Men’s Underwear

Category

On a recent episode of Brief Talk After Dark, UNB Tim sat down with two titans of the spandex world—Andy E. Lycra and Fourway—to dive deep into the fetish side of spandex. The result was an honest, affirming, and inspiring conversation about what draws men to the tight, glossy world of Lycra and why it deserves more celebration and community.

Spandex: The Turn-On We Shouldn’t Hide

For many, spandex is more than just athletic gear—it’s a deeply personal fetish. Whether it was Adam West’s Batman suit or a pair of football pants that hugged all the right places, most spandex enthusiasts remember the moment it clicked. The fabric is transformative, sensual, and confidence-boosting. It reveals just enough, while still leaving something to the imagination.

Andy recalled early exposure through dancewear and classic superhero costumes, while Fourway shared how football gear in high school sparked his obsession. Both emphasized the texture, tightness, and sculpting power of spandex—how it hugs imperfections, enhances bulges, and turns you into someone new. It’s not just clothing. It’s a second skin.

Confidence: From Shame to Stride

One major theme was the journey from shame to confidence. For both guests, the early days involved hiding—sneaking out in gear under cover of darkness, taking photos in secret, or limiting their love of Lycra to the bedroom. But gradually, through baby steps, they began to embrace it publicly. Running, cycling, and gym workouts offered socially “acceptable” avenues for wearing tights and singlets out in the world. And with each step, confidence grew.

Now, Fourway cycles through Boston in full skinsuits, gets compliments instead of stares, and feels more like himself in spandex than without. Andy, while still building his courage, recently stepped out in public in a Spider-Man suit during a trip to Thailand—an act of visibility he hopes to repeat more often.

Fetishwear and the Joy of Fabric

Beyond public gear, the trio celebrated the more erotic, fetish-driven side of spandex. Brands like End to End and Armoryse design suits with deliberate bulge enhancement, butt framing, and body contouring that go far beyond performance wear. While not for everyday use, these pieces serve a powerful purpose—helping men feel sexy, confident, and expressive in ways other fabrics simply can’t.

Andy described his love for zentai suits and sheer spandex, while Fourway lauded full-body technical suits, especially those with precise seams, sculpted pouches, and strategic cutouts. As Tim put it, spandex lets you be “someone else in your own skin.” It’s about transformation and fantasy—and that deserves to be celebrated.

Building a Spandex Community

Despite the widespread appeal of spandex, the community around it is still fragmented. Unlike leather or rubber, which have well-established events and gatherings, spandex lovers often fly solo. But that’s starting to change.

Fourway has built a small but dedicated group of local gear lovers who meet for hikes, kayaking, or just hanging out in tights. Andy has started nudging UK-based guys to connect at club nights and events, and UNB Tim is exploring meetups through his podcast and blog.

All three agreed that visibility, conversation, and respectful wear are key to normalizing spandex—and helping others feel seen. Whether it’s through social media, small meetups, or bigger dreams of a dedicated spandex gathering, the goal is clear: show the world that men in spandex aren’t oddities—they’re confident, creative, and connected.

The Final Word

As Fourway said on the podcast, “There’s nothing wrong with wearing spandex. Guys can wear spandex. It’s not an issue.” The more we talk about it, the more we destigmatize it—and the closer we get to a world where no one has to hide what they love.

So go ahead—pull on that singlet, slide into those tights, and step out into the world. Whether for sport, fashion, or fetish, spandex is for you. Be bold, be visible, and be yourself.

I have had so many amazing things happen to me because of UNB. These range from shoots to Vegas trips to meeting so many people. Some of them are famous and infamous. Lastly, one of the most special to me is the podcast. But all in all, it has been one of the best decisions of my life. That doesn’t mean that there haven’t been bad times, but the good outweighs the bad by far.

I will summarize some of the most iconic UNB moments and give you a behind-the-scenes view. The good, bad, and ugly. You will discover that things didn’t go as smoothly as they seemed. And I want to bring back the shoots. It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a few years. Stay tuned on that.

Here are some of the things I plan to talk about

  • We’ll go in depth on our guides, both swim and holiday, and our one and only Valentine’s shoot.
  • Vegas stories, and there are so many, like the first time I met Andrew from N2N. And the unmet and greets we had in Vegas. And why Vegas fell apart
  • The beginning of the podcast, what I feel it lacked, and why I never took off
  • Some behind-the-scenes videos of the current shows, especially the ones I love, have just come together. We have had some magic on the show.

