Karakatoa Underwear furnished the Classic Trunk for review.

Rating: 9.6/10

  • Daily Fit: 9/10
  • Sizing: 10/10
  • Construction: 10/10
  • Styling: 10/10
  • Daily Performance: 9/10

Pros: Fabric, True Size, Cut

Cons: No overwhelming cons.

SALVATORE Recommendation: Every now and again a new brand erupts onto the men’s underwear scene. Krakatoa has done just that. Their marketing and visual appeal is overwhelmingly stimulating and captures curiosity. When I first saw their website. I flipped—their designs called to me and asked to borrow my body for a trek to the tip of an active volcano. That would eventually lead to a glimpse a near underwear perfection. Okay, a little dramatic, but their slogan, “Put a Volcano in Your Pants.” Kind of lends itself to that type of drama. The bottom line. Their appeal through marketing and visual stimulation is backed with a superior product that everyone needs to give a chance. Here’s what I observed while wearing the trunk.

Construction: The designers obviously rushed nothing in perfecting the cut of these trunks. Perfection takes practice and practice takes time. From the waistband to the leg bands, everything is on point. I feel like these trunks were cut to my exact dimensions. There is nothing shabby or cheap about their look and their function. Krakatoa nailed construction!

Fabric: What’s not to like about Micro-Modal (92%). It’s a perfectly soft and stretchy fabric. That literally feels like part of your epidermis. Amazing! I’m wearing this trunk as I type and I keep asking myself if I’m even wearing underwear. Combine the fabric with the ultra-silky and wide waistband. The result is a superior non-binding performance in an elite fabric.

Sizing: These guys have put so much thought into their products that sizing is spot on. Order the exact size of your waist. They won’t shrink and the three-way stretch fabric allows you to be true to your own size. Most guys order their underwear a size larger than normal to account for tight binding that typically comes with underwear shrinkage after a wash or two. No need here. I wear an XL in every brand on the market. I ordered Krakatoa in L (my true size). They fit perfectly.

GreyTRK_Antoine_1024x1024Pouch: When I first saw the pouch, I was a little disappointed. Being a self-professed expert in the anatomical pouch, I can spot an imposter. I was so disappointed that I didn’t even try the trunks on for a few days. Because I was sure I’d hate the bound tight compressed feel of non-anatomical pouch. When I finally got around to slipping into the pair, I realized that I had misjudged Krakatoa’s pouch. I failed to account for the superior construction and the elite fabric combination that does indeed give you a near anatomical feel. I wouldn’t categorize the pouch as all out anatomical, but I would say that the pouch is more than contoured. At any rate, the pouch does not bother me. There is a very solid cupping feel that pulls the anatomy away from the body and prevents chaffing. This is extremely acceptable to me and I will order more of these trunks. As the UNB pouch snob, give it a shot.

Daily Wear: I wore the trunks under a pair of shorts to a dinner party. Give me a break. I live in Hawaii. Everyone wears shorts to dinner parties. I did not get the normal leg band crawl up that I experience when wearing trunks. I also did not feel the need to adjust anything on this pair of underwear. I was crawling on the floor, sitting in a chair, reclining on a couch, laying on the floor, etc. The trunks stayed in place beautifully. The seaming on the trunks all takes place under and on top of the pouch. This allows you to wear them under tight pants or slacks. Without a huge line in the buttocks area—absolutely wonderful experience.

As we have interacted with the team at Krakatoa over the last couple of weeks. It has become evident that they are about one thing—customer happiness. Stories of guys telling their own experiences with this brand are really encouraging. Not only do they make a great product, they connect with the heart of the industry—YOU, the consumer. Whatever you do, don’t let another moment pass you buy without buying a pair of Krakatoa trunks. Put a volcano in your pants and let your underwear drawer erupt with happiness.

Have some fun with Xdress
I had the great pleasure to ask XDress some questions about what makes them, them and I’m equally excited to share our back and forth with you all. The brand first caught my attention on Twitter when I was searching for different underwear styles and I have to admit, I was fascinated. While I never acted on the instinct, when I was younger I was curious about the different styles of underwear that my sisters would leave strewn about the house and bathrooms. So my attention was instantly piqued by XDress.

Below are some amazing responses from the brand that I think everyone should read. The most important part that stood out to me was their emphasis on allowing anyone, any man to experience and indulge his feminine side. As people who are complex creatures who even in the most 1950’s style terms could never be described as fully a masculine or a fully feminine creature and I think using underwear as an outlet to help express parts of yourself you might not often do, is inspiring.

One other thing I want to point out that is more of a “sense” than an actual thing written below is this: XDress is a very fun, exciting, and engaging brand. They really love engaging with customers and potential customers. I think they do a wonderful job or intriguing people and then engaging with them. Really it this sentiment can be summed up with the drink that they picked to describe themselves: a Cosmo.

So enjoy my interview with XDress!

Beau: How long has XDress been operating?

XDress: XDress has been in business since 1988! Almost 30 years of offering beautiful panties for men!

Beau: Happy almost 30th!!

Beau: What were some of the founding philosophies or ideas?

XDress: We wanted to make products for men who were interested in crossdressing, but we wanted to make them in a way that made them feel like the items were made specifically for them. Since our items are made to fit the male form, they don’t give the feeling that you’re squeezing into some panties that weren’t meant for a man’s body. Our items are made so that men can also tap into their femininity, just as much as women our allowed to be! We also believe in keeping our production based locally in Arizona, providing jobs and work to people right in our home state.

c3aff09c74fecc9a54a61f6e244c8560

Beau: Makes total sense, men want to have that form, that style but at the same time, there’s more that can need to go into it. Also, love the home state perspective, that’s great to hear.

Beau: How is the XDress structured/how does it function?

XDress: We have our designer who comes up with all of the ideas, either from her own creation or through collaboration with other manufacturers. Once the designs are finalized, our in-house seamstress will make a sample of the design for the media team to take photos of at our product shoots. While the media team works on the photos and social media part of getting the word out about the new products, our seamstresses, as well as any manufacturers we’re partnered with, will get the product all sewn together. From there, the item is made available on our website for our wonderful shipping team to send out to the customer!

