I was a little surprised when I received the Clever Moda silver turmalina low rise brief for review. I have tried Clever swimwear and underwear before, but they usually were too small for my ample butt, but since I’m always willing to try new things, I was more than willing to give it a go. My initial impression was a well constructed brief made of a silky feeling material—shiny grey in color—with a brief purple waistband that leave no room for doubt which brand it was. According to the tag, it was made of 63% nylon and 37% spandex—a combination in which I have never worn underwear with those proportions—and one that intrigued me. Turmalina is Spanish for tourmaline, a semi-precious gemstone, and the silver brief has an appearance similar to the schorl variety (thanks Wikipedia!). It’s also available in a gold tone as well. The brief has an outset pouch in the front and a seam running up the center of back—hopefully for enhancing all of one’s assets.
I put I decided to put it through my typical testing day—a full day of work, getting up and down quite a bit—and then a full workout at the gym. After donning it, I took at a look in the mirror and said “Damn!” This pair made me look smoking hot—nicely enhanced in front, and back; and it was comfortable and it covered my entire butt! At this point, I was more than happy I had Clever a second chance. (Check the pics out to see if you agree.)
I was impressed by the feel of the fabric—it felt like wearing nothing at all, but still being supported both front and back. The bottom did not ride up, despite an active workout in the gym and wide waist band kept everything else in place. Surprisingly, the brief breathed very well despite being part nylon, and was extremely comfortable to wear all day—so much so that I’m making this one of my new favorite pairs to wear.
I got a size medium, which fit me very well. I have a 31-32” waist and I think a small would have a little too snug. So this might be a pair to consider upsizing on when buying. Clever Moda is a Columbian brand and tends to run a bit small.
I loved the feel and look of this brief. The front is shiny and sexy, with a nice comfortable pouch that should fit even the most endowed. The spandex gives it a form-fitting quality without cutting off your circulation. The rear is almost see through—in fact you can see the tag in the pictures I posted with this—making this a good brief for daily wear and for a date as well. I certainly got plenty of looks in the locker room with this on one. My only complaint about the Tourmalina brief is the placement of the tag. It’s not on the waistband but in the center of the seam in the buttocks—and that looks strange in a see-through buttocks. On one hand, there is not tag to cause itching on your waist, but it did itch lower down. When I pulled it off, I actually tore a fabric a bit—so when you remove the tag, do it very gently. Other than that, I loved this brief.
I have always loved the look of Clever Moda briefs but in the past I could seem to fit my butt into them and I hate it when underwear rides up…or down. I was thrilled that this pair seemed made for me and fit me as comfortable as my other favorite pairs of underwear. The look is sexy without being cheap. In the future, I’ll be looking to add more Clever Moda pairs to my collection in the future.

