Men’s Underwear

Category

There is a new store in the world of men’s underwear! Sound the fanfare and excitement. Our friends over at Menandunderwear have launched their own store. That’s right a blog and store all in one! I reached out to them, and they are pretty awesome and asked them about the store. They said that the store will focus on European men’s underwear brands. Which makes sense because that’s where they are located!

Was I expecting a store from them, nope, I saw it on Instagram. You never know what people are planning! The brands they will be starting off selling are Bluebuck (UK), Code 22 (Spain), and L’Homme Invisible (France). All really great brands. Make sure you go check out the awesome undies. Code 22 is one we need to cover more!

The last few years we have been challenging you guys to wear a swim brief. We have had various writers over the years to encourage you guys! Then last year we added in the Swim Thong challenge. UNB Ryan and a few other writers have braved the Thong in public and want more guys to join in on the fun. We are bringing them both back this year. I know that is a shocker!

We want to do more with the challenges. Not just talk about them but hear your stories about wearing a brief or thong for the first time in public. Share with us your feelings as you dropped the shorts for the first time. Then how your day went. Would you keep wearing them? Where you at a pool, beach or lake? Was it private or public?

The next big question is would you do one or both? Some guys have no desire to wear a thong and that’s fine. While other guys who want to wear a thong don’t want to wear a swim brief. It’s really surprised me over the last year how many guys want to thong it up. I have done both over the years but have never been brave enough to wear the thong in public. It’s always been a private pool. Swim briefs I have worn in private/public pools, at the lake, and at the ocean. Many times I was the only guy in them and I didn’t care. What can I say I was in my 20’s and said fuck it!

If you aren’t doing the challenge, why aren’t you? Is it because you’re married and you don’t want to do it around kids? You may not feel you can pull off either? Maybe it’s body image issues? Just why? There is no wrong answer. We are all guys who have bonded over underwear and you do you!

How can you share? You can email us directly or I’m going to set up an easy form (below) and on a page, you can do it anytime. I”ll probably add it to our contact form!

This is an on going debate with our guys and a few readers I talk to on a regular basis. Who should model underwear? Not just for us at UNB but in the industry as a whole. It’s always a divided issue some want models to be models and others what real guys. I think there should be a mix of both guys.

Why use Models

Male models are important to the world of underwear. Brands want to show you their underwear in the best light. Put their best foot forward so to say. Next, it’s aspirational as well. When you see a guy in an ad/pic/packaging for underwear, you want to feel you look as good as he does in the undies. This can be subconscious, but it does work in selling undies.

Lastly, models can create fans. Fans that will pay attention to what he wears and what companies he is used as a model. The primary example of this is UnderGear. They created a few celebrities in the world of underwear in their day. Today we have models like Steven Dehler, Eric Turner, Bruin Collinsworth, and Murray Swansby. The right model can add personality to the brand.

Why use Real guys

The biggest advantage is that you can see how underwear fits on real guys. Not models with washboard abs and 30-inch waists. We have a lot of readers who want to see this kind of guy in undies. We are starting to see more of this in social media. More brands are sharing their fan’s pics in undies. Nasty Pig is a brand that is embracing guys of all sizes in their content on Instagram. It’s not the “in shape, abs, and pecs.”

So far very few brands have used real guys for their campaigns. Brands that do use them always get rave reviews online for promoting a positive body image. It shows all guys can look great in their underwear no matter your size. Body Image is something that is growing in importance and should be addressed by all guys.

Each one of these has positives and negatives. I’m curious as to which you guys prefer and why? Or should there be a mix of both?

How long have you been into spandex gear? What got you initially interested?

My love of spandex goes back as far as I can remember. I loved comic books and superhero cartoons as a kid; I was obsessed with Batman ’66 and Christopher Reeves in the old Superman movies. Later, when my sexuality began to assert itself, it was clear that spandex gear on guys turned me on instantly. There was a guy named Derek in my junior high gym class who loved to wear spandex shorts, and I was obsessed with how they looked on him. I wanted spandex shorts for myself as badly as I wanted him.

How did you get the name Capitan Spandex?

It goes back to a joke that my friends and I had in university about a superhero whose only actual “superpower” was that he wore spandex – as much spandex as humanly possible. I secretly took it to heart, because I feel like a superhero when I’m wearing spandex gear… and the name has stuck.

You wear all spandex to the gym, in the pics you post on Instagram. Do you have any reactions at the gym either positive or negative?

