SWM3255It’s hot now and the swimwear you should wear should be hot as well shouldn’t it? I think the main point of swimwear is to show as much off as you can legally get away with in public. Well, that’s just my opinion, and I know many of you share this opinion. I have see your pics on Twitter!

What makes swimwear hot to you? Is it the cut? The Color? The Fabric? To me it’s the cut and fabric. I love swimwear that conforms to my body and still accents all my curves. The color is the next important factor. Basic black is always good but when at a tropical location it’s important to really enjoy some color. Why be there and wear something navy/black. The last thing is how fast it dries. I remember the days of growing up and wearing those baggy swim trunks that took forever to dry. Now with modern fabric, it can dry in the matter of minutes.

Pistol Pete has released the Citrus Brief this summer. The pair is designed to accent what you have and make it look amazing. The main color is the pouch that wraps around back. If you look close the white parts in the design are a semi sheer mesh. Now you won’t be showing off all the goods, but you will be showing off. Below the mesh it has an accenting color. It’s available in Orange, Green and Blue.

The one thing I really love about this pair is the way the main color is cut. It accents your pouch and draws attention to it. This pair will command attention on the beach. Especially if you wear the orange. The mesh isn’t wide enough to make it seem obscene, it’s just enough to show some skin. If you’re looking for something bold but not too wild, I suggest you check out the Citrus Swim Brief.

This design is one also that so Pistol Pete. They create swimwear that is not like anyone else’s. The Citrus Brief sounds like it would pass all my tests! Now just to loose enough weight to fit in it! This pair retails for $49.50

dash-tr-navy-0.5I have to admit that I am more of a brief guy, I have been wearing ‘speedo’ swimwear since around the age of 14, so for over 35 years. So I was a little skeptical when I was asked to review a ‘square cut’ suit . The Double Dash Trunk by teamm8 is not a typical square cut suit. I have to admit, it is a very comfortable square cut suit. I have tried other brand name square cut suits but have never felt this comfortable in a square cut trunk. I was fortunate to have the navy trunk with white waistband and orange drawstring, great color combination.

When I first pulled the suit on I was amazed at the feel of the material made of 80% nylon and 20% elastane. The features a small functional pocket with a sleek zipper on the right hip. The pocket is almost undetectable except for the orange zipper pull peaking out from under the concealing navy flap. On the left hip is a tastefully heat embossed teamm8 logo in orange and white. The drawstring is a smart contrasting orange against the white waistband made out of a sturdy nylon and plastic bullet ends on the end to prevent fraying. The suit is lined in the front with a single panel of coolmax lining and does not bunch as in other suits like this I have worn. The back of the suit has a center seam to give the suit an improved fit and comfort, it basically sculpts the rear, not flattens the it.

I have worn the suit to the beach and the community pool and have received several positive comments about the suit, wife approves too. I have to say for a ‘speedo’ guy I am beginning to like the teamm8 Double Dash trunk. It offers more coverage than the traditional brief / bikini when more coverage is required. The suit dries quickly and works well under a pair of regular shorts , just incase an impromptu occasion calls for a swim. For the more modest that want to wear a more form fitting suit and not give up style I would highly recommend the Double Dash trunk by teamm8.

This suit has impressed me when it comes to square cut swim trunks. I will definately recommend these anyone that asks about square cut swim trunks. Great to wear under scuba suits to prevent bunching and chafing from baggy board shorts and traditional loose fitting swim trunks.

When considering a teamm8 suit the sizing is a follows and is true to size: xsmall 2830, Small 3032, medium 3234, large 3436, xlarge 3638 and xxlarge is 3840. Free standard shipping in the Australia. Standard overseas orders over $50 are shipped free! Only $10 shipping on overseas orders under 50. Express shipping is offered too, $10 in Australia and $25 overseas. The price for this awesome suit is $74 AUD which is appoxametly $70 USD, and can be found online at www.teamm8.com

Pros:

  • Comfortable alone or under other clothing. Does not ‘ride’ up like other square cut. Material is very soft and durable.
  • Styling is subtle and tasteful.
  • Variety of colors offered.
  • Lining is comfortable and does not bunch.

