Men’s Underwear

Category

GivingNow, I want to start with a clarification. One of my previous posts was about buying underwear for a friend, you can find it on the website.  This piece is different in a few key ways. First, when buying pairs for friends you have a bit more freedom as to what to buy because it is your money that is being spent. Although as pointed out in the piece there are still points and thoughts to consider regardless. Second, buying for someone else can be much more about you than them. Not to make it sound selfish but it’s true. We give a little bit of ourselves with every gift and you do get to take into consideration your opinions or wishes more so in that case. However, with advice, it should be much more about them. Personalized as best as possible.

Giving advice always is a bit tricky. On the site I write a lot of reviews and reviews, to me, are much easier than advice because it is a more straightforward. As Walter Cronkite would say, “And that’s way it is,” type of a piece. Advice needs to be precise for an individual and it much more than about one pair. It throws open the entire Underworld universe for possibilities. Yikes!

Yet we must never shirk away from giving the advice when it comes to underwear because we always want to encourage the discussion and the community of underwear enthusiasm. If someone has come to you for advice on underwear it is a badge of honor. They respect your opinion, thoughts and underwear knowledge. It may also have been a difficult or even awkward thing for them to ask you about. So we must be excited that they did! When you aren’t used to talking, writing, or thinking about underwear as much as some of us it can feel awkward.

So let’s give some advice:

Background info:

Ask the person what type of underwear he generally wears or is looking to buy. Remember, it’s his underwear and his money so we need guidelines! Getting a sense of his cut preference and perhaps brands he generally wears can help give you a sense of direction.

If a friend asked me for advice and he says that he generally wears trunks and more generic ones at that. Say Jockey or Hanes (both perfectly valid brands btw. I wear Jockey athletic trunks almost exclusively for my workouts) then you have a taste for where you might direct them. Perhaps Private Structure would be good for their trunk needs. Very classic yet very well made and often in fun colors. If that doesn’t suit them then maybe PUMP! For a bit more of an adventurous trunk (be careful on sizing, PUMP! Can tend to run a bit small).

Range of Acceptance:

Okay so I am borrowing this term from my old argumentation/debate days but I think it applies. You’ve figured out what he usually wears, style and brand. Now let’s figure out what he would wear. Perhaps, as stated above, our friend usually wears trunks but would he be amenable to wearing briefs? Not to say that we’ll start him out in a bikini but maybe a nice hip brief. Here is where you can push but not too hard. Try to see if expanding his comfort zone is possible or if it will just result in never worn underwear.

If you’re going to suggest a new cut, totally valid, think a bit strategically. A good way to go about it might be to recommend a brand that does his original cut.  In addition to the new cut that you’re advising. This way if he eventually didn’t care for the new or different cut he may have discovered a new favorite brand in the meantime! Still a win.

Keep it simple:

You have no idea how hard it was to not write ‘stupid’ after that. It’s just automatic. But yes, keep it simple. Give him freedom in what you recommend. Direct them to a particular brand with recommendations on cut.  Don’t get overly specific unless he really just wants one pin pointed pair. “Have you looked at N2N’s new briefs? They might be a good place to start.” A recommendation like that gives them so many more options and so much more freedom then, “You should get the <insert pair here>.” That type of suggestion leaves them with only a Yes/No type of response.

Keeping is simple like that also allows for him to navigate the murky world of pricing. Let’s face it, some people just will never be comfortable paying over $20 for a pair of underwear and leaving them with more open advice allows them to price shop in a focused area.

Speaking of Pricing:

Many of the folks who might ask you for advice (as just mentioned) do not, would not pay as much as perhaps you or I would on underwear. For me, it’s just part of my life’s budget and I make do with that. Not so much for others. So. Directing them to, “Try looking at Baskit on Tuesdays for their $12 deals, they make a good, solid brief,” can help them be more comfortable spending the money as well. Remember the sales sections! (write that on my tombstone one day, please).

The overall and most important thing is, of course, to think about the person. Your advice might set them on a path of incredible underwear bliss for a lifetime. Inform yourself, find his range, and keep things simple.

All of this was brought on when a friend just recently asked me for advice on buying new underwear. I also immediately told him a new brand that I am falling more and more for (what up Teamm8!). I realized that he would be much more comfortable with options. So I stopped myself and thought it through a bit more. He is a fairly classic guy who really just wants a comfortable, solid pair of underwear that he might throw on for a day at work or a special occasion.

Eventually I arrived at telling him, “For briefs, you might want to try looking at Garcon Model. If you’re feeling more trunks, Jack Adams or PUMP! might be fun ones to try”. For other friends I would have other recommendations but for him, these ones all just felt right. I have previously recommended to friends, JOR briefs, Andrew Christian briefs, N2N thongs, Nasty Pig jockstraps, BumChum trunks, and a whole lot more.

