Men’s Swimwear

july29-sliderThe Rio games are in full swing. Swimmers are in the pool making world records and winning gold medals. Gymnasts are vaulting and somersaulting. And insert many more sports for the summer. Now that all eyes are on Rio, will all eyes be on the swimwear? Known for their Sunga swimwear for men, will we see it take the spotlight and go mainstream?

Swimmers now wear Jammers. Long spandex short like suits. Divers are the only one still sporting the swim brief. But for the most part of the games they are a long ago memory of days past. However, the people in Brazil are proudly sporting their Sungas. The Wall Street Journal made a long post on it today. “Locals are showing off their Sungas on Rio’s Beaches.” I would say read it because swimwear made mainstream press.

However, that said It feels more like a “Oh look at them” piece in the WSJ. The mainstream press in the US always makes underwear and swimwear more of a butt of the joke  rather than actually talking about the history and why Brazilians wear them. This short Paragraph sticks out:

The men’s swim brief—also known as the man-kini, banana hammock or marble bag—is rarely used in the U.S. outside competitive swimming circuits, as its predominant nickname in English, the speedo, suggests. But in Brazil, the so-called sunga is a favorite for male beachgoers of all sizes, shapes and ages. – Wall Street Journal

This detracts from the advice they gave about who should wear what color of Sunga. Which is great advice, but gets lost after talking about how a guy used sunscreen behind NBC’s on-air coverage one day. I, also, think they have the definition wrong as well. Our friends at CARIOCA have this definition on their site ”

def. SUNGA (SOONGA):
Is the Brazilian word for men’s swimwear. Sungas are made from heavier nylon and are cut to form a nearly horizontal band across the body.
Unlike swim briefs or banana hammocks, they are nylon with no pouch design. The slough design will create a pouch for guys. Plus, they are typically bigger than most swim briefs. Looking at the CARIOCA swimwear site the sunga is 15 cm. I personally would have no problem wearing one on the beach in Brazil or in the US.
It’s time we have press that looks at men’s swimwear and underwear with open eyes.Let’s look into the history and why Brazilians are wearing them. Instead of gawking at people who do wear them as some sort of eyesore or freaky guy. I’ll get off my soapbox now. It just kinda pissed me off big time after reading this article.

clever-moda-0617_Grape_1It’s Swimwear Sunday. We will have just a few more of these. At the end of the month we will discontinue this feature. Since most of our readers are in the Northern Hemisphere, it won’t warrant a full post. Don’t worry, we still will be covering swimwear on a regular basis. Just not a day for it in our editorial calendar.

Each collection brings new swimwear. For those of us in the US, we are quickly leaving swim season. While those in the southern hemisphere are going to be just starting swim season. This year Clever has a brief, short and trunk. All in the same design. The new ones are:

The 2016-2 collection of swimwear is all prints. There aren’t any solid ones in the bunch. Yes, they still have solids in the line-up. The new ones are going bold and a lot of fun. We aren’t going to go into much detail on the individual sets of suits. All the styles are the same, the only thing different is the patterns. The new ones are:

The new swimsuit collections are:

Scandinavian Swim Short – Clever 0618

Arawak Collection

Arawak Trunk – Clever 0613

Arawak Brief – Clever 0617

I am loving this swimwear collection. I think its a totally bold move to do all prints in your swimwear. Some have done a few pairs but not all out prints. Prints have been HUGE in the world of underwear. It’s starting to move more into swimwear. Yes, we’ve had some tropical prints but the geometric prints are really starting to take hold.

Clever swim briefs are always on the more traditional cut. Meaning that they around 2 or more inches wide. They have never been known for making super skimpy cuts in the swim.

If you love these make sure you click the links to check them out! Find them at the Clever Moda site.

The 2016 games in Rio are about to kick off. There will be plenty of swimming, diving, gymnastics and more for us to binge on. What is a good way to celebrate the games? You could watch them on TV or if you’re lucky enough to attend them in person! If you can’t do the later show your support with swimwear.

Each Games they produce suits for each games. I remember when the games were here in Atlanta. I bought an official US suit with the games logo on it. I wore it a few times and then retired it. I still have it in one of my drawers. The games also inspires other brands to create limited edition suits as well. Its a great time to shop for suits!

What better way to celebrate the games than with this CA-RIO-CA Rio 2016 games suit! The Sunga is a traditional swimwear of Brazil. It’s made similar to a swim brief but a bit bigger. CA-RIO-CA says that Sunga is the Brazilian word for men’s swimwear. Sungas are made from heavier nylon and are cut to form a nearly horizontal band across the body. Take note that there is no built-in pouch. The slouch of the suit will create a pouch.