Beau: What’s the best part of being a part of the XDress team?

XDress: We definitely love that we offer items that men can wear to fully express themselves, despite how society tries to put them in a box. Our customers are always so happy to see new frilly, lacy, or silky garments from us, and just knowing that we’re giving them something that makes them feel good inside is satisfying for all of us.

Beau: How would you describe the character of XDress? Care to put it into a Hogwarts house or perhaps a Disney character?

XDress: The character of XDress would definitely be someone who’s fun and flirty, but who can amp up the class at a moment’s notice. If XDress was sorted into a Harry Potter house, it definitely would be Slytherin. Something about our seductive nature just makes that feel right. And if XDress was a Disney princess? We’re a little like Mulan in a way, since we’re going against the gender grain to show the world that men don’t just have to be masculine!

536351c4eb75e6d005b56b8e8c5f20f9

Beau: I always respect someone who can put themselves into Slytherin, I imagine you’re a bit like me, part Slyhterin and part Hufflepuff. And yes, Mulan makes perfect sense.

Beau: If XDress was going out for a drink on Friday night, what would it be drinking?

  1. Definitely a cosmopolitan, because we’re a little fruity, a little flirty, and a whole lot of fun!

Beau: Yay cosmos!

Beau: What sort of response has XDress gotten since launching?

XDress: There’s definitely an interesting mix of responses that we’ve gotten since we started selling panties for men. Because it’s such a niche market, we get the best responses from our regulars who have been buying from us for years, or the people who happen to find us through social media because they’re looking for a crossdressing community to follow. More mainstream outlets tend to treat our products as jokes or something “weird,” but we notice that it still gives us publicity and attracts new customers, despite how they frame our company. So really, the joke’s on them!

Beau: How does XDress approach its design process?

XDress: We look to design items that keep up with the latest trends in fashion, to keep a sort of modern sensibility to our products. Some items we’ll try to make more simple, but we definitely like to go big and bold with some other designs, that way we have something for everyone.

Beau: What would you like our readers to know about XDress that they might not?

XDress: I think we’d want them to know that, even though we cater mostly to cross-dressing individuals, our products are for any guy who would be interested in trying some more “feminine” clothing items. The world of fashion is really changing, and going a tad more feminine with a man’s wardrobe is way more common nowadays, so our products are really for any man who feels like tapping into their femininity.

Beau: Using underwear as an outlet for that is amazing, it’s great that you are able to help offer people that ability.

Beau: How would you describe (if you want) the XDress consumer?

XDress: The typical XDress customer is very enthusiastic, for sure! Our customers are always letting us know how excited they are about new products, are happy to give us feedback about our designs, and are always willing to engage with us on social media. I very rarely see customers get this passionate about a company they love, so it’s amazing to be working at a company where the customers are so proactive about showing their appreciation!

today's-2

I’ve always been into underwear. Since the age of 11 or 12, the idea being fashionable under my pants has always intrigued me. At times, people have made fun of my underwear choices. For the most part friends and family think that what I wear down below is simply a matter of choice. My choice to decide what is comfortable and what is fashionable. I truly believe that we should wear what we enjoy and what we like.

The men’s underwear industry is one of the (if not the) fastest growing markets in fashion. I remember the days when men wore bikinis and thongs. The early 1990’s seemed to promulgate the cause. The problem was that there just simply wasn’t a lot to choose from. Today, there are hundreds of brands to peruse online and make the perfect selection.

Several Valentine Days ago. As the Internet was becoming an option for shopping. I logged on to a popular women’s lingerie site to order my wife something special. I searched for the perfect set of fire engine red skimpiness that I thought she’d look great in. I made the purchase and got the confirmation receipt. As I was preparing to log off of the Internet, I had a flash of brilliance. What if I bought myself something to match what I bought her? I immediately began perusing known men’s underwear outlets online.

That led me to my first pre-encounter with an anatomical pouch. Why the pre-encounter label? Simple—anatomical pouches were not an option back then. I just assumed that the design was a fluke. After all, 2Xist was producing contour pouches along with UnderGear. That idea was throwing the industry in a tailspin. Full anatomicalness was nowhere on the radar.

Back to the story. I came across a retailer that I’d never purchased from before—BodyAware. They had some really Unknownawesome edgy looking stuff. I did a simple search for “red” (remember, I want to match what I bought my wife). Up popped this very sexy mesh pouch G.—the Gossamer String It matched, so I purchased. I remember getting the pair in the mail. Not much to them at all. The string portion in the back. Had a cool teardrop pattern where the waistband met the crack string—pretty awesome indeed!

I tried them on. I straightened out the stringiness and untwisted the G-string portion. I noticed that my manhood seemed to hang naturally and freely. I grabbed the pouch and immediately enjoyed the complete freedom of movement. The ergonomically design stuck out to me. If only I had the foresight to see underwear production potential. BodyAware had pre-hooked me on what I now have exclusively in my collection.

Some of you are reading this and wanting to know how my wife reacted. She thought it was great! I’ll leave the details of the rest of the night locked in the vault of discussion that only she and I have the key to. At any rate, an addiction was birthed. I just didn’t realize it yet!

What do you missthe most aboutWest Grove High?

The world of men’s underwear is very diverse. Most men find their favorites brands and order whatever fits them best. Nick and the team at Niku are exploding onto the market with some great products. I recently had a conversation with Nick to get some insight on his business. I hope you enjoy reading about what Niku is doing and go out and try their products.

Salvatore: What got you started in the underwear industry?

Nick:   I am formally trained as fashion designer and pattern cutter and I have been making my own underwear for many years. Around the year 2009 I was between jobs I wanted to create a brand, make a website and ship around the world.

I have to admit that as much as I liked underwear my other choice was denim jeans. We all love that perfect pair that fits just right. The Italian brands get it right for me: Dondub, D&G, Versace. The whole world wears jeans, but denim is a very expensive process and the environmental impact is huge. Shipping underwear anywhere to any place in the world is a much more cost-effective option for a startup like me. With underwear matching my passion for good jeans and having made my own underwear for some time it was an easy leap to start the NIKU brand on the world`s fastest growing market: men`s fashion underwear. I have always been hands on in the manufacturing industry. The processes fascinated me and I mastered all of them: Design, patternmaking, grading, cutting, sewing, screen-printing, etc. I have had some of my own businesses in the past and started out young then. This taught me a great deal about trade, the industry and business. I was too young to be taken serious, but did end up being headhunted.

