Why Tom Daley Should be an Underwear Spokes Person

The Olympics have gone into the history books. Michael Phelps is in the record books again and said he has retired from the sport. Usain Bolt proved he’s the fastest man on earth and has retired. Ryan Lotche…well we’ll just leave that right there. But one Olympian stands out to me, well for the purpose of being the spokesperson of an Underwear/Swimwear brand. That athlete is Tom Daley

I watched him dive in the preliminaries of the men’s 10 Meter. He was kicking butt. It was sure he was going to get the gold. He was blowing everyone out of the water. Then.. things didn’t go so well in the semi-finals. He got knocked out of the finals. He had an off day and nothing was meshing. We all have those sort of days, but for an Olympic Athlete, those days are much worse. He’ll have to wait four years till the next Olympics in Tokyo to go for gold. I think he’s one of the best divers in the sport.

Why do I pick Tom Daley to be the new face of an underwear/Swimwear brand? First, he has the look. Being a diver he has the body to model any style of underwear. Dare I say from trunks to thongs. And everything in between. Next, he’s had experience in front of the camera. He does a calendar each year and is familiar with shoots and how to look great in front of the camera. Lastly, we’ve seen him in small Adidas swim briefs on TV. This means he isn’t afraid to be seen in skimpy gear.

On top of those things, Tom can be articulate. He can speak in front of a camera and not come off as a “jock.” Meaning that he can talk more than just about his sport. His videos on his YouTube channel are awesome. He has a great personality and is a natural in front of the camera.

Brands that I think he would be great for a few brands. Classic brands the one that comes to mind is CK. CK is no stranger to having athletes in their ads. Possibly, 2(X)ist, although I don’t remember them ever having a celebrity spokesperson. As for other brands: HOM, Olaf Benz, Bruno Banani, Timoteo, and the list goes on and on. But the question is would he do it?

I know there are many of you out there who think the same. Tom won our poll about which Diver should be an underwear spokesperson. In fact, he won by a large margin. Review – King Style Series D- Eco-Fashion Tencel Fiber Brief

s-l300-2King Style Underwear provided me with these undies for review. This is my second pair of King Style Underwear that I have had the opportunity to review. If you are looking for something unique and have an open mind about your undies, check these out for sure.

Pros: The Rayon Spandex fabric is amazing and the style is totally on point

Cons: Too much fabric in the pouch flap, and watch your sizing on these as well

UNB John’s recommendation: These are a very fun pair of undies and if you are looking for something a little different that you can wear out for the night or wear all day give these a try. I recommend these for the fabric alone.

So this is the second pair in the King Style series that I had the opportunity to review. I actually liked these a lot better than the trunks that I reviewed.  Don’t get me wrong, the trunks are a pair I will keep and wear often, but these just seemed more my style. First off, I really like the contrasting colors around the leg openings. And the racing stripes down both sides. It just adds a little more fun and style to your typical pair of black briefs. The fabric, which was the first thing I noticed was very light and thin, but yet felt strong and not cheap at all. The waistband was similar, very thin and comfortable.

Just like the trunks, I reviewed from King Style. These have a very unique pouch in the front that keeps your balls and your shaft separate. The fabric in the construction of the pouch is flexible enough to move with you and adjust with the size of your shaft throughout the day. However, it seems like there is a lot of extra fabric in the pouch. It almost feels and looks like just a wad of extra fabric. On the flip side, the coverage over the butt is amazing. I love my squats at the gym. So I have a little extra back there and with most briefs I feel like my ass cheeks are hanging out, but not with these. They made my butt look amazing which is always a plus.

The fabric is amazing is it a Rayon Spandex mix that King Style calls Micro Tencel. It is very soft and breathable which is awesome. There Ebay store also says it is naturally wrinkle-resistant and environmentally sustainable. You have to try it to really understand the greatness of this fabric.

Gear Up with JockUp – Interview with an awesome Brand!

JockUp-Banner-1We got the chance to talk to Matthew at JockUp about his brand. It’s one we found and love the classic designs. We profiled their Jock as our Jockstrap Wednesday, Jock of the week a few weeks back. But, we wanted to introduce you to the brand!

