What starts a lifelong love of Lycra?
For this week’s guest on Stretching the Truth, it began with childhood curiosity, gymnastics leotards, and the growing popularity of spandex sportswear. Years later, one memorable trip into a fitting room finally gave him the opportunity to experience Lycra for himself.
That experience changed everything.
In the newest episode of Stretching the Truth, I sit down with LycAddict, a German gear enthusiast whose passion has grown into an impressive collection of cycling suits, soccer kits, leggings, singlets, bodysuits, cosplay gear, swimwear, and more.
From Curiosity to a Lycra Collection
Like many guys in the Lycra community, LycAddict began exploring his interest privately. Once he moved into his own place and had the freedom to buy and wear what he wanted, his collection quickly expanded.
Today, half of his large wardrobe is devoted entirely to spandex. His gear is organized by category, with separate spaces for soccer kits, cycling suits, singlets, cosplay, swimwear, and other favorite pieces.
We talk about how easily a collection can grow when you discover new styles through Instagram, Spandex Party, and other members of the community. One picture can inspire a new outfit, and suddenly the credit card is coming out again.
Why Fabric and Fit Matter
Not all spandex is created equal.
LycAddict explains why material composition is one of the first things he checks when buying gear. We discuss the difference between inexpensive Lycra and higher-quality fabrics, along with the disappointment of waiting weeks for a suit that does not look or feel as good as expected.
If you are beginning your own collection, LycAddict offers a smart suggestion: start with secondhand gear. It can be an affordable way to experiment with different fabrics, styles, cuts, and brands before investing in more expensive pieces.

Lycra as Everyday Clothing
Lycra is not something LycAddict saves only for pictures or special occasions. He wears it every day.
He has replaced traditional cotton underwear with Lycra underwear, wears comfortable sports gear around the house, and incorporates leggings and performance clothing into gym outfits. He especially enjoys combining soccer kits with Lycra, creating an everyday athletic look with something tighter and more exciting underneath.
Cycling gear also gives him the chance to wear Lycra publicly while using it for its intended purpose. There is something special about getting outside, enjoying the gear, and seeing other cyclists doing the same.
Finding Confidence Through Community
One of the most important parts of this conversation is LycAddict’s experience with the online spandex community.
He initially joined Spandex Party to look at other members’ pictures. Eventually, he decided it was time to contribute. Although he worried about how people might respond, the reaction was positive and welcoming.
That encouragement led him to create an Instagram account, share more of his collection, and connect with even more gear enthusiasts.
His message to other guys is simple: wear what you enjoy, show what you want to show, and wear it proudly. You do not need a particular body type to look great in Lycra.
The gear may bring people together, but the friendships, encouragement, inspiration, and sense of belonging are what make the community matter.
