Performing in a musical this weekend, singing and dancing, I decided was the perfect opportunity to try out the Pistol Pete Zone Jock. A little untraditional in the setting, the Zone Jock made of 95% cotton and 5 % spandex held up fantastically, keeping everything in place very well.

Lookwise, the Zone Jock is average for a jock, not much flash, nothing very different looking from any other jock. The efficiency of the pouch is where I’ve found the Zone Jock to really shine. The material is extremely soft and comforting while keeping taut hugging everything very nicely preventing very much movement. No bouncy balls here!

While I have reviewed one or two jocks that have not had an issue with the straps in the back rolling, this seems to be a major issue overall in jocks. Unfortunately, the Pistol Pete Zone Jock continues in this trend. Throughout the show (when not on stage), I found myself rearranging the straps so that they sat properly on the bottom of my cheeks.

At $19 from pistolpete.com and available in two attractive color combinations (navy/sky, black/red), the Pistol Pete Zone Jock is a great buy if you’re just looking for a jock. It’s not fancy, but it does the job of a jock very well at a very affordable price.

PROS

  • Price
  • Does what a good jock should do
  • Color combinations

CONS

  • Those damn straps that roll (why can most jock companies not get this right?)

The International Mr. Leather Competition and Convention takes place every year in Chicago and involves 8000 men and women dressed in leather, rubber, or whatever other fetish gear you can imagine (David and I spent one evening in saran wrap and duct tape).  One recurring theme that I noticed throughout the weekend this year was the inundation of IML with singlets including the N2N PX singlet!

I wore my N2N PX singlet around the fetish market on our second day at IML. Just while wearing it (approximately and hour or two), I saw 2 others wearing the exact same singlet (blue/white) and one guy wearing the same singlet in the yellow/black color combination.

In this very sexy slinky singlet (say that five times fast), the solid fabric is made of 79% recycled polyester and 21% spandex, while the mesh fabric is 96% micro polyester and 4% spandex.  While I love most of the design of the singlet (it is seriously sexy), I did have an issue with the back strap. On myself and the others that I saw wearing the singlet (and I saw a variety of body types), there is always a space between the lower back and the back strap that detracts from the look of the singlet.

My biggest issue with this singlet however is that (other than at an event like IML) I’m not sure how much use someone can get from the singlet. While it is definitely sexy, it’s not exactly something that can be worn underneath clothing for an extended period of time, and it’s definitely not gym wear with the exposure of the low cut.

PROS

  • Sexy
  • Different
  • Very popular already

CONS

  • Space between back and back strap
  • When can it be worn?

With most good underwear, at some point during a day of wear, you should start to forget that you’re wearing underwear and not notice it. Thongs seem to be the exception to this rule as a good thong while not making you think about it all day. It will every once in a while rub the right way to remind you that it’s there. Made of a nylon, elastane, and lycra mix, the Bum-Chums Black Sneak Peek Thong does just that in all the right ways.

While a bit timid to immediately wear the thong for a full day, I felt ballsy (no pun intended) one day and decided to go for it. I’m very glad I did. They were extremely comfortable and every once in a while I’d move my body in a way that the thong strap would rub in just the right way. When that happens, it just makes you feel sexy for just that one instant, no matter where you are or what else you are wearing.

Speaking of sexy, these are sure to get some looks in (and out) of the bedroom. The mesh is beautiful and the shape of the underwear, both back and front is fantastic framing everything perfectly. The only place you may not want to wear them is the gym (between the thong rubbing, and the mesh not hiding anything, it may not be the appropriate activewear)

This underwear is a fantastic all-around thong. It’s smooth, sexy, comfortable and appropriate for everyday wear. Next time you think about being a little daring in everyday life, I highly recommend trying out the Bum-Chums Black Sneak Peek Thong!

Coming off of a very strong first pair, I’m now ready to conquer another Bum-Chums review. But will it fair as well as its counterpart?

Yes! I’m thoroughly impressed with Bum-Chums so far. Their underwear is sexy, stylish, unique, well built, and not badly priced. The Bum-Chums In2Cooler Air Brief is no exception. Made of a cotton/Lycra/polyamide mesh blend, and available in white, black, and red. This brief encompasses everything that I’m starting to feel Bum-Chums stands for.

Take for example the mesh. Other companies mesh can look trashy, either cheaply made or just being too blunt in what is shown. Bum-Chums (while showing off a great deal in this pair) has found a way to show off the mesh in a very playful and classy way. The mesh is well made, and shaped to show off, but not totally expose.

They are perfect for the average day of wear. I’m not sure I buy into the idea of the mesh cooling your lower bits, but they are quite comfortable even during an early summer picnic.

If Bum-Chums continues in this direction, I’ll have a new favorite brand. They’re fun, sexy, comfortable and always leave me looking forward to the next time that I can wear them (as well as my next pair that I get to review).

PROS

  • Comfortable
  • Sexy
  • Playful while still being classy

CONS

  • Don’t clean themselves?