It may be a function of where I live (in Western Canada, where everyone has opinions, but nobody shares them), but most of the reactions I get are positive. The hardest part about wearing tights openly in the gym was doing it the first time – and it took a while to work up to it for fear of what people might think. The first time I did it — terrified — I wore plain black tights and tried to look confident. It was almost shocking to me that nobody seemed to care.

Over time, I’ve gotten more and more brave about spandex gear in the gym and public (I also wear tights regularly, as everyday wear, when the weather’s good in the summer) and plain black tights now almost absent from my collection. I pick some designs because I like them, and some because I wonder if they’ll finally hit the “limit” of accessibility at the gym and attract different attention. More often than not, I get a thumbs-up from people. At worst, people tell me I’m brave or that I pull off the look well. At the end of the day, though: what matters is what makes me feel good when I work out.

May guys want to go full on spandex at the gym (no shorts over), what advice would you give them?

I can promise, based on personal experience, that it’s only terrifying the first time, and just up until the moment you start your first lift.

I feel like it took months for me to get to the point where I was confident enough to walk onto the gym floor in full tights, with no shorts. On the day that I finally forced myself to do it, I packed tights in my gym bag with no shorts and no other option: if I wanted to work out, there was going to be only one thing to wear. I dressed in the locker room, walked out to fill my water bottle, and expected there to be a line of people pointing and laughing. But nobody cared. Nobody noticed. Nobody said a word. I did my workout, felt amazing, and have worn tights every day since.

Most people in the gym are there to get their workout done. They don’t care what you wear nearly as much as they care about whether or not you put your weights away or wipe down your bench.

Wearing shorts over your tights is more conspicuous. It looks like you’re confident in your body but afraid of your genitalia. Take off the shorts.

I keep a couple of retorts in my back pocket, in case I need them to respond to a heckler in the gym. I’ve never had to use them. If someone were to mock my attire, I’d say “you wish you could make tights look this good.” If someone were to call me a faggot, I’d say “you’re darn right. Why – you want some?”

Who are your favorite brands for gym gear? What are the must-have pairs in your collection you think all guys would have in their gym bag?

For workouts – especially if you’re into things that take a toll on the legs, like spin class or powerlifting – I am a big fan of high-end compression gear from brands like 2XU, Skins, and Virus International. These tights are expensive – I can’t lie – but they’re built to support your workout, and the fit is unparalleled.

If you’re looking for more basic gym wear, leggings from Under Armour, Tesla Gears or SUB Compression are easy to find, and they look good. These don’t offer the same kind of support as high-end tights but they are very comfortable, and designs are excellent.

For middle-of-the-road spandex wear for inside and outside the gym, I like supporting Jeffery Scott (tightsguy.net) and LED Queens. Both are independent businesses run by men who know how to design tights for men. Jeffrey’s range of patterns and colors goes from badass gym gear to formal wear, and he has a bunch of different fabrics you can try (from cotton jersey tights to high-compression nylon). LED Queens gear has a wide range of striking prints that all come on a lovely, soft, comfortable lycra blend.

Are you a DC or Marvel fan in your superhero gear?

I am mostly a Marvel fan. I like the grittiness and flawed nature of their characters better. But I have always had a soft spot for the mainstay DC characters (think of the original Justice League). Superman, Batman, Flash and Green Lantern are all in my collection alongside many Spider-Men and others.

How many super spandex suits do you own? Do you have a favorite superhero to wear?

I have 12 superhero costumes at the moment if you include a wild Wolverine suit made of spandex, suede, and leather that has seen rough times and needs some repair work. My favorites are always shifting, but right now my Infinity-War-style Spidey and my Batman bodysuit (I still need to get the cape, cowl, boots, and gauntlets) are very exciting to wear.

What superhero suit is high on your list to get next?

Because I’m Canadian I have a soft spot for Captain Canuck and hope to get a suit made based on the design in his recent Chapterhouse Comics reboot. If the stars align, I may have that put together by the end of the summer.

I have looked for suits before; they aren’t always easy to find. Where do you get most of your suits?

My go-to site for mid-priced suits is herostime.com. They’ve always been good to me. They have a vast catalog of costume designs, will customize an outfit to match your measurements and preferences for zippers, and have a decent turnaround time and fast shipping. You have tons of options for things like zippers, which can make the difference in a suit that’s practical and one that’s a pain in the butt to wear. For the record, I like forearm zippers (to help get gloves off and free up hands without having separate pieces), crotch zippers (get the male version for essential practical use and the female version if you also like to bottom), and a U-shaped zipper in the back (which is less noticeable/visible than a straight back zipper).

