What are the factors that we evaluate when buying underwear. I’m not only talking new brands but brands we know. We all have something different we look for and have different body types. Some issues that face guys are: endowment, butt size, long torso, shorter legs, stocky builds, thin builds, muscular thighs and the list goes on. Each of these brings a challenge to find great underwear. Adding this on top of our own fashion style, favorite color and fabrics makes it seem that finding a great pair is impossible. But if you’re like me this decision has become second nature. You evaluate tons of criteria all at once:

My own factors for finding great underwear are:

  • Sizing – The first qualification that can knock a pair out of consideration. I’m a tall stocky guy and down to a 36 (on a good day). Many pairs either just go up to a 36 or run too small for me to wear. There is nothing worse than putting on a pair of underwear and you can nearly get it on, but not quite!
  • Pouch – As long time readers know i’m an endowed guy so the pouch is a major factor. It has to cover me with out anything falling out
  • Materials – Nothing worse than a pair of underwear made out of itchy fabric. Two of my favorites are spandex/lycra blend and Modal. Both fit very well and conform to my body. I love soft and stretchy fabric.
  • Cut – My cut of choice are briefs. I like everything from bikinis to full sized briefs. I’m not a big fan of boxer briefs or trunks. I just love the feel and fit of briefs. They hold everything just right. Other cuts I like are thongs, jocks, jock briefs.
  • Color – I am not one guy who’s turned off by color, quite the opposite. I love bright colors and yes I do have pink undies. If given a choice between white/black or color I will most often choose the color. I’m not too big a pattern guy but its not a deal breaker. The brighter the color the more I like it.
  • Waistbands – It wouldn’t be a complete list without a waistband on the list. A great waistband can sell me on a pair. Creative and fun designs are the best. I think so many brands miss out on this opportunity to add something to a pair.
  • Brands I know – Its a bigger chance I will just buy a pair if I know the brand and have tired it before. Well, for impulse purchases

These are some of the decisions that lead to my buying new undies. Let’s hear from you guys! What do you use to buy new undies.

vegasI’m counting the days down till Vegas. These are my favorite weeks of the year. I’m like a kid at Christmas! I get excited when I get on the plane and head out. I have my list together and ready to meet with some favorite brands. Some of the ones I”m meeting with N2N Bodywear, Andrew Christian, Baskit, 2(X)ist, Frank Dandy, Papi and more!

I would love to ask some of the brand your questions. If you have time over the weekend email me or tweet me who and what you want me to ask. While at the shows next week getting on the web and social media is difficult. You have tens of thousands people in a confined space and no cell service.

If you have something you want me to ask, email me at info at underwearnewsbriefs dot com or send a tweet to @unbtim

We are working to get you guys involved in the process so feel free to speak up!

While I am in Vegas, check my Twitter and Instagram each night!

I was really excited to try this pair out. The previous Trophy Boy pair I bought from Andrew Christian has been one of my favorites so this one I hoped would live up to the expectations I had for it.  The one thing that struck me was the Trophy Boy branded waistband. Every other pair has and Andrew Christian logoed band. This one I think they did because if you see it over the top of your jeans you will know exactly what it means.

One reason I really like this range is because it gives extra room. Granted not all guys are a like, but those of us who need it, its always appreciated. Andrew Christian has done great things for pouches with men. It started with the Almost Naked line and now is part of the Trophy Boy line!

I wore these running errands again. From the time I got up till 6 PM I was on the go. I choose this pair for this day because I knew from the previous pair it would hold up well. And this pair really didn’t disappoint.  They gave me great support through out the day running around and being on the go. The worst things that can happen to me are to loose support or have the undies bunch up. I loved the waistband but don’t think any one who saw it knew what I was wearing. It kind of makes you want to show it off to see who notices and knows what it is.

Andrew Christian is good with sizing. He doesn’t go up too big in the XL but if you look at the size chart you should be able to find the right size.  I haven’t heard to much negative about their sizing except that many wished the upper sizes went to 40 rather then 36. But I have a 38 waist and the XL fit me very well.

The only complaint and it seems to be a common one with this is the legs are a little tight when you put them on. Not sure why that is but if you have big thighs you may not like these. I haven’t had this problem with previous lines but all the new undies from AC seem to have this. Things I did like were the pouch, which fit great. It gives you a very ergonomic support. It feels like the underwear was made just for you. I Love the new branded waistband, it makes you feel a little cheeky if someone saw it.

Pros:

  • Ergonomic designed pouch, feels made for me
  • New Trophy Boy branded waistband
  • Great materials

Cons:

  • Tight in the legs, so guys with bigger thighs maybe too tight
  • XL just goes up to 36 waist.

ac-almost-naked-air-jockWe posted our first review yesterday with Alex’s Video review and we have quite a few more Andrew Christian pairs to review! The pair I got to review is the Limited Edition Almost Naked Holiday Air Jock. Wearing jock briefs always makes me feel a bit naughty. I’m not sure why, after so many years wearing underwear and every style imaginable you don’t think I would, but I do!

I was really excited to try this because it’s a very light pair and has one of my most favorite pouches. The Almost Naked line ahs been one of the favorite lines I have since it first came out. It’s a pair that fits and gives amazing support. This pouch never lets me down!

What did the review consist of? Well it was a Monday and I wanted a pair that would make the day bright. This did just that, the read breathable material and the gold waistband made me very happy. I wore it through a busy day at work and then followed by errands for the afternoon. It held up great. I was super happy. When I slide these on the legs was a little tight. They didn’t bind or stay stiff.

I know there are guys who don’t want a jock brief because they don’t like the cut out in the back. This pair is I really didn’t notice the cut out that much. It really felt like a brief. The material was super light and felt great. So the combination of the two made this a great pair for me.

The sizing with Andrew Christian is pretty much as said on the size charts. The only complaint I have is the pairs are a little tight to put on in the legs, but that doesn’t distract from the pair. I wore an XL and have a closer to 38 waist right now, gained a few back, but they fit great.

Pros:

  • Limited Edition Pair
  • Great materials
  • Felt like a brief
  • Almost Naked pouch

Cons:

  • Legs were a little tight
  • Not for all guys unless you like a jock brief

2xist-turbo2(X)ist has a new line out this week and it’s called Turbo! You may be asking why is it called Turbo? Well, I would say it’s because of the moisture wicking fabric. Lately there has been more of a trend to making underwear for sports and working out. More companies pay attention to how a guy uses their undies and what they are doing. You don’t want to go to the gym/run/be active in cotton underwear.

The fabric they are using is 89% Nylon/11% spandex blend. So it will move with you and take moisture away from your body. The second thing you will notice is the colors. They came out with some amazingly bright colors. They include blue, black, red, yellow and white.  Each as a contrasting color on the site.

Thats not all they have a new branded waistband with the 2(X)its logo on the left hip. It matches the color of the underwear. The styles available are the Jock, No-Show Trunk, No-Show Brief and a tank. They range from $26-34 at the 2(X)ist Website