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us. JockUp came to my attention on Instagram. I noticed you were following us and I love the pictures you were posting. Then I clicked and saw you were a brand. At first, I thought you maybe an online retailer. But I was wrong. I really liked the clean look of your gear.

Tell us about your journey in the world of men’s underwear. What made you start JockUp? Did you love men’s underwear before creating JockUp?

I’ve always loved underwear and starting my own brand was something I had been thinking about for a while. I would wear some brand and think this is good but I would change this and that. The day I came up with the name JockUp and created the logo was the when I decided to go for it and start my own brand. I ran a successful Kickstarter crowd funding campaign, dove into the manufacturing process and developed the line to what you see today. It really just comes down to making underwear and active gear that I want to wear – creating clean and confident lines that showcase the strength of the male form while being engineered for the active man.

You’re about page mentions you worked as an architect. How does this training come into and influence your designs?

I have a clean and modern aesthetic where, using the architectural mantra, form follows function. I like using design and materials that serve a purpose beyond just looking good.

I really like that your line has a very classic feel. I have said that everyone should own classic underwear. Why did you pick basic black and white with a blue waistband?

Black, white and gray tones are a classic that go with everything while never going out of style. Starting with this clean masculine color pallet was a good way to start the JockUp line. The vibrant blue of the elastic band broadcasts a confidence and strength that represents the JockUp brand.

We ran a post on the Wide Brand Jock, it seems that the “classic jocks” are a thing of the past. Why was it so important to put this in your collection?

The classic 3-inch band jockstrap was always a personal favorite and preferred way to keep my boys in place while being active. The thicker band adds stability that other underwear can’t compete with. Not having a classic-style jock would just be criminal. Other men obviously feel the way I do because it’s one of JockUp’s best sellers.

What has been the biggest influence in creating you in your collection?

I think JockUp is a culmination of a lot of things but the biggest influence is simply a personal experience of what works and what doesn’t. I don’t just draw up a design and say that looks pretty, I use and abuse my active gear to make sure they hold up and perform the way they have to in the real world.

Who should be wearing JockUp gear? Do you have a specific guy or type of guys?

JockUp is for the active man that appreciates clean masculine designs that showcase the strength of the male form. It’s all about performance-enhancing fit and finish delivering unapologetic confidence. If you like clean, confident details made with superior quality materials and construction techniques then JockUp is for you.

We are going WAY back in the UNB TBT. This is a pair of Olaf Benz that we profiled in 2009. Specifically the Prince Brazil Slip. We even reviewed this pair. Even back in 2009 bikinis were around. Granted, this was sold more in Europe than the US. This happened to be one of the first times we worked with Dead Good Undies! We still love them!  BTW, if you’re wanting this pair… you’re about 7 years too late! I’m sure they have something new that is a similar match.

I still have this pair in my collection and still love the fit and style. I need to find it. I haven’t worn it in a while!

4 Hunks puts their own unique spin on the singlet. This one is not made for working out or wrestling. Although you could wrestle in them but, it wouldn’t be Greco-Roman wrestling. They have 5 different singlets. They are the Catcher Lad B Free, Catcher Hunk, Catcher Lad, Catcher Stud and Catcher Hunk Bottomless. The first three are a mesh fabric and the last two are spandex.

Catcher Lad B Free

The Catcher Lad B free is a very unique design. It’s more of a cross between a harness and singlet. The black mesh fabric is trimmed with red piping. It leaves very little to the imagination. The front is completely open as is the back. The 4 Hunks description said all eyes will be on you. We couldn’t agree more. The Catcher Lad B Free retails for € 75.

Catcher Hunk

Maybe you’re not as bold as to wear the Catcher Lad B Free. The Catcher hunk has a bit more coverage. The front looks like a low cut singlet but the back is open. It has a cut out for the back. All their styles are super sexy. This singlet is made from the same mesh fabric, so it will show skin. But unlike the Lad B Free, the back is solid. The Catcher Hunk is available for € 70.

