Are you going to IML? If you are and reading this, you really love gear. I bet most of you aren’t making the trek and won’t be going. If you are unfamiliar, IML is International Mr. Leather. A gathering of men in leather and gear to gather and have fun over the Memorial Day weekend. And yes they do pick a new Mr. International Leather. If you’re going to IML, I”m sure your gear has been picked out for months. If you are going for a quick visit or want to get some gear where do you go?

One company is Cellblock 13. It’s a great starter brand for gear. It’s a mix of the look of leather, neoprene, and spandex. The Cyber X-Treme line is perfect for first-timers. It’s a harness and a jock or short. They feature “an inbuilt ‘Jock Armour’ cock ring, a removable cod piece pouch and a rear zip detail so is designed for pure pleasure whichever way you want it. Made from a soft printed stretch nylon, spandex blend. The pouch removes on both and the zipper in the back is just on the short.”

If you are a fan of zippers then the Octane line is one you need to explore, Especially the singlet. The singlet is “made of a sleek and stretchy coated polyurethane/spandex to mimic both the look of leather and the touch of spandex. This singlet is designed to hug and stretch enough to show off your crevices and bulges to perfection. The functional zipper down the front of the pouch provides easy access.”

There is plenty more to Timoteo’s Cellblock 13. But, I think it’s one of the best fetish brands out there. They are constantly updating the line and producing amazing new gear. If you need more suggestions feel free to reach out! We will share more fetish brands.

I’m not the biggest thong fan on UNB. I do have quite a few of them but they aren’t my daily pair I choose to wear. I usually wear them when I”m feeling super sexy or have a reason to wear them. My go-to style has always been the bikini brief or pouch brief. When I think back to when I got my first thongs. I’m trying to remember the very first pair I bought.

I remember seeing a brand in the 80’s in one of the fitness magazines. Either Exercise for Men Only or Men’s Workout or there was another back in the day. There was a brand called, I think, Michael David. They had a guy in a yellow brief with what looked to be a black thong over it. My 18-year-old mind had to have one. I had to find one. This was the days before the internet so getting one would be difficult. Plus I didn’t have a credit card to buy the one I saw in the magazine.

One a trip to Rich’s (which became Macy’s), I would always hit the underwear section before going to the bookstore down the mall. There on the shelf was a black thong. Just what I imagined was in the picture. I already had a yellow swim brief. I could recreate the look. I grabbed my sized and walked up to the counter and bought it. Being so excited I skipped the bookstore and drove straight home. The 20-minute drive was killing me. I ran to my room and put it on. I liked it and then did the look with the swim brief. I was in heaven.

There was one problem with that thong the strap in the back was way too wide and annoyed me throughout the day. This would delay any other thong purchases for a while. That was until I started to work out. I joined a gym way away from where I lived and would rarely go. But it was open 24 hours and I wanted something fun to wear. Another store across from the mall had more spandex, swimsuit type of thongs. I went over and bought 1 and tried it out. I loved the fit and feel. Especially at the gym. I was bold enough to change in plain view of anyone in the locker room, I didn’t care. The brands of these thongs were Sauvage. Which I know they don’t make anymore.

Then I went back to buy 2-3 more and told the guy working that I wore them to the gym and we had a conversation about them for about 10 mins. Looking back he was gay too and I think wanted to pick me up. I was so clueless back then on when I was being hit on. But I kept wearing them to the gym.

As of today I still have quite a few thongs. The one thong that brought me back to wearing them after I was a teen was the 2(X)ist Y-Back Thong. It was amazing and I still have several of these in my collection. Other favorites now are Joe Snyder Pride Frame, Gregg Homme Torrid line, and Cocksox CX05 thong.

This coming weekend in the states marks the official start of swim season.  Memorial Day is time to head to the nearest beach, pool or lake for some fun in the sun. We bring our challenge back every year. This year we are kicking off the Swim Brief & Thong challenge. One of these years it won’t be something we will have to promote, well that is my goal.

There are two different challenges, the first is the Swim Brief Challenge. This is our 4th year, I think, challenging guys to wear the classic swim brief or bikini. When we started this challenge the brief was one of those pairs that very few guys have worn. Over the last few years more guys are starting to wear them. I would like to think we were a little bit responsible for some of you out there wearing them.

