Review: SLY Underwear Boxer Brief

There are so many amazing underwear manufacturers coming out of Australia.  I was extremely curious and excited to have an opportunity to evaluate a recent boxer brief released by SLY Underwear.  To add some context around SLY, the company focuses on three primary themes for their underwear; work, play, and rest.  The intent is to offer underwear to fit your lifestyle and therefore accommodate the needs of hard working, party loving guys that also appreciate quality and comfort.

This particular pair titled “picnic green” falls within their work category due to the construction and fit of the boxer.  The classic boxer brief is designed to help prevent the boxer from riding up and is accomplished by adding elastic around the leg.  The materials consist of a 9% cotton and 5% elastane blend along with a nylon/elastane waistband.

As shown in the picture, the print is a two toned lattice green design, which is perfect for spring.  I’ll have to say…I’m not a fan of the mint green color, which reminds me on of the linoleum tile in my grandmother’s kitchen.  Honestly, they should have taken this to a darker color as I don’t see too many guy…straight or gay…appreciating this particular shade.  Perhaps a different primary color like blue, black, or red would have worked much better.  Another feature includes a pocket on the right leg, but I fail to see the practicality of incorporating this on any underwear.  After all, how many guys do you know sport a condom or iPod on the outside of their underwear?

These are extremely comfortable, however, well-constructed and provide a high quality of materials and definitely represent high end, fashionable underwear.  I wore these all day and not once found them uncomfortable or even realized I was wearing a boxer brief.  While I’m not excited about the design, I was impressed by their website and would encourage you to check it out for their latest styles and designs as they have a lot to offer.

UNB Survey and Winners

We want to thank the guys who answered the reader survey. We got some really great info from you guys. We have e-mailed the guys selected to win the Baskit Underwear. I will say it’s never easy to hear the negatives, but in order to improve you must hear them and address the issues.

Some of the changes we are going to implement are:

  • More in depth info from Magic/Curve – It was a common suggestion that we get more info from the shows about new lines/brands coming out. That is something we will be doing more in depth with videos, podcasts and posts on the site. We are getting more and more brands involved.
  • Reviews are too positive – I have heard this from the beginning but I try to match the guy with the right pair. I don’t want a boxer brief lover to review a thong. However, that said, I do see how it is perceived and we had on the survey last year as well. In reviews going forward we will put in a Pro/Con list in ever review. Even in a great pair there is always something we don’t like.
  • Sizing info – If we had one big consistant request is sizing. How did it fit in review, is it true to size and etc. This is something we will put in reviews and in posts from now on and keep it consistant.
  • More info on site pages – This is one that really struck me and I thought, wow you are right. One person said we take time to really do the site well but other pages on the site are not developed. I thought and agreed about that. We are going to update our links, where to buy (send in any suggestions), Put up model and photographer bios, and a few more things.
  • Design issues – Site design was a common theme as well. There were guys who loved the site and others who didn’t. This is a long term goal of ours to redesign the site but right now it’s just not something we are planning. When we do redesign a site we will definitely get input from you guys.

Review: Andrew Christian Shockjock Flirt Brief

My Second outing on my Enhancement Underwear journey was with the Andrew Christian Shockjock Flirt Brief. This particular style is what inspired me to start thinking about the different styles of enhancing undies.   When I first saw Shockjock Flirt Brief I thought “This has gone too far!” Andrew Christian is one of my favorite brands, so put my initial thoughts aside and gave them a try.

The Shockjock brief, according to Andrew Christian, can add up to 2 inches ( 5cm ) to your frontal measurement. This enhancement is accomplished by means of an insert which they call the “Active Shaping Technology Cup.” This “cup” is inserted into the brief in a pouch. This cup is essentially a padding that is shaped to look like a man’s bulge.

As with virtually every pair of Andrew Christian I have worn, the Shockjock brief was extremely comfortable. It is made of 90% Cotton and 10% Spandex so the stretch is apparent.

Here are my thoughts on the Shockjock Flirt Brief:

  • Fit –5/5-  The size provided to me was a small, and the fit was perfect for me. The stretch of the fabric will provide anyone with a great fit. Plenty of room up front, even with the cup insert put in.
  • Comfort –5/5-  Since the enhancement is provided by the cup and not by your own goods, you don’t have to put them in a cup or pouch or sling. It feels like you are wearing traditional undies with a tiny pillow up front.
  • Enhancement Factor – 5/5- Whether naturally big or small, the cup really will add 2 inches to your front. The male features on the cup attempt to make the bulge look natural, but to me it just looks like you are padded.
  • Deception Factor – 5/5- I gave the Shockjock Flirt Brief the highest Deception Factor because I have a few problems. If you are close enough to someone where they are going to see you in your underwear and be so close as to see male features on your bulge, then most likely that pair is coming off. I think it would be an embarrassing moment when they determine the package doesn’t match the wrapping.

Final Thought – My second wear of the pair I did without the cup insert in place. This is how I will wear this pair in the future–just another comfortable stylish Andrew Christian design that is better off without the cup gimmick.

Review: aussieBum Wonderjock Pro

I have owned a few pairs of Aussiebum’s line of Wonderjock briefs. Needless to say I was excited to try their new line of Wonderjock Pro. The Wonderjock Pro, at first glance, looks just like the older version of the Wonderjock. As soon as you feel the fabric though, the difference is clear. The Pro is much softer and has a “stretchier” feel than its predecessor. The style is traditional Aussiebum with their signature logo waistband and colored piping along the borders of the brief.

