Men’s Underwear

Category

One of the biggest trends in men’s underwear, we are seeing, are pouches. Pouches made for guys to feel great and have amazing support. Joe Snyder is a company that has been known to have some smaller pouches. When I talked to them in Vegas a few years ago, they acknowledged it and said they would be rectifying the pouch situation. It started with the Pride Frame and now the SK Collection, aka Mini Cheek Sock It

When I first saw the collection, it caught me a little off-guard. Why? Because it’s so not what I expect from Joe Snyder. They have a look and style that they have been known for and it’s worked well for them. The SK Bikini, I thought was from another brand. I did a double take when I saw it was Joe Snyder.

I applaud them for stepping out of the tried and true designs. Doing something different and taking a risk. I think it is one that will pay off big for them in the long run. The pair to me is super sexy. I want a pair now! The pouch looks amazing. They look like they can fit the bigger boys and still have plenty of room left over!  As you can see from the image above, the pouch looks small. However, from the side, you can see how big it is.

The minimal waistband will be a welcome addition by guys who aren’t fans of big waistbands. Another plus as far as I’m concerned is the full back. From the looks of the front, you would assume that its got a half back or less. The full coverage and great pouch makes this a win!

One thing I have always loved about Joe Snyder is the use of colors. They always release their pairs in amazing colors. Their well-known purple, pink and navy are all included. As are others such as the white and black mesh. Regardless of your color prefernce, you will find your perfect color.

2017 is almost here. Are you making a resolution this year? Maybe one of the typical ones like lose weight, eat healthier, or exercise more. All great things that a lot of us including me would benefit from. How about one related to underwear or swimwear?

You could go as simple as trying out a new brand or style of underwear or swimwear. Maybe go a little more challenging and strike up a conversation on the topic with someone you haven’t. Possibly a real challenging one like wearing a swim brief in public for the first time. You could always do multiple resolutions at varying difficulties for the new year.

My resolutions over the years have always been related to one of my long term goals. That is for me to become a full time swim brief wearer and get the I don’t care what people think mind set. I’ve split up the goal because I’m a reserved person, so I’m trying to ease into it in hopes of a better chance to accomplish it. I have at least broken ground on the goal by already having made my first public swim brief appearance. That was on my honeymoon. Then a few times since on other vacations.

Now the next step to reach the main goal is making my first public appearance at a local beach. I find this to be a challenging one for me. Along with most likely being the only swim brief wear, there is some anxiety that I could run into someone I know. I know neither should stop me and I just need to not care and do what I want. So with the encouragement I get from readers of my blog and others, I believe I’m starting to get the mindset I need to just do it.

Hopefully all it takes is one time locally and the swim brief will become my regular beach swim attire therefore after at any beach I visit. My 2017 resolution is the break out one of my swim briefs at one of the beaches near my home this coming summer. Anyone else going to join in and make an underwear or swimwear resolution?

One of my favorite new brands is Bruno Menswear. It’s a super creative brand out of Mexico. We have profiled it a few times but each time I go on their site I keep seeing things that I love. One of them is the Body Intense singlet. Well, it’s a mix between a singlet and a jock.

After I fell in love with underwear, singlets/spandex were next. I have always loved new and interesting designs. Bruno is all about showing off a guy. It could be from the way the pouch is made, to the cuts and fabrics. They are all about celebrating the guy. Some of you may not like these sort of things but they go hand in hand with undies, as far as I am concerned.

The Body Intense is part of the Intense line from Bruno. It’s their fetish line that has influences of leather and rubber. They have a few harnesses in this collection. From the traditional looking leather ones to more spandex/elastic ones.

How is this like a singlet or jock? Well, just look at the picture. The strips cross as they go up over your shoulders. The back has an almost tank top like feel. The bottom has a full pouch but the back is cut out like a jock. This pair is all about showing off. If you’re going to wear this you want someone to see you in it. Am I right?

Bruno Menswear is not about avoiding the pouch. Most of their designs have pouches designed to fit a man and I love this about them. We are guys and we need room in the front! To have a brand who embraces this is a great thing.

If you want something fun, maybe for Valentine’s day coming up, think about this pair or one of the others from Bruno Menswear.

We got the chance to talk to M-Wear. The Thonged Ginger conducted this interview.

How long have you been making thongs and underwear? What made you start to make it?

