One shoot I loved was by Scott Barnes. He shot a few different pairs of underwear for us back in 2012. It was an amazing and fun shoot. He had a great eye and I wish we would have done more with him over the years. Sadly, he passed away last year, so we will not have any more shots from him. But the one he did for us is one of my favorites.
Since we don’t do Swimwear Sunday in the fall/winter months, I thought this was appropriate to run on a Sunday. The first question is why did we create the swim brief challenge? And why is this so important to us at UNB?
Why did we create the Swim Brief Challenge?
I have always been a proponent of wearing swim briefs. I have worn them since my late teens and to the present. I don’t have the swimmers body but to hell with what people think. In my younger days, I was more bolder and didn’t care what anyone thought. I have been on the beach with only me in them. I know people prob pointed and laughed when I wasn’t looking but I didn’t care.
Flash forward to UNB and I was talking to a friend who wears them all the time. He asked me, “Why don’t you really challenge guys to wear swim briefs?” He meant to create a challenge and have guys take it. That very first year we really pushed it. We did many posts and really went all out. Years since then we have taken a more low key method of promoting. But we still run it a few times throughout the summer.
In the last two years, we have added the Swim Thong challenge. More guys have skipped from the shorts to the thong. This was something I didn’t see coming. But in the last two year, the swim thongs have taken off with gay and straight guys. It’s great to see the popularity of the style.
Why is this important?
Over the years talking to both gay and straight. They have always wanted to wear swim briefs anywhere they wanted to go. That includes public beaches, family trips, cruises and more. Society, in general, doesn’t accept men in anything that shows a bulge on a guy. If it does then “OMG the children!!!”
We want more acceptance and not have the swim brief be a fodder for insults and jokes. It’s not easy to do in this day an age. There is still a dichotomy in general. There are those of us who love gear and those who don’t. I hope we can get more of the general public to either not care or encourage guys to wear them.
This is how this feature came about and why we do it every year. If you guys take or have taken it to let us know we inspired you to step out of the swimwear box and enjoy yourself for a day or several years!

This week I’m going to write a series of posts on the inner workings of UNB. Some stories you may or may not have heard. I hope
you all enjoy them and get to know why I have done things over the years.
We have done our own shoots since 2010/2011. I always felt we needed to do shoots. The early shoots had more real guys. They were not classified or had ever worked as models. But we got negative feed back from some in the industry and readers. I wanted ‘real guys” and that was my vision for the earlier shoots.
The Early Shoots
These we kinda struggled on. Having never done shoots it was a little bit of getting thrown in the deep end. We had too many pairs in the begging. In one shoot we had 70+ pairs. It was a pure nightmare. The shoot went for hours. After that shoot I said never again. And so far we have kept to that.
We had a lot of models just drop out or no show. We had several shoots that almost weren’t. The 2012 and 2013 holiday shoots almost didn’t happen. Models fell out the night before and that day. We had Matt who got on his phone and found some great guys. It got to the point instead of booking 2-3 models I would book a minimum of 6 in hopes 2 would show up.
One thing I learned quickly is you have to be organized before the shoot. The first really didn’t have a shoot list. It was here is Brand A then Brand B and so on. Now I create a document that lists all and the shoot order. So there is no question on what the guys will wear or what we will shoot.
The Current Shoots
The current shoots are a dream to do and manage. Taylor Campbell, our photog we use, can get the most amazing shots. He will take some and go ok done. The first time I was worried we didn’t get the shot. After seeing the pics I was like “Damn he got several shots.” So now when he says he got it, we move on. I trust him with pics we need.
Our current group of models is amazing. Andrew, Martin, Jacob, Chandler have been the core of the guys. They are always dependable. They aren’t in every shoot because I like to rotate guys in major shoots. I don’t want you guys to go “oh it’s Andrew and Martin again, seen it.” I want you to go “Oh Andrew and Martin are BACK!”
One thing I want to up our game on is video. I am the videographer and run the shoot. It’s a bit much for me to do all myself. I need to branch out and get someone to do the video for me. Some videos have been amazing and others I get the footage and go “Dear God, what the hell is this.” I can say this because I took the video. I have a few ideas for the future.
The Future Shoots
One thing I want in future shoots is more autonomy. More doing our own thing and taking it back to our roots. In previous shoots from 2013ish on we have brands pay to be in the shoot. This time we are going to allow brands in for free but we will pick what we want to shoot. So just because a brand submits it doesn’t mean we show everything we received.
I was planning a few shoots in my mind. Now note these are planned and not set in stone. But there are a few shoots I want to do:
- Real guy shoot – that has a very body positive message
- Thong shoot – thongs are very popular among all guys.