Junk UnderJeans Junk X TrunkJunk UnderJeans furnished the Junk X Boxer for Review

Rating: 8.6/10

  • Daily Fit: 8/10
  • Sizing: 9/10
  • Construction: 9/10
  • Styling: 9/10
  • Daily Performance: 8/10

Pros: Junk X Pouch, contemporary design, great material

Cons: Waistband rolled on me during wear

UNB Tim recommendation: These are great for the gym or work. They are made for a guy with a bit more junk in the front. However, the front won’t be too big for you. The trunks held their shape all day and gave me the perfect amount of support.

I continue my Junk UnderJeans reviews. The Junk X has a really good pouch. Junk X pouch is one that is a bit roomier. It, however, won’t be oversized. There are  a few pouches on the market unless you can fill them out they look like you are wearing a sock on your junk. The design of the pouch is very good. Hats off to Junk for creating this line!

The pair I’m reviewing is the Junk UnderJeans Junk X Trunk. As many long time readers know, I”m not the biggest fan of trunks or boxer briefs. Mainly because of the lack of support. I feel by the end of the day I’m in a pair of boxers. My hopes were high for this pair with the pouch.

I wore this on a weekend in a more relaxed time. There was no lifting or outdoors for this pair. Being a style that isn’t my favorite, I didn’t want to push my luck. They held up really well. The pouch lived up to my expectations. It kept everything in place and kept its form. It didn’t suffer one of my other pet peeves for boxer briefs/trunks. The legs held in place all day. I could have worn them to work.

The only down size is like the Junk X Jock I reviewed. The waistband rolled a bit on me. Like the jock, I really didn’t notice it was happening until I took them off. Usually when a band rolls or binds it gets uncomfortable. This one did not. I think it was because of the material of the waistband. Why does this happen? I think it’s the way I am built. I don’t think it’s something Junk UnderJeans is doing wrong. The briefs fit amazing. We have all had those pairs where they didn’t fit us in one area. I don’t hold this as a defect or flaw in them but more in me!

The sizing is really great for Junk UnderJeans. I have had no issues of pairs being too small or big. They have been spot on for all the pairs I have received. Just double check the size charts. Note that some pairs go up to 2 and 3 XL now. So it’s not just for small guys!

The design is a sporty design. You could definitely wear them to the gym. They are classic with a pop color. Perfect for work, the gym or hanging at home!

Hey kinksters,

Hope you’re having a great week. Sorry to have missed you last week, July has been quite intense but have no fear. I am back, and this week, I have quite a fun unusual trend I’m seeing pop up here and there. I cannot say this is a fetish I know about, but I had to write about it, cause it’s definitely out there.  I think it’s pretty dang cool. It definitely is not a traditional underwear/fashion idea. It evokes a kind of Tron-like aesthetic to me, and the concept is fascinating. Wondering what I’m talking about? I don’t know exactly how to describe it. I could call it Illusion Mesh Play, or maybe Floating Fabric Gear? I don’t know…but below is when it popped up for me as a thing happening in men’s underwear.

IllusionMeshMarco1

It was the Marco Marco fashion show video, and all of a sudden these models were coming down the runway. With what it looked like panels of fabric somehow stuck to their body in an artful way that created line and shape. What was actually occurring was the designers had sewn patches of opaque fabric on top of a garment. In order to create the illusion that the patches were wrapping themselves around the body.

IllusionMeshMarco2

Now, for those new to the term “illusion mesh”, it is a fabric found most often in dance wear/figure skating. It is a very thin fabric that is made of a very fine mesh, ideally made in a skin tone. When worn by a person with a close skin tone, the fabric essentially disappears against the body. For a very long time, I had only really seen illusion mesh in figure skating routines. Then, on Project Runway, Dmitry Sholokhov made a dress where all the panels were connected with a strip of the illusion mesh. It give all the pieces a slight floating effect.

Now, unlike mesh we’ve previously talked about. The whole point of this mesh is to disappear. Giving any fabrics sewn to it the look that they are magically stuck to the wearer. In my opinion, the magical nude non-nudity is a really sexy look. You get the tactile sensation of spandex, but the visual sensation of the person’s skin. That’s pretty dang cool.

