Men’s Underwear

andrew-christian-almost-naked-fling-briefAre you looking for something fun and different for your underwear drawer? If you answered yes then might we suggest checking out the new limited edition pair called the “Almost Naked Fling Brief” from Andrew Christian. The AC site says “Show some skin in our Almost Naked Fling Brief. We kept the color simple, but added some ultra-sexy straps to the front/side to keep the focus all on you.”

The pair is sexy but not too over the top. Unlike some pairs made with a cutout, this features a full pouch in front with a cut out on the left hip. Speaking of the pouch it’s made with one of my favorite pouches, the Almost Naked pouch. In the world of underwear the pouch is one of the most important to me. The Almost Naked design is in my top 5 pouches ever. Seeing AC do something new with the line is great!

This pair being a limited edition pair its only available in Red or black. So if you’re not a fan of red or black, you are out of luck. However, if this pair does well there is a good chance it will be back in the future.

I really like this pair for many reasons. The first is it’s a bikini cut. I am a big fan of smaller cut briefs. There is a trend that underwear is going smaller and smaller, which to me isn’t a bad thing. Second, it has the Almost Naked pouch. This pouch allows you to “hang free” to make you feel like you aren’t wearing any underwear at all. Lastly, its just a fun pair. I think we all need those pairs to make us feel sexy when we have to present at that important meeting. Wearing fun underwear just gives you a level of confidence. Its important to find those pairs and wear them as needed.

If I had to choose a color I would go for the black pair. I say this because imagine wearing it on a date. When your partner saw it I think the black is a little more stylish. You may not agree and may want the Red but it’s underwear! We should wear what we feel best in style, color and fabric.

This pair is at the Andrew Christian Website for $22.93

csx-underwear-swimwear

Many of you maybe wondering, CSX what brand is that? I have never heard of them. CSX is a rebranding of Cockcox. I’ve heard from a few readers who say they don’t know if they could buy a brand named “Cocksox”. Cocksox being one of my all time favorite brands I always try to convince them to bite the bullet and slide them. Once guys try them, I like to say they are hooked on the fit and quality.

Cocksox was listening to the conversations. If you look around at stores online you won’t see them at some of the bigger retailers. I personally think it’s the stigma of the C word! When I met with them at Magic they showed me the CSX line and I thought it was brilliant from a marketing perspective. This will allow them to gain more retailers and customers.

There are some things you need to know about the new line. The branding/labels will be listed as CSX. Everything from the waistbands to tags will have the “CSX” on it. Some of the underwear/swimwear had been toned down a bit. I don’t mean in colors or patterns but in pouch size. The pouch in CSX is not as bold, for a lack of better word, in some pairs. It won’t show off everything you have and then some!

This line adds something I don’t think they have had before or used often. Cocksox created a boxer brief with a fly. The CSX54 has one of the few functional fly ever used by Cocksox. I really like seeing them branch out into new designs. While, I’m not the most favorite but I think this will get them some new customers.

The underwear is not the only part of CSX. The perfect example of the new CSX for swim is the CSX06. This is a swim brief but doesn’t have the pouch of the CX02. The CX02 takes what you have and proudly puts it on display. The CSX06 has a traditional cut of a swim brief. It’s classic and made in the really fun colors. Perfect for your first Cocksox swim or to take our Swim Brief Challenge!

We are going to bring you a lot more on this new line but wanted to let you know about the CSX line! Each pair will get it’s own Style Brief.

Jumping JohnMack Weldon is a company that has been in the new. Literally, they were written up in the New York Times for using more realistic guys in their ads. This one thing gave me hope that the underwear would match the coverage (no pun intended) over the last few years. They are not flashy or have crazy designs. Mack Weldon is a more classic styled underwear line.

Mack Weldon sent us several briefs to try. Alex already posted his video of them about a week ago. Now it’s my time to try. When I took them out of the package the first thing I noticed was the bright orange. UNB James loves the color orange, but I’m not so big on it, but the brightness of it I really liked. The second thing I noticed was the size of the brief. These are more tighty whitey style than I am used too. It always scares me to try a brief this size. I get flash back to previous pairs that loose their shape and become baggy through out the day.