The Rio 2016 Games suit is inspired by the Rio games logo. It’s a white background with their take on the logo. I really love the design of this suit. It’s definitely one you will remember on the beach. Plus you will be showing your support for the game.

If you want to find out more about the brand. Our own Austin interviewed CA-RIO-CA a few months ago.  He got an in-depth look into the company.

It’s Swimwear Sunday! Today we are bringing you a new pair from aussieBum. This pair is not for the budget conscious swim brief wearer. It’s one on the more expensive end. Some may scoff at this pair but there are swim briefs in every possible price ranges!

The pair we are profiling is the LUXE Line Snapper. It is one of the most recent swimwear releases from aussieBum. What makes this pair so expensive? aussieBum teamed up with France’s leading boutique fabric knitting company. aussieBum says this is a game changer in the world of swimwear!

Fabric is the most important thing in swimwear/underwear. This new fabric is a 97% Polyamide, 3% Elastane blend. It’s very high end fabric. aussieBum adds “Made in Australia by our talented craftspeople, LUXE brings sophistication and elevates your personal style for any summer holiday event. Expect the very best and we guarantee you will not be disappointed”

The one thing I really love about this pair is the design. It’s very classic in styling. The brief is a simple white with black stripes. It’s also a pair that you could wear more than one season. Add in the high quality fabric, it should hold up for multiple seasons!

In the LUXE collection this is the only swim brief. There are a few more hipsters. They range from great prints to an almost solid white. It’s a really fun collection. I think that aussieBum outdid themselves in making this new range. It’s stylish and pretty awesome!

You can find the LUXE Line Snapper on the aussieBum site. If you want something classic and well made. Definitely give the new LUXE range a look through in either the brief or hipster.

n2n Bodywear Daredevil (1)N2N Bodywear furnished the N2N Eclipse Swim Brief

Rating: 8.5/10

  • Daily Fit: 8/10
  • Sizing: 8/10
  • Construction: 9/10
  • Daily Performance: 9/10

Pros: Cute cut, mix of colors, sexy as you’d expect.

Cons: A bit tight, light weight fabric can be revealing (might also go in the Pro column, you decide).

Beau Briefs recommendation: If the color combos really speak to you then this is a good classic cut pair to get.

Good lord I love swim season! Trying on new pairs, finding new colors that you never would have worn before. Knowing when a cut is just right for you, and the list goes on. The Eclipse swim briefs are another great example of fine swim wear from N2N. I recently review the N2N Stellar Sport and the two share a lot of the same excellent qualities. One of the things that all N2N things share, and that I know is a very proud thing for their creator and founder. Is that they are all made in L.A., and I think deserves a shout out!

The cut of N2N’s swim briefs are top notch. The cut up the leg from the crotch is both alluring and yet still fully covering (for those who want to fully cover). The swoop of the cut is just so to nicely highlight the bulge while also giving just amount of highlight to those toned legs. I think we all wish we have (I should hit the gym today…). So needless to say, I am a big fan of the construction and cut of this pair. If you love a good, classic speedo I have a feeling you will love it too.

The color was at first worrisome to me. I must confess I have never really worn olive… and when I saw what other colors it came in I was seeing red. No literally, it comes in red, blue, and orange. However, as we all must sometimes admit, I was wrong. The olive is actually an extremely flattering color. Now given my complexion I am either one shade darker than Elmer’s Glue or I am pleasantly light gold. I found both of those work nicely with the olive. Other skin tones and colors play very well with olive as I went online to look up. So shame on me for assuming it drab because as the end rhyme would suggest it’s actually fab.

Now I did run into the two same ellipses inspiring issues that are not actually problems they are just…how things are. First, the sizing on the butt is an issue for me. My waist and all is not a Medium but my butt often is not a Small. Where is my Smedium?!?!? The pair is still completely wearable and actually brings the butt in tighter given the circumstances. The second…issue… is that when things are…distinct down in the package area it can sometimes be semi (hehehe) visible. Now, as I stated in the beginning, decide for yourself whether that goes in the Pros or Cons column.

Overall these are a fine, playful, and as it is N2N, naturally sexy pair of swim briefs. They are well made and the cut and construction is lovely. They are fun and flattering, from the color to the color contrasting swoop on the front. And they are sexy. So stun them all on the beach in blue, red, orange, or olive and you’ll have them all green with envy.

