Today’s Brief Distraction is from Cellblock13. Which is a really fun line from Timoteo. It’s not for everyone but for those who dare to wear it can be very sexy. Timoteo worked with Trenton Ducati and Tate Ryder on this shoot for CellBlock 13. Timoteo :”I loved working with both these guys, both down to earth and easy to work with. It was a fun shoot and looking forward to shooting with T&T again.”

It’s almost assured that if you’re reading this, you know all about the Jockstrap-how it’s typically made, what it’s basic purpose is, etc. For those that may not, a jockstrap is an undergarment that both covers and supports the male package while simultaneously leaving your behind exposed to the world, or the backside of your shorts and pants. The long story on Jockstraps is that they were invented by a guy who started Bike and the brand’s jockstraps are made very similar to how they were made over 100 years ago. We’ve come a long way since then, and thank heavens for that.

For those of you that haven’t read my evolution into the world of men’s designer underwear, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I have to evolve when it came to the typical understanding of what a jockstrap is good for. It wasn’t until I got into underwear in the first place that I decided to purchase my first jockstrap. I was doing rigorous circuit training and my trunks just weren’t cutting it in the support department. I opted for the traditional and safe Papi 3-Pack Cotton Jockstraps and thought that’d be the end of my journey. After those passed their sell-by date, my underwear evolution was well under way, and I wanted to keep with the traditional, but seeing all of what I just refer to as “Fashion Jocks” I snapped up some of the 2(x)ist All-Star Jocks as well as some Go Softwear Cotton Lycra Jockstraps. For the most part, I was happy. Not only was I getting the practical support a jock offered me, the nice colors provided an added boost to my self-esteem.

It wasn’t until I decided to start blogging about my underwear collection, and visiting sites like the brilliant Underwear News Briefs and some of the other friendly underwear bloggers’ sites that I discovered that men were actually wearing Fashion Jocks under there everyday clothing. While that should have been more than obvious to me at that point, I am a slow-to-school straight guy, so bare with me. I tried to join the trend back in March, wearing one of my Go Softwear jocks to work and it wasn’t the greatest experience. The thick cotton, that is great for comfortable and supportive workouts quickly became swampy and cramped. I came home, dying to get my jockstrap off, and was resigned to the fact that I just wouldn’t be a jockstrap guy.

A few weeks passed, and as I started showing off my underwear collection, the fact that I didn’t wear jockstraps as daily wear was a negative in two ways. Primarily, it was locking me out of reaching more of you guys (our invaluable followers and fans), but second, (which was an eventual realization) I was missing out on one of the best styles of men’s designer underwear out there! However, I remained frustrated. I wanted to try some more “wearable” fashion jocks, but for the most part, the ones that I was attracted to shaped up to be similar to the ones I already had, fearing they’d fit the same and cause similar problems.

And then, came my “Ah Ha!” moment…

Not long after my failed attempt, I discovered what is perhaps the most brilliant (and in my opinion best) fabric in men’s underwear design today, “Rayon”. A pair of Obviously for Men briefs (which I wore yesterday) introduced me to the fabric’s magical qualities and I was hooked. It didn’t take long for me to put two and two together. Obviously made jockstraps with rayon, and knowing how soft, form-fitting (I’ll discuss this, later) comfortable and most importantly, breathable the fabric was, I decided to try one. Once I got it on, I was in heaven. After wearing it for the day, I finally realized what I had been (knowingly) missing-I knew why so many men loved this style as everyday wear.

I had found the perfect style of underwear for me, and needless to say, I became obsessed. My jock collection exploded and continues to grow when new rayon jocks hit the market that I cannot live without. A jockstrap made with rayon, is the Jockstrap, done right. For those of you who do not know, Rayon is a fabric made from cellulose fibers of bamboo. It’s incredibly soft, and while not the most moisture-wicking, it is still near the top, but what makes it most comfortable is the fabric’s elasticity. While there are several jockstraps on the market that use similar fabrics to rayon, I am convinced that the Jockstrap is at its best when the pouch is made of the stuff.

What we know about all underwear made from rayon, is that it allows your package to sit in its most natural state, hanging away from your body and in front of your legs. While some men may argue that this feature doesn’t give them the support they’re looking for, I disagree. For those of us working 8-12 hour days, a jockstrap with a rayon pouch is the penultimate in all-day comfort because it’s doing the job all underwear sets out to do, but does so in the best way, performing the task without so much as a little reminder of what it’s doing.

