Men’s Underwear

Category

As a college guy, it’s important to me to stay fit. I’ve experimented with a lot of different pairs when going to the gym, and have realized not all are created equal. In addition, I’ve found that certain pairs are better for certain exercises. The following lists what underwear I recommend you should wear to maximize your gains and get swole.

Strength Training: Aussiebum Wonderjock Pro Jock

When lifting weights, it’s important to have support, not have your junk swinging everywhere, and have a full range of motion for exercises like squats. That’s why I always go with a jockstrap. Although some guys are turning away from the jockstrap for workouts, it was the tried and true choice of guys exercising for decades, so there’s obviously a reason for that. I’m especially partial to the Aussiebum Wonderjock Pro, which is more comfortable and supportive than any on the market today. It’s integrated with 90% cotton and 10% elastane, which is soft and able to handle excess moisture. It’s very affordable even being shipped from Australia, which is a major plus for me. The extra lift from their patented pouch enhancing technology is the secret weapon, because it will definitely give you a confidence boost in the gym. Guys will probably stare in the locker room!

Endurance Training: Saxx Kinetic Boxer Brief

I’ve found that a lot of guys focus too much on pumping iron and ignore endurance training. This can include things like spinning, Zumba, or high-intensity dancing. Doing these types of exercises can improve your cardiovascular, muscular, and respiratory endurance, allowing you to withstand pain and fatigue. To do this, it’s crucial to have the right pair of underwear, especially one that can deal with sweat. Saxx is one of my favorite brands, and they make a pair specifically designed for high-output activities. The Kinetic Boxer Brief is loaded with patented technology like the BallPark pouch, antimicrobial technology, and Three-D Fit, which is form-fitting around the glutes, thighs, quads and hamstrings. Since it’s 90% nylon and 10% spandex, it’s moisture-wicking and quick-drying. You can’t go wrong with this pair for really any type of intense workout.

Core Workout: BaskitWear Active Jockbrief

Ab workouts are by far my favorite day of my workout rotation. My go to pair for these workouts is a jockbrief from Baskit. This line is specially made for active guys, and I like the jockbrief style because it has the same level of support and comfort of a brief but offers extra freedom to move. I actually have it in all three colors, Super White, Navy Blue, and Cement, because it allows me to wear this same pair every core day if I haven’t done laundry. It’s 90% Micro Modal and 10% elastane, a classic blend for workouts. Perhaps my favorite aspect is how the colors and waistband are inspired by those shorts worn by boxers in the early twentieth century.

It’s no secret that Andrew Christian has a reputation for being a brand geared towards gay men. Just open their site and you’re bombarded with pictures of chiseled models wearing skimpy underwear that showcases their prominent bulges. For the average straight guy, this makes it difficult to shop on the site, and wearing their underwear carries the same issues. I don’t fault anyone for that because as I’m writing this article, their website homepage has a photo of a guy in a cage wearing only a jockstrap being fondled by other similarly clad men. Irrespective of their marketing, Andrew Christian makes some of the most innovative, comfortable, and stylish underwear on the market today that anyone, gay or straight, would like if they gave it a chance.

A few years ago, there was a video on YouTube called “Straight Guys React to Andrew Christian Underwear.” There were the predictable confusion and giggles regarding some of the more exotic pairs, but interestingly some said they would wear it if their girlfriend wanted them to. Another comment that stuck out to me was a frat guy who said he could see some of his brothers wearing a pair like this because it would show they’re confident in their masculinity and that they’re an alpha. Indeed, their line of Trophy Boy underwear would reflect just that.

When I first tried a pair, it was a completely positive experience. It was a blue Almost Naked brief, about as conservative as they come with this brand. The design and cut made me feel bigger down there and my package was no longer squeezed or pressed against my body. I had never worn underwear as comfortable and undeniably sexy as that pair. At that point, I could have continued with the attitude that Andrew Christian is a gay brand and so I shouldn’t be wearing it, or I could have been rational and realized that their products are amazing. I decided to go with the latter and haven’t looked back since. If I had gone with the former, I would have just been contributing to homophobia and not allowing myself to be comfortable. My girlfriend also likes the brand, so has regularly picked out pairs she likes for me to wear. If you want to take the first step, you can buy Andrew Christian on Amazon in order to avoid going on their website if it makes you uncomfortable.

Hopefully, my fellow straight guys can get over this stigma. Wearing Andrew Christian cannot make a straight guy gay. In fact, the only thing it can make a straight guy is sexier.