To start was not an easy process. A great deal of sacrifice is required. The development process is costly. Being new in the market makes for slow sales. Hard work and determination is required to push in and win that space in the shop shelves. Education of the clients, as well as store buyers, and a slow conversion of customers to make NIKU their new best brand is a difficult process.

Many guys approach me directly or by e-mail with advice to start their own brand. The strong images and huge Internet following makes many want to be a part of it. The cost of getting started has many running for the hills. I have helped a few get to the point of having a good selling range. Others I advise to get involved in sales, shoots, blogging and many other creative ways of becoming part of this industry. For those who are willing to be consumers of the images and garments we produce, I express my gratitude, because they motivate us to push on and keep doing better.

Salvatore: Specifically, what led you to high quality men’s underwear? What setbacks and successes have you experienced throughout the process of startup?

Nick: I always had a passion for underwear. It was the first thing I would buy myself on my travels to many cities around the world.

The worst setbacks are bad business people who do not honour their word. They waste your time and some do not pay their bills. When you do not grow your business and have no funds available to buy stock in and request consignment stock.

My best success is when a client returns time and time again and they changed over to only wearing NIKU. There have been many and I am sure still many more to come.

Salvatore: From the production aspect, what does it take to create a pair of your underwear from start to finish?

Nick: The raw materials needed are elastic, fabric, and labels. Then one needs a pattern that is well developed for cut and fit. With the proper machinery it is a quick and effortless process. My skilled staff put a pair together very quickly.

Salvatore: What is the logic behind your emphasis on the basic look and your pouch design

Nick: Lots of guys like basic looks. That’s what we offer. #bestbasic refer to mainly style, eg. brief or trunk. None of the weird and wonderful creations you can find out there. The basic styles are updated with fabric, paneling and contrast bindings to bring a new modern look.

The pouches are well fitted and tested. Anatomical is quite accurate. I have to tell you this funny story about a lady that used to sew for me. As an older lady her statement was even funnier.

The pieces of cloth that make up the pouch look like leaves. One day as she was sewing pouches she told me that from her experience with men, I can cut my leaves smaller. Lol ! We had such a good laugh.  I have found that older men like a looser pouch . We incorporate various pouches with the different styles and the clients find their best pair.

Salvatore: What types of people are buying your brand? Are your clients mainly South African or are other countries catching on?

Nick: We make converts all the time; from gay men to a greater amount of straight men. Most of our clients are mainly South Africans. We do have many foreign visitors to Cape Town who discover and support NIKU. Some websites sell NIKU to the international markets and we have shipped to diverse places around the globe.

Salvatore: How important is client feedback? Can you share some of the feedback you’ve received?

Nick: Most styles are developed on client feedback. Some of the first feedback from clients helped us reach the perfect size of the pouches. Then new preferences like low cut or high rise are some of the additions according to demand. The sales figures are the best form of client feedback. We love to see styles fly off the shelf as result of client affirmation of our fabric choices and color combinations.

Salvatore: What is the most important thing for our readers to understand about your processes, product, and professionalism?

Nick: We desire to make underwear and other garments that overtake garments in your wardrobe as your new favorite. NIKU is the first garment you reach for in that freshly laundered pile.

Salvatore: Thank for sharing your heart and passion for underwear, Nick.  We look forward to working with your brand on many posts.  Can’t wait to try your products.

Good ByeThis is the unofficial end of summer in the States. Labor Day weekend marks the end of summer for most people. It’s one last trip to the beach before we start getting ready for fall and the holiday season. That means the end of swimwear for most people. If you’re lucky to be in Hawaii, South Florida or Southern Hemisphere. You can still rock on the swimwear.

The reason we did Swimwear Sunday was to get more of you guys to try swim briefs. We here at UNB love them. I have been wearing them since my teens. I never wore them out anywhere until my 20’s. To me wearing one is just freeing. Wearing board shorts and such is too much fabric. It restricts your movement in the water and takes forever to dry. Swim briefs are the opposite in every way.

In something ironic, this was the first summer I didn’t wear a swim brief. I actually didn’t have any pool, lake or ocean time this year. Last year I had a few times. So, here I am preaching swim briefs and didn’t even wear one this year. However, I have quite a few I need to wear.

We will continue with Swimwear Sunday starting back in early May 2017. The feature has been one I loved doing. It was the first regular swimwear profile we did on UNB. We got some great feedback from readers about it. Exposing guys to amazing swimwear like we do underwear! I think next year we are going to add in you guys more. We want to see you in your swim briefs on the beach/lake/pool. Also, we want you guys to share your favorite pairs as well. What pairs do you want for summer? What will you be wearing over the summer?

We hope you enjoyed the swimwear and will bring you more. Don’t worry, we won’t be ending all swimwear posts. There are going to be plenty released between now and next May. As new pairs come out, we will keep you guys posted on what’s new, hot, and fun.

Interview withThere is a new brand on the scene. We discovered in of all places, Instagram. They did a promoted post and I had to find out more about the brand. I shared it with Salvatore and we were both intrigued. We reached out and found there is a really cool brand with a great story. Salvatore and got the chance to interview the guys at Krakatoa Underwear.

I got the chance to talk a bit through email with Krakatoa and their spirit and enthusiasm shows through. They embody the spirit of the industry. They maybe new comers to the world of underwear.  But they came to make an awesome brand.

Tim: The first question I have to ask when did you guys consider making an underwear line? You said your background was in video games, it doesn’t seem like a likely progression.

Alex: After a game studio I was working on in San Francisco was closed by the VCs that were funding it. I had some time to think what I wanted to do when I grew up. At 50 years old, with almost 30 of those dedicated to computer graphics and video games. I was ready for a change.

