baskit-america

The pair of underwear I am reviewing is the Baskit America Brief in Super White.  Before trying these on, I enjoyed feeling the soft, thick fabric.  This brief is super white with navy blue and gold trim.  The waistband is nave blue with a wide band of gold around the waist and the Baskit logo in white centered on the front above the pouch.  The waistband is approximately 1.5 inches in width and is a bit taut with a small amount of give.  This sturdy waistband makes sure it has no bunching issues while wearing the brief.  The accommodating pouch is rather high placed which provides extra lift and appears to be meant to be very supportive and create that show off look that so many underwear companies are striving to achieve.  The gold color is a really a mixture of gold and mustard and provides a nice contrast to the navy blue and super white.  This brief makes me feel like I should be on a yacht with a captains hat on.  I’m king of the world!  There are several color options in this brief that all feature the gold trim.  This is my fourth or fifth pair of Baskit undies.  I bought a brief when the company first started selling underwear and I enjoy a jock I have from them.  I like Baskit underwear, in general.

While wearing this pair of underwear, I went about my normal daily activities for work.  I administered assessments to a client and sat and stood approximately five hours while wearing this pair of briefs.  The pair fit well, but was a bit tight, did not bunch up, did not ride up, and was comfortable.

I received a size large in this brief.  This size should cover a 34 pant size.  Sizing was not true to size as I am a large in the vast majority of underwear and this pair was a bit tight.  So, the fit was a bit snug in the waist and after washing and air drying the brief, it is a bit smaller that a large but still very wearable.

 am1100_america_brief_s_white am1100_america_brief_b_whiteam1100_america_brief_f_white

I loved the super white fabric with gold trim to accentuate the underwear and body (95%Cotton, 5%Elastane) as it was comfortable and conforming to the body.  The pouch was slight, but supportive and conforming.  I loved the seam that ran the length of the pouch and ended at the crotch.  The seam was sewn with large stitches and created a nice look.  The gold trim that highlighted the pouch was also a particular favorite of mine.

Overall, this was a nice pair of comfortable underwear.  The design is conforming to the body and creates a nice profile.  I will enjoy wearing them again.

Big Boys Pants 3

I found your brand on the Dead Good Undies Site, I don’t think many US readers are familiar with your brand. Can you tell them about you?

Big Boys was born out of frustration around 4-5 years ago because of how disappointing the undies were out there available to us guys.  After years of putting up with sub-standard undies, constantly re-adjusting ourselves and squashing everything into standard compact undies, my brother and I decided to design our own custom-made pants with a stretchy pouch using the ‘Softest fibre in the world’ – Lenzing Modal, in the style that suited us best with a brand name to be proud of.  Everybody wants to be a Big Boy, right?   The freedom and support the pouch offered us was amazing and the Modal lived up to it’s reputation as being unbelievably soft making our new undies so comfortable and sexy.  We absolutely loved our new pants and decided to share some extra samples with friends who instantly became Big Boys fans too.  It was time for Big Boys to go global.  We have passion in our pants and it’s great to see we’re not alone.  Through the support and encouragement of retailers such as Dead Good Undies we have been able to increase awareness of our brand and underwear collections around the world which has been great.  Sadly the US market is a tough nut to crack with many US retailers content in stocking the same tired old brands.  From the increasing sales and comments we get from US customers it’s clear than you guys are more than ready for something different and you want more than just cheaply made cotton undies made by boring generic brands charging over-inflated prices.  We continue to produce pants primarily for ourselves and our customers rather than for a quick buck so even though we use expensive top quality Lenzing Modal, our retail prices remain lower than our competitors who use inferior fabrics.   Our fabric is 10 TIMES softer than cotton, retains it’s shape and colour better than cotton, and is stronger and more durable than cotton.  We think the extra cost to us is well worth it to have a pair of pants that we are proud to call ours.

You make ergonomically designed underwear, what sets you apart from other brands?

