2EROS has released some new swimwear. It’s fast becoming summer down under and time to head to Bondi Beach and enjoy the sun and fun. One of the two new pairs released is the Waikiki. Made in the V10 silhouette of swimwear. The V10 fit boasts a low rise and form fit which is designed to accentuate and celebrate the male form. Made from a polyester and elastane blend, it is quick dry and lightweight, quintessential for summer and the Australian lifestyle.
One of the reasons I love 2EROS is the prints they do in swimwear. Do you remember some of their others? Such as the Bloom, Desert Camo, Birds of Paradise and Tribe Icon. The Waikiki is a tropical Hibiscus print with a blue background. It’s a perfect print for the beach. Here is what 2EROS told us why they chose the pattern. The pair is “Inspired by the Hibiscus flower, a representation of confidence and courage.”
2EROS makes some of the most colorful and fun swim briefs on the market. The cut and print really make them eye-catching. People will be asking where you got the pair! Note this pair will be released on December 8th on the 2EROS website and at your favorite retailers.

There are some interesting marketing campaigns with the brand Bruno Banani that I’ll touch on a bit later in the post. Bruno Banani is a German brand, so some of my research on them was translated from German. The brand was founded in 1993 by Wolfgang Jassner who already worked for various textile companies. Jassner saw there was a gap in the underwear market with no “young, groovy brand” in men’s underwear.
Bruno Banani sells more than men’s underwear and swimwear. They also sell many other items including women’s underwear too. They granted licenses for fragrances, watches, bags, sunglasses, hats, and even towels. Also, they sell shoes, jackets, socks, and shirts. All of the products for both men and women. Let’s look at the women’s underwear a little first. They have a pretty good selection for the ladies, which you don’t find quite as much from a brand that offers both. Most of the time it is a couple of styles and a couple of fabric options for one sex and then a bunch for the other. They still offer more for men than women. They offer women’s styles in thongs, bikinis, hipsters, briefs, and bras. They don’t offer any women’s swimwear though.
Let’s go over the men’s selection. For us, they have the boxer brief, the more modern hipster, long johns, and the boxers. On the skimpier side, you have sports briefs, which vary in side widths. You have bikinis that they call tangas, and then there are the strings or traditional thongs. The boxer briefs and hipster are a good part of their men’s underwear makeup. For their swimwear offering, they have Bermuda, which is their knee-length shorts. Then they call swim shorts by boxers. Hip shorts are in the square-cut family with the shortest inseams. The other square cuts are called shorts. They’re a little longer on the inseam, but most appear not to make it to mid-thigh. Then there is Retro, which is kind of like sungas or square cuts without an inseam. Their swim briefs are called mini. They’re similar to cut to the sports briefs. Skimpier than a full swim brief, but not quite what I would call a bikini. And lastly, they have thongs or strings for swimwear. They pretty much have something for every guy in underwear and swimwear.
Bruno Banani marketing strategy is one to get themselves notice. They started that with a bold motto or slogan of “Not For Everybody.” When you see that does it make you wonder why it’s not for everyone? Like I said a bit earlier, from a style standpoint I would say they could be for everyone. If you go with price, then maybe not. I would put them in the premium price area at typically $25-$35 a pair for underwear. If you want boxers, you can get them under $20.
They staked claim to be the first designer brand in space. They outfitted one of the astronauts on the MIR space station in their underwear. Bruno Banani adventure tested their underwear in a 10,000-kilometer adventure by Achill Moser from Jerusalem to Zimbabwe. Another extreme adventure test for their underwear was an Eco-Challenge. The German team at the challenge was outfitted in the “Air Active” collection in their 500-kilometer journey through the Australian jungle. There are a few other marketing campaigns they talk about. You can read more about them here.