The enhancing effect is once again, like the original Wonderjock, accomplished by a sewn in pouch in the front to which you put your entire package. The Pro feels much more comfortable than the original, and allows for more movement so you don’t feel so compressed. Aussiebum is using the term “free swing technology” which I think is a fitting name and a praiseworthy upgrade from the previous design. I was comfortable all day and never once felt like I was wearing anything but traditional stretchy underwear. The enhancing the briefs provide is noticeable but not laughable. The Wonderjock Pro provided with a boost but no one would be the wiser that you are wearing enhancement briefs.

Here’s how I rated the Wonderjock Pro:

  • Fit – 5/5  – I wear a size 29 waist and the size small fit great. Lots of room up front and the waistband and leg openings were comfortable and true to size.
  • Comfort – 5/5 – Stretchable high quality cotton and a scratch free tag.
  • Enhancing factor 4/5 – A natural looking boost, but I feel unless you have something of substance to put in the pouch, not much would happen
  • Deception Factor 0/5 – No one would know you are wearing enhancing undies through clothes, without clothes, or when they come off.

The latest trend in men’s underwear is enhancing underwear. Virtually every brand and line is experimenting in ways to boost, well, a man’s confidence. I thought it might be a wise and fun idea to more closely examine what some of the different companies are offering and really put them to the test.

Different companies use various ways to plump up your front; I’ve seen everything from slings and rings, straps and pouches and even padding. With all these options out there, someone was going to have to wade through them and find out what does what, and what does it well. Yes UNB readers, I shall put my goods through the trials and tribulations and give you my honest opinion on what these enhancing undies can do for your junk.

I will evaluate the different pairs using several criteria. Each pair will be rated in fit, comfort, enhancing factor, and a little something I’ve come up with called the “fraud factor”. The Fraud Factor is simply this: should someone be intrigued by your newly enhanced front, how embarrassing or awkward will it be to a) remove your boys from the various contraptions and b) explain the sudden deflation. A score of 0 means that no one would be the wiser, but a 5 is equivalent to gym socks stuffed down your front.

So far I’ve had a blast with this little side project and I hope you will find it to “enhance” our postings here on the site! Look for reviews starting this week!

Review: Intymen Fill It Jockstrap

When I first received this jockstrap, the words that entered my mind were, ‘you’ve got to be kidding’.  However, being the open-minded person that I self-proclaim, I was open to trying the innovated design and construction that sets this manufacturer apart from their counterparts.  Based on the quality of materials and traditional style of the typical jockstrap, something convinced me that it couldn’t all be wrong.

This particular line designed by Intymen called ‘Fill It’ consists of a built in c-ring that is sown into the pouch that provides a comfortable and and yet supportive feature, which turns up the sex appeal without compromising the functionality of a jockstrap.  The exterior portion of the pouch includes two lateral slots on either side providing easy access to your goods.  As intended, this jock provides a lifting effect and enhances your overall package.

I pushed the envelope a bit and gave this jock a real workout at the gym recently.  It provided adequate support as a good jock should and still felt comfortable and unobtrusive in supporting the goods.  I guess it comes to no surprise considering that these are constructed with 92% cotton and 8% Spandex.  Likewise, the pouch is trimmed in black along with the company’s signature name across the front of the waist band.  I was totally pleased with the visual appeal and fit of this jock which says a lot for a guy who prefers the traditional trunk for everyday underwear.

In summary, with warmer weather just days ahead for most of us, if you’re looking for a new jock to add to your spring collection, you might strongly consider this manufacture.  However, if you’re simply looking to add some sex appeal to your underwear collection, Intymen also provides a variety of additional jockstraps, thongs and several see through pieces.

In the world of underwear it seems there can’t be much new. But then someone comes out with a pair you never thought was possible. The same goes for technology. Skiviez is doing something that is pretty awesome, they have created a mobile site to shop for undies on your phone. This is one of the few sites I have seen from an underwear company that is specifically for mobile devices.

Skiviez has created a site that is pretty easy to navigate and has a big selection. In my real life I work in marketing and deal with social media and emerging media. So, I am quite familiar with mobile and what is happening in the space. Currently very few companies are really utilizing mobile sites. Here in the US anything mobile is still a new thing. Skiviez has always been on the cutting edge, it’s awesome to see an underwear company venture into a new territory.

The mobile Skiviez site is very easy to navigate. I played around with it this morning and you will be able to find underwear easily. From the main page you can see the following categories: brands, sales, styles, new and top sellers. But you are not limited to just these, you can also search for a particular pair. Let’s say you were out at a bar and someone told you about a new pair of Baskit, you can open your phone’s browser, find it on the site and ask the friend if that is the right pair! Underwear shopping never was so easy!

Once you get to the pair you want simply click the pair. Then you will be brought to the product page. On that page, we couldn’t have said it better then ourselves, this is from the Skiviez blog: “we display only the most pertinent information without the fluff: images, fabric information, and customer reviews.” You will not have to wade through tons of info and there is nothing worse then trying to read a lot of info on your phone.

Once you found the perfect pair or pairs you need to buy them. They have two options buy directly on your phone or computer. If you choose to buy on your phone you can check out through PayPal or Google Check out. But, say you are somewhere and you don’t have time to break out your credit card and put in all the info, and you don’t want to shop all over. In this case you can email your shopping cart to yourself or a friend to complete the order process on a computer. To use this feature, when in your cart use “Email Cart.” Instructions will be sent how to finish the order. Don’t worry, any email used in this feature will not be added to the email list. You must opt in on your own!

Lastly, once your order is placed you can use the phone to track orders. I know many of you are like me, you placed and order and takes longer then expected. Again, if like me a day is longer then expected, cause you want it NOW! But the US Postal service, UPS or FedEx work at their own speeds sometime. The mobile site will let you track your order and you will know exactly when your new undies will arrive.

If you have an internet enabled phone I highly recommend you check out the Skiviez mobile site. It doesn’t matter if you have an iPhone, Android, Blackberry or what ever!