There are many brands to choose from out there, and a few which offer a similar pouch design. However most brands use a cotton/elastane mix which is cheap to produce and loses shape and colour far too easily, and with customers regularly being charged $15-$30 for these brands we feel they deserve more for their hard-earned money, especially in the current economic climate.  We use the Worlds Softest Fibre throughout our underwear collections which is sourced directly from the original innovators and manufacturers of Modal – Lenzing of Austria.  There are a few that have taken the leap to using modal instead of cotton, but again they’ve chosen to use a cheaper generic modal rather than source the top quality Modal directly from Lenzing as we do which is silky-soft, extremely lightweight and very stretchy giving you the ultimate sensual second-skin fit.  The ergonomic, anatomical design lets everything hang naturally in luxurious comfort for improved support and a more sculptured appearance more suited to a man’s shape.  Many customers have said it’s like being naked, having that liberating freedom but with a reassuring hug of support.  The breathable fabric also contains absorbent qualities for a cooler experience which can also aid fertility.  We have also had reports that it has transformed the lives of men suffering with psoriasis and other skin conditions due to the cooler modal fabric allowing the groin area to breathe and remain drier; reducing friction and chafing and so becoming flake-free for the first time in years.

Of course there’s also the brand name that people love.  Some guys buy pants purely based on the designer’s name which from a personal point of view I would much rather show off my BIG BOYS waistband than have some vague, meaningless brand or some other guy’s name across my waist.  Brands/Labels are becoming increasingly important to guys wanting to impress their friends or to attract other girls/guys so whether it’s in a bar, locker room or bedroom the Big Boys label always commands respect.

Do you have a specific audience you are after or all men in general?

All men wear undies so we have no specific audience, every guy can be a Big Boy.  We’ve found that the 18-35 year old guys are probably more adventurous but we receive orders from all ages, shapes and sizes and the comments we receive are great from all kinds of guys throughout the world.  Even my 13-year nephew wears his Big Boys with pride and his school friends and football team have been converted to the comfort of Lenzing Modal.  He’s quickly becoming our top little salesman from his team mates .  By using the stretchy modal fabric it allows us to offer a ‘One Size Fits Most’ pouch design so whether you’re a compact guy, regular guy or larger guy the pouch will support your twig n’ berries in smooth, soft, luxurious comfort.  Why squash your bits n’ pieces into pouch-less unisex style pants that could as easily fit a female figure?  Men are anatomically different and need extra room, comfort and support.  Let’s face it, it’s on our minds most of the time so lets treat it to a bit of luxury hey.   As I said, we initially made undies for ourselves so it’s great to find that so many others have been searching for the same thing for years.  It’s nice to know we’re designing undies that other people want too and we hope to continue giving the public what they want.

With the amazing fit have you thought of doing swimwear?

We have a lot of ideas and samples in the pipeline which do include swimwear.  We want to get the designs right and so far thankfully the feedback we’ve received from our focus groups have been encouraging.  We have to get the balance right between staying true to our brand and also be conscious that our swimwear will be displayed on public beaches and communal swimming pools with families so a more subtle design than our underwear collections has been adopted.  They still look great though and the various styles should be available for Spring/Summer 2014.

What trends are you seeing in men’s underwear?

Men are becoming increasingly aware of their appearance and spending more time on their looks, physique, and fashion.  The days of boring passion-killing Y-fronts are long gone, and guys are now far more adventurous and more conscious of male grooming.  Having said that, there are some guys who are still unsure of the pouch design but based on the positive feedback we receive from customers and reviewers, and the amount of returning customers it’s clear that guys are embracing change and once they’ve tried the pouch-design undies and experienced the freedom, comfort and support they just don’t want to go back to standard undies.

What is in store for Big Boys Underwear in the next year?

