Not everyone embraces the snug fit and body-conscious cut of the men’s bikini, but we’re on a bit of a mission to get more guys to give it a try.
Our resident photographer Armando Adajartook fitness model Alex Edown to the beach in San Diego and managed to persuade him to pull on our bright and bold bikini styles.
Following the shoot, We caught up with Alex to see if he was a convert.
The verdict on the bikini
Men’s bikini swimwear – or swim-briefs – isn’t a style that we see a lot of on the beaches of North America – most guys tend to favour surf-shorts or swim-trunks. Men wearing bikinis is much more common in Europe, and it’s a style that is fairly universally embraced by gay guys.
“When I first tried them on, I realised how great they are!” confirmed Alex, when we asked him how he felt trying on a bikini for the first time. “Maybe I’m a bit more European in my outlook, but I feel like people should be less afraid of exposing their bodies – there’s just so much freedom and confidence that comes with being comfortable in your skin.”
“What I like about the men’s bikini is that you don’t end up with tan lines in inconvenient places…” added Alex. “Plus, it’s an excuse to show the quads off!”
“This is swimwear that exudes confidence, no matter what your body type is…” advised Alex. “Life is too short to worry about what other people might say or think. The male physique should be celebrated. I feel like the bikini is definitely the style that shows off the male physique the best.”
“If I’m planning a hike or something, I might still opt for shorts or trunks…” considered Alex. “But, for hanging out on the beach, the bikini is definitely where it’s at.”
Embracing an outdoors lifestyle
“I recently moved to San Diego from Oklahoma, so you can imagine how much a previously landlocked guy loves the water…” explains Alex. “My family and friends hate me because I’m on the beach so much. I can’t get enough of it!”
“The beach is the one place I can be active and hike, hang out with friends, or just work on my tan – all in the same day!”
Using Instagram for inspiration
We’ve been following Alex E’s fitness journey through his regular updates on Instagram. We asked him how he stays motivated.
“Growing up, I was always the ultra-skinny kid…” explained Alex. “I’m talking bean-pole-skinny, at 5’11” and 140 pounds. There’s nothing wrong with being lean, but my confidence suffered from it, and as a result, I was bullied throughout school.”
“One day, I decided I wanted to live a healthier, more confident lifestyle, so I picked up the weights and pushed myself…” added Alex. “I ended up falling in love with weightlifting. I love constantly pushing myself in the weight room, and in the rest of my life by extension.”
“I think of Instagram as my fitness log, and if I don’t share my progress, I miss out on being able to look back on how far I’ve come on my fitness journey…” shrugged Alex. “One of the biggest compliments I can get is that I am an inspiration. If I can inspire just one person, I think that documenting my journey is worthwhile. I know what it feels like to be directionless and to lack confidence, so I hope that my fitness journey can help others to find that direction.”
Not just a pretty face
“I’m actually currently applying to medical school…” said Alex, when our conversation turns to goals and aspirations for the months ahead. “I know I’m a nerd, but the sciences and intricacies of the human body are huge passions of mine.”
“I’m also pursuing a modeling career…” added Alex. “Being from Oklahoma, I lacked the resources to pursue modeling, but now I’m going at it full force. I’m hoping to start a career in fitness modeling.”

One swimwear company that I love is Walden Athletic. They have some amazing colors and patterns. They have a classic cut to the line that makes them perfect for any occasion. Plus they manufacture using recycled and sustainable fabrics and donate a percentage of all sales to environmental causes. Check them out
If you have never tried nylon underwear you may not get how awesome the undies are. I know we have a good number of guys out there who love nylon undies. The briefs feel almost silky against your skin, but there isn’t a lot of give in the fabric. Note the pairs appear to be “baggy.” However the fit is pretty good.
Nylon undies takes me back to my teens. It was big in the 80’s and early 90’s but they have virtually disappeared. Only a few brands have these. So these are old school undies with a new design from BodyAware. Which I’m really glad to see out there! Retro is never really out of style in the world of undies.

UNB Tim recommendation: If you like fun and bold prints, this pair is for you. It’s not a typical print seen in underwear. That is what makes it fun. The pouch is spot-on amazing, still one of the best on the market. If you are a Cocksox fan or just an undies fan, this is a must-have pair.
I am probably one of the biggest fans of Cocksox there is! When I was in Vegas in Feb, I got to see all the new stuff, and I was amazed. The Paradise Palms print is one I MUST own! The super fun beach print is fantastic. It’s not something you see in undies regularly. Let’s not forget to mention the pouch!
This pair was worn around for errands and office work. But it could be used to work out or be active wearing. The Cocksox pouch is perfect for working out due to the support it offers. No matter what you do in this pair, you will love the fit and feel of these.
The construction of Cocksox is one of the best. I have had several pairs that have lasted 5 or more years. The fabric and construction of these are what you would expect for Cocksox. There is nothing worse than investing in a pair and only have it last a few times. Well, don’t worry that won’t happen with Cocksox.
Sizing for me in Cocksox has never been an issue. The brand has had consistent sizing that I have never had a problem. Check the sizing chart to be sure and always go a size bigger if you are on the upper end of the size scale.
I loved this pair! I want more of these and especially the CX01 Bikini! OMG, I love love the new prints that Cocksox has come up with for this year’s collection. Make sure you check them out. They have stripes and original animal prints as well. We will have those reviews soon.

Gone are the days where Gymwear is grey sweats. In the last year or so spandex and other form fitting gym wear is coming out. More guys are rocking the tights at the gym and are skipping the shorts over them!
One company making in roads to the work out wear is 10|11 is making a fun and fashionable work out line. Don’t worry if you don’t want the mesh tights above they have regular gym shorts and even sweats, but made stylish!
It’s great to see more companies doing Gymwear. I think this is a line that is amazing. This shows the design skills and creativity of 10|11. They are designing outside the box and doing something new and fun.
You may not wear it to the gym without shorts over some of them but there is something in this collection for everyone. I think you may step out of your comfort zone and try something different for the gym.

How did you discover your love of underwear, swim briefs, spandex, and gear?
We have always loved playing around with different styles of underwear. But honestly, it was probably porn that initially made us fall in love with underwear. Growing up men’s underwear was also very boring and bland. Porn really opened our eyes to the world of sexy men’s underwear.
What are your favorite styles to wear?
Jockstraps are definitely our favorite style because they show off the booty- duh! Haha
Why did you first start posting pics in underwear?
We have always enjoyed taking sexy pictures (both together and for each other) but they never really our phone’s photo album. We spontaneously decided one day to create a joint IG account where we could have an outlet for our more risqué photos. It’s always fun to try and sneak a sexy underwear pic in public places
Do
Most of our family and friends are blocked from our IG account, but now we’ve made so many friends through IG who share the same love of undies as us! 🙂
What have been some of the positive things that have happened since you started posting? Did you have any negative experiences?
The best part of creating 312husbands has been all of the cool people that we have met because of the pics that we have posted. We’ve gone to visit Instagram friends in different cities around the US, and plenty

Due to the naughty nature of our photos guys often assume that we are open and will try to flirt with us individually but we are actually not an open couple. One of the key factors
No matter the body type there are always people who will criticize you that you’re too big, too small, too young, too old, how do you deal with those?

One thing I have discovered is guys into underwear tend to be awesome guys. Have you made any friends that you may not have met otherwise?
Absolutely! We’ve made lots of fun underwear-loving friends through Instagram. We’re all just normal guys who share a love of fun, sexy underwear.

Black- it’s classically sexy.
