When we talk about models, lately, it’s a tricky subject. Some guys want to see the traditional models, and then some guys want to see real guys in undies. And there is room for everyone in the world of underwear. Having worked on the blog for 12 years, I can see the issue from brands and consumers. This is my take on models in the Underwear industry.
Traditional Models
Brands use traditional models in their posts because they have a brand image they want to convey. It could be athletic, muscular, more realistic, or even plus-sized guys (saying plus in the world of modeling). Granted, very few of us reading this will ever be like the model in the underwear picture. We want to feel sexy and confident in our underwear. If it looks that great on him than it will look awesome on me. And to be fair, pictures do sell underwear. A hot picture will increase the sales of a pair over a pair without a hot pic. I have seen this time and time again. Brands are in the business to make money, and they do what will sell undies.
Real Guys – Non-Traditional Models.
I like many of you want to see more real guys in undies. This includes all shapes, sizes, and colors. I will give it to many brands starting to do more real guys, and those should be applauded, like Yocisco. They recently had a beefy guy star in some of their pics. I think many brands are hesitant because of backlash from people online. Before you start going off on me, just wait. We have experienced this first hand. When we first started doing our UNB shoots, we used more real guys. Not all of them had abs; some were thin, some were a little bigger (for models). I was super proud of these shoots. However, when we posted them on social media, get got comments like “These aren’t models,” “Where did you find these guys” “If this is what you consider models, I’m unfollowing.”
Yes, guys said those things and more over the years. It sucks when we invest our time and money into a shoot to get this feedback. If you want to see real guys, like, comment, share, and buy. When you do buy, tell them you bought because of the real guy or non-traditional models.
I personally think we need a mix of real and traditional models. We are a diverse group of guys, gay, straight and bi, looking for different things in undies. As the industry grows more into the straight market, we will see marketing evolve even more. This is a quick post I threw together, and I would love you guys to share your feedback.

We did a shoot featuring Clever back in 2015. This was done on near Downtown Atlanta. It was a lot of fun to do with Model Damien who we worked with a few times after this shoot.

Today we bring you a look back at August 2016. This features the new swimwear from Marcuse at the time! Makes me wish I had a trip to the beach.

If you are like me, a bigger guy, you miss out on a lot of pairs of underwear out there. The sizing doesn’t go above 40, or 36 inches sometimes. BUT, your wait is over. One brand that is branching out beyond the smaller sizes is Xtremen.
Xtremen has been around for a few years. They got started by making boxer briefs and have added briefs, thongs, and jocks to their line up. But, their sizing was on the smaller end. No more, they now go up to XXX-Large. The 3X goes up to 42-44, while not inclusive to guys on the larger end, it’s a step in the right direction.
One thing I think many brands forget to take into effect is taller guys. I am tall and beefy. And even with losing weight, I think I look best at a 36ish waist size. When I was a 32 I was too thin. It’s great to see this and we have a few more brands following suit and we will see more brands create extended sizes! For that we say Hurrah!
You can find the new Xtremen Xtended sizes at the UNB Store Now!

Who needs a weekend at the beach? This year hasn’t been the best for fun in the sun. However, Smither’s Swimwear has some great pairs for fun in the sun at home or anywhere you are! Check out their amazing swim briefs.

Tim’s Recommendation:
If you want to get a great pair of underwear for any size guy, Butch is your brand. It’s well made, fits great, and made for guys of all sizes. There should be no sizing issues, either. I felt great wearing these all day.

Butch is a new brand that I ran across on Instagram. They are a brand that makes undies for all sizes but markets to the bigger guys. Being a guy with a 42 waist currently, this is great! They sent me a few pairs to try, and I was super excited.
I gave these a real review and wore them on a trip to the botanical gardens for the day. In the age of COVID, I needed to get out and out of the house. Nothing was better than social distancing in nature. Which, I didn’t see many people out there. It was HOT out there, and I did a lot of walking, which I discovered how out of shape the COIVD pandemic has made me. That being said, the pair were excellent and fit so well. There was no riding up; it breathed and gave me such great support.
These briefs are well made. The fit and the feel, you can tell it was designed for a bigger guy. A lot of times, brands create the medium and resize from there. This pair seems it was designed just for me. One thing that amazed me is the waistband. It’s not a waistband design, but the construction. The band never dug into me and fit like a pair of underwear should fit. It wasn’t too tight. Some brands the waistband is too tight for the pair. You can tell the guys at Butch thought about their design for all guys and put their love of undies into this pair.
Sizing is always an issue when you are a bigger guy. Not with Butch, they have sizing from Small to XXX-Large. I got an XL, and it fit perfectly! They are based out of Australia and have pretty standard sizing. If you are on the larger side, check out the size guide for the right size. I don’t think you will go wrong by following their guide.
This pair was a classic design but really well made. The sizing and fabric are great. This pair is designed for bigger guys to feel amazing and sexy while wearing. I really loved wearing this pair and plan on wearing them in my regular rotation. They are awesome!

