Garcon Model did a great spread in Adon Magazine – shot by photographer Ted Sun: http://www.adonmagazine.com/editorials/adon-exclusive-model-alex-valley-by-ted-sun
In the last few years, jockstraps have become more fashion than function. As I sit here and watch the Summer Games in Rio, I don’t think I have seen a hint of a jock. The only sport that I have seen them in recently is American Football. Athletes are no going for engineered designs from Nike and Under Armour. Plus with many of the uniforms being super tight having a jock line doesn’t seem to be in Fashion.
In 2009, I proclaimed that it was the year of the jock. It proved that was the turning point in jocks. They have moved from an under garment that you only wore in contact sports. To a pair of underwear you wanted to show off. In 2009 we saw more brands redesigning the classic jock. Gone was the nylon fabric and in comes breathable and comfortable fabric. Many used spandex blends to give great support without being too constricting. While others used breathable materials such as modal.
The biggest change was color. More brands were stepping outside the black or white. Jocks now come in a rainbow of colors. You name it, you can find a jock in it that hue. Some of the more popular colors over the years have been pinks and purples. Not what many would call masculine, but the mix of a non-masculine color with something masculine has it’s appeal to many guys. Baskit was the first to make a pink jock and it was one of their best sellers. While others have mixed color patterns together to create some really amazing jocks. I”m looking at you 2EROS and your Vavoom collection.
Solid colors aren’t the only thing brands have played with. Prints have become huge in jocks. One of the first I remember making them was Gigo in 2009. But many more brands have created amazing prints over the years. The trend of prints in men’s underwear is one that is picking up steam every year.
Lastly, there have been brands who have taken the jock and made it their own. C-IN2’s Grip Jock is one of those jocks. The Grip jock is about function and working out. They thought outside the box and created a new design. Jack Adams is another brand that has gone in a bit of a different direction. They have taken the jock and added zippers and lace up fronts. Still making it their own, I wouldn’t say fetish but it’s definitely fun.
Speaking of fetish how could we not mention the fetish jock! The jock will always have a place in the fetish community. Even back in the 70s/80s the jock found a special place in the leather community. I think it’s what kept it alive over the years. Now we have brands like Nasty Pig making leather, camo and other fetish jocks over the years. Then you have Cellblock 13 making neoprene jocks and harnesses.
The classic jock is a dying pair of underwear. The Classic Bike #10 Jock is no longer going to be made. Other ones that have had the “Classic design” are giving way to the new waistbands (branded with the company name) and new fabric pouches. I have a special place for the classic jock in my heart. It was one pair I had to have when discovering my love of underwear. But, I feel, the resurgence of the fashion jock did in the classic. For those who are like me and want that classic waistband and pouch. Never fear brands like Jock Up have a pair for you!
No matter what type of guy you are in jocks. Keep wearing them and have fun doing it. Pick whatever color, fabric or design you want. It’s about feeling great and wearing what you want!

Since it’s Jockstrap Wednesday, we needed to share something jock-ish! We choose the Good Boy Gone Bad Aiden Jock in white! It’s a jock brief, which is the next best thing to a jock!
The Rio games are in full swing. Swimmers are in the pool making world records and winning gold medals. Gymnasts are vaulting and somersaulting. And insert many more sports for the summer. Now that all eyes are on Rio, will all eyes be on the swimwear? Known for their Sunga swimwear for men, will we see it take the spotlight and go mainstream?
Swimmers now wear Jammers. Long spandex short like suits. Divers are the only one still sporting the swim brief. But for the most part of the games they are a long ago memory of days past. However, the people in Brazil are proudly sporting their Sungas. The Wall Street Journal made a long post on it today. “Locals are showing off their Sungas on Rio’s Beaches.” I would say read it because swimwear made mainstream press.