There is one last marketing campaign I want to touch on that I think is a pretty bold one. The German luge team took a Tongan who was aspiring to be the first one from the country to make it into the Winter Olympics under their wing. This luger had the same name as the German underwear brand Bruno Banani. Of course, this was not his real name, but just a marketing hoax that was eventually uncovered. This brought criticism and attention to the brand, which had to be the goal of the campaign. The luger’s real name is Fuahea Semi, and there is a movie about him called “Being Bruno Banani.” Check out more about the movie on the IMBd website.
As you can see they have done some interesting marketing to build their brand recognition. Have you tried the Bruno Banani brand? Let us know your thoughts on them.

I’ve gotten a little behind and keeping you caught up on aussieBum new releases. Today, I’m going to catch you up on some new lines and new colors and patterns in existing lines. Let’s take a look at new patterns and colors first.
New colors have been added to their Seamless Tech 2.4 line, which is available in a brief or hipster. The new colors are ice, royal, and red. All waistbands match the fabric color and have the aussieBum name on them.

FABRIC: 87% Nylon, 10% Elastane, 3% Polyester
SIZES: S – XL
COST: Brief – $13.25; Hipster – $16.50
Next up are some patterns added to the Billy line. The one that I’ve been seeing talk about is the banana print. It’s available in black or blue. It features partial peeled and unpeeled bananas in of course yellow. The other print they added to the line is a shark print. Maybe better defined as Jaws, since it looks like a great white. The print is black on white with repetitions of the shark’s mouth open. Billy is also available in a brief or a hipster.
PAIR: Billy
NEW COLORS: Banana Black, Banana Blue, Sharks
FABRIC: 90% Cotton, 10% Elastane
SIZES: XS – XXL
COST: Brief – $14.25; Hipster – $15.25
Let’s move into the new underwear line now. aussieBum has released the Punchline, which contains a brief in four color options: Red, Royal, Black, White, The name punch I would say comes from the back and side fabric. It has what looks like an eye-shaped punch throughout it. I suppose you could categorize it as mesh, but fairly large openings instead of a typical tighter mesh. Pretty much you’ll be showing off the rear in these. The pouch is a completely solid piece of fabric. All colors have a thick black elastic waistband with the aussieBum name on it. These are made out of a blend of Polyamide and Elastane. They recommend hand washing and hanging to dry. Here’s how aussieBum describes this brief.
“The PUNCH brief is designed for the man who likes to live by his rules and stand out from the crowd. These high spec undies feature a smooth elastane pouch and a comfortable mesh back that will keep you cool during the day and hot at night! The branded waistband reflects the attitude, confidence and front of those who dare to wear it. The new PUNCH is ready to bring out the rebel in you, go for it.”
PAIR: Punch
COLORS: White, Royal, Red, Black
FABRIC: Polyamide, Elastane
SIZES: S – XL
COST: $25.25
aussieBum NEW swimwear MIAMI from aussieBum on Vimeo.
Lastly, we’ll take a look of a new swimsuit from them. They call it the Miami line. They remind me a bit of a runner short crossed with a skimpy square cut swimsuit. These are a low rise pair and are available in 4 colors: Collins, Lincoln, Ocean, and Downtown. The suits have a main color with a splice of color on the sides. Collins is a black suit with a splice of white on the sides. Lincoln is navy with orange. Then there is Ocean which is a light or sky blue with white splices. Last up is Downtown, which is red with navy side splices. The suits have a drawstring to help keep them up. The colors of Collins and Lincoln have a black string, while Ocean and Downtown have a white one. aussieBum describes the Miami line as a bold vintage styling inspired by the iconic South Beach. The suit is proudly made in Australia of a blend of 80% nylon and 20% elastane. These can be machine washed but should be line dried.
PAIR: Miami
COLORS: Collins, Lincoln, Ocean, Downtown
FABRIC: 80% Nylon, 20% Elastane
SIZES: S – XL
COST: $30.50

If you are not ready to start a trend with a swim brief, then how about a trend with shorter swim trunks. aussieBum’s new swimwear is called Stubby. The name says it about these shorts with a very small inseam. Get those short tan lines a little shorter. Or use these for a stepping stone to make your way to a swim brief. An aussieBum swim brief at that. But these shorts aren’t just for swimming and the beach. They are great options for the gym or running too. They have a full mesh liner making them a great options for all kinds of activities.
