear. Right now UnderGear has some exclusives from Freeman. They are starting to sell to more retailers and I know we will see a lot more of them this year. They are being make in South America, either Columbia or Brazil (I forget off the top of my head). I got a look through the line and its very colorful and really fun. I haven’t been able to get in touch with them lately to go over the brand, but I’m going to keep trying. I think they will be doing some good things this year and I have a feeling a lot of you guys will love what you see.

Pistol Pete

Pistol Pete had a really big booth and an amazing selection of new undies and swimwear. I have been talking to them and we are going to work on a post shortly that goes over the collection. They had some really great prints. I hope they give me pictures of these because they are really cool. I have known them swimwear as well and it should be fun to bring you their underwear line. The last thing I saw there was workout/active wear. Which I think would be a good fit for our blog. I know many of you out there work out and would be up for hearing more about. Look for the write up of their line in the next week.

ES Collection/Addicted

ES Collection is about to push marketing in the US and you should start seeing it in more stores shortly. They have some really great pics as you have seen in our Brief Distraction. They are some really great fitting underwear. Addicted is a brand new line I don’t know much about. I didn’t get to talk to them much at the booth because they constantly had people there. But I hope we will get more information about it soon.

Go Softwear

Go Softwear has been a big supporter of ours for a long time. They are one company we have worked with since the inception of the blog. They have the new POP collection that is about to come out. It’s one of bright colors and a fun new waistband. I didn’t see much of this line at Magic. I wish I had gotten a better look. I did talk to them about how much we appreciate working with them. If you aren’t familiar with them you need to go check out the lines.

Junk UnderJeans

I had a chance to talk to both the owner and the head designer at Junk UnderJeans. This is a line we have reviewed and they were really received well by our guys. They have really expanded their line. They will now have briefs as well as boxer briefs. They have expanded their color palate. I noticed some great reds and blues. One more area they have gone into is swimwear. They have some really great board shorts.  I will be talking to their designer when the line comes out. We talked about 10 mins about the brand the new line and more.

I had so much fun at Magic. One lesson I learned is that I need to take my notebook and take better notes next time. But I was like a kid in a candy store! There was stuff everywhere, I bet if you had gone you would have done the same! We plan on going and hopefully taking more of our staff with us and doing a better job reporting from Magic and hopefully Curve! We’ll keep you posted!

I wanted to do something really fun for Underwear of the Week. After seeing so many pairs at Magic I wanted to profile a new company, Clever. This pair is the Tahiti Trunk. I love the design of the pair. It’s a fun pair with a solid crotch. It’s great to see some fun in men’s underwear and this is fun to me. I know it’s not the taste for everyone but I think underwear should be fun and add something to your wardrobe!

Skmpeez

If you aren’t familiar with Skmpeez, well they are a great swimwear company out of Canada. Yes I said Canada! They have really broadened their line this year. They have a lot more pairs, which come in three styles. Which are skimpy, not so skimpy and board shorts. In the designs this year they have mixed and matched things you wouldn’t think would go together. I just have to say herringbone is one of the patterns, but you won’t believe how they used it. I will post a pic of this pair when I get it. These mixing two uncommon things into one is a theme that runs through their line. It will be out in, I believe April. They have a lot of potential and I hope we see a lot more of them. I really had fun hanging out with the Skmpeez boys at Magic.

Timoteo

Timoteo has the Classic and Quake lines, but they are also coming out with a new line. The new line has a really awesome waistband, if you look real close in the picture, you will see it. It’s a sportier designed waistband; I really liked it and told Timoteo that when I looked it over. He said they had two designs for the band but this one by far out voted the other. Plus the images that they had in their booth were amazing. They had two pics, about 6 feet by 8 feet. I’m bummed because I thought I got a picture of them! Timoteo does amazing photography work and we’ll pass along new pictures when they are out!

Beyond Big Banding

Beyond Big has a few lines there; Piss & Vinegar, Expose, Dick & Jane and they have a new one coming out as well.  Piss & Vinegar has already hit the American market and has made quite a splash. It has it’s I love, Jesus, Buddha, boys and girls. Expose is a brand from Columbia with a sporty design. We should see it in stores shortly. Dick and Jane and is popular with urban youth. It was founded in Russia but is headquartered in Vienna. You can find it in Eastern Europe, and now with the help of Beyond Big it will be in the States and Western Europe. They will be releasing more brands soon, and we will definitely keep you posted. If you’re not aware, Jason (in the picture) is the founder of Ginch Gonch and his partner, Brian Edgar is a former Tommy Hilfiger executive. I expect to see big things from them!