One afternoon, after I decided that it was time for some of the scary passion-killer undies I had in my drawers to go to underwear heaven. I got caught staring at an endless wall of black and white pictures of guys in underwear at a large box store. But I couldn’t see anything that was worth my consideration. There was I, facing hundreds of pairs of underwear and nothing was catching my attention. Nothing looked different, new or revolutionary. They were all “familiar” and safe. And the same as they have always been. And I thought, there must be a market for a brand that would take some risks and create underwear for men. That would tweak the existing ideas. Make a cool garment that is dedicated to be the most comfortable underwear possible. And after talking with a lot of guys, listen to their grievances and needs. We found out there is a market

And I thought, there must be a market for a brand that would take some risks and create underwear for men. That would tweak the existing ideas. Make a cool garment that is dedicated to be the most comfortable underwear possible. And after talking with a lot of guys, listen to their grievances and needs. We found out there is a market of underserved guys.

Salvatore: When I look at your products, two words come to mind: sexy and masculine. What are your thoughts about how your undies add this combination to the industry?

Alex: When we designed Krakatoa, we decided that it should be a bit of a wildcard. It should look good and be super comfortable, no matter age or sexual orientation. It’s an underwear for us, guys. All of us. The only thing we would not compromise was comfort. The colors took a while to be designed as well.  We wanted the first 5 colors to be the most popular colors of underwear for men. But we wanted a specific hue of each one. To make them classy and distinguished, rather than flashy or attention grabbing. Even the Krakatoa name on the waistband is off-color and with just a single instance in front. To be discreet but remind you that you are using a premium product. As for being sexy. We had to straddle a fine line. We wanted guys to like it. But wanted women like them too. From some of the reviews of our clients. The satisfaction has been through the roof. Several commented on their significant others loving the look and feel of their family jewels in a Krakatoa.

Cny6LRxUsAAd2sS

Tim: You guys created an anatomical pouch. Why was it so important to you to create your pouch? What has been the feedback on the pouch?

Alex:  The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, to tell you the truth. After I used a couple pairs with a front pouch. I knew I could never wear flat-fronted underwear ever again – and Krakatoa was going to have one. But their designs left much to be desired. Some were just made to make your package look bigger, others just display it without much support. We tested several different designs for the pouch.  We settled on a supportive but spacious shape, that is not too big or prominent. The U-shaped, covered soft stitching around the pouch was engineered not to prop your junk up. Rather to cradle it comfortably without letting a testicle slip to the thighs. We bought dozens and dozens of undies from all over the world to test for the best pouches and cuts. Ours is so far the most comfortable I’ve ever used.

Salvatore: I consider myself the sites pouch snob. So naturally I’m drawn to anatomical pouches. I grew tired of being bound and twisted down there and made the switch. Do you have a personal story that you can share with our readers that led to such a provocative pouch?

Alex: For sure. I receive frequent messages from users, telling me that Krakatoa has literally changed their lives. I was taken aback at first, but there were so many, that I finally saw there was something special going on. One user told me his life was made 50% better instantly since he bought Krakatoa boxer briefs. Because for being overweight, his legs would chafe terribly when walking. Causing his undies would bunch up. But now he had no chaffing and loves how breathable they are, without crawling up his legs. Another said he could never imagine such comfortable underwear existed. He even bought some extra pairs to give to visiting friends, as he wanted them to experience it. All in all, amazing stories.  Every day I hear something new about Krakatoa that makes me realize we still have a lot of

Tim; Your wife questioned the pouch design when you went to post it. What did she have to say about it?

Alex:  When my wife first saw the product pictures I took of Krakatoa on a mannequin. She said “The pouch looks too weird to put on the website”, to what I replied “but that’s our product”. It was there I saw that I would have a steep wall to climb in regards to the look. If we were to make a super comfortable underwear. Some aesthetic compromises were going to happen. And made me understand why some brands look so good in pictures but are horrible to wear.

Tim: What styles are you currently offering and why did you select them?

Alex: We decided to start tinkering with the three more common modern undies: briefs, trunks and boxer briefs. We skipped regular buttoned boxers because we don’t find them comfortable. We believe support and package separation from the thighs is key to a good experience.

We plan to offer different designs in the future. This is the Classic collection. That we will keep offering along new products that are already in the pipeline.

Salvatore: The small logo that is attached to your designs appears to be an upside down brief? How did you come up with your logo? Are you implying that you are about to turn the industry upside down? If so, I like your style!!!!

Alex: You got it! The Krakatoa tag on the side is a volcano/upside-down brief. We came up with Krakatoa because I think guys were ready to move from having a guy’s name on their undies to put a volcano in their pants. You know, eruptions, loud noises, very masculine things. Besides, Krakatoa is a freaking badass volcano.

And our goal is not to make pretty pictures or hang some hunks on posters and try to attract on looks alone. Krakatoa is about the experience. The fact that you can barely feel it under your clothes and that you don’t need to adjust or shuffle all day.

Tim: One thing we spoke about prior was you want all guys, regardless of orientation to be happy in their undies. How are you making this happen? What kind of guys are wearing your underwear?

Alex: You are right, our goal from the start is to make an underwear for everybody. We didn’t want to pigeonhole the brand, but let it just deliver the message. We have pilots, cowboys, techies, movie directors, doctors, lawyers, welders, drivers as users. We have hetero, gay, post-op trans men. We have all the beautiful skin colors wearing it proud.

Salvatore: What led to the uber creative name you have chosen?

Alex: I saw a movie when I was a child about the Krakatoa eruption. That really brought that cataclysmic event to my attention. When coming up with a name for our new brand. We wanted something masculine, powerful, that demands respect, and Krakatoa fit the bill perfectly.

Tim: Which leads me to your slogan, “Put a volcano in our pants.’ How did you guys come up with this slogan?

Alex: After the Krakatoa name was secured. Putting a volcano in our pants became an insider joke quickly. When we told some people about it and their reaction was simply priceless, we decided to trademark it.

Tim: Where can our readers find you and your undies?

Alex: You can find Krakatoa on our website, www.krakatoaunderwear.com or on Amazon.com too. We are thrilled to be interviewed by Underwear News Brief. We appreciate the opportunity to present our product to your incredibly underwear-educated public. Krakatoa is the labor of love of just two guys, and we hope we can bring something special to your audience.