I’ve been making them inconsistently for about 5 years. Only in the last 6 months have I spent a significant amount of time trying to perfect underwear patterns to look and operate the way I like them to. I’m still working on a brief to offer customers hopefully in mid-2017.

I started making underwear for strip/burlesque shows in NYC and that’s where I realized I LOVED making men’s underwear.

What made you decide to pursue making undies for the burlesque/strip shows?

My “real” job is costume design for theatre in NYC and there have been several shows I’ve been involved in that required custom men’s underwear for any number of reasons.

Thongs have really taken off with all kinds of men, gay/straight, married/single, what made you start your own custom Thong/underwear business? Why do custom over a ready to wear line?

Working on burlesque/strip shows for several years, where I’ve had to fit each dancer’s underwear individually, I realized that guys really love to have underwear that fits them specifically-especially when they didn’t know it was possible. I give my customers the option of pairing their thong with whatever size pouch they feel that they need. If there’s a guy who says the waist is a tiny bit tight or the thong strap is a little loose, I’ll make notes and adjust it for the next time they order. For guys that live-in Manhattan, I offer the option of a complimentary initial fitting. This lets them try on the underwear before it’s complete so I can adjust the waist, thong strap, and pouch to fit their body and then I forever know what fits them for future orders.

Not only do they get to customize their thong sizing, but they have complete control of the fabric. If they want half the pouch to be one color/fabric and the other side to be different, then that’s what they get. My library of colors, prints, and sparkle is endless!

Since I’m still very new to selling my work, custom orders are easier to accommodate than a ready-to-wear line because I don’t have to worry about making a bunch of underwear that may not sell or fit. Eventually, I may have a ready-to-wear line in addition to my custom work, but for now it’s just made-to-order.

Where do you want this venture to take you? Do you want a full-time gig making men’s underwear or more of a hobby? Have you considered a brand name?

The brand name is “M Wear NYC”. I’ve constantly been thinking about where I want this to go and it all depends on how well I do. A lot of brands start out with a business loan to get their momentum going at the beginning. I’m really trying to take it slow and make sure this specific type of company is something worth investing before I make a bold move like that. If it works out, I’d love to make it my career but for now I guess you could say it’s more of a hobby that I get paid for.

How does your custom-made underwear process work? How does a guy order?

Well, the business is literally just a few months old and since I’m doing it on the side of my normal design job, it’s a pretty straight forward process. New customers, who I don’t personally know, reach out to me via a direct message on either Twitter or Instagram with an inquiry. From there, I’ll explain briefly how it works-I let the customer know the fabric selection process which is still literally just sending photos of fabric swatch cards to them while ensuring them that if there is something specific they have in mind (pink and blue zebra print, for example) that the sky is the limit and I can always get follow up photos from my distributor. From there we discuss fit. I ask what size they tend to wear in other underwear brands and try to base it off of that while allowing them to go up or down in pouch size based on what they think they need. This process can get much more precise if the customer lives in Manhattan since I can do an initial fitting.

If someone was to visit NYC could they arrange a meeting with you as well?

Absolutely! An in-person fitting is the ideal situation because the underwear can be totally custom in every way (fit, fabric, etc.). If someone knows they are traveling to NYC, I’d love to schedule a complimentary fitting with the purchase of a thong or jockstrap.

I have seen that you are traveling to Chicago, are there any other cities you plan on visiting? Have you had several requests to do custom fittings when you get there?

Yeah, I’m in Chicago Jan 26-29 and I already have four fittings scheduled and am hoping to get some more on the calendar for that weekend. No other cities on the radar yet, but it’s still early. I’m definitely updating my Twitter followers as I schedule trips. I’m hoping to get a Boston trip scheduled at some point this year.

I know you said you want to introduce a brief, any other styles you want to eventually come out with as well?

Hopefully a couple different brief options and a singlet. In the distant future, hopefully some fetish wear.

What has your general clientele been? UNB_Tim believes more straight men are catching onto the thong craze, do you agree?

So far, it’s been mostly gay men. I’ve had a couple straight men express interest, but no orders yet. I imagine that would change once I’ve made my website active. The reason I’ve had most of the clientele I’ve had is because at the beginning I reached out to gay porn stars, go-go dancers, etc. as a way of fast, maximum exposure (see what I did there?). Also, it may be more of a hassle for straight men to think about making creative decisions about their underwear versus just picking out something ready-to-wear (which I hope to make an option once my website goes live).

Why do you think straight men are less creative with their underwear decisions?