I purchased a Petit –Q Lace Thong Ornex Green for review

Rating: 7/10 (Average of the ratings below)

  • Daily Fit: 6/10
  • Sizing: 6/10
  • Construction: 8/10
  • Styling: 9/10
  • Daily Performance: 6/10

Pros:

  • The styling
  • The color
  • The lace fabric

Cons:

  • The pouch size is too small
  • The lack of a form-fitting pouch
  • The strap connecting front to back is way too long

UNB Ryan recommendation: I thoroughly enjoyed trying the new thong line by Petit-Q and will be back in the future to try out some of their new styles. I really like the way the color of the lace stands out against my skin tone and the fact it is visibly see through for quite the surprise under your pants. I also like the dual strap design which isn’t seen too often in male underwear.

I ordered a pair of Petit-Q’s Lace Thong Ornex in Neon Green Lace because I was intrigued by the style and fabric pairing. This pair has a dual strap design that forms a thong rear that sits high on your booty and connects to a full coverage front. This was the first pair of Petit-Q that I purchased. I’ve been a long time stalker of the brand and their unique styles, but have been hesitant to purchase, as I wasn’t familiar with the brand. As I haven’t tried anything by them before, I don’t have a benchmark to compare them to, so I’ll have to just share my thoughts on these alone for now. I looked forward to this pair arriving in the mail as soon as I clicked the order button on the Petit-Q website. As I am an avid thong wearer, this pair wasn’t out of my realm at all and I felt it would be right up my alley.

I honestly didn’t do a whole lot while wearing this pair. I have worn around the house as loungewear, and under my slacks to work a couple of times, otherwise, I haven’t done anything very active in them. Once you get them pulled up and situated this pair feels very sexy due to the cut and lace construction. The dual strap design adds to the excitement I felt before and after pulling them on. While wearing them the only complaints I had was the way the strap connecting the front to rear is about an inch too long, and the pouch is a bit undersized and not as stretchy as I am accustomed to.

Petit-Q has done an outstanding job both designing and constructing this suit. The craftsmanship is world class and they have lived up to the expectation of quality I expected from a company of their stature. I was unable to see any shortcomings with the way this pair was put together. The fabric they chose for this pair is a brilliant neon green lace that is sure to stand out on any skin tone, and looks great with the dual straps that wrap around to the thong rear which leaves little to the imagination. And this is one of their more modest suits!

I bought the Thong Lace Ornex Green in a size small. Compared to industry standards, it is in line with most other size small underwear in the waist sizing. However, you need to be aware that they are a much higher cut than most men’s thongs, and will peek above your pants if you’re not careful. Also, the pouch is not very roomy (and I’m a modest average size down there) and is also connected fairly high on the front side. Your package will be pulled flat against your body rather than pushed out front like it is in a bulge pouch design.

In my opinion, this is a very well constructed thong that feels most at home in the bedroom. I would not want to wear this to the gym or for a run around the block because it was clearly designed to be lounge or sexy time wear. That being said, if this thong fits your description of a new, sexy style from an innovative designer, you will love this pair. Give Petit-Q a try whether it is with this pair or another of their offerings and you will not be disappointed!

4 Hunks has some amazing gear! They have been releasing more than just underwear in the last few weeks. One of the newest pairs is a thong. However, there is one issue that is causing an issue. They don’t have a name for it. 4 Hunks is holding a contest to give away the thong and get the chance to name it.

As you can see by the pic it’s a pretty sexy as hell thong. It’s the first time 4 Hunks has made a thong and I hope not the last. I’m loving the gear they create. It’s great gear that you can wear for regular wear or fetish time! Who doesn’t love versatile gear!

So how do you win this amazing thong? Go over to the 4 Hunk site. Navigate to the Promotions page. Follow the rules and then come up with a name. If chosen as the winner you get the thong and the pride knowing you named a piece of underwear. Heck, even I haven’t done that yet. I’ve done a lot but never named a pair or line. I guess I need to try harder!

After this pair is released we will bring you more in-depth coverage on the pair.

It’s been a while since we had an endowed series. One brand that has always embraced the big guy is WildmanT. They have had the Big Boy series and now they have released the Duo Big Boy. Which they say has the same great pouch but is a mix of mesh and cotton. Perfect for those who need the extra room or want extra room.

