With all the eco friendly movement, more underwear companies are using eco friendly materials. We had a chance to interview Go Softwear about their new line.

Why did Go Soft wear decide to do an econ friendly line? What was the inspiration?
The choice to do an eco friendly line (Go Natural) is largely in part because we as a company believe in doing our part in helping preserve our environment and help create awareness. Go Softwear realized that the eco friendly movement was growing in all aspects of the apparel industry and incorporated into our company DNA.

Can you tell us more about the materials you choose for the line?
The materials used for the eco line are Organic Cotton, Bamboo and Vegetable dye. Bamboo fabric has antibacterial agents, perfect for undergarments and workout wear. Vegetable dye colors obtained from natural sources such as; fruits, leaves, flowers, vegetables, seeds, roots and bark of trees are non toxic in their pure form. Organic cotton is cotton grown without the use of pesticides, chemical fertilizers or herbicides. These materials have a far less impact on our environment. For example, vegetable dye is natural unlike chemical dyes that harm the environment. Bamboo when grown requires less energy and water to grow, can be grown without the use of harmful pesticides. In addition, bamboo grows extremely fast which means the root structure and rapid growth can reclaim land destroyed by overgrazing and over building.

What styles have you decided to make in the Go Natural line?
For the eco friendly line we kept the styles pretty traditional. Briefs, boxers, jocks and sleeveless tees, tanks, but with a fashion flare, hence the contrast stitching in the group.

How long has the Go Natural line been on sale?
We started doing hemp/organic cotton underwear for men a little over a year ago. The response was very positive so we decided to expand the line to other eco friendly fabrics.

Do you see the line expanding into other styles and materials?
Yes, we plan on expanding the line and keeping it as a staple. We also plan on sourcing new eco friendly fabrics for new styles in the future. Already, we have added the women’s eco friendly line consisting of thongs, boy briefs, sports bra, and camisoles.

What has been the customer repose to the new line?
Customers/buyers response has been positive. The existing Go Natural and new Veg. Dye, Bamboo has been picked up by stores we sell too across the country. The thing about true Eco-friendly clothing or undergarments is that they tend to be a bit more pricey, this is due to the fact that the process or raw materials used to construct fabrics or natural dyes is more specialized, not mass produced.

Outside of the Go Natural line, what has been some of your best sellers? and anything we can expect out of Go Softwear this year?
By far Go Softwear’s best sellers are the lo-rise briefs, over dyed group, Rayon/Mesh group, our colorful Berry Fresh Group, American Jock Group, and padded undergarments, especially the padded Butt Brief and now the NEW Super Padded Line is doing EXTREMELY well. The next item that is already crating a buzz is our men’s Waist Eliminator, which has been pre-sold to stores and going live on our site later this month. An article in the Wall Street Journal about men’s enhancement products mentioned our padded group and waist eliminator creating a buzz. We get calls just about every other day of individuals who read the article asking where they can buy it. We feel that is going to be our new top seller.

Just when you think Christmas Shopping was a chore, Andrew Christian is having a bit .99 Cent sale. You can order up to three items and the sale begins at 5 PM PST, and that’s 8 PM EST for east coast people. The items are all a mystery, so there’s no telling what you will get till it arives. For us here at UNB it sounds pretty fun! Also included in the order is an autographed head shot. So get over there early because things will sell out fast. Click here for the direct link.

We had an opportunity to talk to Eric the Head Baskit Maker over at Baskit Undies. The talk was going to be on the extension on the Body Art line, but we talked about a lot more. We talked about the other lines, how he started at the company and much more.

The first thing we talked about was the extension of the Body Art line. The line, he said, originated when he was in London and noticed a guy at his gym who was covered from head to toe in tattoos. He would see the guy in the gym a lot and one day he asked the guy could they use his tattoos as the inspiration of the new line. The gentleman agreed and they took some pics and came out with the line. The original closely matched the guy’s tattoos with blackish/blue tint. The line turned out to be one of the best sellers. They then came out with the newer cyan based line. As you can see by the pictures here, the line is a little brighter and fun. And no matter what style of underwear you like, they make it in all. From boxer briefs, briefs to jocks, any style you would want to wear.

Some other updates include changes to the Action Cool line. The original mesh was one that may not have been comfortable to wear all day. After some research they re-launched the brand with 100% cotton mesh that became conducive to daily wear. There are perfect for working out or someone who has a very active day. The Action cool line is available in Black, Bronze Green, Brown Stone, Riviera Blue, Vermillion Orange and White. Styling also vary just as much as the colors, you can get the various colors in the Boxer Brief, Sawed off trunk, bikini brief, low rise trunk and jock.