Cons:

  • Waistband will tend to ‘roll’

MACKEENE SwimwearI love bringing you guys brands you may not have heard of before. This week I was emailed by the PR firm who represents MACKEENE that they are launching in the US. You may be ask, “Ok, who are they?” Well here is more info about the company:

“The eight-year old company, founded by French brothers, Rodolphe and Harold Mackeene, features high-end swimshorts and polos that are designed for exceptional freedom of movement, as well as ultimate performance. MACKEENE’s mission is to combine innovation, luxury and comfort; all inspired by an active and definitively chic St. Bart’s lifestyle to a global audience.

Upon meeting Rodolphe, a professional kite surfer and purveyor of wanderlust, and his brother Harold, an artist and graphic designer in Paris, one is instantly transported to their life of high-design performance and stylish integrity. The St. Bart’s born brothers joined their uniquely different passions to create a cohesive line of luxury swimshorts that fuses technology with function, and with three distinctive cuts for all varieties of the sophisticated and stylish, modern man. Leading the industry with their patented magnetic closure created for extreme sports, and combined with quality materials, craftsmanship and world-renowned French style, MACKEENE is the definition of form, function and fashion. The brand is currently sold at high-end swim and resort boutiques in France, as well as throughout Europe, Japan and the Caribbean.  Newly launched in the USA, the brand is exclusively available at www.MACKEENE.us. “

So I went over to the newly launched US site and gave it a look. I will say if you’re a swim short fan, this site is for you. They have some really great colors and patterns. The styles are not very skimpy or too long. Its very stylish with what guys are wearing. Another thing you need to know is they are not on the low end on price. They are over $100 a pair. Which to some, that’s not a big deal. We have readers who will not balk at the price and order a few.

I think they may do well in the US with the the style and colors. They are very main stream. I’m not saying that in a bad way, but rather men’s swimwear wearers are becoming more fashion conscious. The guys are wanting to look good on the beach not just buy something off a rack at a department store!

If you want something really fashionable, fun and few people will have it go to MACKEENE’s new US website and give them a look.

Sailboat on the Great Barrier Reef

Last time we profiled the Calypso swim brief, they have another pair that is in the same color palate but a different style. That style is the Lagoon, hence the title! aussieBum has always been up for creating  different and super fun swimwear.  The Calypso is definitely different, I know some out there may not like it but many more will be all for it!

Here is what aussieBum told us about the range:

“The ultimate in sexy, chic and pioneering swimwear. ‘Lagoon’ is made from recycled nylon, a super light and comfortable fabric that acts as a second skin. Designed with a complimentary, statement side tie detail that re-establishes aussieBum as the industry leader for stylish, boundary-pushing product and innovative design. Available in four different summer inspired colour ways with spliced panelling detail.”

The color scheme is very topical and fun. It’s not bright but more pastel colors. The side tie reminds me of a sarong tie that you see on the beach. It makes me wonder if that is the inspiration for the suit. Another thing I like about this suit is the back mirrors the front pattern. Often you have a pattern that is just on the front or back, not both.  I find this pair very creative.

There are five different color combinations. All but one has a a blue in it. The one that doesn’t has orange, yellow pink. That pair reminds me of a sun rise/set. The colors are one thing that really draws me to this pair. Super fun and creative. On that I say good job aussieBum.

If you are interested in this pair you can find it for $40.85 at the aussieBum site.

LFHR_SWMaB14004_RedWhen you get a new pair of swimwear you want it to be fun and colorful. You want swimwear that looks great on you, is super comfy and my personal favorite is colorful as well! aussieBum has been one of the brands that has been making some really fun and different swimwear this year.

The newest swimwear is the Calypso. This line features a thick waistband with a  small lace up front. Each one of the pairs has three different color blocks. The colors of the collection are Azure, Green, Navy and Red. The picture above is the Red. Also, on the back is the aussieBum name across the Bum

This pair will get you some attention on the beach. One of my favorite swim briefs was a color block. So, this pair brings back some good memories of the beach and a summer just relaxing. Would I wear this pair, in a heartbeat! I really love the design and color block. This pair retails for $42.80 on the aussieBum site.

