BearSkn is a company for guys of all sizes. It specializes in bigger guys. This is a shoot they did that features the Neon Brights Collection.

This is what designer Bjorn Ryan-Gorman had visioned for the Neon Brights Collection and we finally got the shoots he was looking for.  With additional influence from the gritty 2011 L.A. movie ‘Drive’ with Ryan Gosling.

Gay Vs.When I founded UNB I always took a middle of the road approach to the world of undies. I wanted straight guys to read the blog and discover new brands of undies. Also, to embrace how awesome great undies feel while wearing. I didn’t know if this would happen back in 2008.

Flash forward a few years and we had Jon on our site. Jon was one of the biggest underwear lovers I have ever met. He was an average guy who loved great undies. He showed that passion here on UNB for a few years. Due to commitments outside the blog he had to step back. We def miss his point of view.

Now come to present day UNB and we have 5 straight writers. They are from all walks of life. It just sort of happened that we got all these guys in the first of the year. You will see a lot more writing from them in the future and they will being something different to the site! I”m amazed we have so many!

So back to the title, Gay Vs. Straight. I say this because it’s really not a us versus them in the world of underwear. When guys come on the site we talk about when you first discovered underwear. And the gay and straight loves happen around the same time. That time is in the early teens. Our “origin” stories, for a lack of better word are so similar. It’s crazy to me we are so a like.

I have had more in depth conversations about underwear with straight guys lately. Brady on our site, when he first came on, we had a 3 hour conversation about all things undies. It amazes me the passion guys have for undies. The same goes for UndiesRock, we have great conversations.

Instead of being a Vs. each other we need to team up and work together to share share great undies. We nee the market to grow and change social norms in the states. This would include swim briefs, bikinis, thongs and more. Underwear is neither gay or straight and we need to work together to make great undies front and center for all guys!

I would love to hear what you guys think of the gay vs. straight debate

Tyler Rush is a well-known and very well loved gay adult film star. He started out as the hit of the Seattle Pup scene and went on to merge areas such as Cosplay, Bondage, Pups, and so much more into a very successful film career. (Read more about him on the Huffington Post here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/matt-baume/tyler-rush-connects-cosplay-rope-bondage-geeks-and-kink_b_7558464.html) When not shooting films he can be found Go-going in Seattle and at various conventions with groups like Bound Jock and more. One thing that anyone who has ever seen him or seen anything he’s been a part of will know and that…is his ass. And how better to display said ASSet than in a jockstrap. I sent Tyler some questions about Jockstraps to get his take on this popular underwear style and here is what he said.

When did you first wearing jockstraps?

2009 Actually

Do you have some favorite brands of jockstraps or assless briefs?

Mr S Leather, Cellblock, Timoteo

Where do you buy most of your underwear/jockstraps?

I can honestly say that the majority of my jocks are from Mr S Leather (@MrSLeather).

Do you consider jocks better than regular briefs/trunks? If so, why?

I think each undie has its time, place and event. A little better, sure, but again, I appreciate briefs for being comfy and giving a comfy layer against denim or other pants.

Do you have a preference between jockstraps and assless briefs?

Jockstraps for sure. Assless briefs are great, but I like having my legs uncovered. The less fabric the better.

What do you look for in a good jock?

A good lift of the butt up, but without any unnecessary skin folds, and a good dick push forward in the pouch.

How often do you wear jockstraps?

If I’m going to an event or going out and about I’ll put on a jockstrap, I honestly only own a few briefs, of which I only wear at family functions or professional job things. Jocks are my preferred underwear of choice.

N2N Sale FrontAttention all N2N junkies (or feens?) out there, this post is for you!

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of attending N2N’s Los Angeles factory sale. Which was literally a dream come true.  Not only did I get to shop around and browse dozens of styles in person. (which is never the case, given the strength of the online market). But I got to meet and talk with the owner and designer Andrew.

