Men’s Underwear

Today we have factors that are important to buy undies. I think next year we are going to update these to some new ones and drop some of them. I haven’t made up my mind yet but I think we may make it more clear.

Material – This is one of the most important factors in choosing undies. I mean bad fabric equals a bad day. I prefer modal, spandex and things that move and breathe.

Cut – Next on our list is cut, which cut do you like a higher cut leg, a thong, a wide string, or a small? it’s important to find brands that makes what you love.

Fit – the most important is the fit does it keep it’s shape? Does it ride up or does it feel amazing through out the day and being active.

Pouch – Pouch is one that rotates in and out of importance. This year while important it didn’t make our top three. Pouch can either be too small or big.

Sizing – is always an issue and how does the sizing chart compare to the actual pair. Is it right? does it run small or big?

Style- Style is another important factor. We define style as is it a bikini, briefs, thong, jock, etc. It’s not fashion but what style is best for you.

Color – I think by this result that color is a secondary factor for most guys. It’s important but other items on the list over ride color.

Price – Being price sensitive isn’t big for you guys. This was done back in March/April and I think now it would be higher due to inflation and gas prices.

Sex Appeal – This one surprises me, that yeah you guys want to feel sexy in undies but you don’t hold it high up on your criteria.

Fashion – What this slide tell me is you guys know what you like and want to get it. You want to be fashionable but you want to be comfortable as well.

Construction – How well is the pair made? is it going to keep up with your activities? Does it wear out after one wearing? It’s important but not a big three factor.

We are all about color for this update (well, half of the update). We asked two questions. The first is what are your favorite colors. Our top 5 colors for this year are Blue, Black, Red, Green, and Purple. As you can see, guys could choose more than one color. I’m surprised that pink wasn’t higher on our list as well as it sells.

We got the top colors, but what do guys prefer? Is it solid, prints, or stripes? By a wide margin, you guys love solids best. Followed by prints and stripes. I’m surprised that more of you don’t wear prints. I guess more of you want to do prints in swimwear and not underwear.

I kept this one in random order because it’s always interesting to see what guys think of as the most annoying thing in undies. Over the years, it changes and rotates from tags, sizing, fit, and more. This year Sizing issues are back on top. Guys hate to buy undies that have issues with sizing, such as a strange size chart or pairs that run small (rarely is it running bigger). The second is a classic tag or label issue. You pay $30 for a pair, and the tag rubs you the wrong way, sometimes making the pair unwearable. The third is pouch too small. Pouch issues are always in the top 5. No one hates to get squeezed throughout the day. The last two are construction issues and store sales.

This year’s new question inspired by the podcast is what do you do with old undies. It doesn’t necessarily mean worn-out undies but undies that you no longer like for various reasons. Most of you throw them out and get rid of them. I need to do this for a lot of pairs I have and redo my collection. Next is to put them in storage. I have several pairs I love so much I don’t want to get rid of them, even if they are unwearable. The last two are sold on a site like Poshmark (although they are cracking down on undies sales0> Last is to give them to a friend!

I limited this because the next topic is long, so I didn’t want to run 20 results in a post.

This Swimwear Sunday, I wanted a pair that was a little skimpier and a little more fun. I sorted through many brands before finding the perfect pair, Jack Adams Kai Mana Swim Tanga. It’s got some bright and bold colors, and the design is a little smaller than the previous pairs we have featured. Next week we will feature a. swim thong (I almost came close today to feature one).

Here is what Jack Adams says about the line:

The body defining Kai Mana swim tanga is super comfortable and a sexy minimalistic take on traditional men’s swimsuits. The fabric is soft to the touch and offers a second skin fit to the body as well as UPF 50+ sun protection. It has a low rise, falling below the natural waist, and features a metal O-ring detail at the covered elastic waistband

The four colors of this pair are Lime/Yellow, Grey/Orange, Pink/Yellow, and Yellow/Royal. Each pair features a metal O-ring that show’s off a little more skin! It’s for the guy who wants to show off without showing it all off!

Why did I choose this pair for Swimwear Sunday:

  • I wanted something smaller and a little more fun. I think there is a time and place for a classic cut and a smaller cut.
  • The pink/yellow pair really caught my eye. This is an amazing color combination and I know many of you out there will love it as well. It will draw attention to you on the beach or pool.
  • It’s on the pricy side and I almost didn’t choose it but I think this feature is to show off swimwear and not be limited by price. The retail price is $86.50

PAIR: Jack Adams Kai Mana Swim Tanga.
COLORS: Lime/Yellow, Grey/Orange, Pink/Yellow, and Yellow/Royal
FABRIC: 82% Polyester, 18% Elastane. UV 50+ protective.
SIZES: Small – X-Large
PRICE: $86.50

Now we get to the meat of the survey. We will delve into what you spend and what you wear. I decided to use my art in the presentation, and Finding the perfect picture is not easy at times, so I hope you enjoy these slides.

We are always curious whether you buy at regular price, on sale, or both; as I expected, you guys buy a mix of sale and reg price. I am going to post what brands you guys buy at regular prices, but I haven’t found a word cloud creator that makes ones that will not put “N2N Bodywear” as “N2N” and “Bodywear.”

How much do you guys spend on a pair of underwear? We all have our sweet spot; while we hope to get it cheaper, we all know men’s underwear is not cheap. Most of you will spend $20-25 on a pair of underwear. You can get some great brands at that price point. The second price point that you guys like is $15-20, which still has a lot of great brands at this price point.