I target more to gay men, because that’s who wear them in a more public way. I imagine that straight men wear something more for their partner and less for social media to see. Although, I am certain there are straight men who wear them more publicly. As time goes on, I really hope to target straight men in addition to gay men.

Let me ask about you, where are you from?

I’m a southern boy. Born in Charleston and raised in Arkansas. I lived in Chicago for most of 2015 and now thankfully live in Harlem, NYC.

What made you decide to stay or leave?

I had to go where the work was. As a costume designer for theatre, my chances of getting constant work are greater if I’m in NYC.

Do you have any other hobbies?

Besides making sexy men’s underwear, I enjoy going to the gym, cooking (and eating), playing with my dog, and traveling.

Do you like to watch sports? Favorite teams?

I’m sorry, what is a “sport”? Haha! I enjoy watching college football if I can attend the game but watching sports on TV is not the slightest bit interesting to me. My favorite team is my alma mater, the Arkansas State University Red Wolves.

Favorite movies, tv shows, Netflix?

I rarely watch tv. It makes me feel like I’m wasting my life. If I’m watching TV, it’s 1 of 3 shows: The Barefoot Contessa, Will and Grace reruns, or more recently, The Big Bang Theory.

Anything else you want people to know about you or your brand?

I am so thankful for all the retweets and shout outs on social media from my customers! I get giddy every time I get a notification. The reason I’m taking this venture slow is

because I want to make sure I’m able to do business fairly and efficiently and I want every step of my customer’s experience to be simple, but exciting! I mean, underwear that’s made for ONLY YOUR PACKAGE should be exciting!

What are the ways our readers can contact you?

Right now, I can be contacted via Twitter Direct Messages (@m_wearunderwear). I hope to have a website together by the end of 2017.

This will be my first time bringing you anything for Thong Thursday and I hope that I can show off something good. If you were to know me I am a huge Gregg Homme fan. Their stuff can be a little pricey but in my experience, it is well worth it. So, I want to bring attention to the Gregg Home Nude Jock.

The first thing you should notice about the garment is the torpedo style pouch and the how thick the straps are on the sides. The thickness of the side straps is to enhance the wear’s bum to achieve a more “bubble” butt appearance. The side straps are also a sports mesh material and are highly breathable. No one ever hates looking at a good bum, women make spanx to achieve that same look.

While the rear lift is a key achievement the torpedo itself is also a looker. The material is the same from the Torrid line, which is 76%nylon and 24% spandex. This gives the fabric a great 8-way stretch that can accommodate virtually anyone. From my experiences with the fabric, you will never be disappointed but this is most definitely a lounge or night out piece. While you may see the name, and wonder why is TheThongedGinger spotlighting a jock on thong Thursday, well the garment is more of a jock thong than just your normal jock. That gives a nice middle ground for both styles. I don’t own the piece but I do plan to purchase this jock thong in the future. If you are really wanting to grab some GH stuff they have a sale
going on now till the 12/30/16, go over there and get you some

PROS

  • comfortable
  • nice fabric and pouch
  • a great basic without being boring

CONS

  • limited colors

For my second pair of Bum-Chums, I tried the Illuminati Light – Hipster. I had a positive experience with this brand last time so I was expecting to like these, as well. Trunks and Boxer briefs are not my go-to underwear but I’ll give anything a shot! The look was classic, white with black contrast trim and waistband and the fabric felt very soft with lots of stretch…so far, so good. This exact style only comes in black or white, but BC has hipster cut underwear in several prints and colors.

I wore these to work on a cool day when a little extra fabric wouldn’t bother me. The fabric is what they call Tactel®, which is a Polyamide/Elastane mix, so these would hold up to a sweaty day as well as a day in the office. I run really hot and tend to sweat even when it’s not warm outside so I appreciate fabric that wicks moisture.

Sizing might run a bit small. I am a 31-32 waist and these medium hipsters fit just right. According to their size chart I could wear a small but I think they would have been too tight. I’ve got thick legs so a little extra space is appreciated. If you straddle two sizes, I would recommend going up.

I love the contrast in color and the seam in the back does help create a nice profile for those of us without much of a butt. The fabric was very soft and had lots of stretch. I’m not a fan of outrageous pouches and Bum-Chums got these just right….support for everything up front with a bit of a lift for showing off without being obscene. Like I said earlier, trunks and boxer briefs are not my style because the legs ride up and I find myself pulling on them all day. This isn’t a design flaw, just a preference, but I have to admit, there was very little adjusting today, which left me pleasantly surprised! One suggestion to BC would be to offer more colors for those of us not afraid to venture outside of black and white.