NOTE: We have are going to review the Krakatoa Underwear! We received them and will have them over the next two weeks! After Labor Day!

Well the dynamic duo behind Petit Q has done it again. The cuts, the peak a boos, the strings, flings and things are all back in Petit Q’s new line out now. The new pairs continue to push the edge of erotic underwear. Combining multiple styles, atypical fabrics, and burlesque-esque silhouettes.

Let’s take a look at a few that definitely caught my eye:

The Mini-Trunk Jock (PQ160602) mesh is an interesting take on the jock/thong combo style. It has the leg straps that lift up the cheeks to give any butt a nice bounce. It also has the teasing string that covers…a little bit. However part of the interesting thing is that this is being done in mesh. The (in this case) white mesh pair stands apart from others of a similar styles. This gives it that even more erotic edge. The front part of the pair is pretty gosh darn adorable. It looks like a hip brief or bikini in shape but the pouch has its own piping that gives it a very cool look. If the mesh was dark blue you’d almost have an amazing navy look about the front. Regardless, I love it. It’s definitely one to add to your erotic section.

Now onto the Bikini Rift Splash (PQ160409) and the Bikini Riviera (PQ160410). These cute brief style pairs have the alluring peak-a-boo cuts. That I generally associate with Petit Q. Using the piping as the “waistband” the pair is able to carry the print/color juxtaposition throughout the pair. The dark, solid color contracting with the semi-dark print gives it this sultry. Almost rainforest feel, a little hot, a little humid, a lot erotic. Naturally, the cuts are just enough. Like seeing into an apartment window from the street just as someone is about to disrobe. It’s exciting. This pair stays very true to what first made Petit Q a standout.

The Kini Massalla (PQ160601) is a style I must admit, I have not seen before. The see through material.  Either in black or turquoise (go turquoise) is a seductive feature for the mostly all covered backside. It is the front, however, that really draws the attention on this piece. You will find a pouch to place your package and a thin waistband helping hold up the pair. But otherwise, that’s about all you’ll find. A large pelvic window sits about the pouch on this pair. Once your pants are down, brush, trim or shave won’t be a question one needs to ask. It’s provocative, much like the cuts in the last pair, skin, skin, skin but not…the rest.

There are so many more pairs to see in this latest from Petit Q but these were some early leap outs for me. Check out more and try some on for yourself…or for someone else.

UNDIES ROCKSLazy-river pools, gambling, organic grass-fed stake, cool ass designers, and lots and LOTS of underwear. Sums up my experience in Las Vegas for the 2016 MAGIC convention. The MAGIC convention is a biannual trade show for fashion designers/brands. To feature and build distribution for their products. You can find everything from small entrepreneurial designers. Barely scraping their name in the industry.  To big-name, well-established brands like Levis and Calvin Klein. It is comprised of manufacturers of men’s and women’s apparel, footwear,  and accessories. Of course, we can’t forget the most important category: underwear and swimwear! It’s pretty much a big deal so I am super to stoked to have attended and even more excited to report back to you guys!

MAGIC is a one-stop shop for retail buyers. To survey the wide variety of vendors who are hoping to expand their name. I am not a retail buyer and I wouldn’t say that fashion rules everything around me.  I am just an underwear blogger who received this sweet opportunity to go to Vegas during the work week. To attend something new and fun. My goal for this trip was to speak with all of the men’s underwear brands. Speaking to them on a personal level and pick their brains on their new designs and creative process. This is by far my favorite aspect of blogging. Being able to speak to a plethora of brands in one space and time was pretty damn awesome. I attended the last day of the show. That’s when the brands start to let their hair down.  Have a little more time to chit-chat with friendly bloggers.  I have to say that was exactly the case. I met with 12+ brands and each one had something different and unique to offer.

Speaking with the brands was less of an interview process. It more of an open discussion for all things underwear.  I cannot hate on that. As I spoke to them about the features, materials, and cuts I dig. The brands would respond with just as much enthusiasm. With stories about their trial and errors in design. Also, their process for continued growth and improvement. Some brands even divulged their manufacturing processes, machinery, fabric technologies, and printing techniques with me. Which was super awesome and insightful especially for someone who is constantly doing research and development for a living. One feature that a few brands were a introducing was the keyhole pouch technology. Which essentially makes boxer briefs actually comfortable by completely isolating the package and eliminating the potential for chaffing. This has always been my issue with boxer briefs.  It was interesting to know that many of brands that are marketed online seem like they are larger than life. Making beaucoup amounts of cash.  In reality, they are humble designers operating in a very micro level. With many of the times just themselves running the whole show. Many of the brands that I spoke to were just down to earth cool people. Dishing out their artwork and hustling to make their dreams a reality.

Take note gentlemen, ladies really dig guys who wear comfortable and stylish underwear. Can we all just ditch the juvenile, uncomfortable, “how-is-this-a-good-idea” boxer shorts already? Which brings me to a couple of points:

– Ok, so they come in a 5-pack for $10 but are they really doing you any good? The answer is no, no they are not. Many of the brands are aware that men do not want to spend exuberant amounts of money on underwear. Many of them were featuring rad boxer briefs that are insanely comfy and affordable. $20 for a pair of boxer briefs or any pair of underwear for that matter may seem like a lot. These garments are made of quality fabrics with meticulous construction. The best part is they won’t turn into a disintegrated, wrinkly napkin, after one wash. Like your Hanes counterpart.

– Women are rocking the men’s underwear game! It’s awesome to see that they share the same feelings with the current state of men’s underwear market as I do. These women are dedicating their life’s work to giving men options for flattering, comfortable, and stylish underwear. Yes we too deserve to wear sexy undergarments. I want to pat these women on the backs for pushing the boundaries of social norms. It was awesome to meet a couple brands that are owned/represented by females.