I know it’s not a wildly known event.  But thankfully my editor (not pointing fingers UNB Tim) filled me in.  Which is why I want to share my experience with you.  As I previously mentioned, Andrew opens up the store front and organizes his products by price ranging from $5 undies/swimmers in baskets to $20 activewear on hangers.  Generally I would compare the shopping experience similar to how women feel shopping at Victoria Secret.  Because the products were laid out professionally for viewing and I was able to try them on to confirm they fit.  Don’t get me wrong I love ordering online.  From my experience I have had too many mishaps with sizing and material. Just being able to view them and try them out was refreshing.  Also the environment in the store was spot on.  Andrew is a down to earth, straight forward, genuine kind of dude. Though you might think it would be awkward to shop for stylish underwear.  It felt more natural than anything.

N2N Sale Left

I’ll be honest here. This was an N2N sale, so I had to go all out. With a little encouragement from my girlfriend.  I stocked up on over a $100 of undies, lounge shorts, and swimmers and I’m not remotely disappointed with what I purchased.  I went a little overboard with my undie selection. Believe me, I would have bought styles if my size was available. I ended up with an Air G in red, a Vintage G in grey, a Classic Cotton G in red, quantum bikini in orange and a Net G in red.  Also, since my loungewear collection is a little dry. I splurged a little and got two Track Sprinter Shorts in grey and black, a Cotton Sport Runner in navy, and a Sleep Short in black stripe.  I also bought two swimmers: the Catalina Bold Trunk in coral, and the Safari X Sport in coco (for my spicier side).  My favorite purchases are the Air G. I LOVE thin seamless front undies, as well as the Sprinter Track Short, which are my new go-to lounge shorts and my girlfriend can’t get enough of me in them.

N2N Sale Right

Shopping at N2N was awesome, but I also got to connect with the owner and designer Andrew.  I initially introduced myself as a blogger at UNB. He knew who I was, but we didn’t hit it off until the end when I overloaded his counter with my purchase.  We talked a little about the market, as well as the social stigma associated with swim briefs (states only). The one thing that I really took from my conversation, is how N2N came to be.  I don’t know why, but learning about people’s roots with their craft/art has always interested me.  What I gathered from our conversation is that N2N has been 19 (!!!) years in the making.  Andrew started the project in Miami making his designs by hand, and as time would have it. His brand ramped up to full production.  As a newbie to the men’s underwear market, Andrew is very inspirational and is just saturated with passion for his company. It’s no wonder that his hard work and perseverance have come to fruition.

As avid underwear consumers. One of the main things we look for when making a purchase are looks.  Especially when you know that one undie in particular is going to be seen by someone. No, I am not talking about the bedroom but the locker room. Yes the one place you avoided as a kid but ended up loving as an adult (at least in my case).  Due to the fact that at some point in he locker room you are going to have to strip down to your skivvies and reveal it all. I don’t know about you but I always like to be prepared when that moment comes. My favorite gym wear is almost always Andrew Christian.

9948 _6_

Yes Andrew Christian. The brand we all know and love to wear, has gone back to the basics while bringing us something fresh and new with their upcoming Vibe collection. Andrew Christian is usually my go to brand when I workout.  Due to their anatomically correct pouches with their “Show It Technology” and “Almost Naked” styles. That let my goods have that support and freedom.  while also showing them off a bit in the gym. While all those factors are a plus, it’s what happens afterwards that makes me think twice.

Before I hit the showers at the gym. I cringe at the fact that I have put my Andrew Christian undies through such a vigorous gym session. The stretching and sweating I endure during a workout takes it’s toll on my undies. After a while and we all know good underwear doesn’t come cheap enough for us to simply toss out and buy more. But have no fear my fellow fitness and underwear enthusiasts.  The new Vibe collection from Andrew Christian has promised to change all that.