Ratings:

Overall – 8.8/10

Undies Rock Recommendations: The B65 Daredevil is a risqué cut pair of swimmers. That is a total hit for more intimate occasions. So if you are in in search for the perfect string bikini. Then post up and add these swimmers to your shopping list, now!

Undiesrock rock here coming at you with another N2N review for a saucier pair of swimmers. The (B65) Daredevil; the name captures it all.  This daring pair isn’t remotely for the conservative of heart. Let me tell you if you are looking for some straight up sexy swimmers then look no further.

For those of you who have been following N2N for years. You know that the daredevil cut has existed for quite some time.  It’s essentially N2N’s version of a string bikini swimmer.  I know I have been praising this generations of N2N’s gear quality to the max with my previous reviews. This pair is the top of the mountain. I personally purchased the last three generations of the daredevil cut. This latest release is exactly what I have always wanted for a string bikini briefs!  They nailed everything from the seamless, roomy, comfy pouch to the sufficient amount of string bikini for the sides. To the secure fit (tight but not to the point where the side strings dig into your hips). One of my biggest pet peeves with string bikinis is that there isn’t ever enough string on the hips. Typically for string bikinis the photo(s) of the model wearing the product differs drastically from what you get in real life. Usually you only get an inch or so of “string”. Long story short, the Daredevil has serious string bikini game.

I received my Daredevil in the color Ice Blue in size medium. I have mentioned before, the construction of this pair is rock solid.  The 83% nylon and 17% spandex material provides the right amount of give and support. It has sort of a metallic look to it.  N2N’s pouches are always impeccable and this string bikini is no exception.  It has a sufficient amount of room and has an anatomical vibe. Which I found to have more of a narrow fit, but who cares, because this bikini has a seamless front! Which is all that matters ;-).  The entire bikini is unlined. Which I really dig, though it can be a transparent when wet. So just be cautious if you don’t want your junk all the way out there.  Though this feature was a huge hit with my s/o.

I have a 33” waist, and I reviewed a medium which is sized for a 30”-34” waist. The fit definitely hit the spot in all the right places.  In previous versions I have owned. I found that the butt was a little too high rise and just in general had an awkward loose fit in the pouch.  This pair resolved all of those issues.  The pair I own is in Ice Blue. It has a contrasting black trim and muted metallic sheen, which I find to be a nice aesthetic touch.  You can also get this pair in White and Goldenrod, which also have the black trim.  If you’re into prints. Then you’re in luck because N2N offers the B70 Daredevil Prints which have a tropical/Hawaiian flower vibe. That come in Havana Red and Malibu Blue.

The only downside to this pair is minor scuffing on the material after just one wash.  I simply wore the pair to the beach under my shorts (these seriously double as underwear perfectly). After I machined washed on light and hung them out to air-dry. I found that there were little scuffs markings. Which I washed with other swimmers that were come out perfectly fine.  It’s only noticeable when the pair is right in your face, so it doesn’t look tacky.  I recommend hand washing them only since they are delicate.

Right now these are going for $26 directly on the N2N website. Which really isn’t a bad price, considering that a good pair can cost you upwards of $100 these days.  Also please keep in mind that if you’re into prints the B70 Daredevil Prints are $28.  The B65 Daredevil is a risqué cut pair of swimmers that is a total hit for more intimate occasions. So if you are in in search for the perfect string bikini. then post up and add these swimmers to your shopping list, now!

Summer is in full swing! They weekends are filled with pool parties and days at the beach. You don’t want to wear the same suite to two parties. Well, some of you don’t like to wear the same suit to different events. One company you should consider is Alexander Cobb! They have a new swimwear collection for this summer!

What’s new in this collection? The SS 2016 features the following:

  • 100% European underwear and swimwear producer. We design, define and deliver
  • Padded support (foam) integrated in the products, with lift-up technology to create better pouch
  • The top material quality from a leading European manufacturer
  • Easy to dry, hold well, the materials consists of ultraviolet protected factor 50+
  • Revolution Energy – a fabric of high compression
  • Xtra Life Lycra – keep its shape over a longer period of time
  • Size range from S to XXL

One of the features is the lift up. It may sound different. They list two advantages to having the padded pouch. The first is it will “increase volume” in the front. Giving you a fuller effect on the pouch. Some guys will need this while some of our readers won’t. The second is that the padding also won’t show off everything when exiting the water. Not all guys like to show it all off. This feature will make sure you look good without showing off too much.