One thing I have always loved about WildmanT is that they know guys love different styles for their Big Boy line. Some guys prefer trunks, others briefs, and the others jocks. The new line has all these styles in the line! Personally, I go towards the jock and brief. But I know there are guys who want extra coverage.

This is what WildmanT says about line:

WildmanT Big Boy Pouch underwear has become the solution for many men looking for more room and extra comfort. Our pouch cups your manhood and then allows it to swing freely with the easy your low hangers were meant to! We offer extra room and support like no other underwear can.

Don’t have BIG BOYS or BIG JUNK but sick of having your junk smashed? Are you uncomfortable at your office desk and need to readjust often? Do you like to go commando but find it inappropriate at times??? Then you are a WildmanT Big Boy!!

You don’t have to have big junk to enjoy the freedom of the roomy pouch. Our Big Boy Pouch line is like having a private special add-on for your family jewels keeping you cooler and more comfortable.

The fabric is Body: 90% Nylon / 10% Lycra  Pouch: 92% Cotton / 8% Lycra. The pouch on each is the solid cotton fabric. The colors of this line are the waistbands. The colors are Black, Blue, and Red. The pouches are black and the mesh fabric is white. They are pretty low key, which can be a good thing.

Make sure you head to the WildmanT to see and shop the Duo Big Boy Line.

I really love the Buzz Feed videos. They are very underwear positive. They don’t make fun of things deliberately. They have had the Try Guys try Andrew Christian. The humor here was real guys trying different underwear. The video they dropped last year was Men Get Styled for their Perfect Underwear. As you can see they take real guys and with the help of MeUndies give them beter underwear. The best thing is they used a real guy. A bigger guy in the video.

One interesting tip in the video is you should refresh your underwer drawer every 12 months. I think for most readers of UNB we refresh ours monthly.

Did you know you could be buying Underwear wrong! Well, not that you’re doing the transaction wrong but rather some habits you have maybe costing you money and leaving you with underwear that you may not like, oh let’s face it, undies you hate!

We came up with five mistakes guys make when buying underwear. I’m guilty of these myself. If you’re in a hurry and not looking, you can do any number of these

Getting the Wrong Sizing

The first mistake and probably the biggest is not looking at the size chart and ordering the wrong size. If you buy all your undies from a brand you know and love, this is less of an issue. However, if you buy from overseas or a new brand, ALWAYS check the size guide. Not all brand have a medium as a 32-inch waist. I have seen some brand where a 32 is an XL!

Make it a habit to check the size guide for all brand you wear. It will make sure that if you get an incorrect size, it will be on the website and not you!

Fabric composition

I have done this one. You see a pair that is super hot. It’s everything you want in a pair. The color, waistband, and cut. It’s like it fell from underwear heaven just for you. You quickly order it. But once it comes in the mail, you realize that its a fabric blend you don’t like. Such as polyester with not a lot of give in the fabric.

You go back to the site and look and see that the fabric was listed and you didn’t pay attention because you wanted that pair. I have had several pairs of these over the years!

Unknowingly buying Knockoffs

This is a more recent one. If you buy from a brand or well-known underwear retailers, this will be less of an issue. If you buy from sites that are a conglomeration of sellers, you could run into this problem. Most big brands have knock-offs on sites big and small. One named after a river in South America.

These pairs are usually way under the cost of the brand’s website. The quality of the fabric and construction are way less. As the old saying goes “You get what you pay for.” If you find a pair of Andrew Christian for $3 online, buyer beware. If you buy from these sites, make sure you’re buying directly from the brand or a seller you know and trust.

Not reading the care instructions

One thing that isn’t pointed out as much as it should be is care instructions. There are so many pairs out there that look amazing on the site but tell you to hand wash and air dry. A lot of guys don’t have the time to do this and stick them in the washing machine, only to have them degrade or be destroyed in the washing machine.

A lot of stores have the care instructions at the very bottom or on another tab on the page. If you buy lace, silk, leather or similar fabric. Check the care instructions before you buy.

Buying styles out of habit

The last one is for those guys who have always worn boxer briefs. It’s not venturing out and trying something new. Or could be said the same for any style. It’s important to try something out of your comfort zone. One thing that I discovered I like a lot are the longer, athletic boxer briefs. When I work out the support is great as is the support. I never thought I would enjoy them. On the other end, I enjoy some thongs too.

Try new things and don’t fall into just one style. Enjoy all that underwear has to give!