Stubby shorts come in four color options. Get them in Black, Red, Navy, or Blue. Or go ahead and get them in all four colors. The shorts are made of a quick drying, bold colorfast fabric, which is 100% polyester. All colors feature a white waistband with drawstring. The piping around the leg openings is also white. Each pair has the capital letter A in white with black outline on the left side. These are designed in Sydney, Australia, but made in Bangladesh. Available in sizes S to XXL.
The shorts can be machine washed gentle, but it is not recommended to tumble dry. You can cool iron if needed though. If buying red, then they recommend washing separately due to color running. Also, they warn that tanning products including sunscreen will mark and stain the swimsuit. To help prevent this you should make sure the lotions are completely dry before they come in contact with the shorts. Always rinse swimwear immediately after use for best care.
Let’s break the men’s swimwear trend and start covering ourselves less. With that said, don’t just look at these as swimwear. They are great for anytime wear. Where would you wear the Stubby short?
BRAND: aussieBum
PAIR: Stubby
COLORS: Black, Red, Navy, Blue
FABRIC: 100% Polyester
SIZES: S – XXL
COST: $35.25
Marcuse makes some super sexy swimwear and underwear. This is their model Dmitri in some of their best summer swim from 2017.
One company I am really loving is The Mertailor. The suits are inspired by the sea and mermaids/men. Something different, from other stuff on the market. They have their own vision! This is the Caribbean Blue compression swim shorts. They retail for $35.00
We are joined but what you could call a swim brief expert, Adam from Sluggers Swimwear. We have profiled Sluggers on the site. But, for those who don’t know, Sluggers is an Aussie brand of swimwear. Adam, the man in charge, agreed to talk to us about swim briefs and the difference between the US and Australia.
Thanks for joining us, Adam. For as long as I can recall, swim briefs have been a part of life in Australia. I would see the life guards competing in them and the beach at Bondi with most guys wearing them. Why do you think is not a big deal to wear a swim brief there?
You might be amazed to hear this – but swimming in daylight hours on Aussie beached used to be illegal! The laws were only changed a few years before World War One. We have come a long way.
Like you pointed out – our lifeguards wear them. Old blokes wear them. Kids wear them. Even our ex-Prime Minister wears them at his local beach where he is a regular patrolling Life Guard.
If anything in Australia Sluggers are quite daggy. I often refer to Sluggers as being designed for the Fashion Bogan (which I guess is Aussie for Redneck) as that’s the group I identify with! We just show healthy and positive images of fellas wearing them. My whole approach with Sluggers was that we always targeted Men. Just Men. That was our customer – everything else is just a subset of that.
In Australia, we tend to get the Bogan Dads like me and fit young blokes in their late 20s and up who are looking for a good quality pair of swimmers at a reasonable price.
Somewhere along the line in the States Speedos went from being practical sportswear to something else. In America, it feels like you’re making a statement when you’re wearing them, whereas in Australia it’s because you’re going to get wet. It’s definitely a lot to do with how they are marketed.
Americans are also a lot more conservative than Australians when it comes to swimwear. Even your board shorts are a lot longer and baggier than ours, but I think that’s really because so many Americans live so far from the beach the surfwear isn’t really for surfing. We’re so alike in so many ways – but you can really spot the Aussies a mile off on the beach in Waikiki.
Over the last few years have you seen guys keeping the status quo or are guys moving away from the swim briefs?
In Australia, briefs are definitely coming back. Since we started Sluggers Swimwear in 2014, we have really seen an increase on the beach. I think this is partly because of the amount of new brands and styles out there, but also social media has shown fellas that it’s OK to wear them at the beach. I wear them because they are practical. You dry fast. And you get an epic tan line!