I reluctantly gave them a try. I just knew I would be cursing my underwear choice through out the day. It wasn’t until about 3:00 PM that I realized the pair was doing great and not loosing its shape at all. I didn’t do anything crazy just daily activities. The brief was M00B02-MY_1made out of quality cotton that conformed to my body. In the back they had something I didn’t notice till later. There is a fabric panel at the top in the back, sort of a crescent moon shape. I would assume this keeps the back from getting baggy and really be form fitting. This pair surprised me. One last thing is on the fly there is a super small branding tag that is just a cool touch

The fabric this brief felt amazing. I knew it wasn’t pure 100% cotton and has some spandex mixed in. The official list of fabric is 47.5% Long Staple Cotton / 47.5% Modal / 5% Lycra. THAT’S IT! Modal! Modal is one of my favorite fabrics for underwear. The way they mixed this in was brilliant. Previous pairs of Modal can be very thin and fragile. Get it caught on a zipper and that pair is done. This mix is really great and Mack Weldon out did themselves.

Sizing is always a big issue. I’m 6’4” and about 245 so not the small guy by any means. I currently have roughly a 38 inch waist. The sizing for the large I reviewed is 34-36. I was surprised when I looked at the size chart. Granted they were a little tight but they fit great. I prob could have used a larger size but it didn’t bind or make me feel constrained through out the day.

Mack Weldon really impressed me with the undies. This pair could have gone horribly wrong. They took time in sourcing fabrics and construction so my hat is off to the crew at Mack Weldon. Would I buy more undies from them? Absolutely! It’s a classic style that every guy needs in his drawer!
Pros:

  • Amazing Modal/Cotton Fabric
  • Great fit through out the day
  • Classical Styling

Cons:

  • Maybe too plain for some of our readers
  • Not in super bright colors more subtle color palate

Ratings:

  • Fit – 8
  • Sizing – 9
  • Construction – 9
  • Styling – 8
  • Performance – 9
  • Overall – 8.6

Mack Weldon furnished this pair for review. You can find the briefs on their site for $19.50.

10172843_10152009427145079_1368873767385691290_nIt’s become pretty clear that underwear brands are not just relying on in-store markets to pump up sales; social media plays a big part in connecting brands to buyers in today’s world. If you’re like me or any of the other guys on the site, you too might be following your favorite brands on Twitter, Instagram and the like. While the steady stream of pictures of barely-clothed men is nice, it is also a great way to find out about the newest styles of underwear that are about to hit the market. And with any luck…it’s also a great way to find out about some awesome sales.

When I came on to the UNB staff page a number of weeks ago, UNBTim told me he was jealous of the fact that I lived in LA, because a few of the great brands we’re use to reviewing are based out here. Of course, Andrew Christian is the first that comes to mind, as he has a few store fronts out here (the West Hollywood store is only about 20 minuets from me). Recently, I began following N2N Bodywear on their new Instagram page (@N2Nofficial) and was happy to find out that its warehouse is even closer to me, about a 10 minute drive away!

Shortly after I began following them on Instagram, they posted about a pre-white party event they were going to be having in the warehouse, with underwear, swimwear and activewear on sale from $5-30. With prices like that, I knew I didn’t have an excuse not to go, especially since it was so close to my house! So midday on Saturday, my boyfriend and I jumped in the car and headed downtown to take a look.

Immediately I noticed how impressive the store front looked; plenty of merchandise in the windows and great looking banners with stunning models. When I rang the doorbell to get in, we were immediately greeted with open arms, literally! Andrew (who I would later find out to be the owner and creator of N2N Bodywear) answered the door, shook our hands and promptly walked us through a tour of the warehouse. We walked through what is the entirety of their distribution warehouse, with rows upon rows and boxes upon boxes of underwear. It was, in short, like I had died and gone to heaven.

Andrew was a gracious host and showed us the backroom where he had laid out all of the boxes of merchandise that was on sale. Underwear was typically $5, swim was typically $15 and active was around $30. We spent about 30 minuets looking through stuff before I finally deciding on two pairs of swim apparel, (stay tuned for some reviews maybe….?) but I honestly could have purchased it all. Not only did Andrew and N2N make it a great buying experience, the sale prices were out of this world and I was thoroughly impressed by all the pieces I saw: nothing but high quality materials and great designs. Andrew hugged us on our way out as well…what a guy! I can’t wait for the next sale!