We have lots of ideas and designs for later this year and next year which have yet to be finalised but it’s an exciting time ahead.  I don’t want to give away too much as they are still in the development stage but we have designs for a new alternative collection to our current Next Generation collection and also developing our brand in other avenues.  I’d like to offer all your readers a chance to get their hands on some Big Boys with a special 15% discount by quoting TIM as the discount code on our web site as a thank you, I know you’re a big fan Tim and we really appreciate your support.  If your readers can actively encourage some US retailers to try something new and stock Big Boys in their stores instead of the usual cotton clones, it would result in cheaper shipping costs and faster delivery times for US customers, although it’s still pretty fast from the UK thankfully.  I think guys in the US are more than ready for something new so maybe people power can make this happen.

We’re keen to develop our brand and improve our products so we always welcome suggestions and comments from our customers and hopefully the Underwear News Briefs readers would also like to comment on how we can improve our products.  Keep checking our web site (www.BigBoysPants.com) or follow us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/bigboysunderwear) and Twitter (@BigBoysUndies) for regular product updates and special offers.

Thanks again Tim, keep up the good work my friend.

We would like to thank Andy for taking the time to answer our questions. Make sure you got check it out. I also know a few of you may notice the different spellings. Since the big boys are in the UK they have some different spellings

I have seen your profiles on Today Show and Good Morning American and your story is truly inspiring.  You have over come a lot in the last few years, what was the biggest help in cover coming the challenges you had the last few years?

Hey whatsup sir how are you doing thank you for having me on your blog today.  To be honest with you I really wasn’t doing anything except running away from all my problems with my alcohol. That is until almost 10 months ago. Things happened in my life, things got put in front of me that prohibited me from drinking. Been sober ever since. Now I love my life wouldn’t change a thing about it 🙂

Our motto here is “real guys, real underwear”, we posted one of your pictures from Tom Cullis on our Facebook page _MG_1027and the response was overwhelmingly positive. You look amazing, and aren’t the typical underwear model. What made you go into fitness/underwear modeling?

Ha! Wasn’t my idea! Tom Cullis and I go to the same gym. We where there one day at the same time, and when he saw me he said to me “You look HOTT! Have you ever modeled?”

I got in front of a camera for the first time ever with him. He said I was a natural. I said “No, I’m just being me man”. That’s all I have ever been. That’s all I ever want to be. Just me.

What response have you seen about your pictures that have recently been seen all over the net?

I’ve received multiple different responses from people. I’ve gotten some people who appreciate how I look.  And then others who are inspired, who are trying to better themselves daily, like I am

With all the recent visibility and publicity what has been the best thing that has happened to you?

I think I have reached, been given the opportunity to reach, more people than I EVER thought possible. For that, I am so very grateful

You look amazing in your pictures, what type of work out do you do?

A lot of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts, then a lot of cardio, then a healthy balanced diet. A normal sleep schedule helps more than you might want to give it credit ha

What are your plans for the future? Are there any brands you would like to model for?

Be happy,  stay healthy, and find balance in life. Those are my life’s goals

I never thought I would ever be doing all this, so its not like growing up I had big dreams of different underwear I could wear in magazines haha 😉 That being said, I would LOVE to work for Nike. That is one of my biggest goals currently

Thank you very much for having me on your blog sir!

ppu-1319-review

I was really excited to review the PPU 1319 Boxers I got as soon as I got them in the mail. I’m not usually one for mesh, but I was excited to try them out and see what I thought. When I signed on to write for UNB, I told myself that I would try new things, and I saw this as the perfect opportunity. I wasn’t disappointed. I’m usually not thrilled by white, but the sexy style intrigued me right away. I haven’t tried any other PPU styles before, but had heard really good things. This style is also available in black with a black waistband.

My day for this review was a little more active than usual. I started with an hour bus ride to work, a full day of work, an hour bus ride home, a bunch of errands all around town and an evening run. I think the fact that they held up so well for this active of day then they would hold up normally. I don’t think these would work well for a lounging around day, mostly because there is so little to them.

I got a size medium, which is generally a size up than I normally take, but it ended up working out great for me. PPU says that this size is for people with waists between 32 and 24 inches. The pair are true to size and the sizing is based on American standards.