Jocko

Jocko is a company we haven’t covered much on this site. It’s a brand I have seen in stores and online but we haven’t talked to before. So, I was really excited to get to talk to them. If you’re not familiar with them they do underwear, swimwear and workout/street wear. While I was in the booth, I had the chance to talk to Geovanny as well. He’s a dancer turned underwear designer. His undies were very cool and colorful. I have his number and will be calling him soon to get some pictures of his underwear and more information about him.

Andrew Christian

I got a chance to talk to Andrew himself at the show. I talked to him about how much all our readers love Andrew Christian. Which is true, every time we do a contest with Andrew Christian, everyone goes crazy! Which is a good thing. Andrew was showing some of the new designs. The one thing that will be coming out this month is Swimwear. They have some new Show-It and Almost naked swimwear, if it’s not out now it will be shortly. They have some really cool new undies, that will be announced shortly. Most of them will be out in June, but expect new styles, colors and some really fun ones! Just a hint some of their current lines will be taken to the next level!

C-IN2

C-IN2 looks like they are concentrating on some of there core designs. They are doing bringing back the original design of the Bamboo brief. Which is one of my all time favorite pairs. They are also doing some great work with color. They have redone a lot of their lines and I’m not sure the exact launch date. But it’s classic C-IN2 styling with some new colors. So if you are a fan of C-IN2 you will love the new lines.

Saxx Apparel

Saxx has come out with white before the show. Previously they had only black underwear. They told me at the show that this year they will be bringing out more colors. If you are active and looking for good undies, then I think you should try them out. They look funky but fit pretty well. They are the only company as well that I got a free pair from. It’s a pair of their Bamboo line. I haven’t worn them yet but I will let you know on Twitter and Facebook how they fit! They told me that they sponsored one of the Canadian teams for the Olympics. Look for more from them in a week or two!

Here is another great picture from ES Collection. This is part of their 2010 Swimwear line. They have shorts along with swim briefs and square cuts. They have a really great swim collection, so go check it all out

In 3^rd place and winner of the bronze medal, AussieBum;’s Undies range. This underwear – based on the classic brief design – are really comfortable, offer just the right level of support and more important come in a wide range of bright colours. Made from hardwearing ribbed cotton with a stylish white trim and waistband these are a staple of my underwear drawer and will be for time to come. They can be worn under pretty much anything and are comfortable from the start to the end of the day.

In 2^nd place and only just beaten to gold are the 2xist Optic Trunks. These trunks are super (actually, super-super) soft and almost feel like you are not wearing anything. The trunks come in a variety of bold colours and have a contrasting dual colour waistband. The only down side to these is that the material is quite thin and stretchy and by the end of the day tends to suffer in the pouch support area due to this. Also, watch out on sizing – 2xist seem to have really over sized them so always order a size down. If it weren’t for the cost of obtaining these in the UK, I’d have a drawer full.

Finally, in first place and taking the top spot on the podium are the Calvin Klein Steel Trunks range. Soft, comfortable, with a stylish, wide, steel effect waistband this underwear offers just the right level of support from dawn till dusk. Available in a wide range of bright and interesting colours, they look really great under a nice pair of jeans. As mentioned the waistband is nice and wide and so looks better on guys with a decent physique as it’s the quite firm, not that this alters the comfort level! Having said that, my physique is far from perfect and I still reckon they look cool! I’ve always been a fan of the CK range – before the Steel range, pro-stretch were my preferred CK underwear, but these not only win gold in the CK range, but are my gold medal choice overall too!

The first thing I have to say is it was really great to meet everyone face-to-face. We have been working with most of the companies for a long time and actually being able to sit down and talk to them was great. I did forget to ask a lot of “What can I report?” and “What is new” But, in my defense, the whole thing was a bit over whelming at times. You see some of the top underwear companies in the world, and you get a chance to look through the lines and it’s like being a kid in a candy store! Then the next day you go, “DOH! I should have asked…”, but that’s what email is for! As a side note, it’s been a little slow getting all the information, because they all have to go back and put in all their orders and get everything shipped to the company. But never fear we’ll get you more info shortly!