We have heard from many of you that you guys are taking out Swim Brief Challenge. We thought we’d share another great pair to wear. The Cabo Brief from Pistol Pete is something a bit different. It has a bit of a retro vibe with the belt and plaid print.

Pistol Pete is no stranger to plaids in swimwear. I think it’s one of their signature fabrics that they have had over the years. This pair comes in a blue and pink plaid. I really like them both but LOVE the pink plaid (above). It is a plaid fabric that isn’t feminine but has a masculine feel to me. Granted, not everyone is going to get that vibe but I think it’s just really a great pair.

The Belt is another signature of Pistol Pete. The one thing about them is they always march to their own drummer. They have a unique style that you don’t see on the market today. So this gives them a solid core of brand loyal customers. If you are interested in the Cabo Brief you can get it for $48.50 at the Pistol Pete Website.

surf-white-0

I know many of you out there either don’t feel comfy or don’t have a beach/pool where you can wear a swim brief this summer. So you won’t be participating in our Swim Brief challenge. That doesn’t mean you can’t get some really fun swimwear for this summer.

The pair I got to review is the the Teamm8 Surf Swim Short. I really love the fun pattern of this pair. So when I got to pick a few pairs of swim, this was top of my list. The print really caught my eye and I had to have it! As you can see the Surf Swim Short is a traditional swim trunk. Well, it is for us in the US. These are the kinds of suits I grew up on wearing. So they give me a retro feel.

It has a retro look but made with new fabrics and design. The old shorts I wore never had pockets. So this is a new addition to the style. I personally like a swim suit with pockets. It’s not that i want to load my pockets down in the water or hanging out. But, inevitably you will need to go somewhere and its great to have a place to put your ID and money when you go, instead of holding it in your hand.

Next is the print. I said above that I love it. The reasons I love the print is because it’s very beachy, colorful and not over the top. First, the print reminds me of the beach because of the palm leaves and floral print is what you should wear at the beach. Next are the colors, its very Miami South Beach to me with the more muted/pastel colors. They work well together. Lastly is its not over the top. How many times have you seen prints and went, who’s curtains did they use? Well this one is fun and you’ll get noticed for the right reasons.

I wore these to a pool where it’s encouraged to wear swim briefs. Note that I did bring a swim brief as well but kept them in my bag. I wanted to see how well these did by themselves. Often I wear a swim brief under other swimwear because I like the extra support under other lined suits. The one smart thing Teamm8 did was have the lining and fly meet up. Meaning when you udo the fly you don’t have to worry about the lining. it’s sewn into the sides of the fly rather. I thought this was super smart.

I will say for trunks these were pretty good trunks. I prefer a more square cut or swim brief as my main pair. I will definitely wear these again. They felt great just relaxing by the pool and in the water. Reviews for swim are always hard for me because I never put swimwear through it’s paces. I”m more of a relax and hang out rather than play volleyball or be active. So for me these did the trick and I got a few compliments and informed a few guys about Teamm8!

Pros:

  • Loved the print
  • The lining doesn’t get in the way
  • Was very comfy

Cons

  • Some guys may not like the lining
  • Pockets, again some may not like pockets in swim

Ratings:

  • Daily Fit – 9
  • Sizing – 9
  • Construction – 9
  • Styling – 10
  • Performance – 9
  • Overall – 9.2

IS_SWMaB14005_navy_140613145259We know not all of you are going to take our Swim Brief Challenge, due to numerous factors. So we want to profile other great pairs of swimwear for you to consider this year! The newest from aussieBum is the A-Game.

The A-Game is a square cut/trunk style swimwear. As aussieBum says “A-Game is sports relevant swimwear in the classic team colours, collegiate inspired with internal drawstrings. A-Game has a full lining for comfort and a thin, modern waistband.”

The two colors available are Yellow and Red. This is not the full body color. Each pair has a main blue body with the color accents on the waistband and sticking. The sides are on both are white with an A5 on the side. You maybe asking, “the waistband is so small, is there a draw string?” Yes there is, some of our readers love them and others don’t, but this one comes complete with one.

You can find these at the aussieBum site for $42.oo. There are very few places in the states to get aB but you should note they do have free shipping worldwide. So don’t let that keep you form shopping.