Overall, I really liked the feel of this pair. It felt like I was wearing nothing, but not in an uncomfortable, I’m-going-commando-right-now way. They were so soft, which is pretty much the exact opposite of what I was expecting. I’d say the look was average. I really like the portions that are mesh, but don’t really like the parts that are “solid.” If it was up to me, I would have changed the solid portions so that they were actually solid and didn’t have such weird patterns. I thought they were cheesy.

1319(1)1319(2)1319(4) 1319(3)

So the verdict is in. I made it through my first mesh review pair, I am alive and I’m actually happy with what I ended up with. If you are afraid of trying something that might be a sexier than you would usually go for, DO IT. You might (and probably will be) pleasantly surprised. To sum up:

Pros:

  • The fit was fabulous. Keep in mind that I got a size larger than I normally take, but I think if you stick with your regular size you should be good.
  • Though the look is “sexy,” the material is super soft, and comfortable for your average day at work.
  • I love the red trim and waistband against the white. Looks great!

Cons:

  • The pattern on the solid parts of the pair isn’t the best

And here are my ratings:

  • Daily Fit — 8
  • Sizing — 8
  • Construction/Materials — 10
  • Styling — 7
  • Daily Performance — 9
  • Overall — 8.4

aussiebum-surfguardaussieBum has always had the philosophy that underwear should be fun! Their underwear usually features their laid back “down under” attitude. The new Surf Guard incorporates that attitude. They have created a great waistband that features caricatures of the famous Aussie Life Savers. Its taking the beach and bringing it in to the undies!

The waistband is the big draw of this pair. As a big waistband fan, it’s great to see a company do something different and fun. I know not everyone will like a cartoonish waistband, but I think it’s brilliant and one of the funnest waistbands in a long time. Also, with the waistband you don’t need them in any several colors. The two colors are reflected in the print of the waistband and are very complimentary.

  • Available in two styles – a brief and trunk
  • Colors are blue or red
  • Made out of a micro modal fabric – 87% Micro Modal, 13% Elastane
  • Brief is $24 and the trunk is $25

These are available on the aussieBum site. See the video below

UN8-13-Full

Anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely love N2N underwear.  They have a knack for creating underwear that is visually stimulating and feels great on the skin.  The Classic Jock is no exception.  I knew the minute that I put it on that I was going to love wearing it.

My day consisted of an 8-hour day at the office.  I love wearing jocks under my dress pants.  Something about the feel of the pants on my rear, and knowing that my co-workers have no idea that I have on such hot underwear.  The straps on this jock did not bind or pull.  I also noticed that the straps are sewn in such a way that they do not twist underneath the package as some other jocks do.

I followed the work day with a vigorous workout at the gym.   The fabric helped keep my dry down there and the jock did a great job of supporting me while I did weights and cardio.  It also gave me a slightly noticeable bulge in my shorts, at least more so than usual.  Not that I minded.  I hate underwear that flattens you out.  I want to be comfortable when I work out, not pulling on my underwear every time I sit down on a weight bench or after I finish running on the treadmill.

UN8-13-EUN8-13-BUN8-13-A

The sizing for N2N is based on US measurements and sizing, so if you follow their size chart you shouldn’t have any problem with this jock fitting you well.  I tend to fluctuate between a small and a medium, depending on the brand and cut of underwear.  I received this jock in a medium, which fit my 31” waist perfectly.  The cotton/spandex blend of the pouch fit snugly on my package and lifted me just right.   The jock is available in white, light blue and heather; I wish there were more colors, I would definitely get them all.

Pros

  • Very comfortable
  • snug pouch that lifts the goods
  • non-binding straps

Cons

  • only available in three colors

Ratings:

  • Daily Fit – 10
  • Sizing – 10
  • Construction/Materials – 10

With the Supreme Court currently ruling on gay marriage, Andrew Christian sends a positive message of “Be Proud, Believe in Yourself” to the community with their latest video.