Alexander Cobb features briefs, trunks and swim shorts. The pair we are featuring is the Serengeti Trunk. It’s the red version of the Trunk. The white trim makes this pair pop. If red isn’t your color you can try one of the other styles. We chose the trunk because many out there want something form fitting but want something other than a brief. These I think are pretty sexy but not too small.

Find these and more at the Alexander Cobb site.

Pros: Unlined, Semi-Natural Pouch Hang

Cons: Unlined

SALVATORE Recommendation: Here I am living in Tropical Paradise where most men wear long board shorts or trunks. Granted, shorter swimsuits are in, but I think guys are missing a great opportunity to look great in a swim brief. As you all know, here at UNB, we have put a lot of emphasis on swim briefs. From our swim guides to a series of posts about skimping down this Summer on the beach. We think swim briefs are an awesome alternative to the super long shorts. That take forever to dry when you get out of the water and inhibit greatly one’s ability to move in the water.

Honestly, the most natural way to swim is naked.  But that is currently outlawed in most areas of the good ole US of A. With that said, we also recognize that many men are very uncomfortable bearing all in a swim brief on a beach that mainly covered in board shorts. Coming to Hawaii has been a great experience. I am constantly puzzled by what I see guys and gals wearing on the sands of Waikiki and other hot spots. The men are shorts wearers and ironically, the ladies seem to prefer the Brazilian cut and thong back. Who would have thought???? Let’s stay away from those topics for now and look at a great swim brief that I’d recommend to the guy looking to see if he likes the idea. But might not be ready to strip down.

Let me recommend the N2N Tempest Sport Brief. As something that you can wear underneath your shorts with the idea to strip down, or something that you can wear by itself. This is a great brief for either occasion. Here are few things that I liked about the design.

Pouch: Because N2N does a brilliant job with fabric selection in all of it’s products. Most of their underwear, swimwear, and loungewear meet my definition of a natural pouch. This swim brief did exactly that. With 92% being Polyester and 8% being Spandex. The fabric blend allows for your sacred spaced to have plenty of space. One of things I hate about traditional swim briefs is the bulky lining that seems to bunch up the boys. This swim brief is unlined leaving you with a true underwear intimate feel. I see this as a definite positive in most situations. I also see this as a negative for the circumcised male as the impression is quite impressionable and might not be appropriate for every occasion. You will have to decide. On my honeymoon many moons ago. I remember seeing a very sexy and extremely tanned European man wearing an opaque white skimpy bikini that was unlined at the pool. He was proud and so were all of the women staring at him. I don’t have the body he had and am not sure my wife would appreciate all of the of the attention focused on my junk.

Drawstring: Not every bikini has a drawstring. This brief does. This allows you to freely maneuver in the water without worry that you’ll lose your drawers. However, because the brief is unlined. The impression of the drawstring is visible from time to time making for an odd look on the pouch. Side note—be careful to groom your pubic hair if you are going to wear an unlined swim bikini. A bush impression on the crotch is as bad a drawstring impression on a crotch.

Cut: The cut of the brief is a hybrid between a true bikini and a traditional competitive swimmers suit. This allows you to get an awesome tan without feeling like you are wearing a string bikini. The hybrid cut also maintains a full seat so you don’t feel like you have a wedgie all day. The cut is spectacular and sexy. The seat stays in place and leg bands are very comfortable. N2N nailed this aspect of the brief.

Logo: The very small N2N logo displayed on the rear of the right hip is the perfect size. Not over the top like some of the brands that plaster the logo across the entire butt (N2N does this occasionally). But just right to let the other underwear enthusiasts know that you have style. The branding on this swim brief is subtle and perfect—a special coded simple that speaks to the heart of underwear collector.

Overall, I think this is a stunning visual representation of classy and sexy. The two colors are great—bold enough to turn heads, but not so bold to get gawkers! As always, I love that N2N now offers this brief in multiple prints. I enjoy wearing mine under trunks or out in the open. Get yours and give this well thought out brief a shot at the beach, the pool, or just tanning on the roof.

Page-2-Image-3We hope you are enjoying summer and rocking some great swimwear. There are still a few months left to Summer and if you haven’t bought your swimwear. Or if you just want some new pairs that people haven’t seen. The BCNU Utilty Wear Hero line maybe what you’re looking for in swimwear. BCNU is out of Australia and is a pretty cool company. They started in work out wear and last year brought out the first swimwear line. Now they have the Hero line.

I had the chance to talk to BCNU this past week. They have some great gear out there and I think we will see a lot more from them. The latest line is the Hero line. The Hero line has used the latest technology to make something pretty awesome. BCNU invested time and effort into meeting what their research showed.