DSC_5442_00_01_20_11_Still115

Their new Vibe ad campaign looks as though they have toned it down a notch in terms of colors and over the top styles.  They make up for it with their underwear that is promising to be the go to pair when it comes to controlling sweat and unwanted stretching. Adult film actors Ryan Rose and Arad Winwin and model Jon Pastor offer plenty of eye candy in the 2 minute ad that already has me somewhat sold (don’t judge.) The video showcases Ryan, Arad and Jon pumping iron, several sets of squats and most of all doing lots and lots of sweating. Which is something we all do at the gym. Some of us more than others, which is why I know these new lines of undies are going to be the answer to all our prayers.

Aiming for a release this February, I’ll be sure to try to get my hands on a pair and put them to the test once available. Currently the Vibe collection has only two pairs in a brief and boxer. Vibe brief starts at $22.50. Vibe boxer starts at $25.00. Can be viewed online at andrewchristian.com

6tag_060915-094105We got a few of our guys to tell in the wonderful world of color of undies. You all know that my favorite color is Green but here are a few of the other guys!

UNB Brady

3675041_raw

When I first started buying my own underwear I kept the colors very traditional. White for my daily and black for fancier events. It may have started out because I was scared to buy any other colors. I used to be so afraid of what people thought. It may sound strange to some but buying grey underwear was me branching out. Might be why I love it so much now. It was my first taste of undies freedom! I now buy whatever I want and care much less about what people may think. Even still grey remains a staple. It goes with any outfit and matches any skin tone. Very classic look to me with just a hint of style (For that fancy-daily look). Im going to avoid any 50 shades of grey puns here. Just say that from charcoal to platinum, grey can be quite ambiguous. Black tie event to lounging around the house, grey can work! My favorite pair has to be my Tommy Hilfiger Action Sport Brief. I love the bright white waistband contrasting with the heather grey and TH brand right in the middle. The navy trim is the icing on the cake for me! Too bad they discontinued it…

63031751_065_main

Quickly the Calvin Klein Black Series Low-rise trunk is becoming my new favorite. I have never felt a softer and luxurious synthetic fabric. These are the type of undies were I like being reminded that I am wearing them!

UNB Peter

That one pair of underwear that makes you see red.

unknown

“Once I stole a pair of red underwear from the department store. My mom wouldn’t buy them for me – she said they were Satan’s panties!” Okay no I’ve never stolen a pair of undies but I did steal that quote from the film Miss Congeniality. What is it about the color red that I find so intriguing? Maybe because more often than not in the world of undies.  Red is associated with being sexy. Exactly why red is usually one of my go to colors when it comes to purchasing underwear. Whenever I think of red, the words confident and flirtatious come to mind. I am neither of the two but when I slip on a pair of red undies, I suddenly feel as if I am. Whether I’m wearing my Aussiebum Wonderjock Pro trunk during work or gear up in the bedroom with my Papi Jockstrap.  something about red (in my opinion) that enhances my best assets. If I had to pick a favorite pair though, I would have to say it would have to be my PUMP! Flash Jogger boxer for several reasons. One of the reasons I love PUMP! underwear is their creative way of mixing masculine and sexy all into one. The boxer has all the right cuts that make my butt and legs look good. The soft cotton material that I find so comfy. The undie itself fits quite snug, which is something I look for when I make a purchase. One of the selling points for me though when it comes to PUMP! is that sporty jock look that I love so much. Their use of mesh in their underwear is simply amazing. This boxer in particular has mesh pockets and a mesh crotch area which I find so useful during a vigorous workout. Mesh underwear is sexy in of itself but red mesh undies just scream “take them off already” but in a good way. So in closing, I always do research before buying a pair of underwear off the net. There is something about colors in particular that make me throw all my purchasing standards out the window and impulse buy the first bright red pair that catches my eye. Sometimes it doesn’t hurt to judge a book by its cover, or in this case a pair of red underwear.