I really feel like there is a genuine resurgence in swimmers like our Sluggers. As one of our models recently pointed out, it’s becoming even less of a big deal to rock a pair, and we all think it’s yet to really explode.
It’s got a lot to do with the recent boom in fitness and health for young men. They’re eating better. Exercising a lot more, and drinking less alcohol. They’re proud of themselves, and they have incredible body confidence. When I was growing up very few of my mates had a ‘rig’. Now it’s like every bloke has a rig, and they are keen to get outside and make the most of it.
In the US, we have very few sports stars that would be seen in a swim brief. In Australia do you have rugby or football stars wearing swim briefs on the beach?
All the time! And the louder, the better. There’s an unofficial competition between players as to who can wear the loudest swimmers, and plenty of footy teams go for a dip in the ocean in the middle of winter for a natural ice bath. We have had locker room photos posted by footy players sporting a pair of Sluggers – especially our local team St George.
I’m curious as to how Australian’s see the US and our views on swim briefs?
I reckon you could lighten up a bit. A lot of a marketing for American brands (or brands in America) gets quite ‘soft porny’ so I can get why a lot of blokes feel a bit strange wearing them to the beach. I wouldn’t want to identify with that either – it’s not who I am.
When I think of an American in a “Speedo”, I think of a muscled up bloke in basketball shoes or roller blades listening to a walkman on Venice Beach! Haha! He’s probably wearing a lot of tanning oil as well. It’s a very 80s image.
When I think of an Aussie in Sluggers, he’s being active and having fun in the sun with his family or with his mates – and it’s a very contemporary image. You guys need to turn that image around! Or maybe let me borrow a Walkman next time I am in town … do you still have them?
Owning a swimwear company you sell swimwear to guys around the world. What do you see is the biggest difference between Aussie men and American men wearing swim briefs?
You guys go for the wider sides, and you wear them really high on your hips. In Australia, we wear them straight across the hips and pull them down from the back whereas you guys tend to pull them up at the sides when you come out of the water. (So you can really spot an American a mile away on Bondi Beach!)
To follow up on that question, we have talked about differences between the styles of swim briefs guys like. Your best seller style in Australia is different from the US. What do the Aussie guys prefer? What do US guys prefer? Why do you think there is a difference in preference?
We definitely sell more DEETEES and Classics in America. You guys must do some serious lunges or squats in school sport because Americans have bigger glutes than Aussies and tend to buy the styles made for guys with bigger bums. You can even see it on the images posted on social. You guys are solid!
What Aussie advice do you have to American men who want to wear swim briefs?
Get amongst it, son! Just don’t pull them up too high 🙂
All swimwear and sunglasses are available now in Sale on www.wapowear.com
Sluggers released a new line for Summer 18. The Aussie brand is gearing up for their summer! This is Bolters in Classics, Racerbacks and DEETEES. We will have something great from them soon!
Olaf Benz started its journey into men’s underwear in 1989. Founded by stylist and photographer Alfons Krauzer who still manages the designs for the lines. Olaf Benz differentiates itself by using the latest technologies, which will cover some of those innovations a bit later. The brand is certain that only an excellent product can create brand loyalty with customers. They believe their creativity is essential to this success.
Olaf Benz has quite a variety of styles in their collection. In underwear, they have the trunks also referred to as mini pants or hipsters. They offer briefs, but most are more a sports cut. There are different varieties of bikinis to choose from along with thongs (mini strings). Also in their lineup, you’ll find the boxer brief cut, boxers shorts, jocks, and leggings. Olaf Benz also offers quite a few options in swimwear. They got you covered with singlets or swim body suits and swim pants. Even have the swim shorts. There are square cut suits of varying leg lengths. Swim brief and bikini cuts of different side widths. Then for those that what cheek exposes, they have thongs too. They have a good selection of colors and prints throughout their offering.