Now, Marco Marco, while awesome, doesn’t necessarily read as a fetish brand. But, yet there is a champion out there. Catering to a wonderful stretch fetishwear audience, and that champion is Slick It Up. Based out of NYC.  Slick It Up focuses on using spandex alternatives to rubber, leather, and latex. While keeping the sex appeal extremely high. The piece I’d like to draw your attention to is called the Neon Nude Suit

IllusionMesh1

This suit is part latex-like spandex, part nude mesh. The latex covers up the most essentials. Then roams around a bit creating pleasing contours on the body. I find this quite hot. I could see this at a super cool dance club, or a electronic themed strip club, or hacker/cybertopia roleplay.

IllusionMesh2

What I also find interesting about this look (and I am hypothesizing here). Is that I feel like it can cater to a wider range of body types than a lot of fetish wear on the market. This could work on the beanpole twink, having the contours of the spandex create more definition in the body, and it can work on the beefy guys. The negative and positive space play using the nude mesh and opaque accents create sensual lines no matter what.

IllusionMesh4

If you’re more into the Marco Marco undies, those can be found at the Marco Marco Site.

If you wanna show me how you look in the Neon Nude Suit from Slick It Up Site.

So please, help me out, send me pics of you in this suit. I wanna collect *ahem* as much data as I can. Show me how it looks on you. Tell me where you are gonna wear it.

Sincerely,

The guy cheering for you, and helping you zip up if you need. (Trust me, as a circus artist, I know how important it is to have a friend zip/unzip you in a time of need.

TtheAmazing, over and out.

Cha-Ching: Save On Those Undies

Ok, I’ll admit it I’m somewhat of a penny pincher. A little less so when it comes to underwear than other things, but I watch and wait for deals. Since getting married and having kids, I’ve had to cut down on my underwear spending. Nowadays I try to get the most bang for my buck. One thing I follow pretty strictly is not to pay more than $12 a pair though I do have a splurge rule. The rule is that if it is a pair I really want and it is on sale for a great price then I can consider it. Let’s move on to some of my methods to try and keep my spending under control.

First, there are some brands of underwear out there that do sell pairs under $12. No, it isn’t just Hanes or Fruit of the Loom. I do however still wait for sales on them. You probably don’t buy a car or television at the first place you look, so why do that with your underwear? Yes, you’re not spending as much money as on those big ticket items. But you sometimes can save a couple dollars on a pair. That’s a couple dollars towards another pair. Also with comparison shopping. You’ll start to learn how brand and retailer pricing compares to each other. This will come in handy with my main way to try to get some savings.

Another way to save some money is to check out the sale and clearance section. These items are most likely discontinued styles or colors. But good savings if they still have your size. Another thing to watch is shipping rates. These vary from place to place and free shipping isn’t always the best place to buy. A lot of times that is built into the price anyhow. So when comparison shopping make sure you factor in shipping.

Now if you do all the above work, you should have a good idea of some good places to shop for some underwear. The next step to even more savings is signing up for retailer and brand emails. Also, you can follow them on social media sites. Don’t stop there. Take time watching what comes into your inbox and social media feed from them before jumping on the deal. Over time you can learn what kind of deals they offer and which ones are their best ones. Once you know their best ones then you’ll know the times to buy.

What money saving tips do you use when shopping for underwear? Comment and let us know.

EC1 Eclipse Sport 3

Thank you to N2N for furnishing this pair for review.

RATING: 9/10

DAILY FIT: 9/10

SIZING: 10/10

CONSTRUCTION: 9/10

STYLING: 8/10

DAILY PERFORMANCE: 9/10

PROS:

  • Good butt coverage.
  • Sexy bulge.
  • Sleek design.

CONS:

  • Drawstring (see below)

TtheAmazing’s Recommendation: A great not skimpy cut suit for feeling sexy and swimming in, but make sure you are ok with showing a little bit of VPL.

I have been on the N2N bandwagon since I first had my great underwear awakening. In college, I would wait till things went on sale and then buy myself a range of items (a jock, a brief, a thong). Slowly figuring out what I was into, and what I thought looked good on me. Until recently, I had not really been a swimsuit person (I hadn’t really done much swimming in my life). In February, I figured out that I’d have this magical week of no work in July, so I decided to go on vacation. I found a gay resort in Florida. Realized I would definitely need to increase my swimwear collection from nothing to something. This started the Great Swimwear Shopping Spree of 2016. For the record, I ended up with 21 swimsuits, and I brought every single one with me. To be clear about how much I love N2N wear, out of the 21 swimsuits I wore on my vacation. 9 of them are N2N pairs (and all different). So, if you didn’t get it yet, I was really excited to be reviewing one of the new N2N swimsuits, the Eclipse Sport.