- Swim Thong Shoot – a real shoot of guys on the beach in thongs
- Superhero shoot – this has been long in the works no details just know I’m going to make this happen
- Work out wear shoot – Set in a gym and locker room
Video is big in the future. I want to do a true behind the scenes with talking to the guys and showing fun moments of the shoot. I also want to create our own short length videos as well. But video is a whole nother beast.
These are my insights into the world of UNB photos and videos past, present and future.
Luxury label L’Homme Invisible has just released the new images for its Viridios Line of underwear and T-Shirts. The French underwear and resort wear fashion house created yet another stunning line, featuring elegant styles that ooze confidence. Transparency and organic patterns play a significant role in the Autumn/Winter 2018-19 collection of the Parisian label, offering men today the big trends of tomorrow in underwear fashion.
L’Homme Invisible’s Viridios Line comprises three underwear styles and a T-Shirt, all made from a top quality Italian lace. This delicate fabric is light as a feather and features an organic pattern never seen before in men’s underwear. All the items of this collection are handcrafted to perfection with the male anatomy in mind and put together with black detailing and the fewest seams possible for ultimate comfort. The underwear of this line comes in the trademark V-Boxers Push Up, Invisible Boxers and the String Striptease cuts. One more exquisite item in this line is the Viridios T-Shirt, made from the same lightweight fabric, perfect with the rest of the underwear of this line and your favourite pants alike.
The campaign was photographed in Dublin, Ireland and was directed by the owner of the brand, Sandeep Sahni. The model goes by the name Ricardo and is of cuban descent. His attitude and hyper masculine looks made him the perfect choice to pose in the Viridios line designs. The new collection of the French brand is available from its official e-store and select retailers around the globe.
It’s official, today UNB is 10! When I started UNB I never imagined it would go for so long. I figured that six months to a year and I would be back to work and forget about the blog. Well… my lay off lasted a lot longer than six months, and so did UNB. It has become a major part of my life. Some days I wish I could relax and others I love everything about the site. I know today is our Anniversary because we renew our domain today!
When searching through some old files I ran across the 5 year post I did and thanking everyone. It doesn’t seem like that was written that long ago. I’ll try to link to it, if I can remember what I called it!
People that I must thank for all the help and support over the years
- Eric from Baskit who has always been one of the best peeps in the industry
- Greg and Alex from GO Softwear who have given me so many lessons in underwear production.
- Brian from Seven Continents Photography for getting our real shoots off the ground.
- Taylor Campbell for continuing our super fun shoots
- Matt from now defunct Designer Drawers for being a model, model wrangler and help me dream for big things at the site.
- Osgon in Texas for being a loyal reader and amazing guy
- UNB John for being the most amazing first Asst Editor
- UNB Salvatore for being a great Asst Editor and amazing friend
- Undies Dude for being the longest staff member and just a good guy
- UNB Alex for starting our video reviews and being a social media super star
- Martin & Andrew for continuing the video reviews and always making my day with reviews and help when needed
- Kathy for always showing me new stuff back home because we never talk about them in Vegas
- Chris, Erik, and Andy for helping me reinstate the Podcast and being super fun to work with and always bringing great ideas to the table.
I know there are plenty of more people I am leaving out. I will remember people for the next week. I’ll go I should have included (insert name). Without these people above and a lot more, UNB would not have succeeded.
And now those who didn’t help…. Just kidding. I am going to keep it positive.
What’s instore for UNB for the next 10 years? That’s a good question, when I find out I”ll let you know. LOL. I have some plans but I plan on keep doing the site for as long as I can. This year we are going to celebrate the 10 years all year long. Could there be some cool giveaways, um maybe. Could we have some amazing new videos, um maybe. Could we grow our straight readers, um, maybe.
Stay tuned for more this year!!!

Some you may have seen and others you may already love. As you can see over the 10 years we have grown quite a bit! We hope you have enjoyed the slide show

Today is the day UNB turns 10! I wanted to share my favorite picture over the year. It’s hard because we have had so many great pics. But the one I settled on was from the UNB Swimwear Guide from 2015. I took this pic of Chandler as a boat drove by on the water. He said a big howdy to them! I loved this pic so much that it is on the UNB business cards.
One thing that I know about you guys is you LOVE skimpy! This week the Hung Micro G-String is one I think you guys need to check out! It’s super fun and super skimpy! So, for many of you it’s a win-win! Even some of our own guys here will definitely be after this one.
The official description is:
For a devilishly good time, Hung G-String is a self supporting, sexy and erotic undergarment that holds its place on its own. The fabric covers up the essentials and still allows one to get an even tan. You can wear it under any type of clothes. By appearance it is sexy on the front and as well as the back.