We have all kinds of readers of UNB. Those who have been into underwear for years and have 100’s if not thousand pairs. On the other hand we have guys, of all ages, who just discovered underwear. Underwear 101 is a series we have to address some of the questions guys have about underwear. For our more experienced readers, they may not read them but we hope it helps other guys discover more underwear.

What is an ergonoical pouch?

You may have heard this on UNB. I’m pretty sure you’ve heard it a lot on UNB. Most of our guys love this kind of pouch. Men’s underwear comes in a few different pouches. First, there are pairs with no pouch. The front is one piece of fabric with no seam or designed pouch. The best example of this is Jockey Elance bikinis. The next is a what I call a contoured pouch. It’s a pouch built into underwear. It usually has a front seam in the design and is made to give you support. Brands like Clever Moda have this type of design.

Lastly, is the ergonomical pouch. It’s designed to fit a guy and how he naturally hangs. There are several types of pouches. Some of them enhance while others give a natural feel to the pouch. These usually have a lot of research and design behind them. As I said above not all pouches are the same. It’s important to find what you like best.

For example, Ergowear has three different pouches. The X3D, Feel and Max. I love all ut the Feel. It’s not that it’s a bad design, In fact, it’s pretty awesome design and it has fans. I don’t like it due to the way it fits me. It’s a personal preference. I feel I move too much in the pouch. I like things to stay in place.

Here are some great pouches to check out (This is a short list, there are a ton more to check out):

  • Cocksox CX01 – This was my very first ergonomically designed pouch. It’s more like the wonder bra for men. It takes what you have and shows it off. I’ve described these as very bulgetastic. These will enhance and could show off a bigger bulge than you may want.  So it may not be good for work or family occasions.
  • Andrew Christian Almost Naked – One of AC first ergonomically designed pairs. It “allows you to hang freely” It’s available in just about every pair they make. I prefer the briefs but go with the styel you love best.
  • Ergowear Max – “the pouch is manufactured in a three-dimensional shape that slightly lifts your genitals up and away from the legs, in a cozy yet fully protective manner. Made in many favrics and colors. “
  • Ergowear x3D – “The X3D pouch is an original take in male underwear. A stretchy pouch that is designed to accommodate your genitals up and away, to avoid squeezing and adding a layer of flexibility and a slight enhancement for a provocative silhouette” My favorite pouch from Erogwear.
  • Ergowear Feel –“The Feel have a traditional look but are still true to our anatomically correct principles of men’s underwear. They feature a roomy and enhancing FEEL pouch with an adaptable profile”
  • Obviously – “AnatoMAX is the most recent pouch release and it is the largest pouch design available from Obviously. It provides a naturally shaped, anatomical pouch with MAXimum size, MAXimum space and MAXimum comfort. For those customers who previously enjoyed the Modal Range anatomical pouch – AnatoMAX is for you.”
  • Sukrew  – They don’t push the ergonomical pouch in their promotional text. You can see it in their pics. It’s one of those under the radar and in every pair they make. From thongs to oboxer briefs.
  • Big Boys Pants – BBP is a little known UK brand. They are amazing and designed by guys who need a bigger and more comfortable pouch. I have heard a rumor they maybe updating their collection this year. This is a brand worth checking out.

Other Honorable mentions are John Sievers line from International Jock, N2N Bodywear N-hance and  AC Trophy Boy,

We hope this helps. If you have any questions feel free to comment and reach out to us.

Two of the newest guys in the world of Underwear are the Garcon Model boys. Named David and AJ. If you follow Garcon Model on Instagram you have seen these guys. Tell our readers a little bit about you guys. (Hobbies, relationship, work (general area if you want), I know we will have guys ask if they are a real couple.

What made you guys come on board and be the face of Garcon Model Online? How did GM find you?

[AJ]: We’ve really loved sharing our experiences on Instagram, and one of the most rewarding aspects has been the connections with friends of old and new. Top on this list is our connection with Garcon. We were first connected to Garcon when one of their co-founders saw a post of us wearing some of their underwear (which we received as part of an Underwear Expert box) and decided to reach out.

[Dave]: When GM asked us to rep the brand for them, we were very pleasantly surprised – we had never done anything like this before, but were intrigued by the idea. We talked it over between ourselves, and since we love their product and brand so much, we decided to hop on board and see where everything would go. So far, we’ve really enjoyed sharing our enthusiasm for Garcon with our friends and Instagram followers.