EC1 Eclipse Sport 4

This pair is a simple design, done very well. It features a full seat bikini cut, with a contrasting swipe going up the side of your bulge. It features a seamless front design. Whatever shapes you are working with down there will be shown proudly. Having said that, the sides of the pouch area are wide enough that it doesn’t give you the saran wrap look. It looks like you’re just wearing paint. I would call the bulge a semi-modest sexy bulge.

EC1 Eclipse Sport 2

Every pair I tried during my vacation got ample pool time. I walked around, got in the pool, swam a bit, got out of the pool, walked around, got back in the pool…etc. This pair is great, because although it is unlined, it looks good wet too. Some swimsuits lose a little bit of their appeal for me when they are super wet, but this pair held up. I prefer the feel of unlined swimsuits. Sometimes the lack of lining makes it a little less appropriate for some venues. I think this pair keeps it mostly classy. Even though you can definitely read a bit of the anatomy underneath, I wouldn’t say it is vulgar.

I got a Large, and it is a perfect fit. N2N has always been pretty great with their sizing. I never really know what to do with drawstrings. When I feel like without tightening the drawstring, the pair fits great. But maybe having a butt helps keep things secure.

To sum it up, I love this pair, here’s a pic of me wearing them on my vacation. If you wanna see all 21 swimsuits I wore, check my Instagram @HoopArtist

BearWeek2016_17We got a chance to talk to Eric Alden (@EST290 on Twitter). He is currently Mr. New England Leather 2016. So he knows a thing or two about leather and fetish wear. He also loves lace underwear. Its not something you would expect from a reigning Mr. Leather. We had a really amazing conversation about lace underwear and thongs.

I had a blast talking to Eric about the mix of leather and lace. We hopefully convinced him to come back for more discussions on underwear including lace! Now on to the Interview.

IMG_4582

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us! Last week, we talked on Twitter and your pictures amazed me. Here is a leather title holder wearing lace briefs and thongs. Its a combination we don’t see much, what made you try lace and thongs?

I have been into thongs for as long as I could buy them! The first thong I ever bought was the Y-Back 2(X)IST thong from, I think TJMaxx. Lace is still slightly newer for me, it has a shock value, and I like to push boundaries. It’s different, has detail, revealing and sexy without being just plain mesh. I’m comfortable with myself and don’t mind the play on feminism. It might be lace but its cut in mens styles.

One company you post a lot of pics wearing is BodyAware, why do you like BodyAware underwear?

I like BodyAware because they push boundaries and make a quality Underwear. They present something on a masculine male that is typically more feminine. I love the juxtaposition of what would be considered “feminine” style presented on a “masculine” man. They show a black lace thong on a ripped masculine guy. I love the way they present themselves and believe it or not men that look like their models are wearing thongs and lace.

One of my current favorites is the Baby Ribbed thong. Its super soft. Its a great pair for travel. It gives a nice lift and moves with you throughout the day. It’s my version of tight whites and just a great basic pair.

Another favorite is the Lace Brazil brief. It has half back. I own it in white and black. I would buy in more colors if they sold them. It has a play on a thong, because it covers half the back. I love the Silloutte, hopefully they will make it in other fabric

I seem to buying more from them these days, One of my latest purchases are the black mesh shorts. I am going to wear them over a fuchsia swim brief at the beach.

FullSizeRender-4

Have you always loved underwear? If so how long have you liked undies?

I have been into underwear for as long as I can remember. and all types for that matter. I do wear more than lace and thongs 😉 Right now I have almost 2 bins of underwear in storage. Plus three drawers at home filled with underwear. I remember in High School. I wanted a pair of Gucci underwear before Tom Ford left the company. I rode a train into Boston just to get them. They were my first pair of mesh briefs as well. They were black mesh but had the double G logo all over them. I probably spent $85 on them at the time. I still have this pair. The design was similar to lace with the illusion you can see through. Maybe that’s where my love of lace started.

Have you ever mixed the lace and leather? If so what was the reaction of the person or people who saw you?

I have, more recently though. When I mix the two, I prefer to do black lace with my leather I think it looks better when paired with black leather. I tend to buy lace in darker colors not sure why, Its just my personal preference I guess. I also have a blue harness and blue lace thong that I like to pair together. My style is constantly changing and growing.

I have posted quite a few pictures on social media. People comment that they find it very sexy. I think people and trends in underwear are changing. So many companies are making thongs now which means men are buying them. There are tons of blogs devoted to just thongs! It’s crazy! They show guys from all different walks of life, body sizes and ages in pictures.

Playing off that question has anyone ever said anything negative about your lace undies? If so how did you handle it?