In the world of men’s underwear, it’s a definite g-string. A g-string has a thin waistband and a pouch. In the back is a simple string, usually the same size as the waistband. It comes in four different colors. They are Navy, White, Black and Grey. It has a seam down the front that is a contrasting color. On the navy pair, it’s a red seam. I personally love this feature of the pair. It accents the front. The back doesn’t need any more accents.
If you love thongs/g-strings check out this pair!
Pair: Hung Micro G-String
Color: Navy, White, Black and Grey
Fabric: 81.9% Nylon 18.1% Spandex
Sizes: Small – X-Large
Price: $15.40
It’s a great day for a TBT! We choose one of the best pics from Gregg Homme Ever. This picture is from October 2014 and features underwear and super hot sneakers. They have so many great pics over the years but this is my favorite.
If you are familiar with Scruff dating app and RuPaul’s Drag Race you may have seen the Scruff underwear. The Pit Crew wore them on a season or two. However, they were never available to buy. Well, they still aren’t available to buy but you can win some of them and the WOOF socks.
The picture above features founder Johnny Skandros. He currently runs the app/site and we hope to see this released to the general public. I personally love it when non-underwear companies put out their own undies!!! What do you think of the line?
Looking for some good jocks, you have come to the right site today! One to look into is the Good Boy Gone Bad Alden Mesh Jock. Super stylish and fun! Check out this and more at the Good Boy Gone Bad site.
It’s Jockstrap Wednesday. One new brand that I have seen on Instagram is Dark Room. I told you, if you’re not on Instagram you won’t find new brands. This brand is by @djpjm1 (on the right in the picture above). He’s an influencer and International Go Go dancer. I have followed him for a few years on the IG. On the right is his Fiance @thesan_edin. They created this super fun brand.
I wasn’t aware that the Dark Room line has gone LIVE. Now I see the line and it skews on the fetish side. With a name like Dark Room, you really shouldn’t be surprised. I will say that the gear has been pretty fun! In addition to the jocks they have harnesses, t-shirts and more!
The jock is designed for maximum fun. The pouch, which is the most important part of the jock, is a push-up pouch. That will give you an extra boost and look good from any angle. The waistband has the “Dark Room” name with logo. On the back, it has the signature branded pouch. One feature I like is the white stripe down the front. It and the white trim makes the black pair pop! Mix that with the white straps and I think it’s an awesome design.
You can mix this pair with all of the gear on the Dark Room site. It really works well with the singlets (both elastic and leather.) Perfect for a night out or in, just depends on what you have in mind. I hope we see a lot more gear from Dark Room. This jock is a great start. We will keep you posted as they grow.
Pair: Dark Room Jockstrap
Color: Black
Fabric: 96% Cotton, 4% Elastane
Sizes: Small – X-Large
Price: £24.99
It’s time to stock up on awesome undies! There are two great things happening at Baskit. First, is the $12 Tuesday pair is the Billy Boy Boxer Brief. If you are a boxer brief fan, this needs to be in your underwear drawer!!! It’s super comfy and comes with a pocket!! It’s available in three colors: Red, Green or Blue.
The second is Baskit is calling October “Jock Month” and doing 25% off all jocks/jockbriefs this month, so you don’t need a Tuesday to shop this sale. Go shop the Baskit site.
Have you checked out some of the amazing and small styles of Daniel Alexander! They have some great cuts and some amazing colors. Check them out.
I had big plans to work on UNB this weekend. I have a to-do list of about 20 things to accomplish. But, passing a kidney stone followed by throwing out my back (the same day I pass the stone). Made this weekend pretty much a lay in bed and watch Netflix. This past week I felt like it was time fo some new gear. Some are going to be reviewed on UNB and some are just for me.
One thing I love is singlets. One brand I have wanted to try and may get another is Gruff Pup. He has some of the best singlets. I got two. One for me and one for a new reviewer. The two we got were the Impulse singlet and Combat singlet (with a cut out). I’m trying the camo, and a cutout singlet is new for me, I figured why not!
Next up are some clearance suits from Sluggers. I love their swimwear and they had a massive clearance sale where you get a pair of swim for $14.99 US. I got two pairs. So i”m super excited about them. Now i need a place to wear them!
Last in the group is the Skinzwear thong we profiled last week for Thong Thursday. It’s a swim thong for 20 bucks. I ordered one to give it a try. I haven’t had a swim thong in many years. Scruffy Gear blog has encouraged me as well as Bikinisnthongs. This will be a review but I don’t think I’ll have an actual swim review more of an overview.
I have the singlets the rest I”m waiting for more to come in the mail. I hope to have a few new Andrew Christian pairs as well. Stay tuned. I”m taking it easy until the back is better, It’s way better but not great!!
Russian photographer Pavel Lepikhin collaborated with european swimwear brand WAPO for a series of photos of fitness model Pierre.
