We take you back to Sept 2009 in this weeks TBT. This is a pic by Tom Cullis featuring Timoteo underwear. This was before Cellblock 13. Seeing how this brand has grown in the last 14 years is fantastic.

There has been an unwritten rule in buyers’ heads on what exactly is men’s underwear. It has to conform to these rules; if it deviates, those aren’t for “real men.”
- Underwear is made from certain fabrics – Cotton, some spandex, but nothing wild like mesh, lace, or satin.
- Men’s underwear should perform a function rather than fashion, such as compression gear for the gym and cotton undies for everyday wear.
- There should be no bold colors. It should only be “masculine” colors—white, black, Navy, possibly burgundy, but nothing too wild.
- They should pass the gym test. The gym test is to change in the locker room and have no one raise an eyebrow about what you are wearing. Do not draw attention to yourself.
- Significant other test – The underwear should never raise a question about your sexuality. You never want your partner to question if you play for the other team.
- There are only a few acceptable styles – The only acceptable styles for most guys are boxers and boxer briefs. Briefs are a maybe, but nothing else.
These rules are aimed at the general public across the sexual spectrum. Since the 90s, we have put men in a box and said, “These are your options.” The only change to that is now it’s acceptable to wear UA gear to the gym.
You may be asking yourself, why are we posting these? Because we are experiencing a shift in the world of men’s underwear. I have been contacted by more straight men rejecting those rules and wearing what they want.
Guys across the sexual spectrum are fed up with only a few options when women have had so many options for feeling sexy, working out, and just relaxing at home. Thongs are rising in popularity, not just regular thongs, made out of the non-masculine materials of lace, silk, and satin.
It’s time we have no rules for men’s underwear and let other guys wear what they want without judgment. We all have things we don’t like, but we shouldn’t shame or look down on those who wear those things. We need to support one another and encourage those who step out of their box.

ANNIVERSARY GALLERY: 18 YEARS OF OUR MODELS AND PHOTOGRAPHY
We could have been your run of the mill online underwear store, using manufacturer supplied photos like most other online stores but from the start we wanted to define ourselves by producing our own photography and making it hot. Right from the get-go we took a more sexy, artistic and uncensored approach to what is essentially catalog photography. Our photography along with our diverse, often non-typical selection of models helps us stand out in a very competitive industry. It’s the more expensive and time-consuming route to take but we feel it’s worth it, don’t you?
We may have been fumbling through the photography process during the early years but it’s interesting to see the whole 18 year evolution which is pretty evident in this gallery. In the beginning we were virgins (no, really) and we didn’t quite know what we were doing, but there was one photo from our very first shoot with model and porn star Tommy D (the first one in the gallery) that we believed captured exactly what we wanted Jockstrap Central to be – sexy yet playful and fun – and that marked the start of our photographic journey.
As for this special gallery, we originally launched it during our 10 year anniversary but have now updated it to include our most recent models. In the gallery, we’ve selected one photo from every single shoot we’ve done – that’s a whopping 200 shoots.
Finally, each photo is labeled with the model’s name, year of the shoot and is ordered sequentially from earliest to latest so you can see the progression. Be warned, parts of the gallery are not safe for work (but you probably guessed that!)

Is it turning positive?
I watch two shows: one is Below Deck Down Under, and the other is Selling the OC. Below Deck is on Bravo, and Selling the OC is on Netflix. I bring up both of these shows because they positively portray underwear.
Below Deck Budgies
When season 2 of Below Deck Down Under started, we had a deckhand, Harry, break out the Budgie Smugglers and say it was a part of his culture. Harry is a tall, adorkable guy who always wears the Budgies in the hot top. Another of the deckhands (both are from Australia) wore them like it was no big deal.
As the season went on, the deck crew started to wear them for the guests—situations like a strip-type show, serving dinners, and more. This led to the deck crew beginning to regularly unravel the budgies to the hot tub. The American guys would say, “Budgies in the hot tub.” This was so great to see, and it was no big deal!
There was one slight controversy: the Captain, Jason, wore them to serve guests dinner, and the internet lit up that he shouldn’t have to do something uncomfortable. (I was going to write a whole post on the hypocrisy of this but didn’t). How many women in the yachting industry have worn things outside their comfort zone but did it for the tip?
Overall, the guys wearing swim briefs were not a joke or prank. The guys genuinely liked wearing them even in the off time. This was great to see on TV.
Selling the OC Boxer Briefs
The next show only had a brief moment on the last episode of season 2. Polly had a PJ Birthday party in a mega-mansion, and everyone came dressed in some fun and stylish PJS; my PJS would be undies. Not some coordinated outfit as some of them wore. Tyler, one of the people on the show, showed up in an unbuttoned shirt and a pair of navy BN3TH boxer briefs. I hope this trend keeps going, and we see even skimpier underwear styles, as a matter of fact, on reality and scripted shows (once the strikes are done). Do you watch these shows?