Next is the Swim Thong challenge. This one took me a little by surprise. I was not expecting guys to totally skip the swim brief and more directly to the thong. It’s awesome. While not my favorite pair to wear as swimwear, I fully support those who want to rock a thong on the beach, a pool or lake. I say you do you and wear what ever the hell you are comfortable in, where ever you are.

You don’t have to be gay to take part in either challenge. You can be gay, straight or bi. We welcome all to UNB and want all guys to wear their style of swimwear. An article of clothing does not define your sexuality. If someone sees you in either style and say GAY. They just aren’t man enough to wear them. They lack the confidence you have! So on that note “Fuck ’em!” We are always here to support all underwear lovers EVERYWHERE.

Are you in the market for a new jock? Martin our Video reviewer is and has posted about it on his Instagram. Hopefully, we will be able to get him in one of these soon. One new pair from N2N Bodywear is the Mercury Jock! It was part of their Feature Friday Sale this past week and I LOVE this pair!

This is an update on the jock, N2N style! You know that Andrew at N2N doesn’t just make any jock, but he makes a “sexy ass” jock! Their site uses those words and I felt it was totally appropriate. The pair has the matte athletic mesh pouch. Which is not a new fabric to them, mesh that is! The back leg straps are bigger than I would have thought but it adds to the sexy factor to me. Each strap has the N2N Logo on one strap and “Made in California” on the other.

There is one important thing to know about this pair. Chlorine bleach, oil (lube, suntan lotion, baby oil, etc) may break down the special matte coating of this novelty fabric. Notice the things that will break down the fabric. So plan accordingly for all your activities while wearing this jock. And if you think, “oh one time won’t hurt the jock,” Well don’t come crying to me when it’s damaged. This one will require special care when wearing and washing. Don’t say you weren’t warned

I am still trying to get N2N to let me know about the new collections they will be released throughout the year. Don’t worry I will find out and will get with them very soon! Because I want to know just as bad as you guys do! I do know there won’t be a large collection released at once.

COLORS: Black
FABRIC: 92% Polyester / 8% Spandex
SIZES: Small – X-Large
COST: $34.00

The whole nude fashion thing is waning when it comes to clothing but men who appreciate the combination of invisibility and support provided by nude tone men’s underwear are still buying. The UK’s leading male underwear and swimwear website Deadgoodundies.com sees a peak in sales when the sun shines. Their tips on going nude-but-not-naked are interesting: (1) a darker tone can ‘disappear’ more effectively than a paler shade under white clothing (2) wearing the right size is crucial because lumps and bumps give away the secret underlayer (3) this summer there’s nude swimwear for men – an interesting concept and DGU challenge you to match your tan perfectly, then watch the raised eyebrows!

The Greeks know a thing or two about looking good and getting all but naked – this new arrival is essential if you want to take up DGU’s Match Your Tan challenge. (This nude is offered with three pouch colours, also in a micro brief)

MODUS VIVENDI NUDE SWIM LOW CUT BRIEF £34.00

The original featherweight thong from HOM, updated, is still a best seller – along with the micro brief and trunk also offered in Skin, a pale tone – are always in stock at DGU. This male string underwear is especially popular on stage and screen, but you’d never know…

HOM NEW PLUME G-STRING £17.00

For men who favour natural fabrics this option, also available as a string, combines cotton and modal in a slightly deeper shade. And 1281 is THE bestselling micro shape from this collection, offered in a dozen colours and at a great price.

DOREANSE 1281 MICRO BRIEF £7.00

A recent return to DGU by L’Homme Invisible includes this nude tone, which is a little more creamy, on a stunningly soft Sensitive microfibre brief.

L’HOMME INVISIBLE SEXY BACK SLIP £34.00

This male slip is super low rise but still high leg, with good butt cover. And a great cosmetic shade for underpants beneath pale, lightweight clothing. It’s 95% cotton too so comfy for hot weather.

MODUS VIVENDI ANTI BACTERIAL LOW CUT BRIEF £18.00

One of several nude options from the famously sexy Joe Snyder collection from Mexico. Good cover, excellent shape, total jiggle avoidance.

JOE SNYDER BULGE 03 ENHANCEMENT BOXER £20.00

I hope you guys have been listening to the rebooted UNB Brief Talk Podcast. It’ been since 2012 since we last recorded. I have thought about bringing it back several times but never got around to doing it. Now that it’s back, I have been brainstorming to come up with ideas for the show. I want to try to do at least one a month if not two. But we need some great content to talk about and have a group of great guys to talk undies.