MAGIC is a mecca for all things trending in the fashion industry.  Prior to meeting a brand, the products are just mere objects. There is no personality or humanity to the underwear. These are just items that you add to your cart and proceed to checkout. But being able to speak with and understand the brand’s vision for their product. Brings whole new light and appreciation to mine or anyone’s’ interest in underwear. Some people may think that stylish men’s underwear is a taboo subject to speak about. These designers are so relaxed and casual with sharing their vision for creating comfortable and fashionable underwear with the customer in mind. Simply put, they just dig underwear.  I respect what they do. Especially given how repressed the male figure/underwear scene is in States. It’s nice to know that there are people on the front lines pushing the boundaries of style and comfort. That is exactly what I experienced at MAGIC 2016.

Below are some brand highlights and what to expect to see from them in the near future. Each brand was so awesome and different and I hope to share more in-depth in future posts:

2XIST2

– 2(X)ist www.2xist.com

This was the first vendor I met with and the president, Tom, was just an awesome and passionate dude to speak to. They were a great brand to start the day with. Great people, great products. To me, 2(x)ist is such an iconic brand.  Growing up, I would always see their stuff in the store but couldn’t afford it.  Now that I’m and adult not only can I afford them, but I had the opportunity to meet with the CEO; how great!

Moving into 2016, expect a wide range of new items from 2(x)ist including some sweet and super stylish women’s athletic wear and underwear (my girl was a total fan). duffle bags, socks, and not to mention their impeccable functional and stylish men’s underwear. And new athletic wear for Spring 2017!  One thing that I found interesting during my meeting with Thomas. Was that men’s knit swimwear (square & brief cuts) are taking off.  Congrats gentlemen, it’s about the time I hear this!  Swim briefs are king, and 2(x)ist has some hot new swim briefs, which I know I’ll be getting my hands on.  Overall, great brand, great people.

BWET 2eros Supawear1

– 2eros www.2eros.com

This Australian brand is famous for their fun and interesting prints. That include a beachy- vacation-like vibe, and bright color blocking. Some of their designs include their iconic emblem of the two converging circles that are strategically placed on the butt.  For an enhanced, rounded look. If you are looking for something more muted and classic. Don’t worry because they offer an array of chic briefs, trunks, and swim shorts for the more conservative of hearts. Be sure to check out their underwear too because they are bold and bangin’. Not to mention they have activewear! I met with the lovely Kathy who represents 2eros and a couple other brands which leads me to:

– Supawear www.supawear.com

This brand definitely has a fun vibe that doesn’t take itself too seriously. With their comic superhero references to bold colors and sharp color blocking. It is no doubt that this is a brand with a sense of humor. OH! I cannot mention Supawear without speaking about “Fruitopia.” Their watermelon inspired brief which I need in my life. To fully illustrate the love I have for my favorite summertime fruit.

– BWET www.bwet.com

If you are into bright, bold, color blocking. But don’t want to sacrifice quality for style than this is the brand for you. BWET features “The Portside Collection.” Portside showcases four swimwear identities that are inspired by famous ships… Super nautical, right?! They offer three classic styles. Including the brief, trunks, and shorts to fit any personality and lifestyle. Plus they use cool UV protected material.

Papi 3D Waist

– Papi www.papiinc.com

Ok, so one of my first ever thong purchases was from Papi, so it’s kind of like we go way back. This brand is based out of Miami so many of the designs are inspired but the South Beach culture. They are heavily influenced by its Hispanic Heritage. I am not from Miami nor am I Hispanic. That doesn’t matter because they are dishing out some unique and colorful underwear prints with awesome details in the waistbands. Papi is continuing to “celebrate the spirit, strength, and sex appeal of today’s man.” You gotta love that!

Junk Under Jeans 15

– Junk Underjeans www.junkunderjeans.com

Cool swimwear alert! This brand is known for their masculine boxer briefs and activewear.  They are really dishing out some cool swimwear. Total curve ball, but in the best possible way. For Spring 2017 their swim briefs are showcasing a number of cool patterns. Such as strips and geometric shapes, vibrant gradient colors, unique features such as zippers, dual and waistband.  Lastly fun materials such as Neoprene used for their Hammerhead brief. All of which are saturated with taste and class, which is right up my alley! Oh, and check out their runners! These man leggings look comfy.

Rounder Bum1

– Rounderbum www.rounderbum.com

It was awesome speaking with this brand. Learning about their product since I have never heard of them before. Their representative was awesome enough to sport the product all day long! Must be nice get paid to wear underwear all day. This brand is known for their padded technology (front & rear). To enhance the shapeliness of the butt and package. They are constructed well and give you the option to remove the padding. While still maintaining and awesome fit. You can find these in multi-packs too!

My Package3

– MyPackage www.mypackage.com

This brand is the cool guy of men’s underwear. I do admit that they have an Under Armour vibe to them. They are super stylish but simplistic. In my opinion, are targeted for the younger millennial generation. This brand features ultra lush modal fabric. Pucker paneling to essentially make critical seams disappear. Ergonomic flat locked stitching. No rub tags and the most interesting of features: the keyhole comfort technology. This is a 3-D internal pouch that provides support and comfort by cradling the package. Eliminating the need for adjustments. If you are looking to work out in true effortless cool-guy style, then this is the brand for you.

My Package3

– Playboy Men’s Underwear

This brand was unsuspectedly amazing. I was not expecting the quality of the Playboy underwear to be nearly as impeccable as it actually was. They exclusively feature seamless construction with the use of nylon and spandex. The seamless underwear is awesome. Seeing it  and being able to speak to Dilson, the VP of marketing and sales about the manufacturing process was super insightful. To say the least its quite process oriented and requires a lot of infrastructure. These guys know what they are doing and expect awesome stuff from them. The construction of these underwear is just immaculate. With careful thought in making them comfortable and practical. They feature the classic boxer brief, brief and trunk that come in awesome colors and patterns.

2UNDR1

– 2UNDR www.2undr.com

This was another brand that featured the keyhole, or as they call it, the “Joey Pouch.” This pouch is designed to fit your entire package to deliver the perfect fit. It prevents unwanted skin contact. They also use the “No-Drip-Tip” technology to help maintain optimal body temperature while promoting accelerated moisture evaporation for added comfort. If briefs aren’t your cup of tea and prefer to wear boxer briefs than you need to check this brand out. 2UNDR features four total designs suited for any lifestyle including: the Dayshift for compression, the Swingshift for quick drying, the Gearshift for a silky fell and pill resistance, and the Powershift for ultra-durability. Interesting enough the brand name 2UNDR is derived from the owner’s love of being on a bike; 2 wheels under your legs.  Expect fun patterns and prints for Spring 2017 collection.