The first time I asked what your favorite style is, I forgot to make it so you can choose just one! But now we have it, so we want to know your favorite style overall. I know it’s shocking that the Thong tops the list this year. Thongs have been growing more and more. The second is my favorite, the Bikini Brief, followed by the Brief as the third. One that got no votes is the Jocks Brief. We will be taking that style off the next survey unless it picks up steam this year.

Now we break it down into individual styles.

THONGS – As you can see from Sometimes to Always wear, about 60% of you guys wear thongs. Not daily, but pretty often. No wonder the Thong is the favorite!

JOCKS – I have to say that Jocks have lost some steam over the last few years. Back in 2009, jocks exploded, and everyone had multiple styles of jocks, from classics to fashion to erotic. I don’t think this is in any way the demise of the jock; it will always have its fans, but it’s fashion, and we’ll see it rise again!

Briefs – Briefs are the third most popular in the favorite style. It’s only slightly lower than Thongs. We all have some great briefs in our collection that fit great. We want something that gives good support, and the top three do just that.

BIKINIS – I thought this slide was wrong but notice the Always wear and Most always wear are two of the highest in the survey. You guys love bikinis. I love them, and they have always been my choice. I think we are going to see Bikinis grow more and more over the next few years. Not just with us underwear lovers but also the general public.

BOXER BRIEFS – Show of hands who’s surprised. Almost a majority of you guys never wear boxer briefs. I occasionally wear them, but they are similar to those in the picture. Very tight and almost like bike shorts with a pouch. If you give me the ones in the big box store, I’d instead go without, and it seems you guys do go without this style.

TRUNKS – again not much to say here that I didn’t say above.

JOCK BRIEFS – Over 50% of you guys don’t wear this style, and it received no votes in our “favorite style.” I think this means we will retire this style from our survey; unless there is some significant Jock Brief renaissance, it won’t return.

I hope you enjoy these results! We have a ton more coming. I’m trying to get this done. I have almost all the questions tabulated, and I have to get the drawing!

One area I think that most people don’t think about Timoteo is swimwear. They released one of the funniest swimwear collections I have seen this year, called the Pool Party Mesh collection. The new collection features all-new prints on sports tech mesh fabric.

There are four different styles in this fantastic collection. The first is the Pool Party Mesh Low Rise Swim Brief, Mesh Bikini Swim, Solid Mesh Short with Jock, and Printed Mesh Short with Jock. Ok, first, let me address the mesh short with a jock. I’m not too fond of those liners most swimwear comes with. It just annoys me to no end. I LOVE the idea of the jock under the shorts. It gives you support as opposed to loose, ill-fitting liners. Plus, the jockstraps match the fabric of the shorts.

This collection is going to be a must-have for so many of you out there. One reason is the amazing prints, I mean look at these super amazing prints. The tropical fun colors are just way fun. Second, the fabric is a sports mesh that will dry quickly and look amazing on the beach. Go check these swimwear out today

It should come as no surprise but the majority of our readers come from the US. However, We have very strong Europe and Canadian readers. I was hoping for more of a wide appeal of countries but maybe next year.

One of the most important questions we have is how big is your underwear collection. Well, I”m definitely an outlier but most guys have 21-70 pairs. I know we all want very large collections but it’s very costly! I am working on compiling all our surveys together to see the trends over time to see if this number has gone up or down. But if memory serves me correctly, this is about what we had in previous years.

How often do you guys buy undies? With the current economy and such it’s no surprise that most buy every few months. I think that this number has gone up slightly but most guys have been in the past month or every few months. Very few buy weekly,

These are some of the results. I hoped to have more done but I”m tabulating and creating the images as I go. By this weekend I hope to have most of the spreadsheet done and the images mostly done! Stay tuned to more

Here are the first of the UNB Reader Survey results. We will cover the Demographics of the survey part 1 and more on Tuesday.

The majority of our readers are from 25-54. I’m surprised we don’t have younger readers but it’s great to see a good range of people.

It comes as no surprise that 99% of respondents were men. The “other” left this question blank. I would assume that it means men as well. One year we are going to get one or more women to take the survey.

We had a big growth in guys who Identify as bi, we grew to 24% and our straight guys held steady at 32% and gay guys are still the most at 39%

The last of this section is marital status. Over half of you guys are married! I didn’t expect that at all. 31% said they were single. 11% have a significant other, 3% are divorced and 1% are widowed.

More coming this week

It’s SWIMWEAR SUNDAY. We are bringing this feature back after a hiatus due to the pandemic. We are starting to live life again and we definitely need some fun in the sun. Every Sunday we will focus on something fun, hot, and sometimes different. This week I wanted to profile a pair for Pride month by a company local to me in Atlanta, I chose MCE Creations and their Malibu Swim Brief.

I chose the Malibu Brief because first, it’s an amazing pair. I mean the pink and bright colors will make you stand out where ever you are! Next, pink is becoming one of the more popular colors of swimwear. Guys are not afraid to wear super bright pink in public. Which I think is awesome, we have loved pink undies but now we are letting everyone know pink is for everyone.

Some of the features of this pair are:

  • polyester/spandex blend
  • extra stretch for lift and comfort
  • draw strings to adjust tightness for security and comfort

If you love The Malibu Swim Brief as much as I do, check it out on the MCE Creations site and it’s just $35.