No one has ever said anything negative to me in person or online. I have gotten eye rolls when I have changed in front of people. But, people know I don’t care. There have been positive comments on all the pictures I have posted in social media. It lets guys who want to try lace, see it in a different light. It helps them see past the feminine part. A harness and combat boots are uber masculine and then I pair it with a black lace brief. People can get confused but it doesn’t matter. You can be masculine and still wear lace underwear.

FullSizeRender-1

We want more guys to try new things, you being a “leather man” what advice would you give guys who are hesitant about trying something more “fem”?

You don’t know if you’re going to like something if you don’t try it. If you’re intrigued there is no reason not to do it. You only live once right? Explore what interest you. If you are intrigued by thongs, try ordering a basic simple black one, no need to jump right in to hot pink or lace. its about finding your comfort level. Getting into the silloutte is the first step. Everything in moderation.

Are there any brands you have seen in the market you have yet to try? If so who are they?

Not really. If I see a style I like i’ll find out who makes it and order it.

Joe Snyder is one brand as a whole that I should explore more.

As for thongs, I won a free thong from SUKREW on Twitter and Its an amazing thong! designed well andI highly recommend it ( great starter for newbies)and I will totally be ordering more of them and their jocks! Another favorite is Kick Sagat’s Steele Push Up thong in pink or blue. I own both colors and its fantastic. They do a great job at presenting two colors, pink and baby blue, in a very masculine way. They are a pair if someone wants something beyond basic. It also makes your butt look fantastic!

We want to thank Eric for his time. You can find him on Twitter @est290 and on Instagram at EA290.

Buying Underwear

I get it, compared with most of my friends I spend way more time thinking, talking, shopping, writing, all things underwear. I’m not apologizing, I’m just saying that I get it. Another thing I am known for amongst some friends of mine is my use of gift giving as a “love language”. I just really enjoy giving people presents, randomly or for a reason. So… this is the Buying Undies for a Friend post!

Some thoughts on buying underwear for friends:

Expose people to new brands:

Lord bless my friends. If they’ve ever bought anything besides Calvin Klein (whom I love) or 5 packs of Hugo Boss or something from Nordstroms. It’s one or two random AC pairs. So treat them to something new! My new favorite brand to expose people to is Jack Adams USA. One, it has the whole Pacific Northwest thing that we PNWers adore. Even if it is Portland :P.  Two, they have very classic pieces, great simple but cute briefs and trunks. So you’re not asking people to try something too far out of their comfort zone. However, pick whomever you like! I have a friend (I’ll tell this story shortly) that I always get different brands for, Armani Exchange, Hugo Boss, etc.

Let’s face it, if you’re reading this on Underwear News Briefs right now. Then you’ve been doing your homework. Don’t make your friends reinvent the wheel, show off some of your knowledge. Give them a new pair of underwear and a new window into brand variety.

Challenge people to try new style:

Again, don’t ask your very conservative friend to wear a jockstrap thong combo from AC right out of the gate. Wait a week or two ;). But really, push people in your selection of an underwear gift. Make sure to keep it within the range you think they’re willing to move. If someone is a very solid boxer briefs person, try giving them a sleek, shorter legged trunk. A good Private Structure one, for instance. They’re probably more likely to actually wear something closer to their normal. Than if you tried to get them into a bikini cut. Well intentioned perhaps but you want them to actually wear it!

If this is a friend that you’ve had conversations with about underwear. You might have a better idea of a new style to try. For instance: I have many friends who know and or follow my posts on the website. They just generally know that I enjoy underwear. So it isn’t too surprising that it comes up in conversations periodically. “Tim, do you really enjoy those pairs that don’t have a butt?” “Are those one kind of, the ones like a jockstrap, are they actually comfortable?” etc. Obviously this means that next time I’m shopping and want to play the part of the Underwear Fairy (take that in whatever way you want). I pick out a pair of assless briefs for said friend or friends. Now I do have a particular fondness for Timoteo’s assless briefs so it is generally one of them or Addicted. However, be careful. Again, the overall goal is to get them to actually wear it and enjoy it. o only get them one if you think there’s an actual chance they want it.

Make a tradition:

Here is the previously promised anecdote. I have a lovely co-worker who was first a date interest and from then on just a very good friend. He is a great guy and has impeccable taste for all things well designed when it comes to houses, architecture, dishes, furniture, and all. Yet his underwear selection was…not up to code. So for his birthday one year I picked up a pair of cute Hugo Boss trunks. I knew they were similar to what he wears but were an incredibly soft fabric and a sleek design. He laughed and loved it. Then 365 days later, I got him another pair! It was the birthday year tradition and his now boyfriend thanks me for cute pairs that he owns because I basically bought all of them.