Jack Adams1

– Jack Adams www.jackadamsusa.com

“Defined by the man who wears it” is this brands motto and could not be any truer for underwear enthusiasts. This is a brand that has always This brand features the top fly versus the conventional and uncomfortable side fly.

Eugenes1

– Eugene’s www.eugenesonline.com

This was a brand that was not originally on my list but I am happy to have met with the designer Clay. Based out of Georgia, this is a brand that is taking comfort to the mainstream by taking classic styles. Pairing them with the luxurious feel of a modal fabric. They are dishing out cool apparel too that includes modal u-neck t-shirts, tank tops, crew necks, and v-neck. They offer the classic boxer briefs, boxers, and runners. Most importantly, these guys are offering plus sizes! How cool is that? Everyone deserves to wear comfy and stylish underwear. It’s refreshing to see a brand think outside the box and make this happen for your bigger-boned buddies!

Gregg7

– Gregg Homme www.gregghomme.com

This is a brand well known for their iconic fetish pieces. But don’t worry because anyone can find something that they like from his vast array of products. If you are looking for something a little out of the ordinary but sexy, then you need to visit this website. It was interesting to find out that their products are still manually sewn by seamstresses in their home-base of Canada. Some interesting features to their underwear includes cockrings, and a pseudo version of the keyhole pouch. Need something leather, sheer, lacy, stringy, or barely there? Then you need to check out Gregg Homme.

Wood2

– Wood www.woodunderwear.com

Female Designer Teresa Zimmerman has gracefully helped evolve the tighty-whitie loving men. Into discretely stylish and sexy underwear enthusiasts. She has developed a brand that features simple yet stylish briefs, trunks, and apparel. That includes a handsome Henley, V-necks and drawstring lounge shorts.  Most importantly, she has recently introduced the thong style to her collection. Be sure to check that out for Spring 2017! Her designs, patterns, and colors are inspired by nature (hence the literal brand name with an innuendo touch) as well as collegiate color influences.

– Saxx Underwear www.saxxunderwear.com

This brand is well known for their paneled fabric hammock that separates the package from the legs. To eliminate any uncomfortable chaffing. This is a brand that focuses on the athletic lifestyle in mind. Their products range from running and training shorts to compression items. One thing I enjoy about this brand is that their marketing materials feature’s men and women. Since there is such a social stigma on men’s stylish underwear. Especially in the United States. I think this is a great way of introducing and enticing the heterosexual males to become more open minded about trading their uncomfortable and dated underwear. For something that looks and feels good.

Hey, Fetish Friday readers, how have you been doing? Last week’s post got me trying to expand my personal fabric choices (from just spandex and leather). I have been deliberately searching for more materials that I am not usually around. For instance, at a new play date’s house, I tried on a latex brief. It was kind of an odd brief because there was some weird pouch situation but it was pretty cool. Not sure I’d get all decked out in it, but maybe owning a brief is in my future. I went to Mr. S Leather’s website to search for some of their other stuff and low and behold…

RubberizedPlayJock1

Today, I am featuring the Rubberized Play Jock by Mr. S Leather. So Mr. S Leather does a lot of cool fabrication. This jock was designed by Timoteo (another company we are very friendly with over here) for Mr. S. Timoteo makes really sexy gear. That kind of hits on the sporty fetish wear team, as well as just being super macho and fantastic. Knowing that these two superpower companies got together to make this jock. It gets me thinking, it’s probably incredible (I’m gonna buy one and let you all know how it goes).

The Rubberized Play Jock is…well all rubber. The pouch is 2 layers of sexy rubber cradling your junk, and then you have ONE INCH (1”!) booty straps to lift and support your posterior. That is a LOT of support. In addition, there are D-rings on either side of the front pouch to attach certain harnesses too. You can make it into a full body outfit (well… a skimpy outfit, but still).

RubberizedPlayJock2

The jock comes in black, with the trim/stripes being Blue, White, Red or Yellow. This color is the trim on the edges of the pouch, and the stripes down the front of the pouch. As well as stripes on the butt straps, and the waistband. The Mr. S Leather logo on the waistband is also in the selected color.

RubberizedPlayJock3

Now, aside from this being rubber for looking super slick. The benefit of this rubber play jock is that it can handle virtually ANY fluid (I’m sure it can’t handle supervillain-style burning acid, but if you’re playing with that…um, you probably expect things to be burning). Anything you pour/splash/shoot onto this jock will wipe right off with a little soapy water. Done! Good as new. So you really can do all the things, and not demolish the state of your gear.

I’m super excited to hopefully get to try this guy out. If any of you already own it, please let me know. We can chat. It is available exclusively at Mr. S Leather . Sizes 28”-36” waist (S-XL). $37.95. Make it happen you sexy deviant!

Until next time, keep it kinky.

TtheAmazing, over and out!

perfecting comfort in men's undies

Salvatore and UnderwearDude are going to discuss key ingredients to comfortable undies!

Salvatore:

Commando is an option that plenty of men go with nowadays. I personally feel so sexy in underwear that I only go commando when in the shower. That makes the need for comfortable fitting undies a premier need in my life. I don’t want to pay over $20 for something that doesn’t fit well. I want to experience the comfort I’ve grown to love in the hundreds of pairs of great undies that I’ve purchased over the years day in and day out. That comes with an understanding of what to look for in a brief.

What do you consider the top 3 or 4 categories to look for when selecting comfortable underwear?

UnderwearDude:

I can’t imagine going commando either. I’m so used to wearing underwear all my life, it just feels plain weird to go without. You also lose a great way to express yourself. But on the question at hand.

