cocksox-cx01In an effort for you guys to get to know us I am starting a segment called my favorite pair. As many of you know who are underwear fans, you don’t have just one favorite pair. We have the classics we love and keep for ever. Also, we constantly get new favorites when brands release new lines and we discover new brands.

This one is a classic for me. It’s funny that you say “classic” in underwear.  The underwear renaissance began in the early 2000’s, this is when more guys started to pay attention to what they were wearing. During this time we saw a ton of companies come on the market. Cocksox was one of those. I remember seeing the pics of the CX01 Briefs, and wanted them!

The pictures were super sexy to me. Here after many years of black/white/grey boxer briefs we had a pair of bright red bikinis. To me the underwear market was opening up big time. It wasn’t for two more years before I received my first pair. They were a white pair and when I tried them on they felt amazing. That amazing pair I still have today although they are a bit large now. They were an XL, so I can’t wear them. I have since replaced them with the turquoise, magenta, and leopard bikinis.

The reason the CX01 is one of my favorite pairs is that is has an ergonomically design, great materials and makes me feel sexy wearing every time. The pouch was the first thing that hooked me. When I slid it on it was amazing the way it held everything in place. It is designed to hold a guy and fit like a glove. The second thing was its very well constructed. I have had pairs of Cocksox for several years and they still hold up. Nothing worse then buying a great pair of undies an only getting 3-4 wearings before it’s done. Cocksox has longevity in my underwear drawer. Lastly, is I feel so sexy wearing these. Especially the leopard ones. It shows off what I have under jeans and give me a little more confidence. I think that is the power of great underwear.

This is my favorite pair. We will bring you more favorites soon. This will include swim and underwear.

Jumping JohnI know many of you know about Mack Weldon. They have been around for about a year. But for those of you who don’t know about there brand:

“There simply had to be a better way. The experience of buying underwear – from the pilgrimage to the department store, to the endless sea of ever-changing product – had to be fixed.  A tattered mess of underwear and socks, and an ambitious goal to change the status quo, is why we created this brand.

Mack Weldon is about the fusion between old-school quality and modern day technology. During our brand creation, we discovered Weldon, an early 20th century undergarment and sleepwear company that stood for innovation in both marketing and product design – very similar to the brand we were creating. We embraced the name, flipped it a bit and made it ours.”

One thing I really like about their site is they have videos on the Underwear page. You see the guy wearing the underwear. This is the first time I remember seeing this. This isn’t a YouTube video, more of a flash video that starts playing as soon as the page loads. This is really cool. They also do this on the Undershirt page.

But they don’t sell just underwear. They have a really fun sock line. Socks have been taking off big time lately. Mack Weldon has really fun bright striped and polka dotted socks.

You may remember they were written up in the New York Times for the “Changes in the Underwear Market” article. They share the same philosophy we do here at UNB, show real guys in underwear. They use less abs and more real guys. I love to support a company that is trying to change the market for the masses.

Go check out the Mack Weldon current offerings. They are classic styled so if you’re looking for something wild, this is not the company for you. But if you would like that then they currently offer: Boxer Briefs, Boxers, Trunk, Brief, Undershirts, T-shirts and socks.

555794_602004823170517_1962027928_nI made a result ion to bring you guys new undies and thats just what I”m doing. I was looking through Tumblr and saw a guy wearing “Paul Ferrer” and it was a brand I wasn’t familiar with. So, I Googled them and found they have a cool and fun line.

Paul Ferrer is a line based out of Columbia. Their website is in Spanish so I’m relying on Google Translate for translating so somethings, which does not translate correctly. The really bad translation says they strive to be a company that designers underwear for the traditional and modern man. Which I think it means they have great undies that are traditional (with the basic line) and those the modern guy will love (trendy line).

I think its awesome for a company to has a conservative side yet show personality in wilder colors and designs. If a brand is your webversion 25favorite you can have more conservative pairs when needed and have more colorful and fun when it calls for as well. So you get the same fit in different situations.

The basic line has very basic colors. Those colors are the standard black and white. Where they bring in color is with the waistbands. The colors range from black and white to red and purple. Each pair in the Basic range has classic brief cut.

The Trendy is a little bolder in colors. There is not a white or black pair in the bunch. It has solid colors and really fun stripes. My favorite is the Azul Oscuro Sesgo Amarillo Elastico Rojo. It’s blue body with a red waistband and yellow trim. It’s a low of fun and reminds me of a pair I had many years ago. So I may have to get one to relive a favorite pair. I’ts great to see a company mix colors and trims.

Another one of my favorites is the Brief Azul Claro Sesgo y Elastico Ultraviolet. which is a light blue brief with a purple waistband and trim. There is something about the light color and darker trim that just looks amazing to me. webversion 26

One thing that is really interesting to me is that the briefs and boxer briefs are totally different. You won’t see too many of the same color or pattern in each style. It makes them a little unique. So if your’e looking for matching pairs this isn’t the brand for you.