However, that said It feels more like a “Oh look at them” piece in the WSJ. The mainstream press in the US always makes underwear and swimwear more of a butt of the joke rather than actually talking about the history and why Brazilians wear them. This short Paragraph sticks out:
The men’s swim brief—also known as the man-kini, banana hammock or marble bag—is rarely used in the U.S. outside competitive swimming circuits, as its predominant nickname in English, the speedo, suggests. But in Brazil, the so-called sunga is a favorite for male beachgoers of all sizes, shapes and ages. – Wall Street Journal
This detracts from the advice they gave about who should wear what color of Sunga. Which is great advice, but gets lost after talking about how a guy used sunscreen behind NBC’s on-air coverage one day. I, also, think they have the definition wrong as well. Our friends at CARIOCA have this definition on their site ”
def. SUNGA (SOONGA):Is the Brazilian word for men’s swimwear. Sungas are made from heavier nylon and are cut to form a nearly horizontal band across the body.
Tom Daley, Olympic Diver for Great Britain, did a Vlog of him picking up his Olympic Kit. It’s a behind the scenes look at what goes on. We hope you enjoy this behind the scenes look.

Where will your money go?
You may think we lead a glamours life in the world of men’s underwear. But we don’t. We are a group of guys who were brought together by our love of underwear! But we’ve heard a few of you asking, “Where will my money go?”
- Hosting fees – It takes our own server to run UNB, which is not cheap.
- Editing – I know, I know sometimes our writing ain’t good. (Sorry had to do it!) I have used two free resources Hemingway App and Free Grammarly. But would love to get a paid subscription to go a step farther.
- Travel – We go to Magic every Aug/February but want to start going to LA and have face time with brands
- Shoots – You guys want to see real guys and the only way for that to happen is to for it to be user financed.
- Technology – Some of us are on computers on their last leg. Mine included I just pray every day that it keeps working. But it’s days are numbered.
- Full Time – We want to do UNB full time. All of us, myself included have UNB as a passion project. If we had your support we could dedicate more time to create even more amazing content.
We have a few goals up already. The first is hosting and the next is Grammarly. But more will com in play soon. So, what do you guys get? Now every level gets in our private Patreon only Slack group. You can talk with other supports (and set up a pseudonym) and the editorial board of the site. You have a direct link to the ears of the guys who run the site! We also have a few more!
How do you donate? Go to the UNB Patereon page and donate. As little as $1 can help us out. If you can give more and think we are worth more, we just may send you undies sometime! Yes, we resort to bribery. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to us and we will gladly talk to you about them!

We posted quite a few pictures Adrian C. Martin took featuring Bwet Swimwear. Make sure you see the entire set of pictures!

It’s Swimwear Sunday. We will have just a few more of these. At the end of the month we will discontinue this feature. Since most of our readers are in the Northern Hemisphere, it won’t warrant a full post. Don’t worry, we still will be covering swimwear on a regular basis. Just not a day for it in our editorial calendar.
Each collection brings new swimwear. For those of us in the US, we are quickly leaving swim season. While those in the southern hemisphere are going to be just starting swim season. This year Clever has a brief, short and trunk. All in the same design. The new ones are:
The 2016-2 collection of swimwear is all prints. There aren’t any solid ones in the bunch. Yes, they still have solids in the line-up. The new ones are going bold and a lot of fun. We aren’t going to go into much detail on the individual sets of suits. All the styles are the same, the only thing different is the patterns. The new ones are:
The new swimsuit collections are:
Scandinavian Line
Scandinavian Swim Trunk – Clever 0610
Scandinavian Swim Brief – Clever 0614
Scandinavian Swim Short – Clever 0618
Bantu Collection
Bantu Swim Short – Clever 0611
Bantu Swim Brief – Clever 0615
Bantu Swim Short – Clever 0620
Egyptian Collection
Arawak Collection
I am loving this swimwear collection. I think its a totally bold move to do all prints in your swimwear. Some have done a few pairs but not all out prints. Prints have been HUGE in the world of underwear. It’s starting to move more into swimwear. Yes, we’ve had some tropical prints but the geometric prints are really starting to take hold.