UNB is about celebrating our love of undies no matter if you’re gay, straight, bi or even a woman! We welcome all to learn about better underwear! So here is a quick poll, you know I love them, about what you want to hear. Also feel free to write in your own topics too! I’m working on the next episode as we speak.

Two recent UNB reviewers, Martin Taylor & Andrew Sullivan, jumped on an Atlantis cruise out of San Juan to the Southern Caribbean. They spent the week relaxing by the pool and dancing their nights away, all the while sending us some photos of their super fun outfits and swimwear. After some reviews and social media posts, we’ve had so many readers ask about the cruise that we’ve conducted a Q&A with Martin about his experience.

Q: Why did you go on the cruise?
A: This was actually our second cruise with Atlantis. We go for a couple of reasons. The primary reason is the environment. There’s nothing quite like being comfortable in your own skin when you vacation. As gay men, this is very hard for us in more traditional vacation hot spots, or where we run the risk of being around families. On the ship, you’re surrounded by thousands of gay men, of all ages and backgrounds, who are there for the same reason as you- to have fun, relax, and act and, most importantly, dress however you want. We also work very hard on our health, and have a bit of a gear/underwear fetish…so we like being able to show that off and dance.
Q: What gear did you get from UNB?
A: UNB provided us with some fantastic white harnesses and underwear from Garcon Model- which came in really handy for the white party. We also received swimwear that we rocked on the ship from Garcon Model. UNB also sent us some Cocksox swimwear, whichise very revealing yet comfy, that my husband, Andrew, wore a lot. They were by far his favorite pair. You can see photos on his IG- @andrewjs87 or at check out his review at UNB.
Q: Talk a bit about the creation of costumes and you’re favorite of the cruise.
A: Well…it was a lot. There are several official theme dances and a couple of unofficial. I was everything from a teenage mutant ninja turtle to an almost naked cowboy with nothing but a bandanna tied around my junk. My goal is to be virtually as nude as possible but still make very obvious references. Other people take it a lot more serious and construct some pretty magnificent costumes…makes one wonder how much luggage they had to bring. My favorite costume was probably either my custom white part outfit made by our friends Devin and Sal (cruise queens) or the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume- the bottoms were blue Garcon Model swim briefs.
Here’s a list of my costumes:
  • White Party- 1st look: White harness with white mesh jock and white garter. 2nd look: Garcon Model white and gold harness and matching underwear.
  • Out there Space Theme: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle
  • Call of the Wild Theme: Boy Scout
  • Classic Disco: Our group did The Village People…I was the cowboy.
  • Dog Tag: We were sailors
Q: How much fun it was to be in an environment where it’s  encouraged to wear undies in public?
A: Umm…way fun. I basically wore a mesh jock or a thong the entire time. I like to show off my booty. But seriously, as gay men, we spend a lot of our lives hiding…at least that was my experience. This cruise and environment allows us to celebrate our body, our sexuality, and our unique cultural experience. And you don’t have to look like superman…I know i don’t. There are all body types out on the dance floor and most are in undies/scantily clad costumes. It’s fun.
Q: You’re going on another cruise, how early are you planning your gear?
A: Next March, same cruise. We absolutely love it. We’ve already started planning. White Party is the big event, and i’m thinking a full-body reference to a black and white photo…in a jock of course

It’s Swimwear Sunday! And this is our first swim thong of the season. The George Swim thong is brand new as of this week. BodyAware released it. It’s a different design from regular and skimper thongs and I thought it would make a great Swimwear Sunday pair!

The George Swim Thong has a really fun impressionist print. It’s not one I would expect to see in swimwear but I really love the pair! From the front, it looks like a swim brief with a black waistband but around back it’s a thong. It also has something a lot of thong swimsuits don’t have, a drawstring waistband. Most sim thong has just an elastic band. This could be a make or break for some guys. To me, it doesn’t bother me either way.

As I mentioned the back has a sculpted thong back and a brilliant sunshine yellow inner line. The back is made to enhance the look of your assets while wearing the pair. As you can see in the pic above it does a great job. This design I think would be a great first pair of swim thongs. The front is definitely flattering to many body types. Myself, a bigger guy, I would feel more comfortable wearing this pair than other pairs.