Olaf Benz has several innovations in the swim and underwear realm. They introduced the first underwear series that can be scented individually with your personal fragrance. The warmth of the skin releases the fragrance that you applied to the integrated pad. They took an ultra fine mesh fabric developed for a Spacelab experiment and create their “Phantom” series with it. They integrated an indicator into swimming trunks to indicate when to reapply sunscreen. Depending on the UV intensity it changed color. One other example of innovation is they came up with a brief only weighing 14 grams instead of the ordinary underwear that can weigh up to 150 grams. Help save space and weight in the businessman’s luggage.
Expect to pay more for Olaf Benz items. They are more of a premium brand who prides themselves on using the finest and most innovative fabrics. Along with making their items with great care and skillful craftsmanship.
Have you tried the brand, Olaf Benz? If so let us know your thoughts on them in the comments.

I came across brand Grayson Boyd when Calum Winsor modeled for them at Miami Swim week. I was intrigued and had to learn more. Here is our interview.
For our readers who aren’t familiar with your brand, can you tell them who you are and your philosophy for making swim/resort wear?
Grayson Boyd is a men’s swim and resort wear brand that originated in Australia. Our range centers around prints that come from art work that we have created in-house exclusively for the brand. Our prints are a collection of paintings, drawings, photographs and digital art created by Sam Gray and Michael Boyd (co-founders) and creative associate Yangkyi Tenzin. Hailing from Australia, we have been inspired by our wildlife, landscapes, and lifestyle. Our prints are our branding, so you won’t find “Grayson Boyd” plastered all over our pieces, you’ll recognize the brand through the colorful expression. The philosophy behind making swim and resort wear is simple: it catches the eye, looks unbelievable and fits perfectly. Australians typically have a beach-centric lifestyle. The goal with Grayson Boyd was to create swim and resort wear pieces that can be worn to the beach, the pool, the bar, the hotel and to a Sunday afternoon BBQ that give you confidence and speak to your crowd boldly with style.
You previewed your new collection at the Miami Swim Show, what was it like to show your new collection on the runway? Was this the first time you had a runway show?
Miami Swim Week was actually the brand launch. By consequence, yes, it was our first runway show. We were really proud of our showing at Miami Swim Week. It was so much fun.
Our other business in Australia works with fashion houses and runway events frequently, so the experience wasn’t entirely foreign. That being so, we’d never shown our own collection and that experience was really special. South Beach, Miami was reminiscent for us of the Gold Coast, Australia, just on a much larger scale. We love the energy and vibe of the place. We’ll be back!
How did an Australian brand end up at Miami Swim week?
This is a fun one! With 500 Instagram followers on our Grayson Boyd page (pre-launch) we received a message from Art Hearts Fashion (show producer) 3 weeks prior to the event, inviting us to launch with a show at Miami Swim Week. We said yes.
You have a very interesting mix of designs. From swim briefs, shorts to resort wear. What made you focus on these three areas?
Versatility of lifestyle. Guys love options, and they usually know what looks best on their bodies. We wanted to give our customers options and opportunities to explore the brand in varied environments. Gray was a competitive swimmer at a national level in Australia and lived by the beach while working as a lawyer. Boyd was a fashion model who also hand manufactured board shorts for friends and works now as a Creative Director. We took our mutual love for swim wear and teamed that with functionality and style and let it naturally grew to include swim, shorts and resort wear.
Swim briefs aren’t HUGE in America, and it’s better accepted in Australia. What are you doing to reach guys to wear them?
Yeah, Australia loves our swim briefs. We’ve found that Miami and Los Angeles embrace swim briefs a lot more readily than the rest of America. The gay community here is also fairly drawn to them. We’re currently running a competition to win $500 worth of Grayson Boyd product, and runners-up receive swim briefs. You can check out the details on our Instagram @graysonboyd_official. NYFW is also coming up and while we’re not doing a show, keep your eyes peeled for some men in swim briefs.
Australia is heading into summer now, so we’re looking forward to going home and seeing Grayson Boyd all over Bondi Beach. If swim briefs don’t latch on in America, we have shorts and resort wear to suit the men over here.