With that said, the trip to Magic was a fast one, I basically spent one day in Las Vegas. I flew in Wednesday night, the show runs Tuesday through Thursday. Then took the red eye home on Thursday night. Told you it was fast! I got in and crashed, since the plane landed at 11:30 EST. I got up the next morning and hit the show. It was a mixture of excitement and nervousness.

Baskit

I got in the show and talked to Eric from Baskit. I dropped my stuff at his booth and then met Eric Turner. I’m sure many of you are aware of him from MegaMuscle and Facebook. As you can see by the pic of us together, he kept saying he was fat, and I was like “Whatever!” Although, he kept cracking me up all day. I will say that I enjoyed seeing him through out the day! The one thing I really want to check out is the new “easy access” pair they have. I am getting more information but it’s going to be a very fun pair.

Candyman, Clever, PPU, Pikante

The next stop was at the Candyman, Clever, PPU and Pikante Booth. These are new companies that we just started working with before attending the show. I got to meet them and go through the collections. One of the things I really loved is they have a line of shape wear that has prints on them. Which are the coolest thing I have seen in a while. We have predicted that shape wear is going to be big and with this latest addition, it will be even bigger. I got a chance to see the Candyman line and it’s just a fun line. My favorite set they had was the vampire one! These are really the first fantasy line for men I ever remember seeing that had some time into creating the line and made it fun! The other lines I love because of the use of prints and patterns.  Clever has to be one of the lines I really want to see more of, because of the patterns. They have some really great patterns and prints. I admit I’m a color guy and love it when I see new companies taking risks with colors. I will go into more detail and bring you guys Brief Distractions from the companies!

Punto Blanco

I got a chance to talk to them for a little bit. They are a line we have only covered in sales information. We have done very little with that and we hope that will change. We have emailed back and forth and I hope we will get more in depth info for you very soon. Punto Blanco reminds me a sport wear line. They have stripes and solids, noting too out there.

(B)rief underneath

I got a chance to talk to them through out the show. I walked around a lot. I think they have a really cool concept in underwear. It’s boxers with a brief built in. I know so many guys who are still wearing boxers, but haven’t made the decision to move to briefs, and these are a great compromise. They have really great colors and styles of the boxers. I am not much of a boxer guy but I did see a few pairs I liked. So, if they got me looking at them, then they are doing something right. They also, were showing their loungewear. I can’t wait for these. Imagine comfy lounge pants with underwear built in, I know it’s not traditionally underwear but this is brilliant concept and I can’t wait for it to come out! We will keep you posted when it’s available.

Ginch Gonch

I like Ginch Gonch, there are many things going on with them. They have come out with their new “I Love” line. Which currently features I love boys and girls lines. They are going to extend it into a few more cities. The  I Love London was just released at London Fashion week this past week. They are carrying over the themes of I Love in to some really cool Long Johns. I love that companies are actually experimenting with them. I admit, and I know many out there love the traditional long johns, but I would love some color and fun in long johns. Ginch Gonch has proved this with their previous pairs, such as the Argyle ones. I am talking to them soon so I’ll let you know more out the new lines.

In the first part of the underwear battle, I looked at the differences and similarities in the styles of underwear on both sides of the pond.  Let’s pick up the battle and move on to other aspects!

The biggest difference the 3,000 or so nautical miles causes is cost.  Designer underwear is more expensive in the UK than over the pond.  UK underwear fans tend to pay the same amount in £ (pounds) what our US friends pay in $ (dollars) for the designer gear – i.e. if a pair costs $22 in the US, we’re likely to pay around £22 for the same item. With the exchange rate currently at around 1.55 dollars to the pound, that makes quite a difference! That said being said, there is plenty of affordable underwear out there; just don’t expect it to have CK or AussieBum on the waistband.

Costs can be cut if you’re not set on having the latest style as we have a couple of discount chains which tend to sell the less popular or last years styles at cheap prices.  Usually these are traditional boxers rather than trunks and most of the time only in very limited colours, often just black or white.  But if you’re just bothered about the name on the waistband, it can save you some money.