My second pair of lacey undies left a far better impression on me than the first. The lace jockstrap that I tried out last week left a negative first impression of lace undies. This very untraditional boyshort comes in red, black, and white (I reviewed red) and is made up of 85% nylon, 15% spandex.

The comfort level was the biggest surprise to me. They don’t look at all comfortable, and I thought I would spend all day itching at hair getting stuck in the lace and readjusting, but luckily I was very easily able to forget that I was even wearing them, a characteristic of every good pair of underwear.

Lookwise, it’s on the way to being attractive, but it’s still not quite there for me. I love the concept, but the execution lacks in my eye, the biggest negative being the metal medallions on each strap of the sides of the underwear. They look great on the package, but out of the package look more like plastic. I was unable to easily remove the medallions (I don’t have anything to cut through metal in the house), but they seem unnecessary. I have to say though that the way that the underwear hugs the rear makes a fantastic outline of the bottom of the um… bottom. The rear view is very hot!

Available from the MaleBasics website for $19.50, the MaleBasics Lacie Boyshort hasn’t quite given me the incredible lacey experience that I’ve been hoping for since I first learned about them, but besides the great price, they’ve started to leave me feeling positive for the future of lace undies.

I’ve been dying for months to try out some of the new lace underwear made for men. I love the idea of male lingerie, and I love the playful blend and balance of the masculine with the feminine. One of my favorite photographers Thomas Synammon has an incredible project called Leather and Lace, which completely lends itself to this balance. So when I heard that I’d be receiving the MaleBasics Lace Jockstrap made of 85% nylon, 15% spandex, I was excited to say the least! Available in red, white, and black (I reviewed black), the idea of the masculine jockstrap balanced with the femininity of the lace, sounded perfect!

I tested the jockstrap on a work day that finished at the gym. I had some minor issues at work such as the straps rolling (there’s no elastic holding them in place), and a little bit of trouble with hair getting caught in the paisley patterning, but for the most part, I was able to look past the minor discomforts. At the gym however, I realized that although this is a jockstrap, it is not meant for active use. The straps rolled non-stop, they didn’t breathe very well, and more trouble with hair getting caught.

This was a great first try by MaleBasics at blending the masculine and feminine, but there were a few other things that MaleBasics needs to fix in their next iteration… besides the straps that kept rolling (it would be great to maybe put a little elastic in them to keep them in place), my biggest issue is with the construction of the underwear. At least on the pair that I received, there were loose strings hanging off all over. Because of how delicate the underwear is, I was afraid to pull on them, so they’re still hanging off. On a side note, it would be great if MaleBasics could find a way to make them machine washable (they are hand-wash only).

The concept is definitely there though. I plan on examining other types of lace underwear, as well as reexamining MaleBasics if/when they come out with their next iteration!

PROS

  • Great concept!
  • Balance of masculine and feminine
  • Minus the loose strings, they look fantastic

CONS

  • Rolling up of the straps
  • Construction issues

Calling the Petit-Q String Ohlala underwear would be doing it a great disservice. This thong-like accouterment is delicate, fun, sexy, and so different from anything I’ve ever worn. Described as male lingerie, the Ohlala comes in black and is made of (as far as I can tell, there are no tags with the material makeup) cotton and spandex.

I was a little worried about whether the Ohlala would be comfortable to wear for a whole day, so I tried it out one night while going for dinner instead. While it was comfortable during the meal, by dessert I was already starting to get a little antsy to get it off. My recommendation is not to use this for everyday wear, but save it for a special occasion (or a few special occasions).

What’s great about this underwear is its versatility. One day you can wear it as a thong, one day just a pouch, and because of the snaps on it, there are a large variety of ways that the item may be worn. The downside to this however, is that it can be extremely confusing trying to figure out how to get it on. When none of the snaps are together, the underwear becomes a puzzle that can take a bit of effort to solve. It would have been nice if they came with an instruction manual of the various ways to put the snaps together. Before I did more research online, I didn’t even realize that there was more than one way to snap it together. If I hadn’t researched, I may have missed out on one of the biggest benefits to the Petit-Q Ohlala, and just thought that I’d received a thong in the mail.

Fun name… fun jock!  The Fruity Cheeky Cherry Jock (how great is that name?!) from Bum-chums (made in UK) have a great color, great shape, and great feel.

Everything from the jock straps in the back to the front pouch look and feel fantastic.  The pouch is silky smooth, great shape, and nice protect your bits.  The jock straps nicely hold your butt cheeks in place, framing them perfectly without bunching.

About the only negative I’ve found to this jock is the size of the name on the waistband.  It’s only slightly larger than the brand name on most waistbands, but not being a huge fan of being a walking advertisement, it’s enough to bug me just a tad.

All in all a fantastic jock which at $24 online is not bad at all for any jock.  Anyone who’s a jock fan will love it!

PROS

  • Amazing jock!
  • Fun name/look/feel

CONS

  • Oversize brand name on waistband