We asked Eric what his best seller has been. He told us it was the pink jockstrap they put out about a year ago. He didn’t expect it to be such a success. They were out for a short time and if you didn’t get one, don’t loose hope, they maybe back soon, but as of yet there are no plans to put them in production. Keep checking the Baskit site and we will let you know when and if it’s released.

They are a company that takes risks in their underwear as well. You may remember the Pin Up line called Beauties they had out earlier in the year. The pictures that used to grace WWII bombers of Pin Up models inspired them. They are a series of boxer briefs with different vintage pin ups on the leg. This is carried over in the Fall 2008 collects for the Beauties and Brawn lines. Both have vintage images on the underwear. Beauties carry over the pin up theme, while Brawn is vintage images of men.

One last thing about their underwear is the sizing. The sizing is based on European sizing. Which means that its a little smaller then true American sizing, but it should not make a major difference. But we would suggest if you’re right on the end of a size, for example, if you’re a 34 and the size is a 32-34, try the next size up. Which makes good sense for any brand you buy. You will be more comfortable.

The company’s lines seem to be always evolving into something fun to wear. They have items you can wear to express your personality to something simple to wear to the gym. For those of you who want something simple the Urban line is one that has a simple waistband and conservative colors. While if you want something to express your self the Body Art, Stripes and Beauties and Brawn lines, will alloy you to bring your personality to your underwear.

The last thing we talked about was how he ended up working in the underwear business. He said he was working for the UK government in London and decided he needed a change. And as fate would have it, through a friend, he met the two owners of Baskit at dinner one night. At that dinner the owners mentioned selling the company. After that conversation he negotiated with them for about six months till they sold the company to him.

Since taking the over, the company has been reinvigorated and new lines have come out. The company now has a distinct vision and direction under Eric. He said on his blog “Already, we’ve placed hundreds of orders nation-wide and will soon reappear in many of the stores which had carried Baskit in the past. I want the brand to be functional, but also fun and sexy, and most importantly, I want guys to get excited about buying and wearing the underwear.” We wish Baskit continued success and look forward to new lines from them soon as well!

We here at UNB we are going to perform some public service announcements too. But don’t worry, they won’t be “Just Say NO” or “This is your Brain on Drugs.” But while talking to Jay at 4Boys Gear, he told us a great tip for making your undies last longer.

Do you have a pair of undies you love that have writing silk screened on it? If so, there is a great way to make it last longer. Just wash them inside out. That’s right, turn them inside out and wash them. They should last longer with out the writing coming off.

Who knew something so simple will extend the life of your undies? I hope to have more tips soon!

Also, please email us your tips or if you have any questions for some of the companies we interview. I would love to include readers questions.

Men’s Underwear Store is now carrying the brand new line by C-IN2 – Ecliptic. Not only is the styling different, notice the way the pouch is constructed, but so are the materials used to make the underwear.

The brand is an eco friendly by nature of the materials they use. The undies are constructed from 75% pima cotton and 25% seacell (which is seaweed, yes that’s right). The reasoning is the seaweed contains vitimins and minerals that can be absorbed into the body. Also that seaweed is a very renewable resource that like bamboo it can be replentinished easily. Which also doesn’t cause undo burdon on eco-systems.

So if you’re looking for another eco friendly option, go check out the new line! We hope to have more information on the line soon for you.

We received some of the Ginch Gonch Load ‘n” Dump undies to review. We are really excited because these are the first ones we have reviewed. The way reviews will work are on a scale on 1-5 on Fit, fabric, construction, fashion, daily wear and overall review.

Motor Mouth Sport Brief by JZ

These are one of my favorite pair of Ginch Gonch I’ve ever worn. They are very comfortable, sized well and fall perfectly on the body. The design is also fun and flirty. Because they do stretch when worn, I recommend ordering smaller than your normal size.

  • The Fit: 4, very comfortable material, however, the slight ribbing of the fabric can be uncomfortable if you’ve been to the tanning bed or in the sun recently
  • Materials/Construction: 5 Put Together: (how well is it made) 5, lots of detail in design, including complimentary colors in the cross-stitching
  • Design: 5, they’re adorable!
  • Daily Wear: 5
  • Overall: 5

Pooper Scooper Low-rise Brief by Tim

These are some really great green briefs. I will say that I have enjoyed the Ginch Gonch I have worn in the past. They are tight but stretchy. Which I personally love. They really felt great through out the day.

  • The Fit: 4 – Love the feel and fit of these and fit awesome
  • Materials/Construction: 4.5 – great cotton spandex material, very well constructed.
  • Design: 5 they are very fun to look at!
  • Daily Wear: 5 – great for daily wear and felt awesome through out the day
  • Overall – 4.5
