How did you get started in the swimwear business?

A few years ago, while sipping caipirinhas on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, I noticed how well the Brazilian-made swimsuits fit the male body. I could easily tell the Brazilians from the tourists just by how well the suits fit. The Brazilian suits have a bit more coverage on the sides which allows for a better fit on the backside- giving lift and support. Also, the colors and styles really stood out like nothing else out there. Shortly thereafter, I started working to bring this body flattering style of swimwear to areas outside of Brazil.

What have been your inspirations in designing?

I draw a lot of my inspiration from the Carioca (Rio de Janeiro) lifestyle which promotes feeling and looking good. Sometime, inspiration comes from random areas- a car once drove by me in Rio that had a unique design of lines and color combinations which I incorporated in a swimwear design. Also, certain color combinations and how they complement various skin tones serve as an inspiration for ongoing designs.

You just released a new line, can you tell our readers a little more about the line?

Absolutely. A natural progression of our collection will now fall into underwear which will feature the same cuts of our Brazilian swimwear. Of course now, wearers can experience this flattering look and feel all year round. We have full and low rise cuts as well as a jockbrief which is a hybrid between a jock strap and a low rise Brazilian cut; a combination which is both flattering and sexy.

We posted your video for the line, what has been the response to video?

We have such a fun time on the set of photoshoots and we wanted to share that with our customers. The comments sent to us have been very positive and of course, many people want to see more ( and less!) of the models. We plan on doing some on location in Rio de Janeiro for 2010.

Any plans for the future?

Yes, we are working on expanding our boyRio line to include more casual wear as well as launching our girlRio line. We are also planning on possible boy/Girl Rio boutiques in select US markets to showcase our collection and reach even more customers.