Before you were the face of the brand did you two like underwear? Were you a fan of Garcon Model?

[Dave]: We had done some one-off Instagram projects with a couple of underwear brands before, and we had fun coming up with interesting shots to promote the product we had been sent. We also got to try out a lot of brands that we hadn’t been exposed to before.

[AJ]: When the GM underwear came in our Underwear Expert box, it was new to us. We were immediately taken by the fun colors and sleek logo on the waistband. Upon trying them on, we loved both the fit and the quality of the fabric. They became instant favorites.

[Dave]: When we saw that they supported the #loveislove campaign on Instagram, we were totally sold. We knew this was a company that had not only a great product, but that also aligned with our personal values.

You guys have tried probably every pair of the GM lineup. Do you have a favorite style? Color?

[Dave]: In the past I’ve shied away from bright colors in my underwear drawer, opting for more classic black/white/gray styles. (AJ would use the word “boring”.) But the GM underwear has really turned me on to the fun and bright color combinations they use. They’re fun and attention-grabbing without being gaudy.

[AJ]: I’ve always liked bright colors, but the GM styles really stand out. And every cut is great. I’m more of a briefs guy, and Dave likes both briefs and trunks.

[Dave]: And both of us love the fit of the jocks! Oh and they have awesome new hats, too. We wear them constantly!

I said earlier you guys are the face of the brand and that’s true now that you shot the new collection. Was this the first time you guys have done an official shoot for the brand?

[AJ]: Yeah, this was our first shoot with the brand, and really our first professional shoot like this ever. It was such a cool experience. We had so much fun with the photographer (Anthony Deeying, @anthonydeeying) and his team.

[Dave]: Anthony and his team are all professionals, so they knew how to keep things moving and keep the energy up despite the long day. It really was a pleasure working with them.

From the behind the scenes pics and videos you posted on Instagram, you looked like you had fun. Underwear shoots can make for a long day.  How did you keep it fun through the shoot?

[AJ]: Well, first of all we had each other so we were bound to have a good time.

[Dave]: Aw. Isn’t he the sweetest?

[AJ]: And Anthony, the photog, and his team were really great. We were throwing jokes around the whole time and laughing a lot.

[Dave]: You can’t take yourself too seriously when you’re in your underwear in front of a camera!

You both got to see and wear the new collection. Any favorites or pairs our readers should take note of when the collection is released?

[AJ]: I definitely love the new orange color. It’s bright and puts a smile on my face in the morning when I put them on.

[Dave]: I’m partial to the pink. It really pops and is something I’ve never had in my underwear drawer before.

Why should guys try Garcon Model underwear?

[Dave]: It’s a super versatile brand, so there’s a GM style for everyone. They’re a great way to work some colors that really pop into your underwear repertoire. (And their basic black/white options are classy and comfy, too!)

[AJ]: For me Garcon underwear is a really great balance between comfort and style. I feel great when I wear them and I feel damn sexy when someone gets a peek of me in them.

[Dave]: And he looks it, too!

You wear their fun swimwear too. We have what we call the Swim Brief Challenge, every year to encourage guys to wear them. Why do you think more guys should wear them?

[AJ]: Brief-cut swimsuits are the best. It’s a real shame Americans don’t wear them more often. For me, briefs allow me to be the most comfortable at the beach while also showing off my leg days at the gym – those aren’t easy work!

[Dave]: I’ll second that. Life is too short for baggy unflattering board shorts. And the GM swimsuits are the perfect remedy.

What is something our readers would be surprised to know about you guys?

[AJ]: Well, many people are surprised when we tell them that we live in different cities (Boston and New York). People see our Instagram (@monkey_bizniss), which has pictures of us together all the time. But in reality we usually only get to see each other on the weekends. We actually started our Instagram account as a way to feel a bit closer to each other when we were apart and to motivate us to take pictures of activities and events when we were together.

[Dave]: The distance isn’t easy, but we take the good with the bad. Not getting to see each other every day has made us really value and protect the time that we do get to spend together.

In the pictures, you have done a lot of things, what has been the best thing you have done while representing Garcon Model?

[Dave]: We’ve been able to travel as official brand reps for some really fun events, like the Atlantis cruise this past January and the Winter Party festival in Miami in March.

[AJ]: Coming up, we have the Matinee Las Vegas event over Memorial Day. Expect to see some really fun pics from the water park!