It doesn’t have to be birthdays, maybe every time you go on a trip you bring a friend back a pair. Maybe your friends do a big Holiday gift exchange or White Elephant type event, always bring undies. People love it! Two Christmases ago I brought a beautiful gift box with a Power Bottom mesh, assless briefs and they were fought over all night. Make it fun, make it special, make it a tradition!

Buy what you love and make sure they know it:

Now, if you want to go a different route than discussed earlier and just buy something that you love and want to share, then do that. BUT make sure they know it’s special to you or that it is personal. If you want to buy them a red, skimpy thong because you love yours and you think everyone should have one, make sure to tell them that it’s something that you love and special BEFORE they open it. Just let them know that this means something to you and whether it’s their style or not, you wanted them to have it.

Remember, this is a gift and it’s normal:

I know that sometimes underwear seems like a semi-taboo topic for men. Women can all go to Victoria’s Secret in the mall and no one thinks that odd but if you’re two guys (gay, straight, bi, whatever) it’s suddenly odd or sexual or just wrong. It’s not. It’s underwear. I wear it, you (might) wear it, we (generally speaking) wear it.

Don’t be uncomfortable about it. It can be special and a very thoughtful gift but it doesn’t have to be weird. You aren’t asking them to model them for you (but god bless if they want to!), you’re simply sharing a passion you have with them and that’s super cool.

Okay, so now that we’ve gotten that all out of the way. I wear a 30-31 small waste and pairs can be sent to… HAHA! Joking, totally joking. Go out and shop with someone else in mind. Some great websites to check out if you don’t have a good store in town are below. Enjoy!

Issue

I often ponder this question and the double standard of underwear in the mass market. I have written several “double standard” posts. When I go back and read them they are always so negative and are “preaching to the choir” posts. They are more of a way for me to vent and blow off steam.

UNB was founded in 2008 to share great underwear with all guys. Not just gay guys. Over the years I think we have a proven record of doing that. We welcome all guys in UNB regardless of sexual orientation, age, weight or any other factor. We are a group of guys who love underwear and want to be comfortable.

I have really talked to more straight readers over the years than gay readers. Straight guys usually email us about posts we have had on the site. In fact, I have had in depth conversations with these guys. I never come right out and ask, “are you gay/bi/straight?” To me that doesn’t matter. It’s guys bonding over underwear (Sorry I know that sounds gay). Then at some point in the conversation they will mention a wife, gf or ex. How she didn’t or did like what he wore. Many I have kept up with over the years and we email from time to time.

It amazes me how similar our journey into underwear is between gay and straight. Around early teen’s most of us discover, what we call “good underwear.” After that it grows and continues to build. Some gay guys wear what they want and labels be damned. They don’t care. Then there are straight guys who told me they wore their bikinis under their boxers. This is so other guys never knew of their love. This would drive me crazy to do on a daily basis.

In the last ten years we have seen the rise of the Metrosexual guy. One who doesn’t care if you think his love of passion clothes and fashion, equals him being gay. More guys are subscribing to this. We aren’t where I think most readers on this blog, wished we were with society. In Europe and Australia they have sports stars such as Cristiano Reinaldo (Armani & CR7), Dan Cater (Jockey), Thom Evans (D.Hedral), Ben Cohen (CK & BlueBuck), David Beckham (Armani & David Beckham Bodywear) and James Rodriguez (J10).

In the US we haven’t had a sports star since Jim Palmer, actually wear underwear in ads. Tim Tebow became a Jockey Spokesperson. Then never was photographed in anything other than a Jockey T shirt. It was rumored he wouldn’t pose in any type of underwear. Then we have the drama between Frigo and Derek Jeter. I personally have tried Frigo underwear. It was one of the longest reviews I have ever written. I mentioned at the time these were great underwear for sports and athletes. So, if the rumors are true, I don’t think Jeter would have to worry about it being marketed to gays. That is the subject of pending litigation between the brand and Jeter.

It shows here in the US we have a long way to come. Every time you see guys in underwear on TV and movies its always something crazy or butt of a joke. Think of Borat in his green thong. Or guys wearing oversized tighy whities. Rarely are guys in underwear seen as sexy. The only example that comes to mind is Magic Mike.

I think it all boils down to a double standard. We can objectify and ogle women. But, the same cannot be done to a man. This is true in men’s underwear ads. Mainstream ads rarely show any type of bulge or skin. It’s usually boxer briefs and T shirts. One of our readers once described all mainstream underwear ads being worn by eunuchs. As guys we are different and some have a bigger bulge than others. So to show a real guy in undies would be a nice change.

How should we change this view in society? Well it’s not easy but we should all do what we can.