Underwear designed and produced exclusively for a particular clothing chain is much more popular in the UK. Ask many UK guys what is in their underwear drawer and the answer is likely to be M&S, Next, or something similar. All names that will mean nothing to most people outside of this particular island.  These are large clothing chains that cover virtually every town in the UK.  The underwear offered by these chains range from the budget to the luxurious, all styles, but are usually quite restrained on colours; the majority being darker shades which is not to my taste at all.  I’m all for bright colours! That said, they do produce some very comfy underwear and in days gone by when I wasn’t working and was a poor student, they more than sufficed!

So, there you have it…a quick round-up of underwear styles and buying habits this side of the pond.  One thing worth pointing out is that all of what I’ve written is based on my personal observations and not any statistical analysis.  Feel free to comment away!

Saxx Apparel has come out with their undies in white. If you have followed Saxx you know they just had black to start out with, it was like Henry Ford “You can have underwear in any color, as long as it’s black!” But they have branched out and they have released the white before I went to Magic. While there I found out that colors are coming this year.

If you are an active guy, I think you should check out Saxx. The design I know looks funky, but the fit is awesome. Check it out and we’ll keep you posted on the colors when they are out! I have enjoyed them, and if anyone else has tried them let me know!

Where do I start – let’s take a quote from Alice in Wonderland, “Begin at the beginning…” and in this case, the beginning is a little about me.

I’m a 32 year old big kid! I studied until I was 27, travelled the world for a year, and now work to travel more!  I’ve visited Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia, USA, Canada, and Morocco among others over the last few years and love exploring new places and cultures.  Outside of work and travel I love photography, torturing myself in the gym, watching hockey (Go Bruins!), and have a large interest in technology and computers (Apple especially).

On the underwear front, the first brand I remember buying was a pair of CK briefs while visiting Boston.  At the time, I was a broke student and they cost a fortune in the UK.  Seeing them at an affordable price meant they had to be purchased!  Since I started earning my own money, I still like CK but they have been superseded by 2xist, AussieBum, and Andrew Christian.  Style wise, I used to be exclusively a trunks man, but recently have started wearing briefs and rather like them!  The one style I’ve yet to try and want to sample is jockstraps.  Watch this space to see how that works out!

Along with reviewing some underwear, I’m also going to be writing some tips on underwear purchasing in the UK and offering some views on the market over here versus the states.  Let the underwear battle commence!

On the style front, the UK is a bit more restrained in what you can buy in the shops compared to the US.  You would be hard pressed to walk into a department store or use an online version, and purchase a jockstrap.  Sports stores stock the specialized ones and rarely one can pick them up in discount stores.  If you want designer jockstraps and a choice to boot, the web is your destination of choice.

The most popular styles in the UK are easily boxer briefs or trunks with traditional boxers the next most popular option.  Briefs, especially among many younger guys, are not that popular of an option.  I particularly like them…designer brands only though!

I’m no expert on style names, but what the US calls bikini briefs, in the UK, they are called Tanga briefs.  It would appear this is the case from recently doing some research.  I’m sure there are more differences between sub-styles, but the main styles match up well and as long as you know whether you are after a pair of trunks, briefs or boxers, you’ll be in the right ballpark either side of the ocean.

I was pretty skeptical when asked to review undies from Male Power.  I am not use to extreme undies and, to me, these were EXTREME!  When I received them in the mail and showed them to my wife we were both pretty skeptical.  She thought they were going to be extremely uncomfortable because of the material.  I haven’t tried many thongs but I was given a pair of Grip & Rip Thongs to review from their Extreme Collection.  I thought, “Okay, I’ll give them a try and keep an open mind about the whole thing.”  With one eyebrow raised, I put them on and wore them all day.

I was concerned about the Velcro bothering my skin or getting caught on other articles of clothing and coming undone.  That became a non-issue.  I was also worried about placement, but that was soon dismissed.  The thong fit nicely and, I must say, it was an all around good experience.  The material was a comfortable “cire” – which was new to me.  I had to adjust the way I “ride” in undies as the pouch was a little low and the grab strap did not help keeping things in place.  I would not recommend these for all day wear as they would be best for a special, plan ahead to wear, event.

Put on the Male Power Extreme Grip and Rip Thong, grab a strap, and hang on tight as it will take you for a wild ride!  These are made of matte finished polyester and spandex with an added tear-away front pouch for easy access.