What we love most is the leather jocks are made with Keoto leather. This leather is remarkable in that it’s as soft as lamb’s leather but it’s cow hide so it’s super strong. The inside of the leather feels like a very soft suede – your boys are going to love being in these jocks. Besides leather, some are made with a unique leatherette PVC, slick rubber-like polyurethane and a variety of mesh fabrics that go from subtly see-through to fully see-through.
Along with the jockstraps there are also three solid and mesh strapless jocks (Raw Studio calls them “socks”) – they’re simple yet ingenious consisting of a waistband and suspended pouch and nothing else. Think jockstrap without the leg straps. With a super contoured pouch and a short cut elastic, together they form a cup with a small opening to cradle your boys to perfection, the elastic sits high behind the balls. The best part is because there’s no straps pulling the pouch down, you’re able to hang naturally and free with an awesome bulge

One thing that N2N Bodywear does that is amazing is to find prints. The newest print in their line up is the Broadway Print. I chose the bikini to showcase but it comes in the bikini, brief, trunk, jock, and thong. Check out this new line before it’s gone.

Box Menswear provided the Total Comfort Lounge Leggings for review. All opinions are that of the reviewer and are not influenced by Box Menswear.
Rating: 9.4/10 (Average of the ratings below
Pros: Comfort, Fabric Performance
Cons: Limited color options, Need to be worn under something in public
During the last few years, I’ve really gotten into leggings. My collection of them may not be growing as quickly as my underwear collection, but slowly I continue to add more to my collection. Therefore, I was obviously excited to have the opportunity to try the Total Comfort Lounge Leggings from Box Menswear.
I appreciate the straightforward name of these leggings, and found they really live up to their name. They are totally comfortable and they are prefect for lounging around.
The bamboo fabric of these leggings make them not only comfortable, but functional as well. The fabric absorbs moisture so it will wick away the sweat in the summer and help keep your body warm in the winter. The perfect fabric for year-round use. These certainly could be used for workouts or running, due to the fabric and the cuffs around the ankles to keep them in place. However, the white fabric is pretty translucent and will show anything you have on (or don’t have on) underneath. Because of that, you will likely need to throw some shorts over these if you plan to wear them out of the house. I’m not a fan of the shorts over leggings look, so I’ll stick to lounging around the house in these.
For sizing, I usually order Medium when it comes to leggings, and found that was the best choice for these. Just as a frame of reference, I found I should size down one size in Box Menswear underwear, but I think when it comes to their leggings, you’re best to stick to your usual sizing.
I am really glad that I had the opportunity to give these leggings a try. I can tell that I will get a lot of use out of them. The comfort level is fantastic an I really love the bamboo fabric. I hope Box Menswear expands some of the color options. I think some darker colors might make these more functional outside of the home, without having to throw shorts over.

Box Menswear furnished the Men’s Red Jockstrap for review. All opinions are that of the reviewer
Rating: 8/10 (Average of the ratings below)
Pros: Construction, Sizing
Cons: Style, Pouch, Price
Box Menswear is a brand I’ve seen a lot of on social media, yet I had not yet tried. I was excited when I received a couple of jocks to try. While I would recommend both, this particular one comes with a more limited recommendation. Read on to understand what I mean.
Let’s start with the good…this jock held up well for a workout. It checked off the boxes for me for being comfortable and keeping everything in place. That said, where it lacks for me is in design. It’s a very simple and basic design, which isn’t my taste. There just isn’t anything, desig- wise, in this jock that really stands out among a sea of jock brands. That makes me feel the price point is a little high for such a basic design.
As far as construction goes, this is a solidly constructed jock, sure to stand up to lots of workouts over time. The straps around the butt were pretty comfortable (which isn’t always the case with jocks). The area where I encountered some issues was with the pouch. While everything fit, I felt as if my equipment was being flattened. This would be a jock I’d wear to the gym, but not one I’d wear in the bedroom if I were trying to make an impression with my package. That said, the cotton fabric of the pouch itself is comfortable, so it really depends on what activities you plan for this jock.
Now let’s take a minute to discuss sizing. I always recommend that guys pay attention to size charts as they can vary from brand to brand. This is certainly the case for Box Menswear. I usually wear a size medium and likely would have ordered that had I not paid attention to the size chart. Turns out that I actually needed to order down a size too small! So if you’re someone who feels a little self-conscious about your weight, Box Menswear might make you feel just a little bit better!
Overall, this jock is okay. It doesn’t really excite me, but it’s solid for a workout. I think this jock would appeal more to a guy looking for function over fashion. It holds up well for a workout and is comfortable, so give it a try if the style catches your eye.