I know I’m missing a ton of great stories, and as I remember them, I will write them. And never fear—new things are happening all the time, so the stories will keep going on and on. Lastly, feel free to suggest topics and Unb events to write about. The first post will be our very first guide, which was a swim guide with one model.

1. Delay Incoming

Hey everyone—just a quick update! I had planned to record an editor’s‑note podcast, but this past week has been incredibly draining. A lot of things piled up at once. You may have seen some of it on social media; I won’t go into every detail now. Because of that, the podcast is postponed until the weekend—possibly even next week, depending on how things settle out.

I’ve got two massive 14‑ to 16‑hour days ahead, back‑to‑back. On top of an already hectic life, it’s been challenging. It’s nothing life‑changing—just one of those weeks where everything hits all at once and knocked me off track. I’m still working through some emotions and logistics.

2. Podcast Schedule Strategy

We’re already recorded through August, so we’re in good shape on content. Moving forward, I’ll separate recording and release dates to avoid delays. Once a guest is booked, I’ll confirm both recording and release dates. Some episodes are still pending, so the schedule remains tentative—though we’ve shared a draft with Patreon supporters.

3. Expanding the Team

I’m looking for a few more hosts to bring fresh voices. They’ll each have their own style, opinions, and rhythm, and be encouraged to own their podcasts. I’m prioritizing diversity and authenticity. Early on, I admit I was a bit controlling—but now I’m ready to step back, encourage growth, and welcome new energy.

4. Blog Relaunch & Streamlining

The blog plan is complete; now it’s a matter of getting mentally into gear to write regularly again. In the past, I used Sundays for content production—posts plus automated social media scheduling. That workflow worked well. I’m exploring automation for BlueSky (and possibly still for Twitter). I’m considering returning to a streamlined prep-and-schedule routine.

5. Affiliate & Ad Update

As of last month, blog ad revenue is practically zero—only a very small sponsor paid, and even that didn’t fully deliver. I’ve removed all ad networks. Now I’m relying on affiliate links—these appear in the sidebar of UNBblog.com. Clicking them supports both you and the blog. I removed the persistent top‑of‑page ad that caused design issues. If we ever use it again, it’ll only be for special announcements.

6. Reader Survey Coming Soon

Typically, the survey runs in March, but this year got away from me. It’s coming soon. We’re moving survey hosting from Google to Microsoft and revamping questions to include more inclusive categories: sexuality (non‑binary, asexual, poly/open/playing poly, etc.) and relationship status. I’m finalizing graphics and questions and plan to launch as soon as possible.

What’s Next

Podcast editing has begun (I’m a few minutes in). Aim is to drop the episode over the weekend—assuming these back‑to‑back 16‑hour days don’t push me further behind. Wednesday is set aside for rest, and Thursday I hope to return refreshed and resume blog work.

Support Options

I truly appreciate all of your support. If you’d like to help keep things going, Patreon and the UNB store are great places to start. Even better: use our affiliate links—they give you a discount, and we receive a small commission. It’s a win-win.

Have a great week, and I’ll talk to you soon.

In this engaging conversation, Unb Tim interviews Stevie, also known as Undies Cub, exploring his journey of self-discovery, body image, and confidence through the lens of underwear culture. They discuss the challenges of navigating relationships, the double standards in swimwear, and the importance of self-expression in a world that often imposes restrictive norms. Stevie shares his experiences of embracing his identity and inspiring others to feel confident in their own skin, regardless of societal expectations. The conversation highlights the need for more open discussions about body positivity and the celebration of diverse expressions of masculinity.

Summer is in full swing, and it’s time to settle a question that’s been simmering on the beach for years—which tan line truly reigns supreme: the Speedo or the Thong?

On an upcoming episode of the Brief Talk Podcast, we’re diving headfirst into this fun, cheeky, and surprisingly passionate debate. I’ll be representing Team Speedo, because there’s something undeniably iconic about that bold V tan line. It’s classic, confident, and unmistakably hot.

But we all know this wouldn’t be a real showdown without a worthy opponent. That’s where you come in.

Which of our resident Thongers should step up and join me for this friendly face-off?