They have swimwear as well but we’ll just talk about the undies today. But we will write it up soon. But if you want to see the swim check it out on the Paul Ferrer site.

You can find them at the Paul Ferrer Site or Paul Ferrer Facebook Page but know both are in Spanish. So you will either have to translate them or be able to speak Spanish. I haven’t seen them at any US store or online so if you’re interested you will need to purchase from their columbian site!

why-we-love-underwearI’m sitting here planning the future of UNB. I know it seems sometime we just fly by the seat of our pants, but I’m actually looking at the future and where I want us to be as a blog. It got me thinking why do we love underwear?

For most of the guys in the world underwear is something you wear because your mother told you to wear clean underwear in case of an accident. Those who read this blog have many other reasons. We all, regardless of sexual orientation, have fallen in love with undies.

Here are some reasons I came up with why we all love underwear –

  • Personality – Its a continued statement as who we are as a man. Sure the world sees our clothes daily but we want to show more personality with our underwear. Some guys have to wear a uniform, whether its a mechanic in coveralls or busines executive in a suit. You may not have much say on what you wear to work. Underwear gives you a chance to wear something bright in color, skimpy in design, luxrious fabrics or all the above.
  • Fashion – I have talked to guys who fell in love with undies because its a continuation of their fashion sense. They wear the best shirts and pants and would never think of wearing nothing but the best underwear. Plus with the low rise jeans trent having a great pair showing over the waistband was a fashion statement.
  • Comfort – Underwear in six packs never give you much comfort, they loose their shape and drive you crazy after about 4 hours. Great undewear gives you amazing support and makes you feel amazing. I know not everyone is a fan of briefs, but they are what I love best. Once guys find what fit he loves most, its rare he will change his daily go to pair.
  • Sex appeal – This can come in two forms. The first is you had a partner who bought you something sexy and one trying it, you loved it. I have talked to so many straight guys who got into underwear this way. Their wife/girl friend got tired of the ugly boxers/briefs and bought something. Reluctantly they tried them and then fell in love with the fit. Not to knock the straight guys but I have done this to many guys I have dated too, but it reminds me of a lot of guys I have talked too recently. The second is one thing I experinced. Seeing underwear and wanting to feel that sexy wearing them. WHen I was younger I saw bikinis and thought they were sexy and wanted a pair. When I got a pair I feel i love. It’s the old addage that you want to look as good as the model in the picture.
  • Dare – This is another way I heard guys found undies. In college or something a buddy/friend dared them to wear something such as a bikini, brief, etc. They accepted the dare and discovered that what they were dared to wear, they actually like. Thongs are the most loved pair in this category. One reader told me his college buds dared him to wear a thong to a party one night. He accepted the dare got one and wore it to the party. While wearing it he realized how great they were and went out that week and bought more. Now, he did keep them from his buddy but it changed his mind about undies. I don’t think this happens too much but it does happen
  • When in Rome – This one our very on Gabe discovered. It deals more with swim briefs than underwear. He went on vaction and most of the European visitors wore swim briefs and kinda gave him the look most who wear swim brief in the US get while wearing them on a public beach. He ventured out and bought a pair and wore them the rest of the trip. There were no judgements or sneers. It was generally accepted with the people on the beach. This then turned into his love of underwear.

These are some reasons why we love undies. We would love to hear your story on how you fell in love with undies, what were the reasons that got you to buy/get that first pair? What was your first pair?  Feel free to email us or post here in the comments. Our Email is info@underwearnewsbriefs.com

Baskit UnderwearIf you’ve been a fan of the blog for the last few years, you know we used to do a podcast. We are relaunching that in the next month. I’m working on getting people lined up to be on it that include brands, retailers, staff members and real guys out there.

  • My initial plan is to do a roundtable discussion of underwear talking about whats happening in the world of underwear. That include new pairs, innovation, creativity and more in underwear.
  • That is not all we want to have interview with brands so you can hear from the brands about how they created lines, new lines released and more
  • Behind the scenes of shoots and Vegas. Hear stories from our shoots and what happened. Also, I always have great stories from Vegas so I”d love to share them with you guys.
  • We want to have shows with readers on it, both gay and straight. Where we talk underwear from the “everyday guy” perspective. I think we have some of the smartest and brightest readers on the net.

I want to know what you want to hear on the podcast. What would be important? Is there a person or brand you want in particular on the shows? Are you interested in being on a show? Fill out the form below and let me know. If you are interested in being on make sure you leave your contact info, other wise you can leave it blank.

winter-underwearHere in Atlanta its in the 20’s and freakin’ cold. I know some of you around the world are saying, WTF is that all? Well for Atlanta it’s cold. It got me thinking of what undies I wear when it’s cool. I’m a total briefs guy. As many long time readers know. But when it’s cold I change from my usual pair and go for boxer briefs and more.