Sex appeal can matter greatly, in my opinion. I feel like there are quite a few pairs that are meant to look great but aren’t up to the task to be worn all day, at least without being annoying. So if a pair looks like it would be found on a stripper, I keep a note in the back of my mind that I have to remember that I’m probably spending a lot for money for something I won’t wear often. I’ve got some fantastically fun and sexy pairs that just stay in the back of the drawer because of how ill suited they are for daily wear.

I’m pretty flexible when it comes to material, waistband thickness, etc. Unless its got like mesh lace or a pouch that won’t fit I don’t have any real big preferences when it comes to comfort.

Specific to bikinis when it comes to comfort, I pay close attention to the size of the backs. I don’t really have much of a rear end, that can’t keep the smaller backs that come on some bikinis in place. If I wanted a wedgie, I’d just wear a thong! So instead I look for pairs with a fuller back, despite the lack in sex appeal.

I’ve noticed that some of the major labels have increased their efforts, or at least the advertising thereof, of producing more comfortable pairs.

Do you think that a truly comfortable pair can only come from a pricy brand?

Salvatore:

Great question! I think the first thing we have to delineate is the definition of an expensive brand. I used to think $10 a pair was expensive. Then it went to $20 and then $30. For me, the $30 a pair category is too much to pay for a pair of underwear. Thank goodness that brands put their designs on sale! Others may be at the $10 a pair price point. At any rate, I would unequivocally state that you get what you pay for.

I have enjoyed some of the pricier brands of men’s underwear over the years. I usually bought them through a discount retailer on or on closeout as a new line emerged for release. Funny this is—I keep finding more and more the perfect fit. For instance, Cut-2-Fit, a UK brand that custom makes undies, makes your pants (British for underwear) according to your exact measurements and desires for cuts and fabrics. You can’t go wrong with this. Their underwear will run you about $20 USD per pair. This isn’t bad considering they do a custom design (complete with drawings) and have your exact measurements (waist, penis, scrotum, and legs). You can’t go uncomfortable with custom.

I am also enjoying the fact that some of the big names are creating the same great underwear for the economical budget. Andrew Christian recently released the Basic Line. The briefs are only $10 and you get the same greatness of Andrew Christian’s premium lines—anatomical pouch, super soft waistband, and very nice fabrics. Couple that with the brands 25% off (currently running) and you have awesome designer underwear for $7.50. You can’t beat that.

One of my favorite designs goes back to the early 1990s. Hanes made a super soft line of bikini briefs. The pouch was larger than normal. I bought a set of three for $8 when I was 13 or 14. Granted, I do not shop for underwear at Wal-Mart any longer. However, the potential for a great design is always there in non-designer brands.

There are a couple of brands emerging that I encourage everyone to check out. They use super soft modal and have put a lot into the design of their underwear to include multi-way stretch fabric, slimming waistbands, and precision cut leg openings. The two brands I am thinking of are Krakatoa and Big Boys. The best part, both brands are under the $20 price point.

All in all, you can get what you desire if you are willing to shop around. Why settle for average. Go for the best.

You talked a little about seat coverage in your underwear and mentioned how that might diminish sex appeal. Can you tell me more about why you are looking for a full seat? What do full seats do for sex appeal?

UnderwearDude

My preference for bikinis with a more full-sized back has more to do with my body than my opinions on sex appeal. Smaller backs just don’t tend to fit well for me. I have the opposite of a “Bubble Butt”, which ironically can have similar problems when it comes to the back facing side of underwear. If you’ve got the rear for it, why not wear a pair with a smaller sized back.

Those of us who are well versed in the realm of upscale men’s underwear don’t balk at a $20 per pair price, but not most guys. I recently saw one of the bestselling pairs on amazon (Boxer-briefs, as you might expect) on sale for $15 by a sales site. They mention, “That’s still pricey for a single pair of underwear, but reviewers say it’s worth it.” Note that this isn’t the first time I’ve seen this pair mentioned on this site, always with this caveat. It makes me wonder how different our views must be from the average male.

Do you think that buying better brands, or at least decent ones, will eventually become the norm?

Salvatore:

I equate the upper eschelons of men’s underwear brands to how a woman buys a bra. I recently explained this to my wife. It seemed to click to her. She knows that she can’t buy a bra for $10 at discount store and expect to get the same quality as what Victoria’s Secret puts out. She also knows that the best quality comes from high end brands normally sold in upper end department stores or specialty shops (the kind you get measured for before they will sell it to you.

Men’s underwear is the same way. I recently had this discussion with my father-in-law. He couldn’t fathom paying $20 for a single pair of underwear when he can get the exact same thing at Wal-Mart in a package of 3 for $15. The only way I convinced him was to get him in a pair of Obviously trunks with the fully anatomical pouch. It took him all of ten minutes to decide that the price difference is wort hit. He now consults with me before he buys new underwear.

With that said, how do you think we underwear experts can do our part to get men to try out premier lines for the sake of their crown jewels?

 UnderwearDude:

I think it’s gotta come gradually. There are a lot of brands, such as Mack Weldon, Tommy John, and Saxx that market themselves towards the average guy. They are all still small brands, but making headway. A few months ago, Mack Weldon sold their millionth pair! I don’t think every guy is going to be adventurous enough to try a skimpy pair, but I’d be totally happy if even the basic boxer brief was a little better. I also think by promoting and buying from brands we can hope to push the big name brands to put out better products. Competition makes for better products, right?

Which smaller brand(s) do you think is or will have the most impact on bringing more comfortable underwear into the mainstream, or at least push the big brands to up their game?

Salvatore

There are two brands on my radar currently that are upping the ante for the everyday guy. Big Boys Pants out of the UK and Krakatoa from the West Coast. Both are using really high end fabrica and elastics to give the normal guy a little something extra to slip into for work , the gym, or anything really.

What I appreciate about both of these companies is that their price points are below the standard luxury brand for the same high quality we’ve come to expect. They make fabulous looking underwear at a reasonable price. In fact, they both have me experimenting with trunks and boxer briefs—something I never thought would be comfortable.

With that, we’ll call this Brief Talk a wrap. Whether you’re looking for something skimpy, full seated, or mesh, comfort plays a big part in everyday wear. Keep coming back to UNB to hear the latest news and information about the male underwear industry and for Comfort’s Sake, buy new underwear regularly!
