We are well into winter here in the Northeast. What better way to weather the two feet of snow we received in Boston last week than with a pair of long johns and a cashmere sweater! Much to my luck, two days before we were hit by the super storm, Nemo, I received a pair of Male Basics Microfiber Long Johns to take for a test run.

These long johns are made of a very soft microfiber fabric, which had a nice weight to it. They are fitted throughout the majority of the leg, with some extra room near the lower calves, where there is a cuff at the ankle. There is a grey seam down the front and back of each leg, as well as the center of the front and back. One thing I really enjoyed about these MaleBasics was the front pouch. I have had many pairs prior to this particular one, but non have supplied me with the right amount of support without wearing a pair of underwear underneath them; this pouch has a center seam, and provided a gentle lift to the ‘goods.’ They hugged the body without being too tight or too loose, and were perfect for lounging around the house, and running around the corner for a quick coffee fix during the storm. The only thing I was not satisfied with was the contrast seaming; while it highlighted my best ‘features,’ it was not consistent, and you could see where the stitching was too close, snagged or too spread out.

These microfiber long johns currently are available in black, and have a light grey contrast stitching and silver and black logo waistband. The tags on the interior of the waistband are soft and sewn into the band, as to not cause irritation to the lower back. The fabric, made of 78% nylon and 12% spandex, also held its shape and elasticity following a few wears around the house and under a pair of jeans during the blizzard.

Pros

  • super soft
  • great fit
  • low rise

Con’s

  • Inconsistent stitching

I squealed with excitement when I opened my mailbox to find that my first ever pair of N2N’s had arrived. I was on my way out of town for the weekend, so ran up to my condo to toss it on, and skip out of town. Upon first inspection, I thought that I would never fit into the tiny undergarment, made from 90% cotton 10% spandex. The waist and pouch all looked too small, however, much to my surprise, the ultra thin fabric stretched to just the right size.

I grabbed my suitcase and set out for the journey out of town. It was a hot spring day, so the breathable material was perfect for running last minute errands around town. I completely forgot that I even had it on! I was rocking the white pair, as the only other option is black. The fit of the small was out of this world, just the right amount of stretch, while maintaining their shape as the day wore one. After schlepping through the city, I hopped in my car. The thong stayed in place during my errands and even after all the getting in and out of my car that I did. After time, especially when sitting, sometimes the back strap of the thong can have a little ‘pull,’ which sometimes leads to slight discomfort, however, that was not the case with the Cotton G.

Again, the thong is constructed out of a stretchy cotton/spandex blend. The seams are all well-stitched, and finished properly, meaning there were no loose threads or uneven stitches. The waist straps are about an inch wide, while the rear strap is about a half an inch. This thong has a single-layered contoured pouch with a seam that runs down the center, giving things a little boost. The way the pouch is seamed and contoured lifts your package up and out, with out doing so in an uncomfortable way, because we all know those built in straps and cups get awkward after a few hours. The care tag is very small and located at the top of the back of the thong, made out of a soft material, so it did not cause discomfort.

I cannot even begin to express my love for this thong. It is perfect! From the single-layered, contoured pouch to the stretchy breathable material, this might be the best thong I have ever had the pleasure of wearing!

In terms of care, N2N suggests a cold hand or machine wash, and a quick bout in the dryer on low/medium heat. I put them through the wringer and they held up quite well! They go for around $15 and come in classic black and white!

Pros

–                single layered, contoured pouch

–                soft, breathable fabric

–                low rise, barely there

Con’s

–           only two color options

I recently had the pleasure of trying out the Clever Monaco Thong in white. This pair is part of Clever’s staple collection. Upon first inspecting the garment, I noticed that the construction was quite good. I really liked the logo on the 1 14/4th inch waistband and how it was tone on tone. The pouch was on the small side, yet was single-layered, so there was a little extra stretch due to the 81% Nylon, 19% Spandex material. Due to the thin single-layered pouch, the front is slightly see-through. The contoured pouch also has a front seam and attaches to the strap just under the ‘gents.’ The strap was just the right proportion, and provided a little extra coverage (if that’s possible) where it meets the top of the waistband.

My only complaint with the Monaco Thong is the sizing – Clever products run on the small side, so make sure you size up! I have a 30” waist and normally take a small, however, according to their size chart; I should have tried out a medium.

I wore this thong to around town running errands and attending brunch with friends. While the thong was the wrong size, it was very comfortable for the day’s activities.

  • Classic design,
  • Lightweight.

Let me introduce you to the Petit-Q Kini, a cross between a bikini and a thong! This cheeky blue string bikini with white contrast piping is, in very small brief! There is a center seam that runs down the front of the pouch and continues up the back of the Kini’s single layered pouch.

The pouch is slightly contoured, yet doesn’t provide much support. The backside has a very cheeky cut, showing off one’s assets, which are accentuated by the center seam running up the back. When positioned correctly, the Kini is quite flattering, however, throughout the day, these briefs required a lot of readjusting, as the sides were constantly shifting and the back tended to bunch. I think this was partially because it was a size medium, I feel that the small might have held things a little tighter, and thus, stayed in place.

The sizing was spot on, and the Nylon 92%, Spandex 8% fabric pouch was very comfortable and breathable.

  • Cheeky cut,