While the rayon jockstrap provides excellent support, I think its best part is the fabric’s body-hugging fit. When laying on the bed, it doesn’t appear that there is much to a rayon jockstrap pouch. The pouch seems much smaller than you would think it needs to be, but that couldn’t be further from the truth once you get it on. As soon as you’ve got your package secured into the pouch, the greatest thing happens, you’re done for the day. The fabric molds to whatever natural changes might occur to your package during the day. What I love about rayon in general is that for men like me, who are just slightly above-average between their legs, no fabric on the market does a better job in supporting us without ever cramping our natural “hang.”

Rayon is an expensive fabric, and for companies that produce huge quantity, it’s gets expensive to sell. In addition, its production costs typically mean that rayon fabrics will tend to be monochromatic. Most men prefer cotton jock straps because they come in the widest varieties of colors and styles, and do not get me wrong, this wholehearted endorsement of the rayon jockstrap is not in any way a slam on those designs or designers who do not produce them. A non-rayon design I favor is C-IN2 and their jock design. It has an excellent pouch that is very deep in its contour. Another great designer, N2N Bodywear makes jocks in just about all of the commonly used fabrics in men’s underwear design.

If you are like me, and are either afraid to start wearing jocks as daily wear, or have yet to find one you really feel comfortable enough in to wear for several consecutive hours in a day, I firmly believe the answer lies in the jockstraps that feature rayon as the fabric in the pouch design. I guarantee it will provide unparalleled fit and comfort and will reshape how you once viewed the jockstrap. It’s a design that truly is the Jockstrap, done right.

Iconic Aussie underwear brand 2wink Australia has added two sexy new ranges of swimwear briefs to its collection, entitled “Bondi & Surfers.” The new ranges highlight a removable “Bulge Booster” pouch that makes up for those embarrassing cold water moments.

The “Bondi 2026” range is an exclusively black pair of swim briefs, which name represents the postal code for Bondi Beach in New South Wales, Australia, and the exclusively blue pair is called “Surfers 4217,” which is named for the postal code of Surfers Paradise in Queensland, Australia. Each pair includes the “Bulge Booster” foam mould that can be inserted into or removed from an inside pocket in the front pouch.

The ranges, modeled by Ryan Burke and shot by photographer Russell Fleming, highlight the 2wink Australia logo with an exclusive Southern Cross emblem that represents Dante’s four moral virtues associated with the four main stars, including Justice, Prudence, Temperance and Fortitude.

“The brand represents a subtle, iconic nature about the man who is donning them,” says 2wink Australia co-owner Carl McNeill. “He’s confident, though simultaneously conscious of himself as he either removes or inserts the removable foam mould in the front pouch.”

The 100% Aussie-made Bondi & Surfers swimsuits are made from imported Italian Nylon. The physique-showcasing swimsuit briefs are fully lined on the inside and include a drawstring and pipe-styled nickel toggles. Each swimsuit retails for around $79 USD (free worldwide shipping), and are available online at www.2wink.com.au.

I’ve really enjoyed reviewing Pistol Pete.   The newest pair I received is the Rookie Trunk.  And while I don’t wear trunks often, I was happy to throw these on and give them a try.  Pistol Pete always uses eye catching patterns and color combinations; the pair I received are red, white, and blue.  Perfect for July!  72% Polyester, 25% Rayon, and 3% Spandex, they felt great.

I wore these on my day off, which depending on the day can be very active or completely consumed by watching bad TV all day.  On this particular day I spent most of the day running errands and window shopping.  They were comfortable for the most part.  The pouch in front is nice and definitely provided support.  Part of the reason I don’t wear trunks often is that they tend to ride up on the legs.  These did as well, so I found myself tugging on them periodically during the day.  Of course, for someone who is used to wearing trunks this may not be an issue.  I am a big fan of underwear that has a center seam in the back like these trunks do.  A couple of times when I sat down I would feel the seam get a little tighter and the waist drop a little lower in the back.  It wasn’t uncomfortable, just not something I am used to.  The curse of having a bubble butt.

I really love the color combinations for this trunk.  The pattern makes it almost look like a pair of briefs with something underneath.  The stitching on the front center really defines the pouch.  If you like a nice defined seat then these trunk will work for you.