We got a chance to interview photographer Mike Ruiz. You may know him from his celebrity shoots or his brand new app called “Pretty Masculine”. We talked to him about the new app.
The app “Pretty Masculine” has been out and is full of amazing photography. How did the idea for the app come about?
Pretty Masculine was inspired by my desire to reinterpret and deconstruct the idea of how masculinity is defined by society. I started the project as a coffee table book, and based on its success, decided to take it a step further. I sought (and continue to seek) to redefine that which has become stereotypical. It not only encompasses males anymore. It’s about looking at everyone from a different vantage point–it’s about considering how we look at and interpret different people from all walks of life.
Pictures in the app take a lot of time to set up (body paint, hair, etc), how long is an average session for one shoot?
There’s no simple answer to that question. From planning to execution to post production, it takes a VERY long time. Make up alone in and of itself may take three to four hours…The focus is really on the finished product. It’s completely an artistic endeavor. Art for art’s sake, I’d say.
Pretty Masculine is very creative in the shoots in the app, where do you get the ideas for each model?
The ideas come from various sources. Some of them germinate out of my imagination, others are part of a collective collaboration between myself and each of the artists involved.
Have there been any ideas that were too complex to do for a shoot for the app?
Granted, some ideas behind the images (at least in my opinion) have translated better than others but the execution of all the ideas have, by and large, come together pretty seamlessly. In my opinion, no idea is too complex, when there is the will to execute them.
What have been some of the shoots more memorable shoots for the app?
Every shoot has proven to be memorable. They each have become a journey of discovery for me. The excitement I felt creating the very first shoots were great but each subsequent one has been equally gratifying. Sometimes it has been hearing the stories behind the various models and artists that has provoked some inspiration in me, or at times, it’s just been the wonderment of seeing so much talent gathered in one room for a common cause bringing to fruition an extraordinary project. Not to mention involving important people in my life, such as my dad, my partner and even my sweet pitbull Oliver!
Do you have a favorite picture in the app or is it like asking to pick your favorite child?
Absolutely impossible to show any favoritism. There is no one picture I could separate from any of the others. They are all an intrinsic part of me.
How often do you update the app with new content?
The app is updated with new content every three or four weeks. The way I see it, it is as a fully interactive gallery where the user can revisit and see new additions to a constantly evolving exhibition of work in progress.
Is there someone model/celebrity/actor you would love to shoot for the app? If so what would you do with them for the picture?
If I felt like it was right for the project, I’d never say no to including celebrities into the Pretty Masculine app but that’s not really the direction that the app is going for. I have become fairly established as a photographer who shoots plenty of celebrities (and known for doing transformations on them), so I wanted this to become a platform for something different. The purpose of the Pretty Masculine project has been to do really hone in on the unexpected. I feel that in time, as the project continues to evolve, people will see this. They will get to experience with me, in real time, the arc of my work in deconstructing societal preconceptions of masculinity and femininity. That is, showing the inner beauty and uniqueness of people from all walks of life. However, that being said, celebrities are just like you and me…so, why not? Maybe at some point I’ll ask some if they want to jump on board (smiles).
Lastly, I will ask this for some of our readers, are you going to have an android app?
Definitely! My developers have been working on putting together a version of the app that will be compatible with Android devices as well. Stay tuned! It’s coming soon. Promise!

I was listening to a podcast this past week and heard of something many women/girls are doing on YouTube. It’s called posting a “haul” video. The concept is simple, you go shopping at the mall and come home and record what you bought. It sounds silly right? I mean when I heard about it I thought it was a little out there, but then noticed these videos are getting massive views. Which frankly surprised me. But I guess we are all sort of voyeurs and want to see what others do.
I searched for Underwear and Haul on YouTube. I didn’t find any men’s underwear videos. I saw plenty of women sharing their lingerie but only saw one for H&M David Beckham’s line.
I think we need to start a men’s Underwear haul and start posting them. You know from our guys, men’s underwear online in the main stream is way under represented. So let’s change that! Maybe we need to do hauls to show all the new review pairs we have that come in ?

Today’s Brief Distraction is a model, singer and actor! His name is Derek Yates. I found him through the Underwear Nation Model Search Contest. He was one of the two models with the most votes. He didn’t win but what he posted after the contest ended was a class act. He said not to bash the winner, that he won fair and square and to congratulate him! That really impressed me and I thought he definitely deserved some publicity.

Andrew Christian Inc. in conjunction with Island House-Key West released their “Overboard” video last week to rave reviews. Just in time for Spring, this video brings the sunshine and lights up your screen. The water sparkles, the boys’ tans are aglow, and the song “We are the Young Ones” (Hit Feeling Productions) transports you to The Keys.
The video starts on a gorgeous sail boat that is arriving at the Marvin Key Island in Key West Florida. Jon Varak spots the island first and lets the boys know it is time to strip off their jade colored (CoolFlex) underwear, which seems fitting because they are the same color of his eyes! Of course these boys are not shy to drop their briefs and put on their Andrew Christian Anchor Bikinis.
On the island things get a little out of hand, which is to be expected any time you put this group together. Murray and Jon have a hot make out session, right before Murray gives Cory Lee a shot out of his mouth. Luke buries Johna in the sand and Vlad gives him a booty bump to the face. After more shenanigans you have to see to believe, the boys head back to the sail boat.
In a twist that no one saw coming, Cory Lee decides to knock the other models “Overboard.” Without giving too much away, the next thing you see are the gorgeous Island House workers (Antonio Biaggi, Alex Sanchez, and Pablo Hernandez) rescuing the boys from the shore. Antonio’s free balling Baywatch run and Murray faking being dead, now if that doesn’t get your attention…nothing will!
The story does not end there though, as the models are carried away, you realize there is going to be an “Overboard Part 2: The Rescue.” Stay tuned to watch the workers bring the boys back to the Island House-Key West and “nurse” them back to health.