Lastly is the price, at $26 it’s very affordable for guys wanting to get a swim thong. Also, being from Bodyaware it’s going to be good quality for your money. I don’t think you will be disappointed with your purchase. I’m actually thinking of getting a pair for myself.

COLORS: Print as seen
FABRIC: 80% nylon/20% spandex
SIZES: Small – XX Large
COST: $25.95

Did you read that right? YES, you did! The Evolve brand made by 2(X)IST has made a line of swim briefs and square cut swimwear for Target. I was told by Phillip a part-time writer and swim brief fan about the line. I also saw several friends post the “I’m a guy and I wear speedos” Facebook page, showing Walmart has board shorts and Target has swim briefs.  This really is a major thing that a retailer of this size is investing in the swim brief

Before you rush out to your local Target to shop the styles, it’s in a very few select stores. That’s the downside. It’s in very few stores and I would assume it’s in LA, NYC, Chicago, Miami and the like. In Atlanta, there were no stores that carried any of the styles. I saw one pair in a store in NYC. But, still, it’s a good thing that we hope will roll out to more stores

The next amazing thing is the price. The swim briefs are all $19.99. Yes, you heard that price right, just 20 bucks. For swimwear, this is an amazing price. Swimwear can range from the 20’s to well over 100 dollars. I think this would be an amazing first swim brief. Because of the price makes it very approachable to most guys. Second, there are more than just solids. It comes in several prints as well. You can go conservative or just have some fun with prints. Lastly, if they sell in stores it will be easy to get. Most stores now have self-checkouts so you can grab your swim brief, head to the self-checkout and no will know you bought one!

It’s awesome that Target is taking a risk like this and making swim briefs for the masses. I told people many years ago we will have a resurgence of the style. In the 80’s it was acceptable to wear and then went out of fashion. Now, we will see the popularity of the pair grow. If you go to the Target site search for evolve swimwear. There isn’t a landing page for the brand…yet.

So I was in my neighborhood Target store recently, and on a whim, I decided to check out the underwear section. Last time I went I had been disappointed in the available selection and was presently surprised to see that they had revamped the area, with a few new options. I picked up the kind that looked the skimpiest. Surprising, right?

The micro mesh is not like it’s more risqué cousin regular mesh. The pairs are covered in small holes, which themselves are further subdivided by very thin thread into quarters, leaving a mesh fabric that isn’t too revealing. I’d compare it to Cin-2’s Zen line or 2xit’s own Sliq line if you are familiar with either of those.

Speaking of comparisons, I’d like to take a moment to see how this pair compares to other big name brief brands in my collection. Just how skimpy/unskimpy is it really? I compared it to some other 2xist briefs that I own, and while the leg opening hight is about the same on all of the pairs the evolve is a little bit bigger than the rest. So unless you feel that 2Xist’s main lines of briefs are too skimpy, if you are looking for small briefs you are better off elsewhere. The white stripes on the sides on the hips are a nice touch. These pairs are tagless too, and even though they are micro-mesh, the front is double layered so there’s no need to worry about showing off too much. Another positive is the price point. At only $12.99 US before tax, it wouldn’t be too costly to get a weeks worth of pairs for the same price as a couple designer name pairs instead. So there is some to like about these briefs.

Sadly, there are more than a few issues I have with the design. First, I am not a fan of the intermediate style waistband. It is too small to effectively grasp like a large waistband, nor does it give the pair a sleek look like on a pair without a waistband. I really don’t like this trend and hope it goes away. Also, The look of it is a little bit meh..but I am biased towards skimpier pairs, and this is marketed towards a mass audience of which this will probably be the skimpiest thing they have ever worn.

2xist had several other varieties in this new Evolve line, including cotton bikinis, and trunks, including some labeled under the Sliq line. If you guys are interested, I will continue to try these new lines from 2xist. Overall, it’s not great, but it’s not horrible either. Comfortable, with some perks, but nothing exceptional about them.

Still, the fact that this partnership between 2xist and Target persists is a good sign, no matter how good the product is. It points to a sign that men are starting to want more than the bare bones basics that have usually been pedaling in the past. It points to major retailers identifying this trend and making moves to try and get that market. Getting better underwear into more mad marketplaces at an affordable price point is a win in my book.

That’s one of our goals here at UNB, to get guys into good underwear no matter what the style. If you like the look of them, give it a try. About $7 per pair after tax is a good deal, and besides their questionable looks, they are reliably comfortable. Do you want us to review more styles from the Evolve line or other new semi-upscale brands that have begun to pop up in mass-market retailers like Target? Let us know in the comments below!