  • Let’s keep spreading the word on social media. It’s the easiest place for us to band together. It allows others to find other underwear lovers.
  • Speak up when you hear someone say they are “gay” for looking at, wearing or saying they love underwear. First, what does it matter if they are and second, what does it matter to them what anyone else wears.
  • Like social media of brands and interact with them. Support the brands you love. Let them know you appreciate them and want more!
  • Lastly, wear whatever you want whenever you want. If you feel great in a thong, wear it under your suit or uniform to work.

This will be an ongoing battle. Its getting better but we still have a long way to go on more acceptance of men’s underwear in the bigger society. How do you guys think we should go about having more acceptance in society?

EW0454_White_1Ergowear is a favorite of some of our guys on the site. I am included in that group. Egowear has a really great pouch. Not just for guys with a big package but for all guys. They designed several pouch designs that will fit a guy, the way underwear should be made! I get off my pouch soapbox now.

The newest edition in the Erogwear line are stripes. This is a limited edition collection of stripes. While not a huge collection it is something different from the line. They haven’t done too many stripes in the past. Actually I don’t recall when they did stripes. I’m not saying they haven’t but I can’t remember when they last had them. They have done some fun prints in previous collections though.

The new stripes are available in the X3D line. The styles are a thong, bikini and trunk. In colors black and white. Like I said it’s not a huge update. I really love these stripes. What is the X3D pouch design? It’s a “nose-shaped pouch has been designed with a lift effect, slightly pushing your genitals up and away for added movement and comfort.”

Another bonus of the X3D collection is it’s made out of Microfiber. The fabric is a super soft Microfiber fabric 95% Polyester, 5% Spandex. This fabric is a moisture-wicking fabric. Making it perfect for the hot summer or an active guy. All the pairs I have had of the X3D, the fabric has always been amazing. It’s soft and feels great against the skin.

If you have never experienced Ergowear now is the time to try. I don’t think you will be disappointed in the brand at all.

Junk UnderJeans furnished the Raw Street Runner for review

Rating: 9.3/10

  • Daily Fit: 9/10
  • Sizing: 9/10
  • Construction: 9.5/10
  • Styling: 9.5/10
  • Daily Performance: 9.5

Pros: Bold colors, fun pattern, nice material, well built.

Cons: Legs are a little long in length.

UNB pleep recommendations: These are a fun pair of tights, work great at the gym

This was actually the second item I have ever worn from Junk UnderJeans. The first being the Stellar Jock, and these tights are just as well made as the jockstrap.

I have worn these at the gym several times, they hold up quite nicely while working out. The fabric they use is very soft as well as breathable. I don’t feel like I am being suffocated in a heat wave while wearing and working out. Which, some tights I have worn before by other companies prefer to use just spandex and not have sections of it with breathable fabric. This allows you can workout in them for long periods of time.

They have three color choices; Aqua, Green and Pink. I have the Aqua ones. Which as you can see means they are a mid-grey and a dark grey overall color but the accent color is Aqua. Which, I find to be quite nice and sexy.

The sizing to me is spot on for the waist and thighs, however, I found the legs to be a bit long. The Large is exactly what you expect a Large pair of tights to be in the waist and thighs. If you normally wear larges I recommend you snagging up that size. According to their website their sizing charts states that a Large for them is a 32-34″ Waist.

If you’re new to underwear and want to branch out and try a few new things. Where do you go? What should you get? Should you dive right in or get your feet wet first. It all depends on what the fetishwear is about. We divided it up into Spandex, Lingerie, Leather/harness, latex/rubber, Mesh and the list goes on from there. BTW you guys mentioned mesh in our survey results.

Let’s talk about the fetish types that is easier to get. This doesn’t mean can you order them but rather the cost. Some pairs of fetishwear can be a few hundred dollars for a pair. The three of the easiest are spandex, mesh and Lingerie.

SPANDEX

Spandex is a very wide variety of gear. It ranges from swim briefs, runners, bike shorts, bib shorts and singlets. To go farther are full body suits and more. But for the time being lets stick to the first few. You can go one of two ways. You can do the off the shelf athletic gear. It consists of brands like Nike, UnderArmour and the like. You can buy it at any sporting good store or online. The other way to go is the erotic side of spandex. What makes it erotic? The cuts used that accent the pouch and other areas. Mesh can be used to create see through panels. Lastly, cut outs to expose part of the body. Brands that make this type of spandex gear are N2N Bodywear, Slick It Up and Pistol Pete. I personally love both side of spandex. It was probably my second love after underwear.