Be sure to check out the entirety of the N2N Bodywear collection, available online at http://www.n2nbodywear.com/. And follow them on Instagram! @N2nofficial. And as always, don’t forget to drop me a tweet at @UNBPaul, and let me know what you think.

unb-swim-btsIf you think that photo shoots are fabulous and exciting…well I hate to break it to you, they are not. It’s not standing around drinking fruity drinks and having a relaxing time with hot models. IF ONLY! There is a lot of planning and work that goes into a shoot. Every time before a shoot I have all my friends go “OMG I’m so jealous you get to look at hot models.” Granted you do get to see great looking guys in swimwear but I rarely have time to sit back and relax! This day has come with a month of planning and getting sponsors. I’m going to walk you though how we do things here.

Usually in Feb/March we start reaching out to prob over 25-30 companies to get them in the shoot. That number ends up to being anywhere from 5-8 companies in the final product. Its always a game of “will the swim be out in time.” This is one of the main reasons we don’t get companies some of your favorites photographed. We try to shoot it in April and get it out two weeks before Memorial Day here in the state. That way you guys can order them with plenty of time to get them before you head out for the holiday weekend.

After we receive the swimwear. We set a shoot list of what we are going to shoot and what order. This year we shot Clever, Vuthy, Bwet, 2EROS, N2N Bodywear and Manus Swim. In that order. The location we had was in Birmingham, Alabama. I live in Atlanta so I was up at 6 AM for the 2 hour drive over. After triple checking I had everything I hit the road. I always have that feeling I will make the journey and leave the swimwear at home. Don’t laugh I have done this for a shoot before and ever since I get OCD about having the swimwear.

I arrive 30 minutes before shoot time to  have everything set up. This was one of the first shoots where I didn’t stress models. It’s in inevitable in past UNB shoots that one or more of the models fall out on shoot day. Having worked with Matt, who I call the model wrangler, Martin and Derek before I knew that we wouldn’t have this issue. Everyone showed up on time and we were off to the shoot.

The morning went pretty well. We got through a lot of the pairs with out issue. The only issue we had was the SD card for my camera wouldn’t record video and I had to run out middle of the shoot to get a new one. Who knew certain cards couldn’t do hi def video? But it was a great time for a break. I ran out and got the card and we were back at it.

We always get creative on each individual scene we do for the shoot. It’s always boring just to see the same shot over and over again. Guys standing doesn’t make a great shoot. So we try to get creative and put the guys in fun situations. This being a pool shoot we got all the non we shots out of the way first. Then had fun in the pool after. So the water guns, back flips off the diving board and fun times happened at the end.

Photo shoots are tiring. It may not seem that way but everyone is worn out after it. You want to eat and take a nap!  One thing you should know is I don’t think any model eats the day of a shoot. They want to look the best, so after I always take the guys to lunch/dinner. This time we did Mexican, which was in no way healthy.

After we ate we hung out a few and then I headed the 2 hours home. I left my house at 7 AM and returned at 7 PM so it was a long day and 240 miles round trip!

IMG_0319I know most of our readers have massive collections. Some readers have told me they have hundreds and others have 30-40. But as they say it’s not the size of the collection that proves how much you love underwear. Many of the guys I have talked to on the site have had under 50 pairs have been super passionate about their love of undies.

Even among our staff we have varying sizes. I have prob 400+ and most grew over the years of UNB. James is hitting 300 and the rest of the guys are a mix of large and moderate size collections.

So how many pairs do you have? We want to know! Vote in the poll

1525032_638570226204876_428235515_nWhere do you guys shop for underwear in person? We are looking for you guys to tell us where you shop! What is the best physical store to browse underwear and maybe try them on. The UNB staff had a talk yesterday and we know we can do better on the store locations. Our list is a little bit lacking.

This is where we call on you guys! If you have a store you go to on a reg basis or you find a great one on vacation let us know. All we need is the name and location we can track down the rest. This is not the only changes we are making big changes to our Sizing Guide as well. It will be a one stop shop for you to find sizes.