I’m not sure how many other guys change their preference due to weather. Its the only time i switch from my go to briefs to anything else. So I thought I would share a few pairs that I wear when it gets cold

13300924-83-04
Mundo Unico – I love the nylon boxer briefs. They keep me warm and give me great support and an amazing pouch. Of all the boxer briefs, Unico makes my favorite ones. The Mid Boxer pulsar (133000825-83) is one my current favorites. You maybe asking about the cotton spandex, for me personally, they don’t keep the heat in for me.
CF3-12-A
N2N Bodywear – Last year they released a great collection called Camp Fire. It’s N2N Bodywear spin on flanel underwear. It’s made with a great fit and you can get the one to the knee or longer. I Love these because they are super warm. You can wear something under them or just by themselves. I usually put on a signature boxer under them for a little extra support.
42b
Runners (no specific brand) – When its really cold, I wear runners. I am not a fan of traditional long johns. To me they have way too much bulk and have no support what so ever. So about 10 years ago It was super cold and when picking out my underwear for the day I saw the runners, and though if it’s good enough for guys to wear running with nothing over them, then it was good to wear under clothes. They fit great under jeans and you can’t really tell you are wearing anything else. They do a great job keeping you warm as well. Rufskin, N2N, Timoteo (pictured) all have runners, so you can go full on fashion and bright colors/patterns or go with traditional black/Navy

This year i want to try more of the traditional long johns that have come out from N2N, Timoteo, Frank Dandy and Cocksox. Each of them have launched a rebirth to the long john area. I think its’ just the start of more and fun long johns. Going forward it will be important for all guys to have warm and fashionable underwear.

I’m curious what you guys wear in the winter, post your favorites below or let us know!

andrew-christian-flaunt-trophy-boy-briefThe Trophy Boy line is one of the most popular at Andrew Christian. It has been in his line up for over a year. If you aren’t familiar with the line it’s a line made for the well endowed guy. Lately its been a trend to make undies for guys with extra room up front.

Andrew Christian has tweaked the new Trophy Boy just a bit. The biggest change is the waistband. Now the waistband has the Trophy Boy name in it. It no longer has the Andrew Christian branded waistband. The AC site says its a way to “announce your gift to the world.”

This is the first time that I can recall Andrew Christian has used a brand as the waistband. The color for the pair is Fuchsia. So if the waistband doesn’t make a statement the color definitely will! As with the other pairs it has the anatomical pouch of the previous line, and the extra room up front that trophy boys need.

If you love the Almost Naked line I suggest you getting these. I tried them out late last year and for endowed guys they are amazing. One of the best pairs on the market.

If you’re in the market for new undies check these out they currently retail for $19.98 at the Andrew Christian site.

blue-collar-underwearI love bringing you guys new underwear companies. It’s one of the things I love to do, and know we haven’t done so much lately but Blue Collar Underwear is one of the first companies we will be profiling. We will be doing a more in depth interview with them but wanted to give you guys an overview of the company.

Blue Collar is starting out small and will grow. They mainly have trunks and briefs currently. The pairs have cool colors and great contrasting trim. As you see above they use yellow/black, white/blue, blue/black and more. The one thing that really intrigues me is the pouch. I love a great pouch and these look like they paid attention to how they fit a guy.

We got to talk briefly through email and here is what they told us:

Blue Collar Underwear began as idea between My Business Partner and I over a dinner table after a day of work. We started this company to revolutionize the way you feel about your underwear and the way your underwear feel and look on you. Our goal with every pair of underwear is to bring functionality, fit, feel, comfort, quality and affordability back to the underwear industry. And we’re doing so without sacrificing style. So often, we see nice underwear, but cost more than we would care to spend.  With Blue Collar underwear you get the best of all worlds……….Blue Collar Underwear = Comfortable, Stylish and Affordable  with a tailored fit + Made with the finest fabrics

We started out by first identifying who we are as a brand and what we stood for and creating our designs around that. We’ve always been people who were very in tune with our artistic sides and have always had a keen eye and a slight obsession with fashion and underwear. It only made sense that we share that obsession with the world.

UnderwearGuyPhoto2It was a pleasure to interview Men’s Underwear Guy. He was around before UNB and one of the people who inspired me to create UNB. He took a break and is now back and check out his site. He’s an UBER underwear fan!

You have been one of the oldest underwear blogs on the net, what made you start your blog?

