Here are the first of the UNB Reader Survey results. We will cover the Demographics of the survey part 1 and more on Tuesday.

The majority of our readers are from 25-54. I’m surprised we don’t have younger readers but it’s great to see a good range of people.

It comes as no surprise that 99% of respondents were men. The “other” left this question blank. I would assume that it means men as well. One year we are going to get one or more women to take the survey.

We had a big growth in guys who Identify as bi, we grew to 24% and our straight guys held steady at 32% and gay guys are still the most at 39%

The last of this section is marital status. Over half of you guys are married! I didn’t expect that at all. 31% said they were single. 11% have a significant other, 3% are divorced and 1% are widowed.

Over the last two weeks, I have been reaching out to guys on social media to come on the podcast. Most of these guys are guys I have never talked to or interacted with, and it’s gone as you would think. Some guys think it’s fantastic to be asked to join, and others are unsure about it and are reluctant to say no. This got me thinking, what kind of guys do we want on the show?

• Regular guys – We want just down-to-earth guys. Guys who are talkers and wish to have a great conversation about underwear. Some guys think we want the “hot” guys with muscles and big bulging briefs. Nothing is further from the truth; those guys are welcome but don’t think you have to be super buff to be on the show.
• Loves to talk – I love to speak, as you can tell on the podcast! Guys who love to talk about undies are most definitely welcome. I want the podcast to be a conversation, not an interview. When I think of interviews, I think of stiff discussions with questions, answers, etc. I send out the questions ahead of time, but I will mix them up and even ask more as we talk.
• A love of gear – When I say a love of gear, I want them to love thongs, underwear, speedos, spandex, etc.; no matter what it is, I want a guy to share his passion for the gear he loves. Some of my favorite podcasts were with guys who shared their love.

There are several things guys put up as objections to doing the podcast and let me run through some and say why you should do it

• I hate my voice – OMG, everyone hates their voice! I don’t hate mine because I have podcasted and heard my voice since 2005. But when I first started, I went “OMG do I sound that gay?” Even the guys on the group show still hate their voices, so just forget about that issue.
• I’ll be Nervous – Most guys are nervous when coming on and it’s natural to feel this way. When you come on I have a podcasting spiel I give. First, just relax and have fun. Second, don’t worry about messing up or tripping over words, that’s what editing is for, and if you say “um” “so” and more I cut those out in editing. Trust me editing can do a lot for a show. Plus we can talk prior to the show for as long as you want to calm your nerves. But it’s natural to be nervous about doing something you have never done before.
• I don’t have any special equipment – Well, you only need a phone! We used to record on Skype and Zoom, but I have a new program that records via the phone! So all you need is your smartphone and the rest you leave up to me.