What do you have planned for the future? (Any events, etc)

[AJ]: We love to travel and really enjoy going to events all over. This summer we will be in Vegas, New York, Boston, Ptown (our favorite!), maybe Fire Island, and possibly Barcelona.

[Dave]: And wherever we are, you can count on us rocking the GM brand. Look for us and say hi!

We’d love for you to answer a few rapid fire questions. These are just one-word answers or yes or no

Brief or bikini? Brief

Jock or thong? Jock!

Swim Brief or Trunk? Swim Brief

Beach or Mountains? Both!

City/Country you want to visit? Maldives

What are your date night undies? GM briefs!

What’s your best feature? [AJ]: Dave would probably say my butt 😉 [Dave]: AJ’s butt.

Oddest place you have been in undies? Our friends’ backyard after a big New England snowstorm. Brrrr!

Favorite Workout Undies? (Style) Jock straps 😉

Have you been recognized as the GM boys?  Ha! It’s starting to happen more and more. The first time it kind of caught us off guard, but now we really enjoy talking about the brand with new fans. If you see us out and about, you should say hi!

Where can our readers find you?

Follow our adventures on Instagram at @monkey_bizniss, and also right on the @garcon_model page.

We know a lot of you love thongs. Some have the courage to wear them out and others don’t. We asked @Sixfootfiveguy on Twitter to talk about how he started to wear thongs to the gym exclusively. He gave up jocks and now just thongs it to the gym.

Lately you have been posting tons of pics of you in the gym thonged. What made you start wearing thongs to the gym?

At first it was jocks, because jocks had become trendy and more readily available. But to be honest the straps never stayed in place. I had some N2N thongs and experimented wearing them and found that once I got used to the strap they were perfect (and made a sexy bulge).

When did you make the change to just thongs only for the gym?

Probably about a year ago I had enough balls and enough thongs for everyday gym.

Many of our readers want to wear thongs to the gym but don’t have the courage to do so yet. Have you had any strange look from guys? How did you handle them?

In the beginning I used to put my thong in my shorts and put them on together. I was more comfortable naked than with a thong on. But overtime I stopped carrying because it’s their issue not mine.

What advice do you have to those guys who are hesitant about wearing them to the gym?

Start simple! Maybe a 2xist Y Back Jock or something from Joe Snyder. You’ll find a cut that you like the most. Thongs vary in strap width so fine one you like.

What are your favorite thongs to wear to the gym?

  • Ergowear Max Thongs
  • Custom M-Wear
  • Muscleskins 1/2″ posers with thong backs
  • Joe Snyder Bulge Thongs

Have you seen on Twitter/Instagram you have inspired other guys to rock the thong at the gym?

Oh yes! I get messages from tiny bros and big dudes alike! I retweet them all the time on @sixfootfiveguy

Did you carry over your thongs to the pool or beach yet?

I have where it’s appropriate! I do it in Chicago on Hollywood beach and I’m visiting LA and Las Vegas soon and hope to sun these buns.

Jockstrap Central wants you to discover JC Athletic Classic Jockstraps so until Friday, May 5th, they’re offering their already inexpensive JC Athletic Classic Sports Jocks for $1.50 off the regular price.

As you probably know by now, Jockstrap Central launched their own line of sports jockstraps back in March. They did so, partly because it was always part of their bigger plan but partly because of the loss of Bike, Flarico and Activeman. They took our 12 years of experience wearing jockstraps and running Jockstrap Central to create what they feel is the ultimate sports jock. Well, the reviews are in and based on customer reactions and testimonials, their Classics are destined to become, well, classics. Here’s just a few of their customer’s testimonials:

“I got the jock yesterday and I’m wearing it today! It’s so soft and comfy. The waistband sits perfectly and doesn’t feel like it’s cutting into me. The pouch is soft and feels great on my junk. It’s a great jock!” – Chris W., Virginia

“As a working man, your new JC jock is the jock I’ve been waiting for someone to make all my life.” – Dave C, Montana

“Love your JC Athletics jocks! Great quality, durable and *amazing* fit” – John M, California

…along with a whole bunch of their regular customers who bought one, wore it, loved it and immediately bought 5 and even 10 more.

So, if you haven’t already, now’s your chance to pick one up to try them for yourselves. Currently, they have either a 3 inch or Swimmer version and both come in either black or white. Although both have a plushed inside to the waistband it’s more apparent in the 3 Inch Jocks and finally, as they always disliked the excess fabric at the base of most sports jock pouches they contoured theirs so they fit and look better.”