To let us know the store where you shop, email us here (info at underwearnewsbriefs.com), leave a comment, tweet us @unbblog. We want to make it easier for you guys to find great undies.

thongsWe conducted a non scientific poll a while back to see if you guys wore thongs. Hence, the picture above which is a lot of thongs! Many of you guys wanted us to report the results as of today April 27 (the poll is still open) so results may change. Here are the results:

  • Yes I do: – 74.64%
  • No But I want to try them: – 11.96%
  • No I never would wear them: – 9.09%
  • Other: – 4.31%

A over whelming majority of you guys who answered wear them. The number that surprised me was the 12% that want to try them. The numbers are higher than I would have thought. Our readers are def on the more adventurous side of the underwear spectrum.

Here are some comments from the guys who responded to the poll

  • Tried it, didn’t like it
  • I used to, a long time ago. I never had the body for a thong and felt silly.
  • rarely or only for special occasions
  • No, they’re uncomfortable.
  • I used to, but haven’t in years.

If you are a thong fan let us know why you are! More guys are trying them gay and straight! Also, let us know your favorite thong!

Lil Black Brief LoResI love bringing you guys new underwear companies. It’s like I find a treasure I have to share it with you guys. Chris Salvatore Underwear  was discovered while talking to UNB Kyle. He was coming on the site and told me about the incredible pics. After seeing them I looked up the brand and emailed them. . Admittedly I didn’t know who Chris was before finding his underwear brand, I know I’m prob behind the times.

Chris is an gay actor and singer. He has appeared in the Eating Out series. His best known single is Dirty Love. Many of you out there may know his work already. You maybe asking what made him want to branch out to include underwear designer in his resChris Salvatore Underwear Nautical Brief ume? Here is his explanation from his website:

“My career has afforded me the opportunity to wear a lot of great clothes and work with some awesome clothing and costume designers over the years. I began to learn that the clothes don’t make the man, the man makes the clothes.  It’s all about what makes you feel sexy and confident in your own skin, and it starts with a great pair of underwear!”

The Chris Salvatore lines has three core concepts. They are to feel comfortable, sexy and confident. I think most of our readers know and believe these concepts. It’s great to see an underwear company expresses the same philosophy. . Underwear should add to your wardrobe and give you something extra through out the day. You should take as much time planning undies as you do the rest of your clothes for the day.

Chris is a relative new brand on the scene. The line launched in February and has a nice core collection of classic styled briefs and boxer briefs. The colors are fun and have names like Bubblegum Pink, Randy Red, Super Hero Blue, Black and Lemon Ice. How could the colors not be fun?

The newest pair released is the Nautical Brief. It has a built in support/enhancer with a fun nautical stripe. When asked why he designed this pair Chris said “I didn’t really like the underwear I saw that tried to incorporate a c0ckr1ng feature.  I get that they those are supposed to “enhance” your assets, but they’re just not comfortable! The Nautical Briefs Double Support Pouch does exactly what it says.  It gives your Captain and the First Mates a comfy lil pouch to chill in.”

If you’re interested in the brand go check them out at the Chris Salvatore Underwear site – http://www.chrissalvatoreunderwear.com

Jock_splash-long1Are you looking for some new undies to wear under your running shorts or to wear to the gym? 2EROS has expanded their jock series with a new Long Trunk. The current Jock line is one of my favorite lines of 2EROS. I love the bright blue and blue/red waistband. The fabric is amazingly soft. But I will tell you more about this in a bit! The Jock Briefs have become one of my favorite pairs of late and I wear them often. I am not a big boxer brief fan, I can hear many of you now saying “you just haven’t tried the right pair.” I have found several brands that I do like their boxer briefs and trunks. Most of those brands I have found has a defined pouch and are super tight. Loose boxer briefs just make me not want to wear undies. These don’t seem to suffer form that and look like a pair I would enjoy wearing. Tight, check, great colors, check and amazing fabric double check! The new Long trunk comes in white or blue and just above the knee. The fabric is a Tactel, type of nylon, that is great at keeping you cool and wicking moisture away from your body. I can speak from experience that the fabric fits great and feels super soft. 2EROS designed for active guys with a pouch that has a single layer of material for a natural hold. That means is shouldn’t bind, bunch or in generally drive you crazy. I really like seeing brands mix up their lines with something new. Jason at 2EROS is always creating fun and interesting undies/swimwear. This style is somewhat of a departure for 2EROS. Lately, there has been a trend for longer boxers and they are not the only brand to release them. The best thing I like is that 2EROS took the longer boxer and made them their own. They did this by incorporating them in the jock series that was inspired by the Union Jack on the Australian flag. If you’re in the market for some new undies to run or work out in I would highly suggest checking these out. They are available at the 2EROS site for $38.95 AUD.