We’ve had some amazing voices on the podcast who proudly wear their thongs and their confidence, and now it’s time to go head-to-head in a fun debate that explores more than just tan lines.

Here are a few of the topics we’ll be taking on:

  • Tan Line Aesthetics: Is the sharp Speedo V or the minimal thong Y more appealing?
  • Confidence Required: Which takes more boldness to wear in public, and why?
  • Function vs Fashion: Can you actually swim, play, and lounge comfortably in a thong?
  • Flirt Appeal: What draws more attention from others—classic or daring?
  • Social Media Performance: What do followers react to more—a Speedo post or a thong reveal?
  • Travel Considerations: Are thongs still controversial in certain destinations?

The goal isn’t to crown a winner—well, maybe just a little—but to have fun exploring how personal style, body confidence, and culture shape our preferences.

So let’s hear it: Which Brief Talk Thong Guy should take me on?

Drop your suggestions in the comments or reach out on social. We’ll be picking one brave soul to join me on the show for a fun and lively conversation.

Get ready—this is going to be one of our hottest episodes yet.

Male Power is raising temperatures and eyebrows with their latest drop: the Hot Mesh Collection — a sizzling lineup of men’s underwear designed to make a statement.

This collection was built for the guy who’s not afraid to show off. With no-roll waistbands and secure jock leg bands, each piece offers a sleek, supportive fit that flatters and stays in place. Whether you’re slipping into the Short, strapping up in the Jock, or taking it all the way in the Thong, Hot Mesh is engineered to boost your confidence and demand attention.

Because let’s be real — this isn’t just underwear. It’s a power move.

This week, we saw the end of an era when Andrew Christian announced the end of an era in underwear. Andrew Christian announced that he would be stepping away from his brand to focus on his next chapter. Although this was not a surprise to me, it came as a shock.

When Andrew burst onto the underwear scene, he was a “gay” brand and had no shame about it. He embraced being different and putting his spin on underwear. And this continues to this day; he always took risks in design, color, and fabric. He was one of the first brands to be unapologetically gay, which led to other brands entering the market and finding their place in a crowded space.

Being a gay brand didn’t come without controversy over the last 20-plus years. I remember when the Car Wash video came out, and people were upset that he had porn stars in the video and it was “explicit.” Let’s be real: underwear is about feeling sexy and fun, and these ads (that kept coming and continued) brought attention to the brand. He also used many gay porn stars and influencers in his photography and videos. He had a regular group of models who worked with him regularly. We interviewed many of them over the years.

To throw my two cents in the convo, many of the pairs that Andrew created were sometimes over the top and many times minimal or blogtastic. He was never going to get regular models to wear these designs for pictures, and having porn stars and guys willing to show off made it easier for him to put pics out. He also created calendars each year, which were included with the purchase of several pairs until just recently. It was a staple for many men and something they eagerly anticipated each year. Whether you liked it or not, it got you talking about the brand. He accomplished his goal.

He also had issues with body-inclusive designs. Several videos were criticized for their content. One had a bigger guy coming to the model search, and the judges jeered. He would be called out by many guys, including those of all sizes; he eventually developed lines for larger guys. However, by this time, other brands catering to larger individuals had entered the market, and many of them didn’t purchase it.

One thing that I know many of you didn’t like but was remarkable was his book at the end of the first Trump administration. The book was titled “Sex Power Freedom. “This book was released in 2017. It was to empower the LGBT+ community and fight against the discrimination we face. I have two copies: the Silver one that was on sale through the site and the gold one that was only given away. We even gave one away on the site. These are now collector’s items!

One big thing I heard was the quality of the underwear. When he first started, if memory serves me correctly, he made it all in LA. However, after his sudden rise in popularity, he had to outsource the production overseas, causing many of his team members to move on to other brands. This was a valid criticism, but to scale up so rapidly, it was necessary to adjust to meet demand. All the pairs I had were good, not as good as those early pairs, but not horrible either.

Another thing he excelled in was the pouch. He made one of my top 5 pouches, the Almost Naked pouch. The Trophy Boy was a little too big (and was suitable for about 95% of the population; if you can fill that out, I tip my cap to you). Ever since I tried this pouch, I’ve been in love. It wasn’t a tight, ergonomic pouch, but one that allowed you to hang naturally. If he does close, I will have to find another one to replace this on my top 5 list, which is annoying because pouches are the most critical thing to me when it comes to underwear. This pair was like Goldilocks; it wasn’t too big or too small. It was just right.