Underwear Dude

Green was my favorite color growing up, and is one of my favorite colors for underwear. It is an uncommon color for guys underwear, so it really stands out. It is also very versatile. Dark green can give a pair a classy look. While a bright lime green can make any style super fun, no matter what it looks like! I’ve got fourteen green pairs with my favorite being my lime green Cocksox bikini brief.

Beau Briefsespanola_brief_front_garconmodel

With underwear we all have go-tos when it comes to brands, styles and cuts but what about color? I for one LOVE a good pair of yellow underwear. I’m not really sure why but ever since I bought my first bright yellow pair of Timoeteos I have always seemed to gravitate to the color. I’m a fairly pale person so yellow isn’t exactly an obvious or good choice but none the less, it makes me smiles. It brightens my day. At this point I’d say I have about 10 yellow pairs, mostly all in briefs but one thong and a jockstrap count amongst the number as well. Something about it, perhaps it reminds me of spring or the sun, something those of us in Seattle could use a bit more of. Whatever it is, yellow undies are a great addition to a drawer.

Whats hot in the ukAs men’s underwear specialists DGU knows that fellas’ choices in the pants department have got a lot bolder over the years. No longer is a jock strap or g-string a thing to fear. Men’s thongs are now one of the most popular styles at underwear and swimwear website Deadgoodundies.com so it’s high time we revealed our bestselling thongs.

In this day and age, it seems new brands are popping up every month.  It can be very easy to just stumble across a brand that you have never heard of.  Even though it already has a large following or has been around for years.  Sort of like how with the sci-fi /Fantasy genre everyone gets into it through a different series. Leaving it an incredibly vast but fragmented category. So some brands fall through the cracks, or become lesser known, yet underrated.

When you think of Australian brands, probably Aussiebum, 2Eros, and Cocksox come to mind. Yet there is another good underwear maker from down under, that I think is awesome, called Croota. Since I discovered them a couple years ago I’ve enjoyed their styling and designs. They even do small touches well. For instance, on the back of my thong, right below the care instructions, is printed the line “For use before marriage”. How tongue-in-cheek is that! I also like their patterns. Such as their take on tartans and a print of the Croota name repeatedly split into individual letters and jumbled up.  Pulling of the combination of looking interesting but not overcrowded.

They also make an interesting thong. It has a very wide back, which may put some thong wearers off , but I haven’t found it to be uncomfortable. It does have a purpose. I have found that the larger back helps to accentuate what you naturally have back there.

One last great thing they have is free shipping, which is always a plus in my book! I hate it when a $15 pair is really $20+ with shipping. Though they are based out of Australia, they have a USA located warehouse so it won’t take long to get to you at all.

Basically, if you haven’t tried Croota, check them out. They’ve got a great style all their own, and make fun, good looking products. In my mind , Croota deserves to be just as popular as their bigger Australian brethren.

It's All About PassionI often ask myself this question. Why am I doing UNB? Why do I put in so my effort and time into he site for the last 7 years? These are usually days when I”m feeling burnt out and why even bother. Like most things in life we all go through cycles of good and bad. This was the case in December. It was a rough second half of the year both personally and for UNB.

After things settle I realize why I do the site. It’s the passion for men’s underwear. I have had this passion for as long as I can remember. I love to share my passion with others. The blog is the perfect way to do it. Yeah, it’s a massive amount of work, not enough pay and takes hours of planning. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world. As much as there are downsides there are these amazing up sides. The first is meeting so many amazing guys who love undies. Which is our readers. I have gained quite a few friends from the blog.

Then there are days I get something like this:

I just wanted to send a quick email to thank you for all the amazing work you and your staff do to keep your readers up to date on the happenings with the underwear industry and fashion. I’ve been an avid reader of your website for the better of 7 years, I’d say, and wanted you to know that I appreciate your website wholeheartedly.