Clever swim briefs are always on the more traditional cut. Meaning that they around 2 or more inches wide. They have never been known for making super skimpy cuts in the swim.
If you love these make sure you click the links to check them out! Find them at the Clever Moda site.

We are fast approaching the Fall underwear release season! One of the first to release each fall and spring is Clever Moda. Clever is known for their great prints and colors. This year is no different! They have come out with some super fun colors and prints. Prints are one of the biggest trends in men’s underwear right now! So what’s new this year? We will focus on Swimwear, Thongs, Briefs and Boxer Briefs.
We were going to write up the entire collection. But that’s too much to cover, this will have all the thongs and other posts will do swimwear, briefs and boxer briefs.
Each pair has a link to buy. If you love something make sure you click through!
Clever Thongs
We have quite a few thong lovers who read UNB. I think each year it grows more and more. Guys are discovering how great thongs are to wear every day. Thongs have always been in the Clever Moda collection. They devote a good portion of their designs to the style. They match other pairs in the collection as well. You will see an Ethnic Boxer Brief and brief. That means you can have the same design in multiple styles.
Clever has made ones that always looked like fashion to me. Meaning they take the design and style seriously and want it to fit in their collection. They don’t make a thong just to make one. I guess what I’m saying is they look classic and not trendy, at least to me. The three thongs we are going to cover are the Ethnic, One Human Race and Ancestral thongs.
Ethnic Thong
Ethnic Thong – Clever 1274 – Blue or Grey
One Human Race Thong
One Human Race Thong – Clever 1275 – Blue or Grey
Ancestral Thong
Ancestral Thong – Clever 1282 – Gold or Silver
See all the thongs on the Clever Moda site!
We love the PetitQ boys and the new collection is WILD and fun. This is the Mesh Chaps. They can be worn solo or with a pair under them. I think most would wear them without a pair under. Go wild and have fun!
The long wait is over! In just a few hours the games in Rio will officially kick off. We will be spending hours in front of our TV watching gymnastics, swimming, diving, beach volleyball and more. If you’re like me and can’t be at the games, why not wear some underwear to get you in the spirit? 2(X)IST has just released their Brazil collection.
The new Brazil collection is available in a No Show Brief and a Trunk. Each pair comes in a green or blue with the Brazil. The brief has the flag on the back and the trunk has it on the left hip. Both are super fun. I prefer the brief over the trunk. But that’s just my preference.
The collection has a few things that make it the perfect pair for the summer and watching the games. The collection is made of a 92% COTTON / 8% SPANDEX blend. Making the line perfect for summer. The waistband is also a special addition. To match the pair 2(X)IST created a Brazil-inspired waistband. The 2(X)IST in the front is a cut out of the Brazilian flag.
You can wear this pair for all 16 days of the games. Sometimes it’s great to just kick back in your underwear and watch your favorite event. If you’re a super fan of the games, you can get all four pairs (2 styles and 2 colors) and wear them to work during the games.
I hope we see a lot more companies making underwear to match what is going on in the world. It’s about time we incorporate our love of sports into our undies. Now that more guys are loving underwear we probably will see a lot more. I say great job 2(X)IST.

AllAmericanguys.com sent us some pics of Robby Barker from his recent photo shoot with photographer Michael Downs for the AllAmericanGuys project. We wanted to share one. We hope you enjoy
Check out the latest video of the Pictogram collection from Gigo! They have some great new pairs for 2016.
One of my new favorite companies is 4 Hunks Berlin. The new singlet is the Catcher Lad B Free Mesh Singlet. It has some major cut outs and super revealing. They have a very unique take on the world of men’s underwear and swimwear. This is just released, you can get it at the 4 Hunks site.
