Some of you maybe familiar with DT Clothes and their underwear, but if you’re not here is an interview we did with them. We hope you get to know this brand a little better!

You have some really great mens underwear, how did you get into designing underwear? Did the clothing line come first or the Underwear?

I started designing underwear in 2003 when I noticed there wasn’t much variety (colours + prints) available on the market. I01_0013 started selling a basic y-front style in 5 colours and the brand has grown from there. I have spent the past 5 years selling underwear but have branched out into more clothing over the past year. This year we are expanding the DT Denim range and also adding more cool clothing lines to our collections.

You have a really great and colorful line, you have really great prints and bright colors to more traditional. where does your inspiration come from?

I love anything retro, and I am inspired a lot by 60s, 70’s, and 80’s pop culture. I try to create something different by twisting that which already exists. I think this philosophy maintains the DT brands originality but the customer can also identify with the classic/timeless elements of my designs.

Colors and patterns are coming back to the world on mens underwear, do you see any other trends we may expect in the next year?

01_0056Many underwear labels are now doing crazy colours and prints so I think the next phase will be the use of different fabrics and cuts. I have some really unique designs being released in the coming months and as the competition is getting stronger all the time I always have to be thinking well ahead of current trends.

Is there any pair that you have created that really surprised you by selling more then you expected?

I don’t want to sound arrogant but I don’t release anything I don’t think will sell. All of my designs have sold well but of course there are some designs that sell better than others. The 8-Ball brief has been a top seller for 4 years. Personally I find it quite boring compared to some of the other prints but I think that’s probably because it has been around the longest. I get over them very quickly but never have a shortage of fresh ideas ready to move forward with.

What are some of your current best sellers?

Our current top selling prints are:
1 – Ken Evil
2 – Aloha Massacre
3 – 8-Ball
4 – Triangles Yellow
5 – Rubble03_0065

We haven’t seen you in many stores (retail and online) are we going to see a larger presence in the US? We know you are currently carried by and Fresh Pair.

I don’t do much advertising and marketing so I guess that’s why you don’t see DT everywhere. I think a lot of stores only take on popular mass market brands. We have a small loyal customer base which I am happy with as I prefer to work with stockists that support us for the long term and help us develop better quality products. I really don’t want the DT brand to become a mass market trash brand and I have become more selective with the stockists that carry DT.

What are some of your plans for the future? Any new styles or colors you plan to add?

I release a few new designs every month and have a heap of new designs on the drawing board ready to go. We are constantly expanding the DT Clothes line and will continue to do so indefinitely. For me it’s about being creative, it’s what I do and it’s what I love. I don’t ever want to stop being creative.