Well, just when you don’t think you will get any more N2N Bodywear, they release yet another pair. This pair is one you have seen before. It’s the Indy Racer. When I first saw this pair I thought it was a pair of swimwear. I swear it looks just like swim! But it’s not its a brief!

If you are a fan of bikinis this pair is for you. The bikini is making a come back in the general underwear industry. However, N2N Bodywear has always had bikinis. I honestly, can’t remember a time when they didn’t have some sort of bikini. Which is a good thing!

The pair is made out of super soft, light and thin cotton spandex. Making it super comfortable to wearing multiple occasions. It has a full back. I prefer a bikini with a full back and not cut small. Lastly, it has a seamless pouch. Seamless pouches can be good or bad. That being said you don’t have to worry about this with N2N. They are the pouch masters! I think all their pouches fit amazing.

The colors are Mint, Gray, and Navy. I love the Mint! But all three colors are pretty amazing. You can match your style. If you’re looking to show off do the mint. For a little low-key go gray. and to be classic go with Navy.

This month marks the 20th anniversary of N2N Bodywear. We have a lot planned to celebrate. So stay tuned for a month long celebration!

Every once and while, I get a glimpse of my male friend’s underwear, either in the laundry room or when their waistbands are visible. Even in this booming era of underwear marketed towards straight guys, and with increased interest noted in the media, the vast majority are still wearing the same Hanes and Fruit of the Loom boxer briefs that they’ve been wearing for years. This is simply mind-boggling to me.

When I first discovered a brand that wasn’t Hanes or Fruit of the Loom, I switched to that and never looked back. It was easy for me. I understand that others, however, might need to take baby steps on the road towards underwear nirvana. So I’m not advocating for all straight guys to immediately throw out all of their underwear and spend hundreds of dollars to replace it with Andrew Christian. Instead, I believe that every guy needs to start with one high-quality pair and go from there. I would aim for spending $20 on a popular brand like Calvin Klein, MeUndies, Under Armour, or Mack Weldon. There are very few guys new to the underwear world who could pick out a pair from one of these brands and not like it. While this may seem pricey, I’d rather spend $20 on a great pair that will last longer and make me look great compared to $2 on a pair with a waistband that wraps after one washing and isn’t form fitting at all.

Once you’ve realized what you’ve been missing, it’s time to start fixing that underwear drawer. Whenever you feel like you’re able, buy another pair of underwear and throw an old pair out. After a while, if you want to branch out, start looking at trunks and briefs. I’ve found that women like these styles the best because guys usually look best in them, particularly when they’re something beyond whitey tighties. Do some research on different brands and discover the one that’s right for you (UNB can help with that). If you’re a college guy on a budget like I am, it’s still possible to afford better undies. You can check out places like TJ Maxx, where there are usually upscale brands on sale, and CheapUndies, which offers daily deals on great brands.

Together, we can break loose from the chains of Hanes and Fruit of the Loom. Most of us would not wear ill-fitting, cheaply made, or drab clothing, so why would anyone do that with underwear? Guys, step your game up. Your girlfriend will thank you. Your package will thank you. And even your wallet will thank you in the long run.

Our swimwear Sunday pair today is one that I caught a glimpse of this week while I was looking up something else on the Andrew Christian site. I was like WHOA what is this? I stopped my search and saved it for today. Andrew Christian has always has some amazing swimwear each season, and this summer is no different.

The Curve bikini has three of my favorite colors in swimwear. Blue, white and red. I have had a few pairs over the years with this combination. The way the colors are sewn together make this POP to me. It’s not a big enough pop like the previous cheetah print that will draw major attention to you. But I’m pretty sure that you may get some compliments. This is the best color combination in swimwear. PERIOD, sorry couldn’t resist.

The official descption from Andrew Christian is:

Chic and sexy, the Limited Edition Curve Bikini will have you looking your best! With a unique asymmetrical color blocking design, this piece is a work of art. Featuring our slimming waistband and snug leg openings, make this body-hugging unlined bikini look and feel painted on. The front pouch has a seam to increase volume and pull eyes on the anatomically correct pouch. When you pull them on, the quick drying and lightweight material feels you’re not wearing anything at all.

I think this is a must have pair for summer. There are many of you out there who believe like I do that you should have more than one pair of swimwear for summer. So put this in your rotation and wear it often! I don’t think you will be disappointed. Find this pair at the Andrew Christian Site.