Pros

  • Great colors
  • Pouch front
  • Breathable fabric

  • Legs tend to ride up

Anyone who knows me and my love of underwear knows that I love the N2N brand.  They always create styles and cuts that accentuate the important parts while providing great comfort at the same time.  I received the Haze Pouch brief in blue in a size medium.   “Hand spun and dyed”, this underwear is 90% cotton 10% spandex.  And true to N2N, they were a hit with me.

Typical of many N2N lines, this brief has a pouch front.  The pouch provides support and lift, pushing the goods forward more than regular cut briefs.  When I pulled them on,  I immediately knew I would love them.  They felt great.  Throughout my work day I felt like I was almost wearing nothing, the fabric is so soft.  A couple of times I had to adjust the pouch, as it seemed to stretch a little as the day went on.

I love the patterns this brief comes in.  I got them in Indigo Blue; they also come in Sunset Yellow.  The fabric is such that it appears slightly transparent even though it is really not.

Pros

  • pouch front
  • feels good on the skin
  • fun pattern

Cons

  • pouch stretches a little

Today’s Brief Distraction is from photographer Scott Barnes. He has done some great work. This picture features his model Scott. But over the next few days we will be showing you some more of Scott’s amazing work.

If you cannot tell that Modus Vivendi underwear from Greece has become a personal favorite of mine from our Facebook page, you must view our page.  I am simply enthralled with the look, the styles, the website, and the fun that Modus Vivendi seems to project onto their clients.

The Modus Vivendi Jean Boxer style is a great pair of boxer briefs in a dark blue fabric that resembles denim.  The boxer has leather look detailing along the front pouch area that is separated and held in place by a black cord with silver pieces on the end.  There is also a leather look Modus Vivendi label on the back where the patch on regular blue jeans is located.  This pair of underwear is listed as fetish wear on the Modus Vivendi website and is modeled after country style clothing.

The fabric consists of 95% Vicose (synonym for Rayon) and 5% Elastan and makes for a soft feel with perfect stretch and conforming abilities to provide fantastic support in all areas.  The way the pouch area is sewn creates a very nice and full look while wearing these boxer briefs.  Size X-Large was a nice fit based on European to American sizing, but not true to size as I am a true Large in undies (Size up, guys!).  There really isn’t a waistband on these boxer briefs.  The area around the waistband is a bit rigid and bunched up for my taste which led to a bit of uncomfortable feelings as I wore these.  The way this boxer brief is sewn creates the exact look of blue jeans from the rear and from the front.  The front appears to have pockets due to the way the stitching is sewn.  The paneled construction creates a nice fit that contours to the body and provides a sleek look.

Upon first inspection, the boxer is more of a squarecut boxer rather than what one thinks of when you use the word boxer, the quality was good, the dark denim blue with black leather look trim is a excellent combination, the rear consists of a couple of separate panels to provide support and definition of the rear, and the pouch size was perfect in sizing and support.  After putting this pair on, I found the pouch to create a very full look in the underwear and I loved the way the leather look pieces could be tightened and loosened to accommodate the package, or reveal it.  To be honest, the way the underwear fit and created a silhouette reminded me of how some guys really fill up their jeans in the front and the back.  I like the way the underwear is conforming and how it feels against my body as it moves with my movements.  The way the rear is paneled together in pieces allows for definition and provided a nice look.

I wore this Modus Vivendi Jean Boxer from beginning of the day until around 11:30 that night.  I began the day with my travelling to a local tourist town on Saturday morning for a weekend stay.  I shopped, ate, walked the town, went out that night, and wore these undies the entire day.  The boxer brief remained fairly comfortable the entire day.  I say that because Modus Vivendi lists this as fetish wear and I probably should not have worn it the entire day and expect it to be comfortable the whole time.  I found the waist to be a bit uncomfortable and rigid after awhile.  However, I should have worn it tied loosely and slightly open like shown on the website in the photograph Modus Vivendi has up for your viewing.

Overall, this was a nice pair of underwear.  I liked the look of the rear, the way the dark denim looked, the leather look enhancements, the feel of the fabric, the overall look of the boxer brief, the conforming nature of the pouch, and the contrasting black lace-up cord.  The price is a bit high, but fairly reasonable for this type of specialty underwear due to styling.  I think I will hand wash these since they have the special detailing and cord on them.  In general, I have no major complaints about this boxer and I enjoyed wearing them.  Now, I will have to report back with the fetish side of things….