They are one of the funnest pairs of long johns! When I think of long johns, I think of the usual boring white ones. This is my second time writing for UNB, and alas, my second pair to review.  If I said I wasn’t super excited to get these, then I would be lying.  When they arrived, I tried them on instantly, and for the most part, I was pretty pleased.  They do seem a tad skimpy, and I felt that there could have been more coverage in the rear, but that could be because of incorrect sizing on my end.  Besides that, everything else about these undies is great.  They feel great as they are made of 94% Polyester.  There is quite a bit of support in the front, something that I find to be rather hit and miss, and it’s so much better when it’s a hit.  These are definitely a hit!

Before I can faithfully write a review, I have to wear the briefs for a normal day and see if they can pass the test.  The next morning, I put them on, went to class, had after-class meetings, and then hung around the pad until bedtime.  The results…an overwhelming pass! I didn’t want to take them off because they were so comfortable.  But, if you love something, you have to set it free to your hamper.  I did set them free, but I plan to reunite myself with them very soon!

I had the chance this past week to go to Magic. Magic is a show for buyers to come from all over to buy the next seasons lines from clothing brands. This includes women’s, lines, and men’s wear and more specifically men’s underwear. They have just about all the Underwear companies in what it called Underwear Alley. It features many of the brands we cover and a few we don’t, so I was excited to meet to the companies I have talked to in the last year. I also got a chance to make a few new relationships.

I will say the world of men’s underwear is a really great and friendly place. I haven’t met too many people who haven’t been nice. They have all been so helpful and I appreciate all of them! I am going to give you a hint at what some of the companies are doing. I have been sworn to secrecy about a few things I saw, but as soon as they are out I will let you know!

I am following up with the companies this week so I’m going to make sure of what I can report and what I can’t. So through out the next two weeks there will be more in depth details about each brand. I just don’t want to say something I shouldn’t.

Here are the brands I talked too:

Baskit – I got a chance to get to know Baskit team. They had the model Eric Turner, if you have seen him on Facebook or MegaMuscle. Eric kept me laughing all day when I came across him. I saw some great new colors and designs from Baskit. This includes swimwear and also and underwear. I love some of the new ones with easy access!

Candyman/PPU/ Clever/Pikante – These are four brands we haven’t covered much. We started talking just before the show and have profiled Candyman, look for a more detailed post about them soon. But we are super excited to get the others. They are all really fun and colorful lines. We plan to bring you a lot more about them in the future.

Mundo Unico – As many of you know this is one of my favorites in the world of underwear. I got a change to sit and talk to them and see the new line! I even got to meet the owner! It was awesome. The new line has some pink and one pair, which right now is very hard for me to describe, has kind of a pattern made out of the material. It’s a solid color but very cool. I wish I had a picture to show you, but it will be out very soon. Its hard to describe!

Beyond Big Branding – Better Brands is one you may not know the name but they do Piss & Vinegar, Dick & Jane, Expose and there will be more coming. I got to talk to Jason on of the partners and I am really excited for the coming year and what they have planned. This is one company we are going give you guys a lot more information about, I don’t even know a lot of the things that are coming!  We are already in the works of finding out more about them before the show!

(B)rief Underneath – We profiled them about two weeks ago and the one thing I can tell you is their lounge wear is about to come out! They have mentioned it on their site and I think it will be a big hit. One thing that stood out for me as well was the boxer. We know I’m not a boxer guy but the colors they used and stripes, I had to say I loved. They were great guys to talk too.

Ginch Gonch – Ginch Gonch has a lot planned for this year. They are expanding their line of “I Love” collection. I am really looking forward to the I Love Bacon pair, which they have already announced. One really cool thing is that they are launching the I Love London at London Fashion week. We are going to try to get you some great pictures of that. They had models playing volleyball on the carpet in the isle, but I missed them. They left the day before I got there, but I’ll see if I can get some pictures!

ES Collection/Addicted – ES Collection has just released their swimwear, which we have been showing in our Brief Distraction. It’s super hot and they are just about come into the US Market. I have a pair and they are very good. I didn’t get to see much of the Addicted line but I hope to get more information this week.

Skmpeez – I loved the guys at Skmpeez! I had so much fun talking and hanging out with them. Their new line will be a lot more patterns, of things that don’t necessarily think of going together. They are a company from Canada but that doesn’t’ stop them from making really hot swimwear!

Jocko – I got to talk to Jocko for a bit, and it will be great to cover them. We have’t covered them much, but look forward to building a good relationship. I also found out that they are sort of partnering with a new brand, Geovanny. Which is a former dancer turned underwear designer. I saw a few of his styles and they are really colorful and fun. I will definitely profile him in the next week or two.

