Why I wear Swim Briefs

Before I get into the reasons why I love to wear swim briefs, let me preface this by saying, I’m not a model or look like most guys we feature on the blog. I dare to say a lot of you are “average” or “beefy’ like me. But, we all have the mentality that only super fit, model guys can wear them. NOT TRUE!

I have been wearing swim briefs since I was 18. This means I have a long history with them. At that time, I was tall and thin — my how times change as you get older. But I still wear swim briefs, and I wear them for many reasons.

They fit great

I love the fit of a swim brief. Board shorts and swim shorts, for the most part, have too much fabric. When I wear swim briefs, they are just comfortable to me. It almost feels like I’m wearing nothing at all.

Even if I’m at a place where I have to wear swim shorts, I ALWAYS wear a swim brief under them. I love the support they give me. I don’t see how guys can wear swim shorts with nothing under them (that mesh liner drives me nuts) or regular underwear.

Fast Drying

One of my pet peeves is sitting in wet clothes. I hate it more than anything. Swim briefs were the first clothing item that I went swimming, and when I got out of the pool, they dried almost instantly. There have been times where I spent the entire day in a swim brief. In and out of the water, hanging out, and it never once made me want to change into something else.

They are sexy

I think they are sexy as hell. Not just on models but all guys. It’s not just showing off what you have, which you can do in a swim brief. It’s more the confidence to wear it and wear it proud. When I was younger, I have been in situations where I was the only person in a swim brief on the beach. It never bothered me. I’m sure comments were made, but no one ever made them to me.

Hunk2 – Meet the boy from Oregon who’s making it big in LA

Born and bred in Oregon, dancer Michael Stumpfip has been toying with life in Los Angeles for the past three years.

“I’ve been going back home every summer…” explains Michael. “But I recently leased my first apartment in North Hollywood, so I’m here for the foreseeable future.”

It seems as if life in LA is suiting Michael. We caught up with him while he was in San Diego, stripping down for the camera of Armando Adajar. 

We were keen to see what Michael looked like in the bright and bold colors of our Hunk2 swimwear, so we took the opportunity to ask him a few questions.

A passion for dance

“Originally, I was a gymnast…” says Michael. “In high school, I was cast in a few musicals. That led me to more dancing training, including ballet.”

“I was a late starter in terms of ballet, but luckily I’d established some foundation and body awareness from the gymnastics.”

“I’m also into Yoga…” adds Michael. “Yoga was an extension of the dance training. I mostly did it for a good workout and flexibility training. However, after a while, it also became more of a meditative experience for me. It’s very good for the mind!”

Building the body

“I really do love my body and the progress I’ve made…” confirms Michael, when we compliment him on the transformation that he’s documenting on his Instagram. “It wasn’t until recently I decided to stop focusing on Size, Size, Size, and began to train the best way my body was able to.”

“I still train 5-6 days a week – which could be anything from dance, gymnastics, yoga, or weights – but now, I focus much more on how I feel and not necessarily how I look.”

Finding a home

“LA is feeling more like home everyday…” says Michael. “Life is amazing here. There’s something about being surrounded by individuals who share so much in common with you.”

“Contrary to popular belief, people in the performance industry are some of the most caring, loving, accepting, and friendly individuals I’ve known. We all realize that we’re in this crazy fight together and that we need all the support we can get.”

Hitting the beach

“I really enjoyed wearing the Hunk2 swimsuits!” exclaimed Michael, when we asked him which style of swim-wear he preferred.

“Square cut trunks used to be my favorite style of swimsuit, but as I’ve become more confident with my body, I’m all about the briefs.” 

“I hope this photo-shoot helps people to feel inspired to work hard…” adds Michale. “I hope it also inspires them to get their butts into a pair of Hunk2 swim-briefs next time they go swimming!”

These are a lot of pouches and a lot of information. But it’s to show you that Ergowear takes designing underwear seriously. I have been wearing them for over 10 years and love their fit. So here is the break down of the pouches in my real language.

Max – is a traditional pouch for me. It’s designed to give you plenty of support. I believe it’s their first pouch they created. It does give you a bit of an enhanced look under clothes, so consider that. Perfect for sports and working out. The Max Mesh boxer briefs are the best boxer briefs I own.

X3D – is genuinely an engineering marvel in men’s underwear. It’s specifically designed to fit a guy naturally. It’s not as enhancing as the Max but will lift things somewhat. It feels fantastic when I wear these. This is my favorite pouch! These are my everyday pairs that I wear to work and around. It is also the first pouch I ever tried.

Feel – This is my least favorite of the pouches. And it’s purely a personal preference. The Feel pouch is for a guy who wants to hang naturally. It has more room than other pouches and gives you a bit more freedom. I want a little more keep things in place. If this is what you like, you will love this line!

X4D – I have yet to get a pair, but feedback is they are amazing. It’s the next breakthrough in the world of underwear! Well, ok we’re not solving world problems, but we can be comfortable while we do it. I plan to do a review very soon of these and give my honest opinion. But I have a feeling i will love them.

Is it a fetish or a passion of Underwear?

Growing up and in my 20’s, I proclaimed I had an underwear fetish. It was more like a badge of honor than of shame to me. I love underwear that felt great showed off what I had, and was different from everyone else.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately on the direction of UNB and some other things, and I realize that I no longer say I have an underwear fetish. I usually say I have a passion for underwear. What has changed in my life? I still love undies that fit and feel great. I don’t mind the occasional showing off. And which of us don’t mind having something different than everyone else?

Dictionary.com defines a fetish as ” any object or nongenital part of the body that causes a habitual erotic response or fixation.” To me, you need the item, in this case, underwear, to have a gratifying sexual experience. Underwear is nice but not a necessary part of it. However, I will make over someone’s underwear if they aren’t up to par (Just kidding, well kind of, but I suggest new additions).

In my teens/twenties, I had a sexual component to the entire underwear thing. I loved wearing and seeing others in their sexy undies. And there is nothing wrong with incorporating sex and underwear; it can be quite fun! I know from experience!

Flash forward to the start of UNB. At this time, I was starting to look at underwear for its quality, fit, and function. Yeah, I will admit I still like the sexiness factor, but I no longer buy a pair because it looks hot. I have the inner voice come in and say, “You won’t fit in that pouch.” Or “OMG, that’s going to be so uncomfortable after an hour.” Lastly, my all-time favorite, “That pair is designed to be taken off.”

Society has also changed; we no longer have to order of “adult” catalogs to get thongs and other sexy undies. They are available at most underwear stores online and quite a few brick and mortar stores. Next, underwear isn’t gay or straight. We have a ton of straight readers, and they love undies as much as the gay guys and sometimes more. In fact, more straight guys hit me up when thongs started to get big. It was amazing to see. Lastly, we are talking underwear on the blog and social media. We are sharing our loves and hates regarding underwear.

I’ll leave you with this closing thought. Some of you may remember Salvatore on here. He has left the blog, but we are still friends. He’s my straight brother from another mother. We have conversations about underwear the way other guys talk about baseball or football. If you had said me and a straight guy would become friends over underwear and then have amazing conversations, I would have told you were crazy. But this is the world we live in now. I see it keep getting better and better.

BTW if you do have a fetish for undies, I say have fun and enjoy, cause there isn’t anything wrong with it! On the scale of fetishes, undies are pretty tame!