The video starts with Christoper Clark’s debut (AKA James Ryder) in his first Andrew Christian video as the sexy limo driver.  Who wouldn’t want a hot limo driver who loves to strip down to his sexy Andrew Christian underwear and bedazzle himself in the front seat of a Hummer?

On the island things get a little out of hand, which is to be expected any time you put this group together. Murray and Jon have a hot make out session, right before Murray gives Cory Lee a shot out of his mouth. Luke buries Johna in the sand and Vlad gives him a booty bump to the face. After more shenanigans you have to see to believe, the boys head back to the sail boat.main-1

The video then cuts to designer Andrew Christian getting dressed while his models Murray Swanby, Johnathan Myers, Jeffrey Hawkins and new-comer Caesar are waiting for him by “chillin” at his pool. Andrew announces it is time to go to Gay Pride by showering the guys with thousands of gay pride flags and streamers. Andrew calls Cory Lee, who is flying his gay pride colored kite, to join the rest of the models so they can all get ready for Pride. The models battle it out for the best swag and Cory gets ready “Rambo-style” like he is going to war, and no one can touch the precision and speed that Murray can apply glitter.

Andrew and the models travel to West Hollywood to join the Andrew Christian float and other models to spread the message of “Out and Proud” to all that watch. Topher DiMaggio makes a cameo in the video with an epic gogo dance scene that only someone as hung as Topher could perform.

The models end up back at Andrew’s place to crash and…of course….Murray leaves with the limo driver right after he delivers a final message of “Be Proud” that is written on the Hummer window.

ppu1314

I had the ultimate pleasure of reviewing this new PPÜ brief that came into my possession. I am new to the PPÜ world, and this was a more than wonderful way to start me out. What came in the mail is this sleek little brief that prominently features this color block two-tone structure. The black fabric is a solid black matte, but the white is a unique white on white stripe with a slight texture to the striping. It comes off as a very chic pair. After doing my research, I found out the pair also comes with purple fabric replacing the white fabric.

Before trying it on, my thoughts were excited, and hopeful that nothing would FEEL bad about the pair, or that putting it on wouldn’t all of a sudden reveal that it is an awkward color blocking. The dividing line between the black and the white (because I was sent the white) hits mid-bulge, which I didn’t yet know if that would be HIGHLY attractive, or not. Looking at the seams of the underwear, it made me think putting it on was gonna be very nicely “huggy” because it had some really nice contour seams. The black is actually a flat panel on the front, with two panels in the rear (center back seam for butt contouring). The sculpting in front is due to a gentle curved dart on the bottom of the center front white, scooping right under your bulge. This connects, to a “gusset” like panel of white that goes to the low under-butt in back, where it joins up with the black again. The waistband is a woven PPÜ band with a main logo placed every few inches, and then LITTLE logo trailing like a top and bottom border on the band. There is a sewn in woven fabric label on the center back, which you’ll read later, is my ONLY real negative moment with this review.

Once I tried the pair on, I studied the way the color-blocked line was placed, and I must say, PPÜ took a risk putting a line there, but it really works. Sadly, my day I wore these consisted of me grabbing a lot of heavy stuff, putting in my car, then driving for 2 hours, stopping, picking more stuff up, driving 5 more hours, taking all the stuff up three flights of stairs, and then promptly taking all my clothes off so I could shower the sweaty mess that I was. The day showed how the undies would hold up in two situations, the sitting for long periods of time activity, and the running around hauling things and getting sweaty activity. This pair was a trooper for both. During the hauling parts, it was super comfortable, giving me support through all the flights of stairs. During the sitting part, I didn’t experience any discomfort, no lowering back band to pull up, or adjustments around the thighs. While it’s not one of those pairs that literally slides under your junk and pulls it up like you’re over a ledge, this pair has a very nice supportive pouch. The only negative I ever noticed, and it was rarely noticed, is the woven sewn in tag in back got randomly itchy a few times during the day, but then I got distracted by life and forgot.