As a happily married straight guy, I’ve certainly had my challenges being that I’m a minority in this realm of men who share my interest in underwear, but I learned to embrace my passion and share it rather than hide it. Your website helped me accept my obsession as it served as a constant reminder every time I visited (pretty much daily) over the many, many years that there’s nothing wrong with having a fascination with underwear even as a straight guy. So thank you for helping me accept, well, myself.

Furthermore all of your articles, reviews, video reviews, guest writings, etc. have had an influence on my underwear purchases. Whether it be a brand you highlighted or an actual pair of underwear that was reviewed, UNB definitely influenced my decisions. I have no doubt that if I rummaged through all of my underwear drawers, yes drawers, I could pick out at least 50 pair that have been an impulse purchase because of a review you (or another staff member or guest writer) posted. So let me also thank you for helping me to become money poor but undies rich! 🙂

Here’s to continued success at UNB in educating men (and women) that there are better underwear choices to be made!

Forever grateful,
Undiesfool

I was blown away. For about 5 minutes I was speechless. This is not a post to say “look at how awesome we are.” I’m still very much in the head space where I forget how many of you guys read the blog. This is because I just want to share things in underwear. However, for all my gripes and complaints here is a guy who has been reading the blog, almost from inception. Reaching out and saying thanks. These emails just make me smile and know everything I do pays off! I emailed him back and he was shocked I emailed him back! If you email us asking a question or sending a compliment or complaint. I will email you back. It may not be right then but you will get a response.

This year we have gained one of the strongest group of guys we have ever had on the site. It just sort of happened that Brady, Underwear Dude, Undies Rock, Peter and Josh joined all at once. Each brings a different view point and love of undies. We tripled our straight guys! Which is an important underwear market.

I just wanted to stress the dedication of myself and all guys on the site. Each guy you read has an amazing passion for the space. We want to share things we find and share our love with you guys. There have been some great personal posts recently and expect more! Its opening up and showing because you like undies, it’s a great thing.

This year we want to get more of you guys involved with the site. It could be participating in social media, helping us with posts or guest writing. We want to take UNB to the next level but we need your help! Feel free to send us feedback and get in touch with us! All the guys on the site love talking undies and we will be glad to talk to you about the wonderful world of men’s underwear.

ilovebikinis

Bikini briefs are one of the older skimpier styles, and in this day and age, to many they are overshadowed by more modern styles like the thong and the fashion jock, and are also being supplanted by low rise briefs. Even so, bikinis will never really go away, and might even be making a comeback.

I really like bikinis. I love the combination of skimpy yet coverage, style and substance. Some days I want something fun but want my backside covered. This balance is one of the bikini’s strongest points. Bikinis are available in many more different varieties than any other style. There are so many different things you can change. You can mess with the front coverage, anywhere from a conservative, more mass market definition of a bikini all the way to being practically indistinguishable from more skimpy styles. Rear coverage offers even further flexibility. Anywhere from normal full backs, to three-quarters, half, even smaller, or anywhere in between. There is also the”string bikini” style, where the legs are left free of material, leaving only the waistband, pouch, and rear. There truly is an option for everyone with the bikini.

Among some retailers, bikinis are becoming more and more common. For instance, lets take a look at the well known designer N2N. They’ve been making all types of underwear for decades now, and their bikinis, thongs, and jocks are top notch.

Among their newest collections, which include Classic Rib, Primary, Fresh, XXX, California Dreamin, Air, Luxe, and Vintage; out of all seven lines only two have thongs, while every one of them has a bikini available. That’s just one brand, but telling for sure.

The low rise brief has also stolen much of the bikinis market share, as many of these briefs might as well just be conservatively styled bikinis with a waistband! Even so, you will still find bikinis, usually “string bikini” style, with cutaway legs and a waistband, among big brief brands like Andrew Christian.

In closing, while over the past decade the market share of bikinis may have shrunk to the increasing competition in the skimpy side of underwear like thongs and jockstraps, I believe that bikinis have many redeeming qualities and features that will keep them from ever fully going away. Long live the bikini brief!