Research indicates that 60% of Australian men do not feel comfortable wearing traditional swimwear. Most citing that the thin fabrics used, lack of reasonable hold and show through especially when coming out of the water, are the main reasons they would not wear traditional swimwear styles.

While we have plenty of guys who like to show off. If you’re new to swim briefs or want to wear them in a more family friendly area. Its important that you don’t show off everything. You don’t want to have the fabric go see through or not have support. But, you still want to look great in the swimwear. BCNU put in a lot of time and effort to create this new line. I”m seriously impressed by all the technology used in this line. We are starting to see more companies taking the technology of swimwear and underwear seriously.

So what makes this line so awesome? Here are  few reasons BCNU told us

  1. No more show through – constructed using 2 fabrics and over 7 months of design research and planning to create the perfect style to wrap around your body like a glove keeping your manhood nice and snug.
  2. Fast drying technology – Designed so that water passes through the first layer directly into the second layer which funnels out the water rapidly once you’re out of the water.
  3. SPF 100+ – Highest protection than any other swim product on the market today
  4. Cutting edge technology – using revolutionary Two Tone Double Layer Polyamide (2TDLP) construction and bonded using glue used in NASA spacesuits
  5. The advertising campaign imagery is inspired by Super Heroes. We hope this collection makes him feel heroic, invincible, daring and courageous.

Again, it’s great to see a company using some of the latest technology to make really great swimwear. The Hero line is one that is perfect starter pair for someone wanting to wear a swim brief. It will not show off or be see through. It’s fast drying and uses the latest technology in fabric and design. Lastly it will make you feel like a super hero!

You Should Own One - Speedo Solar Swim Brief

To preface this post a bit, I do prefer more of a bikini style swim brief or micro brief. My favorite swim brief is the HOM micro swim brief, which they no longer produce. The one I’m going to suggest that you should have in your collection. Is between a typical swim brief and a micro brief.

I’ll call this brief the skimpiest conservative swimsuits that is perfect to wear anywhere you please. It should be acceptable swim attire everywhere that it is acceptable for a women to wear a bikini. It’s a swim brief that pretty much gives you full frontal and rear cover. The best feature is it has narrower sides than a typical swim brief. This suit is made by Speedo and they list it as one of their best sellers. So what swim brief is it that I think everyone should own?

If you haven’t guessed by now or figured it out from the picture. The swimsuit I’m talking about is the Speedo Solar 1″ Brief. This is one case where I think a well known brand is somewhat of a benefit. With Speedo being a big swim brand, I think it helps some with acceptability. This is especially so, since swim briefs still seem to be shunned to some extent. Normally, I don’t recommend something because it is a particular brand, a trending brand, or a big brand. But doesn’t hurt in this case.

This suit is great for reducing your tan lines at least a bit more over a normal swim brief. Though the sides are more of 1 1/2″ width than the 1″ stated. They’re well made with them being the Speedo brand. It’s a great fitting swim brief and one that will stay where it belongs swimming or in the waves. This is also a great transition swim brief for those wanting to go from a full swim brief to more of a micro swim brief. So far I have 5 styles/colors of this swim brief and would not hesitate to add more. Once I finally break into a full fledged swim brief wearer at the beach. This is going to be my go to conservative swim brief.

Running a pair of mesh, totally see through swim wear is not something we would usually show on a Tuesday. It’s more of a Fetish Friday type of event. BodyAware is known for their unorthodox styles, fabric and design sense. The Good Vibes Mesh Swim Briefs is one of those pairs!

The Good Vibes Swim Briefs are made out of a light weight industrial mesh. That as the BodyAware site says “Hides nothing.” As you can see by the pics that pretty much is true. This is not a pair I would expect to see on many beaches. It’s more of a private pool or resort area.

The Good Vibes Mesh Swim Brief as described by BodyAware “With comfortable elastic around the waist, two straps at the each hip trimmed in sultry black binding, and our miniature BodyAware metal logo patch on the side pocket. With a sleek full back.” I am not sure I would wear this pair but I know we have plenty of readers who will love this suit.

You maybe asking why are we profiling such a very out there pair? We like to, for a lack of better word, cover the industry. There are times when it will be things you can wear on the beach and other times not. This could be a great pair for a get away on a private beach or resort with your partner.

We also, always love our readers to step outside your comfort zone and try something new. This can be worn as swimwear or underwear. Now that I think about it, it could be also worn on a bar night in certain bars. Remember underwear/swimwear is about having fun, and this pair says FUN!