According to PPÜ’s sizing chart. I’m at the VERY top of the Large, which is the size I was sent, or at the very bottom of the XL. Having said that, I found it super comfy, and not at all “too snug” so I would say if you straddle the sizes, definitely go down a size, not up. The care instructions say to only hand wash and air dry. As it’s a 93% Nylon 7% spandex blend. I decided to do what I do to my entire wardrobe (basically my entire wardrobe is a blend of nylon and spandex….#trapezeartist) and stick it in the washing machine with everything else on cold water only, then put in the dryer on medium heat. It is absolutely fine. I don’t like underwear that needs too much “care”. I like my underwear like I like my men…dry, good looking, filled with greatness, and strong. But I digress…

1314(3)1314(4)1314(2) 1314(1)

I really love this pair, and I kind of want to buy the purple option for myself as well. And then pray that I get sent more PPÜ to review, since this was a VERY good first impression. If only they could just print the tag on or something, that sewn in tag was KILLIN me, cause it was top stitched rather than integrated into the back waistband seam. Another random thing I probably only care about because I’m a seamster, but I think they could have taken the extra second to line up the MAIN logo on the waistband with the center front. It’s not a singular logo band, but the logos have a space of about 6” apart between them, so the slightly off center one in front almost looks like the only logo if you’re looking dead on, which makes you go crazy wondering why it’s not centered.

PROs:

  • The line of the color blocking was a risk that seriously paid off.
  • Amazing fit, hugging just the way I want.

CONs:

  • Limited color range.
  • ANNOYING top stitched tag.

RATINGS:

  • Daily Fit  – A+
  • Sizing  – B (because I would have probably ordered up a size if I didn’t know)
  • Construction/Materials – B- (tag)
  • Styling – A
  • Daily Performance – A+
  • Overall: – A

sizing

In our second brief talk Brandon and myself decided to tackle the sizing issues in men’s underwear. We all have been there when we bought a brand and its quite what the sizing guide said it was! Enjoy the talk

Tim: Sizing is probably the main issue in buying underwear today. We have always received comments from readers about how in consistent sizing is in men’s underwear. What has been your experience in buying underwear and finding the right size?

Brandon: Brandon: When it comes to buying designer underwear, the decked is stacked against you in terms of picking the right size for you, because most designer underwear shopping is done online, and thus you can’t try it on. My experiences in this regard have proven that there is a profound difference between American sizing, European or British sizing and the sizing coming from the Latin/Central/South American brands. American brands stick to waist size, but what that actually means is they stick close to American pant sizing. I’ve found that the bigger name an American brand is, their size chart is typically forgiving, and you should order whatever size that contains your jeans waist number, unless you like roomier fitting underwear, I guess. I have a 36″ waist according to American sizing so I am usually in the L or XL size. Once you hit 36 on any non-American brand though, you tend to have to buy the XL and pray it fits ok. For the most part I can fit into any foreign brand’s (that isn’t a household name like Armani) XL offerings. It can be frustrating, but the only way to figure it out is to “buy and try.”

I know we are working on revamping our sizing guide here in the next couple of weeks, and really UNB is the only site out there that remotely covers a majority of the brands. With that I hope we can provide the details men will need when thinking about buying X size from Y brand.

Brandon: I know you and I are bigger guys, and obviously that provides other challenges for us when it comes to sizing in men’s underwear. Knowing that there are plenty of brands that run really small (in comparison to American brands) do you think that might be a product of who they are made for, or is there an underlying filter there, like maybe certain brands want to prohibit men they perceive as out of shape from wearing their stuff?

Tim: This is a great question. Before I started the blog and I would often wonder this exact question. But after getting to know a lot of the brands around the world I have come to learn the different sizing around the world. Here are some great rules to follow when buying underwear from outside the US and note that these are generalizations and always check the size guides for each brand.