As always, if you have any comments or questions, you can find me on twitter at @underweardude .

Silk and lace are two materials that guys are loving. One brand that I saw on Instagram, which has been a hot bed for discovering new brands, is SULIS. Their silk designs really spoke to me and I knew that I had to cover the brand. Before I could even reach out they emailed us this about their brand. I”m super excited about this brand and hope we can score some reviews of the brand very soon. I hope you guys will check out this brand!

British manufacturer Sulis use fine silk satins and high-quality lace to make unique boxers and briefs for men who desire more from their underwear.

Underwear for men isn’t boring anymore. It’s easier than ever to find something more comfortable, practical and sexy than the traditional cotton Y-fronts or loose shorts. Sulis bring lace and silk to the table, to create pieces that are exciting, elegant and comfortable.

The collection started with the silk lace touch brief, launched in 2016. A simple and comfortable “seamless-front” design in black or sable overlaid with a dramatic and robust baroque-inspired embroidered lace.

Director Duncan Faulkner says: “We thought it looked great, but it was an experiment really. The feedback from our customers has been really positive, so we have expanded the collection for this season.”

The latest designs of pure silk briefs are created from a rich palette of cranberry, navy, sable or purple. Luxurious panels of semi-sheer lace allow teasing glimpses of the skin beneath.

The collection also includes the stretch lace sided boxer. A supportive fitted boxer brief with a front and full seat in storm grey stretch silk satin (91% silk, 9% elastane) and legs made with a matching soft stretch lace.

All the collections are designed and made at the independent company’s studios near Bath, England and are available in sizes S to XXL.

4 Hunks is introducing their very first thong! The company known for jocks and sports-inspired gear designed their first super fun thong. It’s called the Swing Thong. As you can see from the picture it has an ample pouch designed to fit the guys who need a bit more room in the front. In fact, they say “This is the perfect Thong to show off and tease guys with your massive tool!”

We got a chance to ask them about this thong:

I wanted to design a piece that really gives an impression. For that, I thought I need to give a good push from the bottom. So I constructed the pouch pattern upside down. Starting from the bottom to the top. It pushes everything to the top and front. I feel like it’s my duty to improve underwear.

When asked about this design, they told us they thought they could make the design of a thong more manly and sexy. I will say that they achieved this pairing. It’s a pair you can wear and show off in at the same time. I think they took on this challenge and succeded in making it pretty awesome.

As I have said 4 Hunks mixes some of my favorite things. Sportswear, spandex, underwear, and fetishwear. They called the mash up Sportishwear. Which I think is the appropriate terminology for their gear! This new thong is a great addition to their line up. You can also wear it with their harnesses and other gear.

If a pouch is important to you in a thong this is a must-have pair for you. It’s the first of many thongs I hope we will see from 4 Hunks. Each time they produce something new I am impressed!

aussieBum Thongs

I’ve been a bit on the busy side lately and just recently got back to check out what is new at aussieBum. To my surprise, they’ve added two new lines with thongs in it. This is the first I’ve seen a thong from them, but I’ve been told they did offer them before. I’m a fan of the no elastic waistband so both of these appeal to me. Both thongs have a fairly sleek look. The two lines with thongs are the Skin Nude and CU. The lines also have what they call the exposed brief too.

The Skin Nude line comes in the colors skin (probably could call it nude) and black. Here’s what aussieBum say about the Skin Nude line “Comfort comes as standard with a silky smooth second skin feels.” The thong is a pretty traditional looking cut with fairly narrow looking sides. The exposed brief has the regular centered seamed pouch, but the thong has a bit different stitching. The bottom two-thirds has the typical centered seam pouch look then the top is stitched horizontal on to it. The picture shows it better than I can describe it. This line is made of 85% nylon and 15% elastance. They can be machine washed cold, but should be hung to dry.

The CU line was inspired by the Skin one. It is a limited edition line, so get them before they are gone. The thong and exposed brief are made of a blend of 90% nylon and 10% lycra or could be 85% nylon and 15% lycra. They state it differently in the description and garment care. This line mentions hand washing but does say gentle wash cold too. Does need to be hung to dry. The CU line is available in the traditional colors of white or black.

It’s nice to see them giving an option to the thong wearers to their line. Hopefully, they can keep them around and add more to their offering.