These are our five mistakes, what mistakes do you guys see other guys, or yourself, making

Bring the heat with the new Spice collection. The new collection from Cocksox is all about solid and bold colors! Not every guy who reads UNB wants prints, patterns or such. They want some bright and bold colors that express who they are! There are four new colors. A new style and a singlet aka tank top! Sorry guys, but down under they call singlets, tank tops.

The four new colors in this collection are Sumac Red, Mint, Casablanca, Lapis Blue. These colors are inspired by the desert and the rich culture of Morocco. They will make a statement. I personally love big bold colors in underwear. It’s fun to put them on and wear them all day. The red, which I saw in Vegas, is vibrant and fun. Well, the entire collection is amazing and well worth looking into adding to your underwear drawer.

New in this collection is the CX05BD Thong. It’s the classic thong design with contrast color trim. It’s similar to CXO1 they released a few years ago. Next is they ware adding the CX03 Waistband Brief and the CX93 long boxer brief. The Long boxer brief is pretty amazing. This is coming from someone who isn’t a big boxer brief fan. The legs are tight and have the amazing Cocksox pouch. I don’t know how they translate it from a brief to a boxer brief.

Lastly is the Tank. They have them with the Cocksox logo on the front. You can broadcast your love for the brand! I’m sure if you wore out in general public you would get some looks. Or if you wore to the gym! Some of you guys just really don’t care and will rock it regardless!

Make sure you head to the Cocksox site and check out the Spice Collection

Guys come to this blog for some of the best underwear on the planet. From thongs to boxer briefs and everything in between, is what you guys want. Lately, it’s been a lot of thongs and skimpier gear. Bikinis have always been popular but there has been a big resurgence in thongs. This is not just gay guys but straight guys are loving the thong. So, you have a great underwear collection, but want to branch out a little, what gear is next? Glad you asked. I started my journey with undies but love a lot. Here are a few of my favorites. I have them divided up for guys who want to step out and try the waters. To those who have some experince, to those who are into it or just want to jump in the deep end:

Swim Briefs – Intermediate

A natural transgression from undies is swim briefs. Yes, we have out annual Swim Brief Challenge, but not everyone is convinced to try them. Imagine how amazing your bikinis and briefs feel every day. Now imagine you could have that same feeling on the beach. Amazing support along with a fit you love. Try the traditional Speedo and TYR brands most swimmers and divers wear. These won’t show off too much for a beginner and has a great fit. After you try them move on to more brads.

Singlets/Spandex – Moderate

This is my all-time favorite. Singlets that is but we include spandex as well. I currently have about 15-20 singles. They were not the first spandex gear I bought but they are my favorite. The look and feel of them make them amazing. Mix that with the fact you don’t have to wear anything under them. Granted, you could wear a jock, brief or thong under them. Singlets are no longer for HS and college wrestling. It’s entered the world as fetishwear. You can get the full cut collegiate style to cut-outs in the front or back for fun time. It all depends on what you like.

Spandex includes more than just singlets. Runners, shorts, and shirts are other gear to look at buying. Since the introduction of UnderArmour, compression and just workout gear made from spandex are having a renaissance of sorts. It’s made it main stream to rock a spandex shirt to the gym. Or wear compression shorts to the gym under your shorts. One reason I love this gear is that it gives you a lot of support when working out. There are more and more brands to try. UA is one of the most expensive but check around for different brands.

Fetishwear – Advanced

Last is fetishwear. I”m not talking underwear fetishwaear. I’m talking leather, rubber, and latex. Leather has been around for almost forever I think. It’s been relegated to gay men but the straight world is taking notice and starting to get into harnesses, chaps and jocks. Plus, you’re no longer a freak for wearing leather. I say go have fun with it! I have a few pieces and want more. Just be warned it’s addictive and way more than undies.

Start small in this with a harness or jock. Then see how you like it and grow the collection. Make sure you involve your significant other in the fetishwear. If you don’t have a SO, well then go explore and have fun. Once you get into looking at fetishwear it will grow exponentially. Let that side you resist come out and play!

Recommendations

  1. If you love undies, branch out and explore more
  2. Get competitive style swim briefs if you want to step out on a limb before committing
  3. To go a bit wilder, explore spandex. Singlets, runners, shorts, and more! It’s not too expensive to buy.
  4. If you want to plunge into the deep end, go right or the leather/latex/rubber gear. Let that freak flag fly high and proud.
  5. Don’t let anyone discourage you from trying something you want to wear. Go have fun regardless of size, shape, or body type. Be who you are!