  • Asia – Typically run smallest, XL could be as small as 34 inch waist
  • South American – Typically runs smaller, XL could be as small as 36 waist
  • European – Usually runs smaller but XL could range from 36-38
  • Australian – Probably closely matches the US Market.  XL could be a 38 or larger

I focused on XL because i wanted to show how different the top end of the size range could be in each country can be. In the US for most brands it is listed anywhere from 38-42 inches. This just illustrates how sizes vary wildly over the world. But I can’t stress enough to read the size chart for every brand you buy. Granted they aren’t always accurate. We will be working on the UNB Size guide to redo it an add in more brands to help pick better underwear.

The second part of your question is are brands making underwear that maybe doing the “Abercrombie’ing” of underwear. I don’t think that many brands purposefully do this tactic. The sizing for most of the areas listed above are set to the size of guys in their population. As we have seen the backlash with Abercrombie I think the same would happen in the world of underwear. I can think of only a handful of brands that don’t offer XL underwear. This would shut out more athletic guys and beefy guys. More companies know that guys of all sizes want great undies.

Tim: Would you buy underwear from a company that would use the Abercrombe’ing of underwear? Even if you could fit in them and size wasn’t an issue?

Brandon: I would never buy underwear from a company that wasn’t committed to making their products for everyone to wear. I struggle with body image (perhaps more since I got into men’s underwear) so when a particular brand’s XL doesn’t fit me, I know I get down on myself. Like you said, I don’t think we probably have to worry about any underwear brands doing this simply because they couldn’t afford to lose consistent customers with an industry that is completely saturated with new brands, and new designs from the old brands.

Brandon: We both agree that a brand trying to purposefully prohibit certain sized men from wearing their underwear is a bad idea, but isn’t their something to be said about brand superiority? I mean I know I feel “under-dressed” when I put on a pair of well-worn Calvin trunks to do yard work, or when I clean the house. I will even bypass certain pairs of underwear that have made it to the top of their piles in my drawer for a pair from a brand I view as far more superior. Do you have brands that you place “above” others even though we’re talking about high quality designer brands in general?

Tim: Yeah I do the same thing. I have probably 400 pairs. I regularly pass over pairs at the top of the drawer when I see a pair that I love below it. Granted most of the pairs in the drawer cost over $20 a pair. We share the same love of pouch briefs and underwear with extra room up front. One of my favorite brands is Cocksox. Anytime I see a pair of Cocksox I regularly grab it rather then what’s on top. There are several other brands that I just grab. But usually these pairs never make it in the drawer. I keep them in a clothes basket and routinely wear the same pairs. Granted I have gained many pairs of underwear from doing UNB the last five years. There have been very few I don’t like. Most will garner a place in the underwear drawer and be worn again.

Tim: What to you puts a brand above others in your underwear drawer? What are the few factors that make you love a pair of underwear?

Brandon: Well, I think it all boils down to whatever your favorites are, and to a lesser extent on how you sort your undies. I sort by brand, so I never really have brand conflict in terms of the “stacks” that I see. So usually it’s a specific pair that I might “reach” for when it isn’t no top, rather than the brand. I love the “Anatomically Correct” pouch from Andrew Christian and AC is easily my favorite brand, so when the undies at or near the tops of the other stacks aren’t too appealing on any given morning, I default to one of my two main AC stacks. When it comes to the factors that makes me love a specific pair over some of the others, I think I have to go with a combination of three elements. The comfort, the look, and then maybe the sentimental value. I will always default to a “trusty” pair of briefs when a brief I might not be feeling on any given day pops up to the top of its pile.

Brandon: Speaking of trusty pairs of underwear, in a collection of 400 pairs, I am sure you have plenty of those. How do you cycle through your underwear in an attempt to even out the wear cycles of all those pairs?