Having a unique style, what type of guy is the Grayson Boyd guy? Who wears your brand?
Grayson Boyd is a 70’s hustler-x-cowboy with a thick Australian accent. If you’re Grayson Boyd, you’re confident, cool and you turn heads when you walk into a room. You are equal parts sexy and playful and your mate’s bank on you for a good time. You’re a high flier, the guy who is always groomed but never over done.
We hope you enjoyed our interview. Find all the great things Grayson Boyd makes at their website!
Today is the last Swimwear Sunday of 2017. We have profiled some awesome pairs over this swimwear journey. From basics to dare as you bare. And I think everything in between. The last one I wanted something spectacular and scoured the net for something amazing. And I think I found it. I choose something I LOVE and would wear!
A company we will interview soon is The MerTailor. One of their pairs really jumped out at me. It’s the Octopus Rock Gold Bomber Trunk. It’s a print of different color octopus on a solid background. This print is super fun to me and amazing. It is a MUST have for me! I like to have swimwear that is fun and different from the regular solids. If you look through the site you will see, yes they have solids, but the prints are amazing.
The trunk is a style I will wear now. I need to get in better shape for swimwear in 2018. the Mertailor Bomber Boxer is a classic cut from the brand. They make a point to say there is plenty of room up front for your sailor. Meaning it has ample room up front for any guy to rock on the beach.
The swimwear is made out of a polyamide and spandex blend. Meaning it will fit great and hold its shape. Also, made for salt or chlorinated water. The white should not be see through. Unlike some brands, I feel this one will have everything lined and now show off. Which is important to me. I don’t want to be arrested on the beach.
If you love this print as much as I do. I have good and bad news. First the bad news, it’s not available in a brief. The good news is it’s available in runners! You can work out or run in octopus every day you wear them! Super fun! The pair retails from The Mertailor for $65 and is in sizes XS – XL! Go shop
It’s time to enjoy the last unofficial weekend of summer. Or as we like to call it at UNB that last Swim brief weekend. Grab your JOR swim briefs and go have fun in the sun.
Another brand we met with in Vegas was Hashtag Hooker. It was a coincidence they were there. They weren’t attending Project. But this is their Mick Swim Trunk. We hope you will check it out!
We are winding our way down in the Swimwear Sunday segment. Only one more left before we retire the segment till next year! We have had a variety of pairs over this summer. They range from beginners to show off level. We have guys along every part of that spectrum. Today we thought we would go to the show off side of the spectrum. We have profiled a few but not a lot of barely there, wear if you dare pairs.
The pair we are showing is the Gian Gianni XXX Red Gold suit. Here is the official write up about the pair from the Gian Gianni site:
With its sexy double cross waistband and contrast of red and gold this brief is a real show stopper. The material is made with soft stretch netting that has tiny breathable holes for a more erotic appeal. Double stitched for durability. Impress your partner with this trunk which leaves almost nothing to the imagination. Made of nylon blend fabric, Lining free . Fabric: 82% Nylon 18% Spandex
This pair is a lower cut than most pairs we have profiled. The X design makes it way more revealing on the sides and makes the lower front. Make no doubt you will show off more than you have in other swim briefs we have recommended. Some of you reading this will say no way, while we have a whole subset who will rock this and have fun wearing it.
Swimwear Sunday is about getting out of your comfort zone and trying new things. Not letting others tell you that you should wear board shorts or shorts to the beach. It’s about starting a swimwear revolution in the US and let guys regardless of sexual orientation where what ever they want on what ever beach they want.
If you don’t want to rock these Gian Gianni has some amazing prints in larger cuts as well but give this one a look over. Oh one more thing. Look at the size chart! They run smaller than other brands.
We are joined by a new video reviewer, Andrew (@andrewjs1987 snapchat). He is reviewing the Hunk2 Alphae Patrie²swim suit (https://hunk2.com/product/alphae-patr…)