Modus Vivendi Dreamland Urban Life_6Modus Vivendi is back with the follow up to it’s Dreamland series. This time the collection is called Urban Life. The collection is inspired by many of the world’s largest cities. Modus Vivendi is branching out outside of their Greek Heritage for this line, but they are still keeping the unique MV style.

This line is more than just underwear. It includes, underwear, hoodies, gymwear and more! Below is the official release:

Modus Vivendi releases the second part of its Spring/Summer 2014 collection “Dreamland”, called “Urban Life”. Inspired by the dream of living in the world’s biggest cities, these pictures show models Ilias Konstantinou and Aris Kitsios against background images of busy underground trains and stations, bustling squares and street art.

The line itself comprises items made of a high quality cotton mesh material. This type of fabric is extremely comfortable and creates a very sexy look. You will find briefs, boxers and jocks as well as new designs, such as the unique Mesh Onesie, the Croise Sleeveless and the C-though Hoodie. This line also includes the new men’s gymwear by Modus Vivendi, the Union Track Vest and Union Sweatshorts. Manufactured to the highest standards, this is possibly the most stylish gymwear you will ever wear.

1176317_577367095660604_1297625948_nBeing underwear lovers we are always looking for something new and fun. If you’re like me you like to keep your underwear drawer updated as much ass possible. This is a very hard task because every day new pairs come out, how do you pick a pair that will be different and unique? Many brands come out with limited edition pairs but they are only a few pairs. Now imagine if a brand had all their pairs a limited editions?

This is exactly what Rockwood Underwear has done. Each pair is limited to 500 pairs. As they say on their site, this is not 500 in each size but 500 total! Which makes it even more limited. If you find a pair of Rockwood you can’t live without you better buy it because once it’s gone it’s GONE! The old adage you snooze you loose is definitely in play here.

I hear some of you out there going “well they probably only make one style.” You would be wrong, they make mini briefs, briefs, trunks and boxers. Granted not every pattern or color is available in every style but you will find a style you want most!

The concept of this company is pretty amazing. I like the idea of creating a company around limited edition undies you know your friends won’t be wearing. The landscape of men’s underwear it’s hard to find pairs that will set you apart from others!

If you want to get the most up to date undies from Rockwood sign up for their newsletter, follow them on Twitter and Like them on Facebook.

1536439_685511358162587_2756184352367265841_nBum-Chums has always been a, pardon the pun, cheeky underwear company from Great Briton. They have released a new collection called Nutsack. Note that all the pics the models are wearing modesty panels under the underwear. Meaning that the undies will be totally see through.

Bum-Chums is no stranger to mesh underwear. Their In2cooler line has a rear mesh panel designed to keep you cool! If you wanted to go a step farther the Tool Belt line has a solid mesh back. Let’s say you still want to go father in mesh, the Sneak Peek line is a solid mesh pair. They have taken it to the next level with the Nutsack line.

I would normally tell you in my own words about the underwear but I don’t think I can in any way top what they wrote:

From the book of New Testicles: And it was proclaimed, ‘A saviour shall be sent unto us; holey presents that shall redeem all our souls; a divine host of hipsters and briefs that will lift all men to heavenly comfort. No longer shall man be in bondage (unless he chooses to be), he will be as free as Adam, with not a fig leaf in sight. And this deity shall be called the bum-chums’ Nut Sack and from this day forth, man shall be clothed in many colours, yet be naked and revealed in all his glory….oh, rapture.’

Like I said, no way I could out do that write up that clever. Bum-Chums is all about taking your underwear and making it over the top fun. The underwear is also functional, nothing worse than a fun pair of undies that’s a pain to wear. The Nutsack is a mesh pair that is available in only black and red. The styles they have released are a hip brief and hipster (a trunk for us US folks). We have all the pictures of each pair below, so you can see the front and back of each pair.

Where can you buy Bum-Chums? I haven’t seen them offered on any site or store in the US. If you have let us know, but the only place to order them is their website (http://www.bum-chums.com). The cost of both the styles are £19.99.