The first iteration of my site launched around 2007 and it was driven by what I saw as a gap in the available information online about men’s underwear. I am always shopping for new underwear and I like to make informed decisions but unfortunately, at the time, there was very little first-hand, objective information being provided. I realized that due to my extensive history and experience of shopping and wearing so many different types of underwear I was in a unique situation where I could share a lot of information that was well-researched and analytical rather than superficial and full of marketing-speak. I have a background in web design and writing so I thought an online website would be a good way to combine my professional skills with a personal passion.

What started your underwear love?

I can’t say I know exactly when I become so intrigued with men’s underwear but I do remember growing up in the 80s as a teen and noticing cool styles in the newspaper shopping inserts for underwear that frequently caught my eye. I was always interested in the unique designs and styles that were different from the regular white briefs like Hanes or Fruit Of The Loom. Since it was the 80s you could actually find regular department store brands advertising some interesting styles like bikini briefs made from sports mesh fabric in bright colors. Those few glimpses of what men’s underwear could be beyond the standard every-day styles opened my eyes to the coolUnderwearGuyPhoto1 ideas that could be applied to men’s underwear fashion.

Who are your favorite brands and why?

I like many different brands of underwear but I gravitate towards the designers who work hard to innovate all the time by refreshing their designs, sourcing new exotic fabrics and who aren’t afraid to push boundaries. Some of my favorite brands/labels include Modus Vivendi, Gregg Homme, BodyAware, Undergear, California Muscle and N2N Bodywear. There’s always room for standard day-to-day basics in my wardrobe but when it comes to finding underwear that makes me enthused to buy, it’s usually an innovation in design, engineering or fabric. I like knowing the designer is continuously striving to find the next big thing and working hard to keep up with trends. Men’s underwear has evolved to be much more of a fashion statement than ever before and it’s clear when a designer or label is really passionate about making a statement rather than just trying to latch on to an industry in the hopes of quick profits.

What are your favor styles for daily wear?

As readers of my blog know, I divide underwear into a variety of categories so the term daily wear has a specific meaning to me. I think daily wear should be comfortable, durable and functional while still being reasonably fashionable. Within those criteria I’d say my favorite styles for daily wear or generally low rise briefs with an exposed waistband in cotton-spandex blends as well as micromodal mini-briefs. I like the feeling of structure and shaping that a brief can supply combined with modern styling using basic, strong masculine colors.

I can’t remember how I found you but your site was awesome you do amazing and in depth reviews, how did you come up with your criteria?

My reviews have evolved over many years and I keep expanding the criteria that I rate an underwear item against. I’m a very detailed-oriented person and I work to cover virtually every aspect possible that would help other people make informed purchasing decisions. Some of my most favorite underwear factors to focus on are size range, pouch fit and fabric stretch. I think those three criteria are some of the most critical to whether or not an underwear garment is going to fit and feel good when you wear it and thus be worth the investment. Almost more than any other clothing item, underwear is a very personal fit and yet up until relatively recently, men’s underwear was treated as a mostly generic fit and design exercise. Every guy is not only going to need a specific size for his overall body, he’s going to desire a unique fit requirement for his package as well. Women have had bra cup sizes for decades but that underlying concept still hasn’t been fully realized as a specification system or buying option for men. Until a truly universal system has been adopted by the men’s underwear industry, “fit fragmentation” is going to be a prevalent issue so providing detailed information that describes how each cut of each design works will continue to find an audience. There’s nothing worse than spending your hard-earned cash and finding out you can’t wear something which can’t be returned.

You took a break from the blog but came back did it energize you to make a better blog?

I think the key word you used is “blog” which, for myself at any rate, defines a specific kind of site that follows a fairly rigid template in both style and content. Previously I had been able to find ways to bend the blog platform I was using to varying degrees of success but ultimately I knew I would need to break away into something more open in the future. Due to a variety of reasons taking my old site offline made sense at the time -as tough as it was to do. In planning the relaunch of my site I knew it had to be bigger and broader than my old site to keep things interesting for myself and my readers. Starting fresh with a new visual design and code template that was free from a specific platform really has been a great experience and I’m very pleased to be able to continuously update and enhance my site now that the foundation is in place.

What does the future hold for you and your blog?

Underwear reviews will of course be an ongoing staple of my site, I think that’s where the most value is found for a lot of my audience. In order to keep things interesting for myself, however, I intend to continue to develop content that extends outward beyond the mechanics of underwear and more into society, culture and artistic expression. There are several ideas and opinions I’ve been throwing around in my head regarding certain cultural expectations, given norms and evolving attitudes that are either surfaced by or reflected through men’s underwear. I certainly have enough ideas to keep me busy working round the clock if I had the free time so almost anything is open for the future.

Where can our readers find you?

I’ve been having a lot of fun using Twitter and YouTube to a much greater extent than I did previously and it’s a fun way to connect and hear back from underwear fans around the world. I can be found on Twitter at: https://twitter.com/underwearguy and on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/mensunderwearguy.