The biggest complaint we get by far is sizing. It is also the most asked question about any pair we profile on the blog. “Is the sizing true?” By being true we are speaking of the size medium being a 32. Then the other sizes are based off this size. Typically a small would be 29-30, Medium 32-34, large 36-38 and X-large being a 40-42. This is pretty much the standard for US sizing. Countries around the world have different sizes.
I hear many of you saying “How can we implement sizing standards right now?” While it may seem like a something easy to do. Just adjust sizing and bam you’re done. It’s not that simple. Brands would have to redo all their patterns and production. This isn’t a cheap thing to do for bands. Once production is set, it costs money for every change that you do in the process.
The next issue is production is worldwide. In the US we want a medium to be 32 inches. Other parts of the world they want smaller or larger sizes. People are built differently around the world. Some areas would not need the larger sizes. They may actually need sizes smaller than 28 inches. We must see the bigger picture in the world of underwear. As much as we would love standard sizings, it’s not something that will be happening anytime soon.
What can you do to deal with sizing issues?
First, make sure you check out our sizing charts page. We have most major brands there and their official sizing charts. We try to update it as much as we can but don’t always get bands on there. If there is one you want to see on it, let us know. We want this to be a one-stop spot for sizing questions.
Second, Its best to know general areas of the world and how their sizing runs. Working on UNB for 8 years, I have come to know when sizing runs different from the US.
- Japan – Sizing is typically smaller than the US. I have seen sizing for large and XL being 32 inches.
- Australia – Usually the sizing is similar to the US. aussieBum and Cocksox both are very similar to US Sizing.
- Columbia/Brazil – Sizing is typically smaller than US. Not as bad as Japan. XL can usually be around a 36-inch waist. Brands such as Clever Moda and Mundo Uncio.
- UK/Europe – European countries can be a bit of a crap shoot. Some brands are equal to US sizing and others run smaller. There is no set standard as to what is equal and what is smaller. Sukrew, BumChums and Big Boys Pants are comparable to US sizing. Then brands like Barcode Berlin, Bruno Banani and more.
Lastly, if you’re on the borderline of a size err on the side of caution. Always go up in the sizing. Don’t try to squeeze into a size that may be too small for you. Nothing sucks more than a pair of underwear that is too small. Some guys don’t want their pride hurt to know they have to wear a large or XL. For me, comfort always wins out in this debate. Plus, you can always cut out the tags so no one will know the size you bought.
You can’t avoid sizing issues. It’s one of those necessary evils of loving underwear. We won’t be getting universal sizing anytime soon. But you can avoid some issues. First, double check the size charts before you buy. Next, ask friends and even us at UNB about sizing for a brand before you buy. Lastly, if you buy a “larger” size than you normally wear don’t fret. Remember, who really is going to look at your size tag of your undies?
It’s Jockstrap Wednesday! We decided to do something a little fun for you guys today. We have many guys over the years who have asked for strapless jocks. A few companies have made them but they never seem to stick around too long. One of the newest strapless jocks is the Jack Adams Flyer Strapless Jock.
You may be asking “What the heck is a strapless jock?” A strapless jock is just that. A jock that is just a pouch without any straps attaching it. The pouch is held in place by magic! No, seriously, they are designed to stay in place by their design. You will fill the pouch with your junk and it will fit snug. Or that’s the plan. Some are more successful than others. I have a feeling the Jack Adams will be one of the better ones.
The Flyer has the traditional Jack Adams waistband. It’s about inch wide, give or take. The Jack Adams logo is front and center. Both colors, White and black, have the same waistband. It’s a black band with two contrasting red stripes. The pouches or cups as they call them, are the only color differentiating factors.
What is the advantage of this type of jock? The first is you get the support of a jock. If you’re reading this blog support and comfort are key. The second is the range of motion. Since there are no straps there are fewer ways to bind and constrict you. This can be a good thing depending on your activity.
If you haven’t ever worn one of these pairs. It may take a bit to get used to it. I have worn several different kinds over the years. Most of them are amazing. They fit great and easy to wear to work or any other activity.