Catcher Lad

If love the Catcher Lad B Free but want more coverage in the back. Try the Catcher Lad. It is the same cut as that singlet but has a solid back. Which to me is one sexy singlet. The way they designed the back and harness front is just sexy as hell to me. It’s still the same mesh as the other two singlets, even though it has more coverage. The fabric will show off more skin! The Catcher Lad is available for € 70

Catcher Stud

Let’s say you don’t want to show off as much skin as the previous pairs. You want something not made of mesh. The Catcher Stud could be for you. It is a solid material so you could wear this to a bar night. It has the same design as the Catcher Hunk. The crisscross design gives it the harness look and like the hunk is backless. The Catcher Stud is available for €70

Catcher Hunk Bottomless

The last singlet in the bunch is the same design as the Catcher Stud but is backless. This is one where your assets will show to everyone! I love the eye that 4 Hunks has for their designs. These really impress me big time! You can bare as you bare in the singlets. The Catcher Hunk Bottomless is available for € 75.

I really love the gear that 4 Hunks makes. They are about bringing out the sexy side of a guy. So, where could you wear these? Well, that’s a good question. The obvious example is the bedroom! However, depending on the bar or party you could sport them out. But, be in company that won’t mind you showing off!

Thong Thursday – Andrew Christian Air Thong

90004_AIR THONG _11_It’s Thong Thursday! Today I wanted to showcase a thong for those who like the g-string side of the thong world. We have quite a few readers who love this style. Oddly enough, I rarely see g-strings from brands. Sure, we have all kinds of thongs but g-strings? Not so much. I don’t know if this is the seedier side of underwear. But, regardless we think all guys should wear what they love!

Andrew Christian  has released the Air Thong. You maybe saying “It looks just like a regular g-string.” Oh, not so fast my thong loving friend. This one features the fabric from the Air line. It’s very similar to a sports mesh and allows some breathability. It also makes it just a bit see through. Let’s face it, if you’re daring to bare as much as this pair shows off, the semi-mesh fabric wouldn’t be a deal breaker. I actually find it a bonus.

The Air Thong comes in three colors. Black, White, and Yellow. Each of the pairs has a black elastic with matching black trim around the pouch. I personally am a fan of the Yellow version. The white and black are classic in the world of underwear. I think you should always spice up your undies, especially a thong!

For you pouch guys the pouch of the Air Thong is anatomically designed. It will fit you pretty well. From the picture ,It looks like its well designed. I think many times the pouches on g-strings are an after thought. It can be one of those pairs that is meant to be on for an hour before the fun begins.

Jockstrap Wednesday Jock It Up – The Old School Jock Isn’t Dead!

The Old School JockWe posted last week about the demise of the classic jock. There is one company that is not going to let that happen. That company is JockUp. They make a very old school classic jock. We had to inquire about the jock!

So many of the old school brands, Bike and others, are doing away with the “classic style jocks” with wide waistbands. They are creating new “branded” waistbands over the classics. What made you design such an awesome classic jock?

The classic-styled jock is the epitome of form-follows-function that I love. It was never a question whether JockUp would have a classic jock of its own – it’s actually the first thing I designed when creating the brand. I remember my dad purchasing my first jock for sports and the feeling I had when wearing that 3-inch waistband with the label front and center, the feeling that I was now a man and could take on the world. From that moment I associated the classic-styled jock with masculinity.

How does your classic jock differ from the old school jocks?

While I kept the old-school look, it was important to address some of the issues that vintage-style jocks have with comfort and durability. I personally tested countless variations to figure out what design would provide the best support yet be comfortable and durable enough to wear for extended periods. The result is a jock that has a classic feel with modern features like moisture-wicking fabric and top quality elastic that maintains strength/form allowing you to go hard with confidence.

It’s just in classic white, did you think of making other colors or just keeping it white?

What has been the customer feedback to the jock?

Customers really love JockUp’s Classic Jock making it a best seller. Guys have told me that it’s the favorite jockstrap in their collection, which is awesome! I set out to make a jock that I wanted to wear and it seems to have resonated with men.