I have received numerous messages from men who got their start with Andrew Christian, and the brand was the one that brought them into the world of underwear, making them feel like they belonged. It was a brand that was unashamedly gay, and they thought they could express themselves fully. Many have moved on from AC and gone to other brands, but it holds a special place in their hearts. Love AC or hate him, he deserves a place in the Underwear Hall of Fame for all he did to get more guys to care about their underwear. I have so much I want to include here, but this post would be too long; I hope this makes sense and allows you to look back and reflect on your journey with Andrew Christian.

In the latest episode of Brief Talk After Dark, UNB Tim dives deep into the shiny, stretchy world of spandex with special guest Ryan, also known online as The Dapper Doberman. A proud spandex aficionado and collector based in Ontario, Ryan shares his journey into gear, fetishwear, and the thriving underground community that embraces it all.

From childhood fascinations with superheroes and Saturday morning cartoons to nervously purchasing his first Speedo in a department store, Ryan recounts his earliest memories of discovering his love for spandex. Like many gear lovers, he shares the familiar narrative of exploring his identity in secret, sneaking time online to research this mysterious, shiny material and navigating the challenges of purchasing and hiding gear from parents.

What makes Ryan stand out in the spandex community is his extensive collection of rare Olympic gear. He’s personally messaged hundreds of athletes to acquire authentic suits—bobsled, luge, speed skating—you name it. His passion is both in the gear itself and the “thrill of the hunt,” as he describes reaching out and building a unique, often irreplaceable collection.

But it’s not just about the sleek looks or exclusivity—Ryan and Tim bond over how empowering spandex can feel. They reminisce about the early days of gear obsession, the excitement of trying it on for the first time, and how confidence can grow through embracing self-expression in gear. Ryan also dives into his love for “gaudy gear”—bold colors, tacky patterns, and 80s-inspired prints that turn heads and spark nostalgia.

They also discuss how spandex still exists in a sort of kink limbo. Often overlooked or underrepresented at traditional fetish events, spandex isn’t always taken seriously. But Ryan sees that changing, especially with brands like Amoresy, Strap Metal, and MR S Leather beginning to embrace more flashy, fetish-friendly styles. He also drops tips for finding custom prints and working with independent creators, championing a more inclusive and creative gear culture.

The conversation touches on everything from cosplay suits to collegiate wrestling singlets, from thrift store hacks to why more guys need to stop worrying about judgment and just wear what makes them feel good.

This episode is more than just a gear talk—it’s a love letter to self-discovery, expression, and community. Whether you’re a seasoned spandex lover or just curious about what makes the gear community tick, Ryan’s candid stories and UNB Tim’s infectious enthusiasm make for a compelling listen.

Listen now on your favorite podcast platform and follow Ryan (@dapperdoberman) to see his incredible collection come to life. And don’t forget—this week, wear your spandex at least one day. You’ve earned it.

Hey guys, it’s no secret that I want to start a book club here at UNB, and we’re going to give it a shot with the Männer Tanga book! The Männer Tanga is a book all about thongs—I think it’s one of the first books dedicated to a style of underwear!

How will the book club work?

  1. You have to buy the book. You can get the book from the UNB Store or, if you are in Europe, from the Männer Tanga site. I don’t think we will see this in libraries, and there is no digital format.
  2. Then you have to read the book. It’s approximately 130 pages. It’s the perfect beach read to wear with your thong!
  3. We will host our first-ever live show through Riverside, allowing readers to call in and share their opinions. PLUS, we will have one of the Authors in the book club.
  4. I will create a study guide for the book club and include questions for you to weigh in on. This will be posted a week before the book club show.
  5. Don’t worry if you can’t make the live show; we’ll post it as a podcast. The date and time are to be announced.

Things to know about Riverside.

  1. You need a Chrome-based browser to participate. If you have the app, it will not allow call-ins and must be on a laptop or desktop.
  2. You don’t need an account to join. We will provide a link that you can use to join, just like you would for any other live event.
  3. We are just doing audio for this and no video.

I’m working on setting up the time and date; please note that it will be early on a weekend morning due to the time difference between Germany and Atlanta.