MESH

Mesh is something you guys pointed out in the survey. Mesh is pretty diverse in the men’s underwear world. You can get pairs that show off everything or just a hint of skin and naughtiness. Since we started UNB 8 years ago, mesh has really evolved. Where it was just something to wear to get laid. Now you have pairs that are meant to be worn to work our out on the town. New technologies have made mesh a more comfortable fabric. It used to be there wasn’t much give in the fabric and the construction always had a seam down the pouch that rubbed you the wrong way. Mesh has branched out of underwear and now can be found in pants, shorts, shirts/tanks and more. However, the underwear seems to be the favorite of you guys. The companies doing some great mesh are Gregg Homme, Bum Chums, and N2N Bodywear.

Men’s Lingerie

Lingerie is one of the most controversial areas of men’s underwear. We aren’t talking about guys wearing women’s underwear. We are talking about lace and satin underwear designed for men. Many guys out there don’t like it at all, but there are those who can’t get enough of the mixing of masculine and feminine. Some of the pairs do resemble women’s underwear. I have seen some recently that are designed to look like a garter belt. Other time its regular men’s underwear just made out of lace. This is rising in popularity and more and more guys are giving it a try. I have tried lace and I actually don’t mind it. Brands that sell men’s lingerie are MaleBasics, BodyAware, PetitQ, Candyman and Male Power.

Let’s talk about the other two real quick. Leather and Rubber/Latex

LEATHER

Leather is growing in popularity in the general population. It used to be relegated to gay bars. Now it’s becoming for everyone who wants to walk on the wild side. Harnesses have become one of the biggest new accessories in the world of underwear. Most of the affordable pieces are made out of a mix of leather and another material. If you want solid leather its best to have it custom made for you. This is some of the most expensive gear you will buy. If you’re at the point where you are getting custom gear made. You love the gear! And, you want something to last. Over the years I have had several pieces made and they have always held up. Its definitely worth the price. If however you want to find leather pieces “off the shelf.” The best places are Nasty Pig, Mr. S Leather to name a few.

Rubber/Latex

Rubber and Latex is the last. We are including neoprene in this as well. Some may argue it deserve a category of it’s on. We won’t deny that argument, but for the sake of this post it will be included. Off the shelf there aren’t too many brands making rubber. There are plenty making rubber looking fabric. Rubber and latex has to be cared for specifically or it will be ruined. More brands are turning to Neoprene. It’s easier to work with and care for over time. I have talked to friends who are really into this and you can easily rip or tear the garment, while putting it on or taking it off. This is not my area of specialty. I have tried everything we have listed in this post except rubber/latex. If you are interested I would suggest finding someone who owns it and tlak to them. To get your feet wet give some neoprene pieces some try. Many of the new harnesses are being made from the neoprene. The current brands making neoprene are Cellblock 13 and Slick It Up!

This is just a primer for you guys wanting to branch out and walk on the wild side. There are a lot more companies making great gear. It will depend on what you discover you love. Once you find something you like, you’ll be able to find other fun brands. Good luck and have fun!

Rating: 8.6/10

  • Daily Performance: 7/10

Pros: Great Junk X Pouch, Cool design, fun colors available

Cons: Waistband rolled on me during wear

UNB Tim recommendation: I liked the design of the jock and the pouch made this a good jock. The pair did roll on me I’m not sure if it was the design or just an issue I had. It is a great jock I would recommend.

I have a whole series of Junk X to review. I have already posted the Junk X Brief review. I was looking forward to the jock. productview2-343The first is because of the pouch. The second reason is I really enjoyed the brief. One thing that has impressed me with Junk UnderJeans is the quality. They make very well made underwear.

The design of the jock is a bit different than I am used too. It has the straps attached right above the pouch. Rather than on the side, like other jocks. When I slid on the pair on it took me a minute to get it situated. After it was in place, I liked the fit. The pouch of the Junk X line is a really good pouch. It’s a bit bigger than the traditional pouches Junk UnderJeans makes. It fit pretty well through out the day.

I wore this pair to work one day. I felt that a job where I had to be on the go would be perfect for a jock. I wore it and it held up pretty well. I haven’t worn many jocks to my job. After wearing this one it’s making me double think that decision. The only thing that happened with the jock was the waistband kept rolling. Pleep didn’t have this problem with his jock from Junk UnderJeans. I don’t know if its the way I am built or what was going on. I didn’t notice it till later in the day. It wasn’t uncomfortable, sometimes when waistbands roll they get twisted and uncomfortable. This didn’t bother me at all.

The sizing with Junk UnderJeans is pretty spot on. They have standard sizes. The X-Large I received fit pretty well. I don’t think you will have many sizing issues on Junk UnderJeans. Just follow the sizing guide and you should have no issues.