Go Softwear – Its really cool to meet people you have talked to over the years. I got to mainly talk to them about the site and what we do. I forgot to look at the new lines. But never fear, I will have a full report shortly. They just released some great mesh jocks and are doing some really sexy pairs lately!

Junk Under Jeans – Junk Under Jeans is one of our favorites here. The reviewers who tired them loved them. I got a chance to talk to them about their new line. They have boxer briefs/trunks coming out but also briefs! I got a few minutes to talk to the designer and he’s already agreed to sit down for an interview and go over the collection! They have so much going on that we are going to save it till the line is launched!

Pistol Pete – Pistol Pete has the one thing I can’t say is coming. It’s so cool! But I will go over that later. I was sworn not to reveal it just yet. This is a new company you will see a lot more of on the site. I we will cover their underwear, swimwear and work out wear. They have some really cool prints coming. Something I haven’t seen a lot in men’s underwear. I thought they were awesome.

Andrew Christian – I got to meet up with Andrew Christian himself again and speak to him for a few minutes. It’s always great to talk to him. They, as always, have more and more pairs coming out. He’s always making something new and fun. I have the catalogue and will let you know what to expect.

Timoteo – I got to meet Timoteo himself. I had fun talking to him through out the day. He showed me the collections they have now and the new line that is coming out with the most incredible waistband. You guys know I love waistband and this one is just awesome. It’s the TImoteo name but designed different. It’s very a very sporty design. I also said he has some of the best photography and we want some of the new pics as Brief Distractions.

Obviously – Obviously has the great new colors, which just came out! I have to admit I love the pouch on these. The new colors are amazing and fun. They didn’t have anything else new but they are a new brand growing and I know we will see great things from them!

Punto Blanco – I was so happy to talk to this brand. They are one I have enjoyed looking at on sites but never had the chance to talk to them. I saw a little of the collection but we will be talking more in the next few weeks and profiling them a lot more.

C-IN2 – C-IN2 has a lot of things going on. They are bringing out new lines. The colors they are doing are amazing. They are doing some different shades and colors not used in Men’s Underwear They do some great new combinations and waistbands. They will also come out with undies that keep you warm! The Bamboo line will be re-launched as well. Which I am glad to see because I love the Bamboo Line!

Saxx Apparel – Saxx is a really cool company for guys who are active or into sports. I got to talk to them for a bit. They have done something really cool; they have sponsored one of the Canadian Olympic teams. For the life of me I can’t remember which one. But they are sending me something this week so I will post it as soon as I get it.

I know this was a very quick post. But there was so much I saw that I wanted to get this one out and more detailed posts this week and next on each of the brands. If I wrote it out now it would be 20 times longer. I also want to send in some questions to the companies to get more information as well! I got a chance to check out some of the newest lines. I will say there are some really fun things coming. They involve colors, prints, new cuts and fabrics. Some of the new styles I have been sworn to secrecy! But have no doubt they are pretty cool.

I’m in the process of writing everything up, but after two days of no sleep I”m BEAT! I wanted to let you guys know that you’ll see some great stuff soon. One of my goals this year working on the Underwear News Briefs blog is to expose our readers to some brands of underwear that they may not know about. Candyman Fashions is one of those brands that I wanted to bring to our readers.

Candyman Fashions looks to role playing costumes to get inspiration for their underwear. However not all of their undies have a “costume” feel. They have some great undies with a lot of fun, unique, and sexy features that you will not find with any other underwear company. Their fabric is one of a kind and you must experience it to really grasp its uniqueness.

I received the”9516 Zebra Boxer” in a size medium to review. This is one of those styles from Candyman that is not a costume, but just a fun pair of undies. They feature a zebra style pattern on the hips and butt, and a solid black front and inside thigh panel. A solid black logo waistband trims it off and adds a little extra “pop”. When I first pull these undies out of the package, the first thing that I noticed was the fabric. It has a shiny look to it. The black front and inner thigh panel almost looks like leather. However, this fabric feels nothing like leather. It is thin but durable, and it stretches and moves with you without any issues. These undies fit great and looks even better .My first impression of the front pouch wasn’t the best. I found it to be a little small, but as I wore them, they almost conformed and molded to my body and we actually very conformable to wear. The one drawback that I did notice is the leg openings did ride up a little, but not enough for me to really notice too much.