When I pulled these on I was worried that I would be annoyed with the length all day which as I said, did not happen. The Tactel fabric did wick away some moisture and the profile the pair gives was really great. I’m not sure I want to wear trunks more often but this pair did open my eyes that they aren’t all bad. For guys who love trunks already, these are definitely a pair I would recommend.

Today I’m reviewing the Cocksox CX03 Waistband Brief. I own a handful of undies from Cocksox so I was ready for the outrageous pouch, but hadn’t tried this exact style so was happy to try something new. This style comes in black, white, blue and red, which is currently on sale.

I wore these on an active workday simply because I wanted to review them – not because I thought they were practical. I would say the CX03 brief could be worn for work or to the gym if you really liked to show off in gym shorts. I was wearing jeans and the bulge was noticeable but tolerable.

Sizing seems in line with most brands in the US. These were a medium (32-34) and gave plenty of room everywhere without being loose. The pouch is there to show you off so there’s plenty of room – no need to size up. I used to wear my underwear very tight but in recent months have began to appreciate a bit more space, so if you’re in between sizes and like them tight, go down a size.

Cocksox always has great style and are made well. The fabric is 92% Supplex and 8% Lycra which gives them lots of stretch and they felt broken in and soft after just one wash. The back rode up throughout the day and did requires some adjusting. Honestly, sometimes it’s hot to let them ride up and leave them that way so that’s not really a complaint! More color options would be nice and as I’ve said before, the outrageous pouch isn’t my favorite. I like support and a bit of show off but the lift in these is almost silly under loose/thin clothing. The profile the pouch gives also isn’t sexy, in my opinion. It’s their signature so it shouldn’t change and I know they have other lines where the pouch is tamer, so they’re doing a great job offering something for everyone.

Cocksox in my mind is underwear “for fun” and not everyday but after wearing these I might reconsider that. While the initial feeling is that the pouch is too much and the back could be but a bit bigger, once I had them on and went about my day, they worked just like any other pair of briefs….I just had to be a little more careful when zipping up my fly. Maybe I’ll stop being such a dud and wear sexier underwear during “practical” times. For getting me to change my mind about anything – Cocksox deserves a thumbs up!

Dot Wear furnished the Boobee.wear Boxer Briefs for review.

Rating: 7.8/10 (Average of the ratings below)

  • Daily Fit: 8/10
  • Sizing: 7/10
  • Construction: 7/10
  • Styling: 9/10
  • Daily Performance: 8/10

Pros: The material is super soft so it is comfortable against your skin. The pattern is fun and interesting.
Doesn’t bunch up as you move throughout the day.

Cons: Doesn’t have the biggest pouch for guys who need that. Material can be cold against your skin
when you first put them on.

Today I am reviewing the Dot Wear Boobee Boxer Briefs. I have never heard of this brand so was excited to try something new. The first thing I noticed was the fun pattern with bumble bees on them.
They also threw in 1 ghost on the pair. I love boxer briefs so this pair fits right into what I normally enjoy
to wear.

I did pretty much everything while wearing this pair. I moved around and sat for extended periods of time while at work. The pair is extremely comfortable that you almost forget you are wearing underwear. I didn’t have to adjust myself at all or pull down on the legs to get them from riding up on me.

The Boobee Boxer Briefs are made extremely well. The pair is 81% polyester and 19% elastane. The fabric is super soft against your skin. According to the company the underwear features four-way
stretch, which you notice in how the pair stays in place no matter how much you move. They also say the fabric is antimicrobial to keep you smelling fresh. The print is fun too with bumblebees and one ghost on an orange background. The waistband is also fun with the company’s name on it but then having rainbow colored jimmies on it. The seams are done in black thread that add contrast to the pattern and material.

I got a pair of small underwear. For the most part this pair fit me perfectly. The one thing I noticed is it was tough at first to get the pair on over my bubble butt. Once on the pair fit great and wasn’t tight at all.

Overall I love this pair of underwear. The material is comfortable and you can do anything you normally do while wearing the pair. The pattern on the underwear is really fun and interesting that others will notice and enjoy as well. One cool thing with the Boobee Boxer Briefs is that a portion of the proceeds will go to Breast Cancer Awareness. I would get more of this brand in the future, to not only support great causes but also because the underwear is super comfortable.