Tim: Funny you should ask, I’m about to go through all my undies. As you know this past year I have lost weight. I went from a 42-inch waist and now down to a 36 waist. So the cycling is a bit more difficult then with having all the same sizes. A lot of my favorites are way too big on me now. Which makes me upset that I can’t wear them. And it’s one of those things where you don’t want to get rid of your favorites. I have pairs from about 8 years ago, like my first pair of unico that I refuse to get rid of. They are basically worn out but what do you do with old underwear. One of the best suggestions I have ever heard was make a quilt out of them. it would be an awesome way to keep the undies. But I don’t sew! So I am in the process of organizing my drawers. A lot of the most recent pairs I have reviewed on UNB are in the main underwear drawer. They fit and feel great. I am also having to as you said in one of your articles “rediscover” underwear that now fits again. It’s like finding hidden treasure to me. i have a big bag of size large underwear I get to go back through. Then there times when i open one of my other four drawers of underwear and find pairs I haven’t worn in a while. I really need to organize them better. That is the biggest challenge to me and finding underwear. Right now the way I organize underwear is the top drawer is my favorites, the second drawer are ones I like but either the color is not my fav, the fit is just ok, or they are the second tier undies. The Third and fourth are pairs that are just ok. I have to figure out what to do with underwear that isn’t my favorite. I just feel wrong about throwing them away. Another think I like to do to cycle through undies is have a theme week. For instance I’ll do a jock week, a Green week, or something a long that lines. Just to mix things up. It would be interesting to hear what our readers to do rotate underwear.

We will have more of this chat soon. We also will have one from two other guys on the site about performing and underwear. If you have any questions feel free to reach both of us on twitter at @unbtim and @unbbrandon. Also you can always email us at info@underwearnewsbriefs.com

UNBBrandonSAILBrief

I was really excited to have the opportunity to review the 2xist SAIL  Sculpted Brief. It’s a pair I’ve had my eye on for some time (thanks, Tim!). The SAIL collection was introduced as part of 2xist’s Spring 2013 line and features what has become standard fare for the label: a brief, a trunk, and a tank top. The pair I am reviewing (that’s me in the photo above) is the “Lake Blue” color option from the line, which features several other colors combinations. The first two things I noticed when I got it out of the box was 1.) how soft the cotton was and 2.) that the cut of this brief is much more traditional than most of the images of them suggested.

After putting them on initially, I knew I’d be giving them a great review. The sizing and fit is exactly what you would expect from 2xist. My 36″ waist fit comfortably into the L (36-38) and as always I suggest that if you are in between sizes on the size chart (31, 35, 39) that you drop down a size. Once you get them on you really appreciate how soft this cotton is. 2xist calls it their “Soft-Fle(X)” cotton which is 95% cotton and 5% spandex. While this brief comes from a featured line, it really could be marketed as everyday underwear given how comfortable it is.

The key feature to this brief is the way it has been constructed. The brief features a large, logo waistband which is incredibly soft both on the inside and outside, while I am not a huge fan of humongous logos on my waistband I don’t take much of an issue with the “2(X)IST” that is plastered on the front of the waistband on these briefs. The prominent feature on these briefs in terms of how it fits, is put together and the overall styling has to be the much larger-than-average leg bindings which are tapered to visually enhance your man-parts. The leg bindings are the same soft cotton covering spandex that lay flat on your legs for a really comfortable fit. I am not sure how much they enhance the contour pouch in reality, especially if you’ve got bigger/muscular thigh muscles.

In terms of how they look, I was expecting them to look a bit different than they do once I got them on. The taper in the leg bindings seem to create the look that these are more of a “bikini” or modern cut brief, but in actuality they are very much a traditional cut brief, with quite a bit of fabric between the waistband and the highest point of the leg openings. While I prefer a more modern cut in briefs, the functionality of the tapered leg bindings certainly make them feel like a modern brief especially when sitting down.

Overall, the fit of the 2xist Sail brief is fantastic. They can be worn for just about any occasion, but I would say that the cotton is fairly thin so I won’t be using these briefs for any strenuous activities or workouts. I really like the look and while the contour pouch could be slightly larger for me, for most men there will be ample room.

These 2xist SAIL sculpted briefs retail for $24 but with several 25% off sales for major brands, you can typically find them for a much more reasonable $18.