These and many of the other styles from Candyman are great to wear for daily wear, but these undies really shine when you wear them out on the town. The fit is great for all day wear, but the patterns, colors, fabric, and sex appeal of these undies are meant to be noticed. They also can add a little extra spice in the bedroom. I wouldn’t recommend wearing these to the gym or out for a run. I am not saying that you couldn’t, but I believe there are better undies for that. Best to let these eye catching undies be seen in the wild and not full of sweat while you are doing to squat workout.

Overall, I really enjoyed these undies. They add an element of fun and a little “something different” to my ever expanding underwear collection.

Here is our Brief Distraction for today! Another pic we took from out Valentines Guide. It’s William Price in the really fun aussieBum Valentines Underwear!  They are such fun.

• Sock Dreams is a fantastic site I have found on the vast World Wide Web.  It has a great collection of designs and dress socks.  I saw many of them that I really loved.  Yes, many of them have rings of color, but others are quite colorful indeed.  Definitely check them out and get creative.
• Calvin Klein^® makes a great selection of socks for men.  Their collection includes crews, ankles, and low-cut in a variety of colors.  They also have dove into the dress sock arena with their awesome collection.  I have tried these socks before and I love the smooth comfortable feel of the materials.  You can always count on CK to provide good quality clothing.
• Adidas^® has a great line of socks. Of course, this is a company we’ve come to expect great things from when it comes to athletic accessories.  Their underwear may not be our favorites at UNB, but I am sure we’ve all had a pair of Adidas socks, shoes, or a shirt in the past.  I know I do anyway.  These can be found in sports supply stores all over the country and probably the world.
• Gold Toe^® is a sock manufacturer that provides socks for any type of sock wearer.  They make some of the best athletic socks in various colors with their signature gold patch over the toe.  Their dress socks are very comfortable and are the longest lasting ones I own.  You can find these in many department stores and online.  They make a very durable cotton/spandex blend that is offered in many colors and holds up well while walking in your favorite dress shoes.
• Hanes^® and Fruit of the Loom^® have been manufactures of socks for many years and are, above all, the most common one found in stores and ads.  Each has their own special way of setting apart their products from competitors.  For the everyday man, these would probably be the ones their wives would pick out for them.  They have no frills and they tend to last as long as any others…under normal wearing conditions.  They offer packages of black crew socks that are perfect for wearing with dress shoes when you don’t want to wear the traditional dress sock and like the feel of your favorite athletic socks.  Some of their socks are also equipped with antibacterial agents to fight the odors that can occur.
• American Apparel^® makes a wide range of socks, including the beloved tube socks.  They offer many more designs than you would find in stores today, such as red, green, blue, or black tubes with white stripes, and for traditionally women, they have thigh high leg warmers with color rings.  It may seem weird to some, but these can come in handy in colder weather to insulate the body.  Hunters have been known to wear pantyhose underneath their gear for the same purpose.  If you want warmth, don’t be afraid to check these out.

We got the chance this week to talk to Todd Sanfield, the owner and creator of a new underwear line called Todd Sanfield Underwear. Todd is a model turned underwear designer. During his career he has been on the cover of DNA Magazine twice, which very few guys have ever graced the cover twice. Inside the magazine he wore his own underwear We haven’t seen many models wearing their own underwear. We only know one other designer do that, and that company was Element(o)s.

The line is not for sale yet but they are generating some great buzz about the brand. The line is being designed for everyone. They want everyone to feel comfortable to wear it, not just the 18-34 crowd. Todd is also giving the line a classical styling over bright and loud patterns. He is giving the line colors but they are not ones you wouldn’t be scared to wear to the gym.

If you have seen any pictures of the underwear, you have seen Todd wearing them. He believes in his product so much he is willing to be the model and stand behind the brand. He is the designer, owner and model. Todd said he started the line because of his career in modeling. He used to wear some of the different underwear lines and wanted to make something cool and stylish.

The Underwear designed so far has been briefs and boxer briefs/trunks. Which are the current popular styles. One thing i particularly like is the logo in the wrong and the name on the right side. It’s a way of doing the name on the waistband with out over doing it. Its subtle but very stylish.

The company is working on samples to finalize the styles and get it in to production. As soon as that is done, the photoshoots will be done and the site will be updated and sold.
